In today’s episode, I’m sitting down with Emily Wilson and we’re talking all about her brand new weekly devotional for women, how to find time for prayer in busy seasons of life, and her top piece of advice for all of us as we close out 2020 and embark on all the adventures that 2021 has in store. In a season where you are probably hearing about everyone else’s new years resolutions and maybe have thought about making some of your own, Emily and I are sharing the importance of small steps and creating healthy habits for your spiritual life that will last longer than the first few days of January. Because if you’re like me, you can think of many many failed new year’s resolutions that you’ve made in the past. I’ve long admired Emily’s heart for women and she’s a guest I’ve hoped to have on the show for years - but it’s taken that long to coordinate between books being written and babies being born for both of us, so it was a total joy and honor to sit down with her and learn more of her story. If you’re looking to this new year with hope, anticipation, and maybe a little bit of nervousness, sister, this letter is for you. Topics we talked about in this episode: Emily’s brand new weekly devotional and how she finds time for prayer as a mom of two little boys Why prayer should be a priority Why we’re so hard on ourselves as women and how we can recognize the truth that God sings over our lives How to give thanks for the friends you have The advice Emily would give women looking ahead to 2021 Resources you should check out after listening to this episode: Emily’s brand new book, “Awaken My Heart” Saint Pope John Paul II’s “Mulieris dignitatem” (On the Dignity and Vocation of Women) “The Lazy Genius Way” by Kendra Adachi The Hallow App Find Emily on Instagram and YouTube Use the code CHLOE when you purchase gorgeous Catholic homemade accessories from Pink Salt Riot and save 10% off your next order! In this episode, we continue our annual tradition of the word of the year! Each year we each ask God to give us a theme to focus on for the new year and invite you to do the same. After personal prayer and reflection, we share our word for 2021 and how God has led us on a journey from year to year. After a difficult 2020, we discuss the importance of hope, not in a thing, but in the Person of Jesus. We chat about how sometimes a new yes to the Holy Spirit requires saying no to something else, to make room in our lives for something new that God is doing. We encourage you to pray, reflect and ask the Lord to reveal to you a new word of hope and renewal for this new year! Sister Miriam’s one thing - The new year! Heather’s one thing - Sunday dinners with her family Michelle’s one thing - Rooted Skincare - Brooke Summers Michelle’s other one thing - The One Who Gave Myrrh - Kate Capato and Visual Grace Discussion questions: What struck you from this week’s episode? What is your word for the year? How do you want this word to allow God’s grace to take root in you this year? How do you want this word to allow God’s grace to bear fruit in you this year? What do you need to say no to or release - old mindsets, agreements or beliefs about yourself or God - so you can fully receive what God has for you in this new word? Discuss how your group can share your words and keep interceding for one another throughout this year. Journal Questions: In the midst of the difficult things that happened in 2020, take some time to reflect on how God worked in your life in the past year. Identify a couple of key moments in your spiritual journey and write down your hopes for the new year. Ask the Holy Spirit to reveal a new word for you in this new year. Are there any specific themes, images, songs, or scriptures that have been standing out to you recently? Once you hear a word, remember that it’s okay to wait with an open heart for God to confirm this new word for you. Look at your word of the year - does this word help create conditions conducive for the spiritual growth God desires for you? Is there anything that you may need to pause or say no to, so you can say yes to God fully in this season? Quotes to Ponder: “A new beginning! We must learn to live each day, each hour, yes, each minute as a new beginning, as a unique opportunity to make everything new. Imagine that we could live each moment as a moment pregnant with new life. Imagine that we could live each day as a day full of promises. Imagine that we could walk through the new year always listening to a voice saying to us: “I have a gift for you and can’t wait for you to see it! Imagine!” — Henri Nouwen, You Are the Beloved: Daily Meditations for Spiritual Living Scripture for Lectio Divina - “You crown the year with your bounty, and your carts overflow with abundance” - Psalm 65:11 This episode is sponsored by Pink Salt Riot.
