I love the idea of having a motherhood mission statement and hope you’ll create your own after listening to this conversation with Nicole. Listen in to hear Nicole share: The impact a road trip from Seattle to South America had on her identity How creating a personal mission statement shifted her sense of self and identity How she recognized her loss of identity in motherhood - and then rebuilt it How to create your own Motherhood Mission Statement The two things she wishes she did differently when she became a mom (her advice to new moms!) Our world has been turned upside down over the last couple of months and with that there has been an abundance of guidelines and information, some good, some bad. I sat down with Dr. Amanda Stevens-Sadler, (doctor, coach, and professional athlete) and Dr. Nicole Adams (coach and educational psychologist) to discuss how to stay healthy, both physically and mentally, during these uncertain times. In addition to Dr. Steven-Saddlers tips on reducing the duration and intensity of your workouts and which supplements can help boost your immune system, Dr. Adams had the following tips:1) Shift your mindset from competitive to self-growth: redefine success as small tasks you can accomplish each day that lead to growth2) Remove expectations: replace strict expectations with small, manageable, specific goals (such as I will do 10 push ups and 10 air squats every morning)3) Use open-ended, optimistic language: What can it hurt to believe in the best? We all know about the gravity of this situation, we are not burying our heads in the sand but we can be hopeful and optimistic - it also sets the tone for your family at home4) Get creative - Be open to trying virtual races or virtual training, it's a way to connect with others without being physically in the same space5) Focus on things you CAN do as opposed to things you CAN'T do. You can still run and bike, you can still build fitness, you can still do strength sessions, you can still plan for the best future version of yourself6) Learn a new skill: a new language, computer programming, web design, learn to plant a garden, take an online painting class, complete your professional CEU's, etc.

Anyone who has ever stood at the starting line knows how important confidence can be for athletes embarking on a difficult race. But, as a coach, how do you help instill that confidence in your athletes before race day?Dr. Nicole Adams has wrestled with that question much of her career as an endurance coach, sports psychologist, and an athlete. Adams recommends working with athletes to develop a healthy confidence, or self efficacy, based on training and preparation. Among other things, one of the tools discussed in this episode is a "confidence resume" or a list of all of the things an athlete has already accomplished in training that has prepared them for race day.
