http://www.astronomycast.com/archive/ From May 25, 2009. Last week (May 18, 2009) we took a peek into the tiny world of quantum mechanics, and its unintuitive, but very accurate mathematical predictions. And although we all appreciate the physics lesson, you're probably wondering what this all has to do with astronomy. Well, today we bring it all home and explain how quantum mechanics has given astronomers one of the most powerful tools they have to study the nature of the cosmos.   Spectra — an excellent overview by James B. Are your go-to health habits suddenly working against you? If you are in your 40s or beyond and wondering why everything you used to do no longer delivers results, this episode could change everything.Jenn Trepeck, host of Salad with a Side of Fries, sits down with registered holistic nutritionist and life coach Lara Frendjian to unpack why perimenopause symptoms demand a completely new approach to mornings, menopause weight loss, and daily metabolic health. Together, they explore how slow morning routines and smarter hormone balance strategies can transform energy, mood, and weight from the inside out. What You Will Learn in This Episode:✅ Why perimenopause symptoms can appear years before cycle changes, and how declining progesterone and erratic estrogen create a body that is more vulnerable to stress, weight gain, and hormone imbalance.✅ How a slow morning routine as brief as five minutes sends powerful signals to the nervous system, supporting circadian rhythm, reducing cortisol, and setting the tone for the entire day.✅ The surprising science behind caffeine and cortisol, including why delaying your first cup of coffee by at least 90 minutes can eliminate the afternoon energy crash and reduce dependence on stimulants.✅ Why fasted workouts may be doing more harm than good during perimenopause, and what a smarter pre-workout snack strategy looks like for protecting blood sugar stability and adrenal health. The Salad With a Side of Fries podcast, hosted by Jenn Trepeck, explores real-life wellness and weight-loss topics, debunking myths, misinformation, and flawed science surrounding nutrition and the food industry. Let's dive into wellness and weight loss for real life, including drinking, eating out, and skipping the grocery store.TIMESTAMPS: 00:00 Introduction to perimenopause symptoms and why habits that once worked no longer serve women in midlife04:53 Lara's background and her journey from accounting to holistic nutrition 10:03 How progesterone decline begins around age 35 and why the stress bucket overflows as hormones shift during midlife11:10 The thermostat analogy: how daily habits function as signals that shape hormone balance 15:18 What a slow morning routine actually looks like, why it does not need to take long, and the case for avoiding your phone first thing20:02 Why delaying caffeine and cortisol disruption by 90 minutes or more reduces reliance on stimulants 22:39 The power of a protein-forward breakfast, the front-load eating method, and how blood sugar stability drives fat loss without dieting28:10 Fasted workouts during perimenopause: the signs your exercise is too stressful and when lower intensity movement is the smarter choice31:32 Pre-workout snack strategy, the role of electrolytes and mineral balance, and how eating before movement supports cortisol regulation33:13 Evening habits that affect the next morning, the 12-hour overnight fast, and why the circadian rhythm and sleep window are inseparableKEY TAKEAWAYS:

