Despite being around for nearly 100 years, pilates has never been so popular.  As previously reported by Glossy, search volume for “pilates” was at an all-time high in January 2004, with small yearly spikes each January since. It wasn't until 2022 that search numbers topped those 2004 numbers before hitting an all-time in January 2023 and then again in January of 2024.  However, searches have already topped 2024 numbers during the first week of the new year, according to Google Trends. The highest search numbers are coming from Australia, Singapore, New Zealand and the U.K. The U.S. ranks ninth for searches so far this year.  Pilates is a low-impact strength and mobility training practice designed by Joseph Pilates in 1920s Europe to rehab injured WWI veterans. He developed its tenets on a machine crafted from bed springs and wooden boards, which later inspired the "reformer," a machine with straps and springs that's been evolved many times over for pilates practices today. Pilates is also taught on a yoga mat using hand weights, stretchy bands and other props.  Partially fueled by celebrity devotees like Hailey Bieber and Kendall Jenner, and propelled by viral fashion trends like 2024's #PinkPilatesPrincess, the exercise modality shows no signs of slowing in 2025.  It's something that Australia-based Emma Stallworthy is betting on with 4-year-old pilates rental and digital class subscription company Your Reformer. The company is well-known in Australia and New Zealand markets and, as of September, has officially expanded to the U.S. with its signature $39-per-week in-home reformer bed rentals. They come with more than 800 high-quality training videos on a corresponding app. The company also sells its reformer beds to consumers as well as studios, gyms and hotels. Your Reformer is fully bootstrapped by Stallworthy and her husband and co-founder Ben. The duo started as gym owners in Melbourne. After renting out their gyms' reformer beds during the pandemic, thy sold their gyms and doubled down on this new business. Emma is also a pilates instructor. The company has nearly no competition for reformer rentals. Leaders in the space selling or financing equipment include Stott Pilates, Balanced Body and Merrithew. Your Reformer beds sell for around $2,500, while the reformer bed prices of the aforementioned manufacturers start at around $5,000. Outside of the rentals, the company's reformer sales and corresponding digital classes mak up a unique business model that is best compared to Peloton stationary bikes. Peloton gained massive popularity during the pandemic but later experienced financial distress that led to cuts and the replacement of its CEO in 2024, as reported by CFO Drive.  Stallworthy joined the Glossy Beauty Podcast to discuss the company's growth and expansion to the U.S. in September, the secret sauce behind growing its digital class subscriptions, its beauty and wellness partnerships, and the overall rise of autonomous pilates classes.

This is the story of how Adriana Lee became a Yoga Teacher. Adriana Lee is a Las Vegas native and a highly experienced yoga teacher and trainer. She is passionate about using yoga as a tool for self-discovery and empowerment, helping her students to reconnect with their bodies through breath and movement. Adriana has developed a reputation for breaking down complex yoga concepts and poses into more digestible and accessible parts for her students. Her teaching style is grounded in anatomy and biomechanics, which helps her students leave each class feeling refreshed, empowered, and more connected to their bodies. Adriana's journey with yoga started when she was very young, and it wasn't until much later that she realized the profound impact that it had on her life. She credits yoga with helping her heal from past traumas, body dysmorphia, and other issues. Yoga became her safe space where she learned to be strong, resilient, and how to navigate her emotions in a healthy way. Her own transformation through yoga inspired her to become a teacher, with the intention of sharing the magic of movement and the bliss of being with others. Adriana has a wealth of certifications and training, including a 300 Hour YTT from HIBS Yoga in Las Vegas, a 200 Hour YTT from Frog Lotus Yoga in Suryalila, Spain, a 50 Hour Advanced Yoga Training CEUs from Heba Saab Yoga School, a 50 Hour Budokon Yoga Teacher Training in Miami, FL, and a Reiki Master certification. In episode 33, Sarah Alysse Rosner shares how she bounces back from starting adulthood already burned out. Burnout stemmed from unrealistic expectations she put on herself, which started from her early days in theater. Sarah set herself up to recover by feeding her mind and body affirmations and intentions. In the corporate world, she discovered that people were craving connection and that a lot of burnout comes from a place of isolation and need of physical exercise. Sarah focuses on stress management, movement, and nutrition to help others find their way out of burnout. Physical health can be an indicator of