Mobility is a popular topic in fitness at the moment but what happens when a person has too much mobility? Hypermobility spectrum disorder and Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome or EDS are connective tissue disorders where the person's joints are looser than they should be. This creates joint instability that can lead to pain, frequent sprains and strains or joint dislocations. The goal of movement training for these clients focuses on stability, increasing body awareness and developing postural endurance to train the muscles to support the joints. If you or your clients have hypermobility, this episode will provide guidelines for successfully managing the condition. Moving Conversations LIVE in Southern California! If you work with clients with complex conditions including chronic pain, fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue or long covid, you know progress can be slow and erratic. In this episode Brian presents a case study focusing on a client with multiple conditions and we discuss how to create trust, enhance the client's mind/body connection and stay focused on the client. If you have clients where a straightforward program of mobility, strength and endurance is not working, check this session out for advice on accessing the parasympathetic nervous system to help complex clients make progress. Fractures, bone spurs and malformations all affect how our body moves and influences alignment, joint structure and myofascial balance. Starting with fractures, we discuss how breaks heal, what happens when hardware is used to repair a fracture and how fractures can affect growth patterns in children and adolescents. Fractures can influence leg length, strength and mobility whether they are recent or in the distant past and as movement educators, we often see the results of a fracture long after the bone has healed. We'll also discuss bone spurs and malformations of the vertebrae as less common but more complicated, boney problems.Moving Conversation Socials Brian's Book on Low Back Pain and Conditions: Back Exercise; Stabilize, Mobilize and Reduce Pain https://a.co/d/8IUb7L6 Email: movingconvos@gmail.com IG: @movingconvos FB: Moving Conversations Brian IG: @fit4lifedc FB: https://www.facebook.com/brianrichey/ Nora IG: nora.s.john.7 FB: https://www.facebook.com/nora.s.john.7

Working with a client with osteoporosis and managing their expectations can be challenging as a Pilates instructor or personal trainer. Client's are often not given much guidance by their medical professional and are left on their own to figure out if their current workout routine is helpful or potentially dangerous. Our job is to keep them safe while doing our best to slow, halt or reverse their condition. In this episode we discuss strategies for minimizing risky moves like loaded flexion while working to improve posture, strength and bone density. We hope this conversation provides a starting point for better program design for your clients with osteoporosis.Moving Conversation Socials Brian's Book on Low Back Pain and Conditions: Back Exercise; Stabilize, Mobilize and Reduce Pain https://a.co/d/8IUb7L6 Email: movingconvos@gmail.com IG: @movingconvos FB: Moving Conversations Brian IG: @fit4lifedc FB: https://www.facebook.com/brianrichey/ Nora IG: nora.s.john.7 FB: https://www.facebook.com/nora.s.john.7

Many people with low back pain limit their movement in various ways to decrease pain and the likelihood of reinjury. We have spent several episodes on training neutral spine, understanding dynamic lumbopelvic control and enhancing client awareness. All of these are foundational skills to minimize pain and help the client make progress. Once these skills are mastered, it is essential to keep progressing toward a full return to activity. Increasing range of motion, increasing load, improving postural endurance, mastering rotation and integrating the lower back into the rest of the body are key. Is healing pain really as complex as it's often made out to be? While the current drumbeat in the rehabilitation world is that pain is complex, that statement often leads to a lot of resignation for many professionals, which trickles down to clients. Yes, there are layers and work to do, but is it actually complex? I don't think so. When I help someone sense into themselves and into their own rhythm, remarkable change is possible. With low back pain the first step is to create awareness of where the low back is and what position is most comfortable. The next step is to teach stability in the preferred position to support a pain free (or less painful) position in everyday life. Once stability and awareness are in place, assessing and training mobility of the spine, pelvis and hips is essential to integrate the low back into functional movement. In this episode, Brian and Nora discuss mobility strategies and exercises for low back pain.Moving Conversation Socials Brian's Book on Low Back Pain and Conditions: Back Exercise; Stabilize, Mobilize and Reduce Pain https://a.co/d/8IUb7L6 Youtube: www.youtube.com/@brianrichey Email: movingconvos@gmail.com IG: @movingconvos FB: Moving Conversations Brian IG: @fit4lifedc FB: https://www.facebook.com/brianrichey/ Nora IG: nora.s.john.7 FB: https://www.facebook.com/nora.s.john.7

Today, I'm talking about imposter syndrome and the bundle of thoughts and beliefs that come with it, hindering your ability to sell yourself in a calm, steady manner. Fear and doubt are the biggest culprits—pushing you into a sympathetic fight-or-flight response when leaving your comfort zone. Listen in as I share actions you can take outside of my program to support the sales process and move forward with a down-regulated nervous system. This includes simple steps, such as practicing non-sales conversations and engaging with others to build connections. In the next part of my mini-series, Safety in Selling, I'm speaking with two previous guests of the From Pain to Possibility podcast, Nona Jordan and Karin Rossi—current members of my certification final module. And you guessed it: we're talking about getting comfortable with selling. As both Nona and Karin share, increasing and refining your technical skills is always the first step in the sales process. We're also exploring how my concept of pain-free range of motion can be applied to selling. The idea is to start small and take incremental steps to offer your services to more patients. Today's episode is especially powerful because it includes a special guest: Lory Newmyer. She's here to share her experience in selling—and doing so by calming her nervous system. We begin our conversation by discussing Lory's unique background and her decision (and discomfort) in transitioning from a free yoga teacher to a paid yoga therapist. Lory shares how she shifted her mindset from selling a product to providing others an opportunity to invest in their well-being. Tune in to hear Lory open up about her ability to calm her nervous system—a skill she learned as a teacher—and how she has used that state to sell herself comfortably.
