In this conversation, Miles talks all things Elections Twitter, goes into his personal connections to two prominent US Senators, talks through the several years he spent at the FBI, and puts on his pundit hat to give his take on the 2022 cycle.(Please consider leaving a rating and review in your podcast app) IN THIS EPISODE… What does Miles have in common with Chris Christie? The first candidate Miles' waved signs for…The story of Miles first political maps…Miles connection to Senator Kay Hagan…Miles Coleman…at the FBI?Miles story of being around James Comey…Miles trip to New Hampshire as an exit pollster…How does Miles get to the UVA's Center for Politics…Miles best practices for “race ratings”…Miles DMs with Senator Claire McCaskill…Miles talks the origin of “Election Twitter”…Miles cliffs notes tutorial on what goes into election mapping…Miles early thoughts on the 2022 cycle… AND…Hale Boggs, the Crystal Ball, Dave's Redistricting App, DDHQ, Elizabeth Dole, Jeff Flake, the IC, the J Edgar Hoover Building, Ron Johnson, Doug Jones, Brian Kemp, Krispy Kreme donuts, Kyle Kondik, Earl Long, minimizing toss ups, Roy Moore, Ray Nagin, Barack Obama, Larry Sabato, Kyrsten Sinema, Chris Sununu, Donald Trump, Ann Wagner, and MORE!(Please consider leaving a rating and review in your podcast app)

400. Part 1 of our interview with Timothy Bartel about Evangeline. Henry Wadsworth Longfellow's Evangeline was a bestseller in nineteenth-century America, inspiring generations of readers with a heroine who overcomes colonial violence and exile in her romantic and spiritual quest across America. Long ignored by modernist scholars, Evangeline is finally getting the critical attention it deserves. Drawing on original research in Longfellow's scholarly manuscripts, Bartel explores the theological sources and spiritual world of Evangeline, arguing that Longfellow was inspired by the church fathers to craft Evangeline into a heroine who uniquely exemplifies, in her epic quest, the ancient Christian doctrines of deification and divine light. Bartel's Glimpses of Her Father's Glory returns Evangeline to its rightful place as a major poem of American literature, one that takes as its theme nothing less than the ultimate purpose of human existence. Dr. Bartel holds a PhD in Divinity from the University of St. Andrews and a Master of Fine Arts in Poetry from Seattle Pacific University. He is one of the founding faculty members of The College at The Saint Constantine School, helping shape the writing and literature curriculum. This week in Louisiana history. January 16, 1962. The "Chocolate City Speech" is the nickname that some have given to the Martin Luther King Jr. Day speech by Mayor Ray Nagin on January 16, 2006, several months after Hurricane Katrina. Prior to Nagin's speech, some commentators were suggesting that the city's demographics would change from majority African American to majority Caucasian based on George Bush's efforts to ethnically cleanse the city. In an interview with Public Radio International's Tavis Smiley (originally broadcast on January 13, 2006) Nagin used the phrase "chocolate city" in reference to New Orleans' future demographics. One of our "Listeners" wants to know if we think the U.S. is ready for a biological attack. Kunta thinks that it is very possible that Corona is biological. we both agree that we are ridiculously unprepared for a biological attack. Meanwhile the leader of our country refuses to call the Governors because they aren't nice. They won't give his administration the credit they deserve. One thing that must happen is that the leaders need to have some sort of open dialogue. At least he is now considering closing the state borders. My wife just wants to know how she will get avocados. New Orleans Mayors have history of blaming others when they make bad decisions (remember Ray Nagin?). Recently, N.O. mayor blames trump for Louisiana becoming the new hot spot for COVID. The Context of White Supremacy hosts the twelfth and final study session on Gary Rivlin's Katrina: After The Flood. Mr. Rivlin is a White man and former New York Times journalist; he was lodged on a plantation while he investigated the cataclysmic engineering failure and negligence that destroyed New Orleans in August of 2005. His 2015 bestseller details a decade of asymmetrical "recovery." To make it plain, ten years of black New Orleanians being racially dislocated and deliberately deterred from resurrecting their lives. Rivlin reviews all areas of people activity: the institution of charter schools, the demolition of public housing, and the looting of funds designated for flood victims. Last week's installment documented the beginning of the end for Ray Nagin, as Whites initiated their case for criminal charges against him. Current White Mayor Mitch Landrieu deceptively declared that rebuilding New Orleans was about White and non-white citizens working in unison for the greater good. He covered his bases by rallying black citizens to defend him against accusations of a White man bogarting power in a majority black city. Former "recovery czar" Ed Blakely made it plain once he resigned his post and left Louisiana: "[Whites] can recapture the political apparatus and kind of put their foot back on black peopleâ??s throats.â?? We hope this text will offer a more complete understanding of Hurricane Katrina and it's aftermath as a meticulously planned campaign of genocide against black New Orleanians. The Context of White Supremacy hosts the 8th study session on Gary Rivlin's Katrina: After The Flood. Mr. Rivlin is a White man; while working for the New York Times he reported on the catastrophic engineering failure and negligence that destroyed New Orleans in August of 2005. His 2015 bestseller unpacks a decade of asymmetrical "recovery." To be frank, ten years of black New Orleanians being racially dislocated and purposely impeded from rebuilding their lives. Rivlin examines all areas of people activity: the institution of charter schools, the destruction of public housing, and the looting of funds designated for flood victims. Last week's session revealed the pitiful condition of the city 8 months after the storm. Many black residential areas remained deserted, without electricity, water or even traffic lights. Hoards of Whites hoped to exploit the depoluated town by thwarting Ray Nagin's bid for re-election. Ron Foreman, Jimmy Reiss, Boyse Bollinger, Ashton Phelps and other Whites who bankrolled Nagin's path to city hall, now worked to toss him out with Katrina's debris. We hope this text will offer a more complete understanding of Hurricane Katrina and it's aftermath as a meticulously planned campaign of genocide against black New Orleanians. #AnswersForMiriamCarey INVEST in The COWS - http://tiny.cc/ledjb CALL IN NUMBER: 641.715.3640 CODE: 564943# The C.O.W.S. archives: http://tiny.cc/76f6p
Anitra Brown visits The Context of White Supremacy. Ms. Brown is the managing editor for The New Orleans Tribune - an Independent black news publication with nearly a 150 year legacy in southern Louisiana. Ms. Brown has invested more than a decade of service at the Tribune and continues "to offer its readers news and information from a perspective not heard in the cityâ??s mainstream media." World attention is now receding from the Crescent City as the Hurricane Katrina festivities and shindigs have mostly concluded. We'll get Ms. Brown's views on the methodical destruction of public housing and how the misery and dislocation impacted New Orleans' black children. We'll review Gary Rivlin's bestselling book, Katrina: After The Flood, and comment on former mayor and current federal inmate Ray Nagin.