emotional and mental health. It s important to listen to the cues your body gives you to prevent burnout. Sarah stresses the importance of recognizing what constant hunger or a state of not being hungry or craving unhealthy foods and what those symptoms might indicate about your mental health. Movement is the other large piece of her strategy. Whether it s a walk in the park or climbing the stairs or yoga or pilates or biking, moving for just a few minutes a few times a day stimulates the body and brain to a healthier place. Sarah also emphasizes taking a break a few times a day. Get away from screens, play with kids, watch the dog play, or do something creative, but do it with intentionality and without interruption. Sarah Alysse Rosner is a corporate stress management coach that helps companies cultivate a low-stress environment so that their employees can be happier and more productive. She s the creator and CEO of Live Well Enhance You LLC which formed out of a need for her Pilates clients to find balance in their lives. She branched into the corporate market to assist employees in creating out-of-the-box solutions. We've often talked about the influence of dance in Pilates, but the influence of bodybuilding is also important - in fact, it's so pervasive it's invisible. Many of the things we take for granted in Pilates in fact are just bodybuilding conventions, not facts of exercise science, and they certainly weren't part of Joseph Pilates' original vision. Things like: Isolating muscles Thinking about aesthetics as the primary goal of exercise Working to fatigue and seeking the burn Overcomplicating our programming Are all bodybuilding practices, not laws of physics. Many people in the Pilates world, and in the movement world, in general, believe you should charge a “fair” price for your services, and that making too much money is a sign you're doing something morally reprehensible, and that those ill-gotten profits must come at the expense of your poor clients. Quite the reverse is true in Dan's case and, we argue, in just about all cases. Making lots of profit is not mutually exclusive with profoundly helping people. You can do both. Karol Tamayo. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/elpodcastdepilates4k/message

Jean Campbell has developed an intriguing business model for her yoga business that is easily applicable for a Pilates business. Jean's model, which she spent the last 2 decades perfecting, is for people who don't want to have a studio with employees, and who are entrepreneurial, or more accurately solo-preneurial. This low-cost solo business model will enable you to make VERY good money with almost no overhead or setup cost, and you can set your own hours; as few or as many as you want. Even better, Jean has developed versions of the model for both online and brick-n-mortar businesses. Raph asked Jean on the show to share her exact process, so you can copy her model and build your own highly profitable solo business, starting right now. In this week's episode of Form, Function, and Flow Lab, I interviewed Dr. Amanda Olson, the president and chief clinical officer of Intimate Rose. She is passionate about empowering women and men with pelvic health issues. However, while I was interviewing her through Zoom, the application wasn't able to record the whole thing. I tried my best to go over all her products through Intimate Rose and that's what I wanted to share with you today. I hope to have my interview with her soon as she was very eloquent when she discussed pelvis health issues and Intimate Rose's products that's why I really want you to hear it from her first hand. For now, this podcast will be about product reviews for Intimate Rose.Episode Highlights: [0:36] Introduction to the topic [1:46] Pelvic Wands [6:23] Dilators [12:03] Kegel Weights [16:26] Other types of the Pelvic Wands [19:00] Using lubricants for these products [21:05] Conclusion Dr. Olson earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Pacific University, and a Doctorate of Physical Therapy from Regis University, graduating as a member of the Jesuit National Honor Society. She holds a Certification of Achievement in pelvic floor physical therapy (CAPP-PF) through the American Physical Therapy Association, and the Pelvic Floor Practitioner Certification (PRPC) through the Herman and Wallace Pelvic Institute. She is also a certified Stott Pilates instructor and RRCA certified running coach. Dr. Olson teaches internationally on various pelvic health topics including pelvic floor dysfunction in runners. She has written several physical therapy continuing education courses, newspaper and magazine articles on pelvic floor dysfunction, and running, and authored the book Restoring the Pelvic Floor For Women. You can check out Intimate Rose's website here. If you have any questions, you can drop it in the comment section or you send me a message through Facebook or Instagram. I'd be happy to do another podcast about your questions. Also, if you want me to talk about something specific, let me know!
