On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by Matt Warren from SB Nation to discuss a handful of Buffalo Bills and NFL topics, including a list of the biggest surprises that've happened with the Bills this offseason as training camp's now just a handful of weeks away. How things play out obviously remains to be seen but one thing's for certain when it comes to the Bills---it's been an eventful offseason. The guys talk about some of the more surprising things we've seen in depth, including the James Cook contract situation becoming a very public hot topic, not having any real interest in retaining popular receiver Mack Hollins, Brandon Beane signing four significant veterans to long term extensions before free agency even began, the Bills being named as the subject for HBO's Hard Knocks this summer and Beane taking a big swing on a one-year deal for defensive edge rusher Joey Bosa, who's already got a calf injury while training. Also, the Bosa injury and other factors could make this a very important season for veteran edge rusher AJ Epenesa. The guys discuss why and if we should realistically expect anything more from Epenesa than we have in the past. That plus is there any chance that a Buffalo return Von Miller could be in the cards and much more. You can follow Matt on Twitter @MattRichWarren and be sure to check out Buffalo Rumblingsfor your (really good) daily Bills content.Major props to Talking Buffalo sponsor, Sonny Red's at 1841 Abbott Road in Lackawanna, just minutes from Highmark Stadium. On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by Matt Warren from SB Nation to discuss several Buffalo Bills and NFL topics, including examining what Bills positional group currently feels like the biggest cause for concern going into the 2025 season. On the whole, the Bills appear to be loaded. That's evidenced by Buffalo being the only team in the league to be favored in every game this season as things stand. That doesn't mean the team is without flaws and concerns. The guys examine which positional group is currently giving them the most reason for concern as they get ready for training camp in July.Plus in news that broke shortly before the taping of this show, Bills defensive end Joey Bosa has a calf injury already. The guys react to that. Staying with the Bills, Matt also has thoughts on who, if either should be extended first between Connor McGovern and James Cook. Also, what does Matt think of Buffalo being selected to be on HBO's Hard Knocks this summer.Moving over to NFL talk, the guys take a stab at what team(s) could be in line to win their division this season that didn't last year. Most Optimistic "What If" Buffalo Bills Scenarios For 2025

On this episode of Talking Buffalo, it's another edition of The Podbag, chockfull with submissions from listeners that Patrick Moran is responding to, including painting a picture of what would be the ultimate Buffalo Bills most optimistic "what if" scenario for 2025.There's 32 teams in the NFL banking on or at least hoping for the most optimistic what if scenarios for their teams to achieve the most success, but few around the league have a roster as deeply talented as the Bills, led of course by the reigning NFL MVP at quarterback. A listener of the show submitted a bunch of factors that if they fall Buffalo's way, this would be the year they finally get over the hump and bring a Super Bowl to Buffalo. Among those discussed besides the obvious health factors is Dalton Kincaid and Keon Coleman taking a big step on offense, Joey Bosa finding the player he was early in his career with the Chargers, Max Hairston being the real deal and Cole Bishop having a significant step forward in his sophomore campaign.Patrick keeps the party going to on the what-if scenarios---citing Joe Brady learning from what Patrick perceives as a meltdown in the AFC title game in addition to Josh Palmer giving Buffalo more at wide receiver than Amari Cooper did.Other submissions also discussed include examining if AJ Epenesa is just another guy on the Bills roster, the Bills bye week coming at an opportune time for the defense, chastising recurring guest Matt Warren for picking Miami to beat Buffalo in Florida this season and Miami "poser" head coach Mike McDaniel. Also, a regular listener takes a stand against the Sabres hatred and defends his favorite team. That plus Mitch Marner, WNBA, a weekend trip food recommendation for a Buffalo trip and much more.Major props to Talking Buffalo sponsor, Sonny Red's at 1841 Abbott Road in Lackawanna, just minutes from Highmark Stadium. For the exercise Marino enlists a panel of Bills content creators to vote and chime in as part of the show, a panel that includes Patrick.  The guys go over the list from Locked on Bills and Patrick reveals what his personal countdown consisted of---was his list in line with the majority of the panel? From there, Matt does his own countdown with some insightful explanations along the way. Under The Radar Key Bills Talking Points