If you've been feeling constantly exhausted, burned out, or mentally drained, even after you've caught up on sleep…this episode is for you. Because sometimes we're tired in ways sleep alone can't fix. Today's truth-bomb: sleep and rest are not the same thing. And most chronically drained people are missing the kind of rest that would actually restore them. In today's quickie, we're breaking down the 4 types of fatigue that could be draining your energy — and why most people are trying to fix the wrong problem. This will help you identify why you're so tired all the time, and what actually works to feel better. Backed by research, fatigue is a multidimensional experience, and until you address the specific type of exhaustion you're experiencing, no amount of sleep, coffee, or productivity hacks will fix it. Tune in to hear about: The 4 main types of fatigue: physical, cognitive (mental overload), emotional, and existential Why doomscrolling, screen time, and constant stimulation are worsening your exhaustion Active vs passive mental fatigue (and why both leave you drained) How people-pleasing and unreciprocated emotional labor lead to deep exhaustion Why you need to close those “open mental tabs” with monotasking How to reduce digital overload and give your brain real rest Why monotasking and closing mental loops can instantly improve focus and energy The power of awe, purpose, and gratitude in reversing existential burnout For advertising and sponsorship inquiries, please contact Frequency Podcast Network. Burnout rarely looks expensive at first. Then it starts showing up in cash flow, EBITDA, and decision quality. Most founders treat balance like a time problem. The bigger problem is what depleted leadership energy is already costing. When physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual energy start breaking down, clarity narrows, patience shortens, and recovery slows. The damage usually begins before anyone calls it burnout. What follows is rarely dramatic at first. It appears in judgment, in how pressure gets carried through the organization, and in the quality of decisions made when the stakes are highest. By the time the impact is visible in performance, the pattern has often been compounding for longer than the CEO realized. Robert Mixon brings the perspective of a retired U.S. Army Major General who led in high-pressure environments where resilience, recovery, and decision quality had real operational consequences. Try it for 15% off, here. What if the real problem isn't salt itself but the way we've stripped it, feared it, and deadened the water we drink it with? We're sitting down with Darryl Bosshardt, a salt expert from Redmond, Utah, who grew up inside his family's mineral business. We had a lot of fun recording this episode because he's as intensely nerdy about salt as we are about birth and motherhood. We question how salt ended up cast as the villain and what that fear has quietly done inside us, especially when studies and headlines ignored context like water and overall diet. We open up the tension between the mineral-rich salt and spring water humans adapted to and the stripped, “dead” versions most people are leaning on today. Instead of handing you another protocol, we stay focused on how it actually feels when you give your body enough of what it runs on and stop fighting its design. You'll Learn:[00:00:00] Introduction[00:06:09] How ancient civilizations survived and thrived around salt deposits[00:11:52] The clever way our ancestors found salt and water[00:17:17] The fascinating science of salt crystal size and why it changes how salty food tastes on your tongue[00:20:30] The biblical origins of "kosher salt" and why it's called that (it has nothing to do with being blessed)[00:26:31] The 1954 mouse study that demonized salt[00:32:17] The shocking truth: consuming less than 2,300mg of sodium resulted in a 430% increase in heart attacks[00:34:19] The Brewer's Diet approach to preventing preeclampsia with unrestricted salt, protein, and water[00:40:16] What "dead water" is and why spring water contains the full electrolyte profile our bodies expect[00:47:32] The bottle experiment that proves RO water is aggressively trying to dissolve everything it touches[00:52:30] Drinking demineralized water makes your body pull minerals from your jawbone and teeth[01:03:05] The heavy metals question: understanding parts per billion versus actual micrograms consumed[01:13:04] How to evaluate ANY product with three simple questions about producer, source, and processingResources Mentioned:Find A Spring | WebsiteWater & Salt, the Essence of Life by Barbara Hendel and Peter Ferreira | BookFDA Total Diet Study | ArticleFind more from Darryl Bosshardt by following him on LinkedIn.Find more from Dr. Leah:Dr. Leah Gordon | InstagramDr. Leah Gordon | WebsiteWomanhood Wellness | WebsiteFind more from Dr. Morgan:Dr. Morgan MacDermott | InstagramDr. Morgan MacDermott | WebsiteUse code HEALTHYMOTHER and save 15% at RedmondFor 20% off your first order at Needed, use code HEALTHYMOTHERSave $260 at Lumebox, use code HEALTHYASAMOTHER

In this episode, Robert and Kay Lee get real about how this dynamic plays out in their own relationship, from social events and vacations to business strategy sessions and conferences. They reflect on their early frustrations and how intentional communication helped them transform energy differences from a source of conflict into a strength. They share practical tips for managing expectations, planning ahead, and respecting each other's rhythms—whether you're attending a networking event, hosting a retreat, or simply planning your weekend. From code words to separate cars, from downtime gaps on vacation to avoiding heavy convos at bedtime, this episode offers insight into how married couples can honor each other's needs while still pursuing shared goals. Plus, they announce new in-person events—like their upcoming wine pairing dinner, concerts in the park, and even a ski trip in 2026. If you've ever wished your spouse could just keep up (or slow down), this is the episode that will help you find peace, pace, and partnership. Key Takeaways: Don't assume your spouse should match your energy—discuss your needs and make a plan ahead of time. Rest isn't always about sleep; it can also mean freedom from rigid schedules or overstimulation. Schedule important conversations when you're both alert—avoid conflict-heavy talks late at night or during busy moments. Protect the bedroom as a place of intimacy and peace, not stress or business talk. Even high-energy spouses benefit from margin; intentional rest improves clarity, focus, and connection.

My 31 y.o. daughter has tried over the last few years to manage her PCOS w traditional Chinese herbs, acupuncture, yoga & pilates which have only given her limited success. Her HbA1c were in the pre-diabetic range. She lives in the NYC area w a demanding job. Now, working w a Functional Med provider, her tests showed high levels of cortisol throughout the day & hormonal imbalances. Weekend hikes & being near nature on occasion have helped her stress levels as shown by her Oura ring data. After about a month of the Rx regimen, she has noticed an improvement in her HbA1c and has hired a personal trainer. For true, sustainable wellness, what do you recommend?                                       Becky: Hi Dr. Cabral! Thank you for ALL that you do and thank you for using your story to help heal others! I am an IHP2 and need advice. I am working with a client, she is in her mid 30s and she has had horrific breath and overall dryness of her entire body since a child. Her dad and siblings have the same issues along with her oldest daughter. She has tried EVERY imaginable product to fix her breath with zero success. She has done the 21 day detox, & is finishing up the CBO Protocol with H.Pylori & will be starting the Finisher. She did a HTMA last year with someone else but nothing alarming. She is hopeless that her breath can't be fixed. What is your suggestion as to what direction we should go next? She does not drink filtered water, is on birth control & an anti depressant. THANKS!!!!            Kayley: I am 24 yrs old 5'2" 123lbs. I have diagnosed Rheumatoid Arthritis that has severely impacted my life. I currently take Methotrexate, Plaquenil, Folic Acid, and Folinic Acid. I am struggling with debilitating fatigue, and my IBS has recently flared up. Why Your Brain Shuts Down Over Cereal and What to Do About It

