Can Seattle repeat as Super Bowl champions? Will the Cardinals be the worst team in football? Can the Rams go undefeated?
The St. Louis Cardinals suffered one of the most painful losses of the season Sunday, blowing a 4-0 lead in the ninth inning before Kyle Schwarber's two-run walk-off homer gave Philadelphia a 6-4 victory. The loss capped a disappointing 5-6 road trip and dropped the Cardinals to 66-66. So, is the NL Wild Card still realistically in play? Absolutely—but the margin for error is getting smaller. The Cardinals entered the weekend only 3½ games behind the final Wild Card spot, but they're now sitting at .500 while teams such as Arizona, San Diego and Philadelphia remain ahead of them in the race. Arizona's win over Cincinnati kept the Diamondbacks firmly in the mix at 69-62. The bigger concern may be whether St. Louis can survive its pitching situation. Andre Pallante is on the injured list with elbow inflammation, while Hunter Dobbins is also dealing with a forearm issue. The Cardinals will need their pitching depth—and their offense—to hold up over the final weeks. Then it's time for our 2026 NFL Divisional Winners Predictions. We go division by division and make our picks—not necessarily just taking the betting favorite. The current market has Buffalo favored in the AFC East, Baltimore in the AFC North, Houston in the AFC South and Kansas City among the AFC West favorites, while Philadelphia is favored in the NFC East and the NFC West remains particularly interesting after the Rams' offseason addition of Myles Garrett. The fun debate: Which division winner are we most confident in, and which favorite is most likely to get knocked off? The 2026 NFL futures market shows just how tight some of these races could be.

The NFL feels the need to schedule big time divisional games early in the season and it makes no sense to us!
Plenty of craziness in the Divisional Round of the NFL Playoffs. We had the Denver Broncos sending Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills home in overtime then finding out that Bo Nix will miss the rest of the postseason with a broken ankle then hearing that the loss cost Sean McDermott his job. In the late game on Saturday evening, the San Francisco 49ers finally ran out of steam and fell to Sam Darnold and the Seattle Seahawks defense. CJ Stroud couldn't find his Houston Texans receivers early in the game against the New England Patriots and the NFL's scariest defense will be heading home. And then Matthew Stafford and Sean McVay held on in overtime against Caleb Williams and Ben Johnson to send the LA Rams to the conference championship and the Chicago Bears home. Chris and the fellas break everything down from the Divisional Round and give the Conference Championships a lookahead. Best show talking ball out there. January 16, 2026 - Season 16, Episode 80 of The Terrible Podcast is now in the can. In this Friday afternoon episode, Alex Kozora and I get right back into discussing everything related to the Pittsburgh Steelers continuing to search for their next head coach. The Steelers have signed several players to Reserve/Future contracts since our last show, so Alex and I make sure to catch listeners up on all of the recent transactions made by the team. The Steelers will reportedly allow all coaches currently under contract with the team to interview for other jobs, so Alex and I discuss that news. We also go over the brief list of current coaches under contract that at least have a small chance of being retained once a new head coach is hired. Three more head coach candidates now have interviews set with the Steelers since our last show so that means Alex and I must discuss Klay Kubiak, Ejiro Evero, and Jeff Hafley being added to the list, which now sits at eight in total. Alex wrote a detailed post on Friday on why Hafley is his favorite choice to be the Steelers new head coach, so we go through a lot of his thoughts on that. We also go over reasons why Hafley might not be the perfect choice to succeed Mike Tomlin. Alex and I talk a little bit about my favorite candidate at this point to be the Steelers new head coach, Chris Shula. We also discuss a few other candidates that might get interviews in the coming days. A few of the candidates have interesting links to certain players, both currently on the Steelers and on other teams, so there are some conversations to be had concerning that topic. With a lot of readers and listeners having questions about Steelers OLB T.J. Watt and whether he might be tradeable this offseason, Alex and I dive into his current contract situation, the financials related to his salary and possible dead money, and the probability related to him being dealt before the 2026 NFL Draft gets underway in late April. Later in this episode the news breaks that special teams coordinator Danny Smith is interviewing with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, so we make sure to hit on that item. Alex and I then give our picks against the spread for the four NFL Divisional round playoff games that will take place this weekend based on the betting lines provided by show sponsor MyBookie.ag. This 122-minute episode also discusses several other minor topics not noted above and we close things out by answering a few emails we have received from listeners. steelersdepot.com Learn more about your ad choices.