On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by Matt Warren of SB Nation to discuss several Buffalo Bills and NFL topics, including a look at eight pretty significant talking points about the Buffalo Bills from last season that Patrick feels have mostly flown under the radar.Josh Allen finally won his first MVP and firmly established himself as one of the faces of the league. The Bills again fell short in their quest for a Super Bowl appearance after losing to Kansas City in the playoffs, again. Brandon Beane spent heavily on the defense and clearly let everyone know he feels about the wide receiver position. These and some others are predominant talking points that've remained as such over the past few months. But there's some things from season, both good and bad that are still tugging at Patrick a little bit that he wants to discuss with Matt. Among them is an incredible offensive line that played a huge role in Allen getting sacked just 14 times in 17 games. There's also the absolute Buffalo dominance of the AFC east, evidenced by their 24-6 record against the division over their last 30 games. Also, Dorian Williams took a major step in his second year at linebacker, to the point Patrick feels solid about him if he has to start again.Conversely, Patrick thinks offensive coordinator Joe Brady has been let off the hook a little bit despite his play calling meltdown in the AFC title game. Also, Brandon Beane's offseason defensive line additions crop was generally pretty lousy.Plus, some NFL schedule news as of this recording, media news surrounding two icons of the football broadcasting industry, audio vs video for podcasting and much more. On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by Matt Warren of SB Nation to go over some of their biggest Buffalo Bills and NFL draft takeaways after a handful of days to full digest everything that happened. When it was all said and done, the Bills ended up making nine picks and among them were two trade ups, both for defensive tackles. The guys offer their thoughts on each and how they may fit in and while going into the draft it felt unrealistic every draft pick could make the roster, Patrick actually believes there's a feasible case for each of them to make the team. If nothing else it feels the competition for roster spots in Rochester at training camp this summer should be far livelier than a year ago. Also, the Buffalo sports world is still buzzing over Bills general manager Brandon Beane's fiesty appearance on WGR 500 Monday morning when he blasted cohosts Jeremy White and Joe DiBiase for complaining that the Bills haven't done enough at wide receiver. It's led to strong reaction on both sides of the fence from fans and the guys offer their opinions on that.Speaking of wide receiver, Matt offers his take on if people are sleeping on free agent signee Josh Palmer and if the team has done enough to address the depth at the position. That plus several takeaways on the draft hauls for teams around the league, including the AFC east and plenty more. Primary Buffalo Bills Concerns (As Things Stand Now)

On  this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by Matt Warren from SB Nations to discuss several Buffalo Bills topics, including an examination on some of the primary reasons for concerns when it comes to the 2025 Bills as things currently stand.Don't want to get this twisted---this is not a pile on the Buffalo Bills for any and all of their perceived shortcomings with the intention of being negative episodes. In fact, the guys go out of their way to praise Brandon Beane and staff and what appears to be a really solid offseason balance of locking up core players for the long term while investing free agent dollars in areas of need, particularly on the defensive line. The Bills are poised to be in the mix for an AFC championship yet again this season and for good reason---it's a very well put together roster with a lot of strengths, none so more than the MVP quarterback. However, that doesn't mean this is roster without flaws or least question marks around it and both Patrick and Matt put on their critically objective hats and discuss several of them, including what appears to be a pretty big leap of faith that Keon Coleman will grow into a very good wide receiver in his second year, the boundary cornerback position looking razor thin (again, as things stand) and a safety room that least Patrick isn't ready to start believing in.They also wonder how much, if at all the James Cook contract situation could be an issue come training camp in July and if it'll resolve itself or become a New York Jets 2024 Haasan Reddick situation in the worse case. That plus are the Bills doing enough to help Josh Allen be great, will Miami star receiver Tyreek Hill actually end up getting traded, thoughts on Cam Ward very likely being the number one overall pick and much more. You can follow Matt on Twitter @MattRichWarren and be sure to check out Buffalo Rumblingsfor your (really good) daily Bills content.Major props to Talking Buffalo sponsor, Sonny Red'sat 1841 Abbott Road in Lackawanna, just minutes from Highmark Stadium. On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by Matt Warren (SB Nation) for their weekly chat with the focus today on a handful of sneaky positional draft needs for the Buffalo Bills in addition to a handful of interesting potential Buffalo trade up options and where packaging some picks can get them up to.Cornerback, edge rusher and defensive tackle are three big needs and (very) likely to be addressed early in the draft—possibly even their first three selections. However, there's other positions on this team that could definitely use some reinforcing with both this season and the future in mind. The guys talk about why tight end could be a little more of a