This episode is brought to you by Gut Food, BiOptimizers, InsideTracker, and Pendulum. Relationships can feel complicated. We often go into them looking for others to fulfill whatever we refuse to give ourselves. We want our unmet needs to be met by this other person, without doing the inner work to help ourselves. Owning our needs actually makes it easier for other people to meet our needs. This sounds counterintuitive, but it's one of those breakthroughs that can really turn toxic relationship patterns around. Today I'm excited to share a conversation with my good friend Angelika Alana, all about tuning into our bodies, our physical and emotional needs, and healing our connection to ourselves and others. Angelika is the founder and CEO of the Somatic Healing Institute. She has been featured in Vanity Fair, Well+Good, and Modern Luxury. This week, Patrick Drake, a product designer for Dealerware, an automotive tech company located in Austin, discusses how you can't separate UI from UX because they inherently enhance each other towards a product's overall goals. He discusses why demonstrating sound problem solving in your work and the ability to walk someone through your thought process is the most effective skill a designer can develop. Patrick shares his process for usability testing, downplaying biometric eye tracking in favor of fast, high-fidelity prototypes because you don't have to guess what someone is thinking after a biometrics test. We talk about using parallel work examples to get a job doing something new and how sending perfect work isn't as important as just showing some level of competency when starting out. Lastly Patrick compares the autonomy and depth within an in-house design role vs the fast turnaround of project based freelance work at a design agency - it's all about the iterative self-sustaining loop of finding and improving novel problems.SHOW NOTESDovetail - A User Research PlatformJohnathan Stark - Freelance Mentor Articulating Design Decisions, by Tom Greene

Rebroadcast: This week we sit down with Patrick, founder/CEO at HelloFresh. An all-around foodie, Patrick talks us through his road to success and the difficulties of bringing a new product to market. For those who haven’t tried it yet, HelloFresh is a meal kit service that brings portioned packages of food to your door with easy recipes to follow, and it’s actually the first meal kit service of its kind. Being the first of your kind in any sphere is tough, and Patrick really brings to light the process of educating the public about your product, which can be a real struggle when your product fills a need that people don’t yet realize they have. Patrick’s origin story is also quite interesting and pretty entertaining, as he started his career as a lawyer in a buttoned-up law firm. He would literally sneak out of his office to cook at various restaurants downtown and he basically kept up a double life until he resigned to be a full-time foodie. The Idea: In a world where instant gratification, fast food, and the quest for convenience dominate, we’re going to start a service where we box up some grocery store ingredients, deliver it to your door with a recipe card, and expect you to pay us for the privilege of prepping and cooking your own dinner. The Person is Patrick Drake, the co-founder of the #1 box meal service, Hello Fresh. Patrick is one of those founders that sets the bar for what every founder should embody. He had seemingly over-the-top visions grandeur and was willing to sacrifice and stick with it till everything he envisioned materialized. The Opportunities have literally been the creation and growth of the entire subscription box explosion. Brant Pinvidic interviews Hello Fresh co-founder Patrick Drake

Sneaking out during lunch breaks to help out the chefs at the City law firm where he worked, Patrick Drake was always destined for a career doing what he loves: cooking. As co-founder and Head Chef of the world's largest recipe box service, HelloFresh, that's exactly what happened. Speaking to Seedcamp partner Carlos Espinal, Patrick recalls his story of jettisoning a corporate career and founding HelloFresh - inspired by the vision of making it easier for people to eat tasty, nutritious food and learn how to cook new dishes for themselves and their families. He discusses lessons learnt in HelloFresh's early days ('handwriting little thank you notes to our first 10 customers who were basically our parents and our friends trying to humour us'), where live feedback was enormously important for iterating in product. Tune in to hear more on the HelloFresh journey from handing out fliers in Waterloo station through to IPO. Patrick Drake is the co-founder and head chef of the UK's number one food delivery service, Hello Fresh. Launched in 2012, HelloFresh allows customers to pick their favourite recipes from a weekly menu, to receive the fresh ingredients delivered to their door in the exact quantities. You’ve probably spotted Patrick in the Hello Fresh TV adverts, or on their YouTube channel, cooking up a storm. He is soon to front their forthcoming cookbook ‘Recipes That Work’ - the 100 Best Recipes from the past 6 years of Hello Fresh, tried and tested by their valued customers. It’s easy to see why P Dizzle was recently named one of the most influential people in London by the Evening Standard. He’s warm, charismatic and hugely knowledgable. What's more, the Hello Fresh Farm walls are adorned by photos of Patrick with Jamie Olivier. We talked for well over an hour and I've no doubt, there's even more ground to cover. I really hope you enjoy it. Follow Patrick: @PatrickDrakeChef @HelloFreshUK See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