Have you ever been so mentally drained that even choosing breakfast cereal felt impossible? It's not just that you're being indecisive. It's decision fatigue, and it's your nervous system's way of saying your nervous system capacity is running low. Think of nervous system capacity like an internal energy bank account. Every decision, big or small, is a withdrawal. When that account is empty, even simple choices can feel like climbing a mountain. Your brain hits “insufficient funds,” and suddenly you're overwhelmed. In this Biology Behind It mini episode, Dr. Aimie responds to a listener  who shared his embarrassing moment of having to leave the grocery store because choosing cereal felt impossible! This question opens the door to understanding decision fatigue, neuroception, and why our survival system treats every choice as a potential threat. You'll hear more on: Why every decision is a withdrawal from your capacity account Why your nervous system doesn't distinguish between small and big decisions What happens when your energy reserves can't meet the demands you're facing How attachment filters from early life determine which decisions drain more energy than others Why low energy triggers trauma biology and chronic functional freeze Practical strategies to reduce decision fatigue Whether you're struggling with decision overwhelm or supporting someone experiencing these "adult meltdowns," this episode helps you understand why small decisions can feel impossible and gives you concrete tools to build your capacity back up.

Many people feel constantly exhausted and easily overwhelmed, even when they're doing everything "right". They're eating well, exercising, and trying to manage stress. They can't understand why small things overwhelm them so much or why they always feel so tired and stressed.  One simple email or a broken appliance can completely derail their day, leaving them feeling like they're barely keeping it together. In this episode, Dr. Aimie Apigian explains how your body doesn't react to stress based on what's happening to you. It actually reacts based on whether you have enough energy left to handle it. Think of your nervous system like a bank account. Every challenge, decision, or demand, no matter how small, takes energy out of your account. When you're already running low from everyday stressors, even tiny problems can push you into overwhelm and emotional shutdown. This isn't about changing your mindset or trying harder. It's about understanding what's actually happening in your nervous system when you get overwhelmed by daily life, so you can start making small changes that add up to feeling stronger and more resilient. You'll hear more on: [3:52] The simple difference between life's demands and your energy to handle them [5:32] How small events can feel overwhelming [9:36] The daily energy "drains" that add up over time and quietly exhaust your system [11:51] What's actually happening in your body during shutdown and overwhelm [8:06] Why even good things (like travel or celebrations) can still drain your energy [17:11] How to build up your reserves so you're ready for unexpected challenges [19:33] Simple ways to reduce daily energy drains and add small "deposits" back to your system Whether you're personally dealing with chronic exhaustion and burnout, or you're a practitioner helping clients who want better stress management techniques that actually work, this episode gives you practical action steps to start feeling better right away.   Resources/Guides: Biology of Trauma book - how the body experiences and holds fear, pain and overwhelm, and how to heal. Highly sensitive people and empaths often feel like they're drowning in grief while others seem to handle loss with ease. They absorb emotions from everyone around them, feel overwhelmed by everyday environments, and find themselves reaching for things they know aren't good for them just to numb the pain. But what if that sensitivity is actually a person's greatest strength? In this episode, Dr. Aimie reveals why highly sensitive people experience grief so differently and how understanding your nervous system's unique needs can transform your relationship with both sensitivity and loss. She shares her own vulnerable story of self-sabotage after her best day ever, showing how even those who understand trauma can still get hijacked by grief. You'll find out about why being an empath isn't about becoming less sensitive, but learning to support your sensitive system so you can hold pain without being overwhelmed by it. Dr. Aimie explains how your sensitivities can either drain your energy or become your superpowers, and why energy management is actually the key to living your life's purpose. You'll hear more on:  How to tell if you're a highly sensitive person Why empaths feel grief more deeply and get overwhelmed faster than others Simple ways to support your nervous system How to tell which sensitivities drain your energy and which ones are your strengths Why highly sensitive people numb emotional pain in self-sabotaging ways What to do when grief takes over and you feel out of control emotionally The biggest challenge for highly sensitive people and how to handle it Easy ways to support your nervous system before you get overwhelmed Whether you're someone navigating grief yourself or a practitioner supporting sensitive clients, this episode offers practical insights to help you understand and support sensitive systems through the grieving process, transforming sensitivity into a strength.   Resources/Guides: Biology of Trauma book - how the body experiences and holds fear, pain and overwhelm, and how to heal.