priority than most think despite already having both Dalton Kincaid and Dawson Knox on the team. Also, an interior lineman doesn't have a real path to playing time as a rookie but that doesn't mean a solid mid round prospect can't become impactful as soon as 2026. They also discuss linebacker, running back and even punter as possiblities. Also, the Bills currently hold pick 30 in the first round and two in the second, 56 and 62. Buffalo can stay patient and get three guys that fall to them—or Patrick lays out several scenarios using the latest 2025 draft value chart to demonstrate where the Bills can realistically move up for a prospect(s) without necessarily giving up the farm.Plus, plenty of reaction from everything going on at the Owner's Meetings this week in Florida both from a Bills and league wide perspective. On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by Matt Warren of SB Nation to discuss the first three days of free agency for the Buffalo Bills and specifically what's become an overhaul of their defensive line following three significant additions. It wasn't exactly a secret that the Bills were going to look to improve a defensive line that was good at times in 2024 but also floundered too often as well, none more than last year's AFC championship game loss in Kansas City. Bills general manager Brandon Beane took some pretty big steps to try and improve the unit this week, signing Michael Hoecht on Monday before the big one, Joey Bosa on Tuesday and following it up with a third addition on Wednesday morning, Larry Ogunjobi. The guys break down all three moves and discuss what they like and don't like about them, and there's plenty of both on Bosa and Ogunjobi.Beane also addressed safety on Wednesday, bringing back Damar Hamlin on a one-year deal and also signing Darrick Forrest. Patrick thinks Hamlin being back is a reflection of an open market that rejected him, something Matt definitely disagrees with. With these moves plus the signing of Josh Palmer and re-signing of Ty Johnson earlier, it certainly appears the meat and potatoes of the Bills roster is set heading into NFL draft season next. That's with the exception of cornerback. Both guys have thoughts on where this roster stands as well as some reaction to happenings around the NFL and plenty more.Major props to Talking Buffalo sponsor, Sonny Red's at 1841 Abbott Road in Lackawanna, just minutes from Highmark Stadium. The guys react to Shakir's deal now that the full contract deals are available. Shakir being the lone notable Bills transaction is surely about to change, possibly by the time you're listening to this. The guys have thoughts on how after a quiet offseason a year ago in terms of additions, nearly everything is at least potentially on the table for the Bills this time around.Matt spends time going over what he considers his Bills wish list, running off the players he'd like to see the team re-sign as well as extend. Ten Big Questions Facing The Bills Before Free Agency

Moran-Alytics Podcast

On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by Matt Warren of SB Nation for their weekly chat and the focus today is on 10 very big questions Brandon Beane and the Buffalo Bills are pondering as they get ready to attack free agency beginning on March 10. Last year's strategy due primarily to economics was very straightforward. The Bills shed a lot of salary by jettison several players who were leaders and part of their core, a list that included names like Jordan Poyer, Tre White, Mitch Morse and Stefon Diggs. It was a very low-key free agency spearheaded by the additions of Mack Hollins and Curtis Samuel. Things turned out wonderfully for Buffalo despite the mostly "uneventful" offseason from Beane and company. The expectation around league circles is different this time around. The Bills are expected to put some serious resources into a few positions, very likely on the defensive line above all else. Prior to there's several questions in need of discussing which the guys do, among them being what to do with Von Miller, is Daquan Jones addition by subtraction at this point of his career, what's their plan for attack at cornerback and what's their level of faith in safety Cole Bishop going into year two? Also, Matt has thoughts on what the price should be that Beane's willing to pay to acquire a Myles Garrett or Max Crosby if either player is actually available. That plus a few other Bills questions, where Rams quarterback Matt Stafford may end up this season and tons more. On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by Matt Warren from SB Nation to discuss several Buffalo Bills and NFL topics, including what type of contract Josh Allen may end up getting if the organization decides to give him a new deal this offseason. Patrick admittedly isn't much of a contract, numbers or salary cap guy at all. However, Matt is and has been doing some looking into what a new Allen deal could look like. He has several thoughts on it as well as a few comparisons to potentially go by. They also spend some time going over some possible Bills restructures that both make sense and could create extra cap room for Buffalo. They'll need some of it to re-sign at least a few of their own pending free agents, and the guy chime in on who they think Brandon Beane should prioritize. They also discuss what kind of financial and overall team shape the rest of the AFC east is