A damning report into the Nicola Bulley case finds that the release of sensitive personal information was “avoidable and unnecessary”. On the release of personal information, Lancashire Police's Deputy Chief Constable Sacha Hatchett said: "We worked proactively with the Information Commissioner's Office immediately after the disclosure was made and they concluded that no action was required against the force.” Following the disappearance which sparked a TikTok frenzy, what can we learn from the review? Adam talks to the former HM Inspector of Constabulary, Zoë Billingham, and disinformation correspondent, Marianna Spring. And, the Covid Inquiry continued, with chief medical officer for England, Chris Whitty, taking the stand. Adam is joined by Alex Thomas from the Institute for Government and health correspondent, Jim Reed. Police who investigated the disappearance of Nicola Bulley from beside a riverbank have been heavily criticised in a damning report. Lancashire Police's decision to reveal the mother-of-two's mental health issues was condemned as "avoidable and unnecessary". The College of Policing's chief executive officer Andy Marsh said there was "substantial learning" for the Lancashire force. On the Sky News Daily, host Niall Paterson is joined by former chief constable of Northumbria Police Sue Sim, who was the top officer at the force when gunman Raoul Moat shot his ex-girlfriend and killed her new lover, before shooting a police officer. She explains the criticisms and the difficulties when dealing with high-profile cases. Plus, Martin Brunt, our crime correspondent, details what the report says about Lancashire Police's investigation. In this 50th episode celebration, Liz and Michelle chat about turning 50 themselves and the idea of making a 50 at 50 list. They are then joined by celebrity journalist Suzanne Baum who shares some of her own 50 at 50 list, including facing her fears of heights. Suzanne opens up about her career interviewing huge names like David Beckham and Amanda Holden, and how she has used her platform for important issues like the Nicola Bulley case. She gives advice to aspiring journalists and talks about embarrassing moments, dream interviewees, and how certain hard-hitting stories have affected her. An insightful look into the world of journalism and the power of being your true self after 50. KEY TAKEAWAYS Suzanne has built great celeb relationships through integrity e.g. not sensationalising, but she also enjoys breaking real news stories. Turning 50 has given Suzanne the courage to stand up to dodgy media outlets and represent brands she believes in. Mind over matter is key to Suzanne facing fears like heights for her 50 at 50 list. The Nicola Bulley story and talking to people affected by Covid were emotionally tough for Suzanne as a journalist. Suzanne's dream interviewee is the Spurs football team to impress her kids! Peter Andre and Amanda Holden are two of the nicest celebs Suzanne has interviewed. Suzanne's advice for aspiring journalists is don't do it for the money, focus on digital skills, and always research your subject. BEST MOMENTS "I think it makes the reader be able to relate to you as well because you're talking about something so personal and so tragic, I think makes it really meaningful." "I'll tell you what trips me up is the pronunciation of names. So, Virgil van Dyck, who I was interviewing last week, he's... a very famous Liverpool player with 40 million followers. I kept thinking, oh my god, I'm so gonna just say, I'm gonna say his name wrong." But age is a gift and you know every day that we do get it. It's a wonderful thing that we get to do things like this, like the podcast, reinvent ourselves in our lives over 50. If you enjoyed this episode, please rate, and review it on your podcast platform. The Nicola Bulley incident gets talked about, a lot. The question that we are asking ourselves here is 'Should we be talking about it?' and if so 'How should it best be approached?' The Nicola Bulley family are going through a lot and emotions are running high through everyone that is talking about it and this is causing way more problems than it is solving so we have a few things to suggest is all.MERCH -- https://the-deductionist.myspreadshop...E-SCAPE GAME -- https://www.youtube.com/@thedeductionistteamEverything else you need -- https://linktr.ee/bencardallMusic from - http://www.robertjohncollins.comDon't be strangersBen and Adam#deduction #nicolabulley #logic Hosted on Acast. On January 27, 2023, British woman Nicola Bulley (45) took her dog Willow for a walk along the river in their village, as she had done thousands of times before according to her family. At 9.01am, Nicola connected to a Teams call for her work. By 9.35am, she had vanished. Her phone, still connected to the call, was found abandoned on a park bench. Her dog Willow was waiting nearby. Nicola's body would be found over three weeks later in reeds, around 1 mile from where she was last seen. Is this a case of suicide, misadventure or something sinister?