going in and Patrick's blown away by the opportunity that may be awaiting New England. That plus where does Aaron Rodgers fit for 2025 and tons more. Major props to Talking Buffalo sponsor, Sonny Red's at 1841 Abbott Road in Lackawanna, just minutes from Highmark Stadium. On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by Matt Warren of SB Nation to discuss some of the biggest dilemmas that Brandon Beane and the Buffalo Bills will be facing coming up soon this offseason. Beane and his staff have difficult decisions to make every offseason and this one will certainly be no different. Among the topics Patrick and Matt go over is if Buffalo will keep, restructure and cut Matt Milano and/or Von Miller and it comes clear you can make a case to keep one, both or none. Extensions could also play a huge role in the shape of this offseason. Greg Rousseau, James Cook, Khalil Shakir, Terrell Bernard and Christian Benford among others are all slated to go into the final years of their respective contracts. How many should be extended if possible and what should the pecking order be? Patrick admits to having some reservations about a few players based on how the postseason played out. The guys also chat about what they think should happen with the starting cornerback spot alongside Benford, feelings about Cole Bishop becoming a starter next year and a confidence in level in Keon Coleman taking a big step in his second year. They also have thoughts on a potential Garrett Myles trade, the Super Bowl on Sunday, a potential league rule change and much more. Bills GM Brandon Beane Deserves Some Heat Too

On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by Matt Warren from SB Nation to discuss a variety of Buffalo Bills related topics, including general manager Brandon Beane deserving his fair share of criticism and blame after the Bills fell to Kansas City on Sunday and failed to reach the Super Bowl. Coaching was definitely an issue at times with Buffalo in a narrow three point loss as was a handful of players who woefully underperformed when the Bills needed it most. Both areas have been the target of criticism but Beane deserves to get his slice of the blame pie as well. The guys talk about how while he's made a lot of terrific veteran personnel decisions and nailed some draft picks, he's also made some mistakes with highly touted players that really hurt the Bills on Sunday. Among them discussed is first-round draft pick Dalton Kincaid, who had a nightmare at Arrowhead on Sunday, as well as Bills first pick from this year's class, Keon Coleman, who had just one catch on the day and only three for the entire playoffs. Sprinkle in Kaiir Elam, who's proved to be an absolute bust and you have a high drafting problem in Buffalo. Hell, you can even add in how first round pick Greg Rousseau kind of threw away a very good regular season by faceplanting against Kansas City. There's also the Von Miller situation, the trade for Amari Cooper who never really lived up to the hype this season and other moves discussed Beane's at least partially on the hook for. They also go back to coaching and discuss some of the key elements of the game, including a pair of revealing comments about not knowing what the Chiefs were going to do in keyi spots of the game from two Buffalo veteran starters. That plus an exploratory look on how things may play out for Buffalo this offseason and much more. On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by Matt Warren of SB Nation to discuss several topics, including pouring over some of the reasons the Buffalo Bills should feel confident heading to Kansas City for their AFC championship game against the Chiefs on Sunday evening. The Bills are headed to the conference title game for the first time since 2020, when they went to Arrowhead and lost to the Chiefs, 38-20. A lot has obviously changed since then, or has it? The guys have a discussion about how Kansas City has remained the creme of the crop in the AFC (and NFL) and even when they win close and/or ugly games, what matters most if they always win. Plus, it seems over the past few years that guys like Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce, Chris Jones and others always ramp up their games in their postseason. That said, Buffalo has plenty of things to be confident about. The guys talk about how for starters, they beat them earlier the season in Orchard Park. The guys also discuss the Bills ability to score on anyone, including two dominant defenses already in the playoffs as well as they're familiarity with the Chiefs, Josh Allen not turning the ball over and an overall vibe about this year's Bills team we've been talking about all season. That plus discussing a few X-factors, lingering Baltimore Ravens thoughts and plenty more. Several Reasons To Like Buffalo Over Ravens In Playoff Rematch

Moran-Alytics Podcast

On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by Matt Warren of SB Nation to discuss among other things several reasons to like the Buffalo Bills in a playoff rematch over the Baltimore Ravens this coming Sunday, despite a growing sentiment that the Bills are actually the underdogs going in. On Sunday night's opening betting line the Bills were a 1.5 favorite but less than 24 hours later the Ravens were favored in Vegas by the same margin. There's plenty of reasons for gamblers, fans and media like to give the edge to Baltimore----they're red hot, have six All-Pros on their roster including the now MVP betting favorite in Lamar Jackson, a stud running back and a defense that's been the best in the NFL over the second half of the season. Oh, there's also the matter that Baltimore crushed Buffalo at home all the way back in Week four of the regular season, 35-10. Still, there's also plenty of reasons to like Buffalo's chances in this rematch and the guys spend a big chunk of the show talking about them. Among them is a lot of key players back for Buffalo that didn't play the Ravens earlier this season, Josh Allen taking his game to another level, literally in the playoffs, the potential to sustain drives and keep Baltimore off the field, and a potentially impactful injury to the Ravens if 1,000-yard wide receiver Zay Flowers (knee) can't make it back. There's other factors discussed too, including the Bills being experts at harnessing at what they deem disrespect into motivation, Jackson having a spotty playoff history and perhaps most importantly, the game being in Orchard Park instead of Baltimore this time around. Plus, are the Ravens players quietly as cocky about this game as most their fans? That, other things to like about Sunday, thoughts on the Kansas City/Houston game and much more. Major props to Talking Buffalo sponsor, Sonny Red's at 1841 Abbott Road in Lackawanna, just minutes from Highmark Stadium. On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by Matt Warren of SB Nation for their weekly chat, this week focused on stepping back a little to appreciate the Buffalo Bills 2024 regular season before we get started with the suddenness of the NFL playoffs this weekend. When it gets to be this time of year, your season could end with just one less than stellar afternoon. That's the way it goes in single elimination tournaments. Patrick and Matt spend a good chunk time focusing on making sure to enjoy these past four months for the Buffalo Bills, especially considering what most people thought this campaign would look like for Buffalo. Patrick goes as far to call this one of his most enjoyable seasons following the Bills. To really appreciate the Bills the guys take a look at how the AFC east shockingly crumbled around Buffalo this year, especially with two teams that many thought were better than the Bills going into 2024, Miami and the New York Jets. They discuss how not only was this season brutal for the two but the short term future doesn't appear all that great right now either. From there Matt has plenty of thoughts on Buffalo drawing Denver in the wildcard round. They also talk about Damar Hamlin being named starter by Sean McDermott earlier this week to squash any potential starting safety controversy, thoughts on the rest of the playoffs and plenty more. Patrick Moran is joined by Matt Warren of SB Nation for plenty of Buffalo Bills and NFL talk on the final episode of Talking Buffalo for 2024. The Bills are locked into the second seed in the AFC after smashing the Jets last Sunday and will surely be resting most of their starters in Sunday's finale at Foxboro on Sunday. Of course, the Patriots are currently locked into to the first pick of the 2025 NFL draft so their incentive to win may not be the greatest either. Still, there's plenty of worthy talking points surrounding Buffalo and how this week gets handled and beyond. Among them discussed is linebacker Matt Milano, who Patrick think played far and away the best of his four games against New York last week. Matt Warren has thoughts on if the version we saw on Sunday is good enough to feel confident in starting over Dorian Williams in the wildcard round when the playoffs begin. Both also have thoughts on how much if at all Milano should play against the Patriots--weighing one final tune up against the chance of getting hurt again. The guys also hit on Von Miller playing very well last week, Mack Hollins continuing to be a great addition to the team, potential concern about Damar Hamlin's prolonged absence and if they're getting Josh Allen vs Lamar Jackson for MVP debate fatigue. That plus projecting what Bills will make the Pro Bowl, some of their favorite 2024 NFL storylines around the league and much more. Hope everyone listening has a blessed 2025! Buffalo Bills Post Christmas Big Talking Points

On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by Matt Warren of SB Nation to go over several of the biggest Buffalo Bills talking points after a pair of Christmas games around the AFC most definitely did not go the way the team hoped. The presents were great, as was the food and of course spending time with loved ones. But from the perspective of the Bills things did not go well in the Kansas City vs Pittsburgh and Baltimore vs Houston matchups. As a result the Bills are officially out of the running for the one seed despite a 12-3 record and also couldn't lock up the second seed either. In terms of how those two games effected the Bills path to a Super Bowl, it was a worst case scenario--which of course doesn't mean Buffalo can't win the AFC when it's all said and done, the guys just talk about how that road will likely be significantly tougher. As a result of Wednesday's games the Bills will have to knock off the hapless New York Jets at Highmark Stadium on Sunday to officially wrap up the second seed and surely rest their starters in the finale next week at Foxboro. The guys talk a little about the upcoming game and some of the silver linings that come from Buffalo not locking down the two seed before this Jets game, including the chance to get some of the stank from last week's performance against the Patriots off them as well a little season stat padding for those who care about that kind of thing. Speaking of for those who care, the MVP battle between Josh Allen and Lamar Jackson is definitely on full blast and the guys have plenty of thoughts on that, Kansas City yet again being a thorn to everyone's side, the Texans being toast, who may be be the seven seed and tons more. On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by Matt Warren of SB Nation to talk several Buffalo Bills topics, including the maturation of Josh Allen that has transformed into quite possibly the best quarterback if not overall player in the entire NFL. Allen has always had the physical gifts that make people marvel and they've been on display for several years now, none so more than 2024. However, as fun as that is to see it's been the mental part of his game that has allowed him to elevate his play even further. The guys talk about how the excitement and chaos is still in his arsenal but it feels more controlled most the time. Josh is patient in poised both in the pocket and on the move--it never feels like he's truly rattled. That's resulted in mistakes not having a domino effect. Patrick suggests that it feels like when Tom Brady at some point of his career he'd seen everything the defense could throw at him and the game just felt easier from there. They also talk a linebacker situation between Matt Milano and Dorian Williams that could more interesting now that Milano has suffered a groin injury, though it doesn't appear to be serious. Still, Milano's looked kind of rusty, understandably so with all the time he missed. If he needs to miss anymore time, can Sean McDermott trust him over Williams in a playoff situation? Also, a respected content creator said that Sean McDermott is the best Bills head coach of all-time and Patrick was left shocked that someone would think it's not Marv Levy. Does Matt agree? On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by Matt Warren of SB Nation to discuss a myriad of Buffalo Bills & NFL topics, including a discussion on if the Bills are headed towards a Matt Milano dilemma. The former All-Pro linebacker returned to the Bills lineup two games ago and the rust is clearly there. We've seen (very) small signs of how great Milano can be here and there but by large, he's got a ways to go. The guys have a discussion on how long of a leash Sean McDermott and Bobby Babich should give Milano to see if the problem is simply rust that'll get shaken off with more reps over the next few weeks, or if he's going to be 2022 Tre White and 2023 Von Miller where his spot on the field is a liability, in which case they should go back to Dorian Williams for the playoffs. They also talk about McDermott's latest significant in-game coaching gaffe and Matt's asked for what his confidence is in the Bills head coach. Sure, he learns from his mistakes but he also creatively finds new ones to make far too often. Also, they spend some time just appreciating what Josh Allen brings to the team and not taking for granted how much fun it is to watch him play. The Bills are 9-2 and for all intents and purposes have already wrapped up the AFC east for a fifth straight season. That's well and good but this is a football team that has its sights set higher than just winning their division. The guys go over some of the biggest factors that await them in their quest to get over the hump and win an AFC championship. Some of the topics are quite obviously, especially Josh Allen continuing to play at a MVP level and the team getting some long overdue injury luck deep into the season. But there's other key factors as well, including Ed Oliver and the defensive tackles continue to ascend as the season goes on, Dalton Kincaid putting up the production we expected before the season started in September, the safety play remaining at least steady and not having a game potentially decided by a kick, even if Tyler Bass did drill a franchise-record 61-yarder to beat Miami a few weeks ago. They also spend some time examining the AFC, including a discussion on if they'd prefer Buffalo to face Denver or Miami in the first round. It's a surprise to most and maybe even the Bills themselves that they find themselves with nine wins through their first 11 games. The guys talk about that and if there were any doubts about if this team was legitimately good, that got answered in a big way with their validation win over Kansas City this past Sunday. Did that win put Josh Allen among the biggest frontrunners for MVP and is Sean McDermott in the mix for NFL Coach of the Year? Also, Matt Milano is close to returning and the guys talk about how they think McDermott may deploy him back on the field. This also feels like the week if the Bills are going to reach out to Micah Hyde, but do the Bills even need to upgrade the spot over Damar Hamlin? In fact, is Hyde even an upgrade? You play the team in front of you that's on the schedule and the Bills have handled business wonderfully so far this season, but their slew of opponents hasn't turned out to be daunting. In fact, Buffalo's only played three teams so far that currently have a winning record and two of them resulted in both their losses. The heel turn isn't on the level of Seth Rollins turning on the Shield, but the guys decide to take a break from all the positivity talk about the Bills (mostly well deserved) and play Devil's advocate today, focusing today's episode on some things that already have or could ail the Bills as they progress through what's become a most promising season. Among the things the guys discuss is the Bills playing a relatively weak schedule so far, especially compared to what it was expected to look like back in September. They also talk about how their penchant for racking up penalties is a problem, slow starts in at least half their games so far this season, Curtis Samuel looking like a complete bust right now and not having a lot of good luck on the injury front. On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by Matt Warren from SB Nation for their weekly chat, examining the significance of Buffalo Bills offensive coordinator Joe Brady properly adapting to their personnel and new top weapon going forward in addition to several Bills and NFL topics. The Bills offense has been efficient and at times downright successful but it's not without flaws, particularly in the first of games. The guys talk about the boring and sometimes predictable nature of the Bills play calling being an issue offensively at times and how critical it is for the unit to start being a little more unpredictable if not air-oriented with the arrival of Amari Cooper, who made an instant impact against Tennessee last Sunday. They also have a belief that the offensive pecking order has become established in the passing game, while Patrick asks Matt for his thoughts on how he'd divide the running back load between James Cook and emerging rookie Ray Davis. On the other side of the ball there's cause for concern following injuries on Sunday to both starting linebackers Terrel Bernard and Dorian Williams. Of the two Williams seems like the less significant injury and worries weren't squashed when Sean McDermott chose to not give any updates on either, particularly Bernard. Matt talks about how the defense is night day with Bernard out there compared to Baylon Spector. They also take a peak into the Seattle game on Sunday as well as a spin around the AFC and an East division that Bills now have (very) firm control of. That and plenty more. Ugly Wins Still Look Sexy In The Standings (Bills Biggest Takeaways)

On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by Matt Warren from SB Nation and together they have their biggest takeaways on the heels of the Buffalo Bills 23-20 victory on Monday Night football over the New York Jets, an ugly win that looked very sexy in the standings on Tuesday morning. This subject matter was pushed back a day after the major Amari Cooper trade on Tuesday afternoon. Monday was a game marred by penalties, missed kicks and unforced errors by both teams but in the end, the Bills prevailed and as a result now have a commanding 2.5 game lead over the Jets just six weeks into the season, something very expected. Patrick spends time going over some of the biggest reasons the Bills moved firmly into the driver's seat in the AFC east, including Josh Allen reverting back to the type of play that had him looking like a strong MVP candidate through the first three weeks of season. Also, Ray Davis got the start for an injured James Cook and boy did he ever take the ball and run with it, literally. Also discussed is the huge (huge) returns of Taron Johnson and Taylor Rapp playing a big role in Buffalo's win, AJ Epenesa being a factor as well as Curtis Samuel having his first meaningful week as a Bill. This all helped overcome many of Buffalo's deficiencies, including the inexcusable decision by Sean McDermott just before halftime, a defense that got away with yet again giving up too many explosive plays, a kicker who has the yips at this point and other stupid mistakes the Bills made. They also talks about the Jets trading for Davante Adams and of course, Cooper joining the Bills after a Brandon Beane trade and an opportunity for the Bills to really run away with their division over the next month and much more. On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by recurring guest Matt Warren from SB Nation to discuss a handful of potential Buffalo Bills trade candidates at wide receiver in addition to other topics involving the team and around the AFC. The past two weeks and especially last Sunday in Houston really emphasized the Bills need to find themselves a productive wide receiver. Head coach Sean McDermott said he's still confident in the group but even he said there's concerns with the unit when he spoke to the media. Matt goes over a list of possible candidates around the league that could come in and give the Bills passing game a much needed boost, ranging from possible yet unlikely to downright extremely doable for Bills general manager Brandon Beane. Also, the guys discuss the confidence level they have in McDermott and his coaching staff after the debacle ending in Houston. They also discuss Josh Allen winning AFC Offensive Player of the Month but still off to a relatively slow start, Beane's offseason free agent class that's been noticeably underwhelming through five weeks, why the Bills stink on third down so far this year, a look around the conference and tons more. What's Up With The Bills Defensive Tackles?

On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by Matt Warren for SB Nations to discuss several Buffalo Bills and AFC topics, including a discussion of why the Bills interior defensive line is largely underachieving so far this season. The Bills have won three of their first four games and for the most the defense has played well. However, the defensive tackle has surprisingly been inconsistent if not a sore spot. Ed Oliver has looked ordinary at times and invisible at others while DaQuan Jones hasn't come close to the effective start he had over the first month last season, when it could be argued he was the team's defensive MVP early on. Patrick and Matt discuss both guys and try to figure out why they're not getting the production that at times becomes sorely missed, none so more than Sunday night in Baltimore when both were complete non-factors. They also discuss veteran addition Austin Johnson and third-round rookie DeWayne Carter getting off to very slow starts as well. Defensive tackle play wasn't the only area of this team that feels exposed on the hells of the Bills embarrassing loss in Baltimore Sunday night. The guys discuss why they think this team has both a safety and wide receiver problem, something that's been brewing since before the start of training camp. That said, the guys are careful to not completely overreact to one game and offer perspective on Buffalo winning three of their first four games. Matt also has some thoughts from around the league, including the Miami Dolphins being absolute toast already in the AFC east, the New York Jets a team that feels completely capable of imploding, the Kansas City Chiefs continuing to find ways to win every week, respect due to the Ravens and plenty more. What Buffalo Bills Sample Sizes Are Most Sustainable?

On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by SB Nation's Matt Warren to discuss several Buffalo Bills and NFL topics, including what Buffalo sample size metrics so far this season feel the most sustainable. The Bills have begun the season with wins over Arizona and divisional rival Miami and have looked good doing it. However, how much of their early sample size is sustainable? Patrick gives Matt several scenarios and asks him to score them on a sustainability level from 1-10, including Von Miller on pace for double digit sacks, Josh Allen having fewer than 10 interceptions, James Cook having over 1,250 yards rushing and no pass catcher finishing the season with 75 catches or 850 receiving yards. It's a fun exercise with a few surprising answers. Matt also has thoughts on who he's most and least impressed with around the NFL through the first two weeks as well as what's most surprised by. That and much more. On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by SB Nation Associate Director Matt Warren to discuss some final takeaways from the Buffalo Bills opening week victory before quickly turning the page to look ahead to Thursday night's important early season AFC east showdown at the Miami Dolphins. Happy to say here that Matt will be a recurring guest on Talking Buffalo throughout this season and he debuts today with some of things he's most and least excited about with the Bills on the heels of their victory over Arizona to start the season 1-0. The play of Josh Allen and Greg Rousseau is obvious, but what else is Matt happy about? Conversely, there's players and areas of concern about this team in need of discussion and Matt lays out some of them as well. Then the focus gets shifted to Miami, where the pair of 1-0 teams will clash in prime time on Thursday. The Bills have utterly owned the Dolphins during the Josh Allen era, going 10-2 with Josh winning AFC Offensive Player of the Week a mind blowing five times against Miami alone through his career. What are some things that need to happen for Allen and Buffalo's dominance to continue.? The guys take a look at the strengths and weakness of Miami and start to piece together a preview. That plus Matt has some thoughts from ongoings around the league, some talk about Buffalo Rumblings and much more.
