The red light therapy market is full of junk science and real breakthroughs. Recharge Health CEO Bjorn Ekeberg is here to separate scams from the science.Full show notes and resources can be found here: jordanharbinger.com/1298What We Discuss with Bjorn Ekeberg:Red light therapy has real, evidence-backed benefits — particularly for musculoskeletal pain, inflammation, and recovery — but the market is flooded with junk products like LED toothbrushes and shower heads that can't deliver a meaningful dose, threatening to discredit the legitimate science behind it.The real power of light therapy lies in near-infrared wavelengths — not just visible red light. Red light works on the skin's surface, but near-infrared penetrates deeper into tissue, stimulating mitochondrial function and improving cellular efficiency — which is why the distinction matters more than most people realize.NASA research in the early 2000s showed that without exposure to red and near-infrared light, astronauts' healing processes slowed dramatically — confirming that our bodies depend on these wavelengths the way plants depend on sunlight, a connection modern indoor life has severed. The biohacking and wellness industry moves faster than the evidence, creating a cycle where legitimate therapies get buried under wild marketing claims — from hair regrowth caps to fat-melting irons — which trains consumers to dismiss everything as snake oil.Consistency and correct dosing are the keys to real results with red light therapy — whether for pain, gut health, or even deep sleep improvement — so start with a targeted protocol, track your progress, and treat it like any other health habit that compounds over time. And much more...And if you're still game to support us, please leave a review here — even one sentence helps! This week, Emily and Perry shine a light on red light therapy: its origins, its heroic use of the mighty mitochondria, and the supposed countless benefits (better mood, wound healing, facial rejuvenation, hair regrowth?) of sitting in front of a hot red light that may or may not even be able to penetrate your skin. Plus: the disturbing return of polio, whether multivitamins have an effect on epigenetic aging, and if the pitch clock, while modestly good for Emily's enjoyment of baseball, is ruining pitchers' elbows. What do elite athletes do differently when it comes to fat loss? In this episode, Vanessa breaks down the most surprising takeaways from her conversation with sports dietitian Emily Mitchell, who has worked with professional teams including UCLA Athletics, the LA Galaxy, the Clippers, and the Buccaneers. While many people think getting lean requires constant dieting, eliminating carbohydrates, and pushing through hunger, elite athletes often take a completely different approach. Vanessa explores six of the most powerful fat loss strategies used by elite performers — including why many athletes don't diet during their competitive season, why protein intake is far higher than most people realize, and how strategic carbohydrate timing can actually support fat loss and performance.
Thousands of studies back red light therapy, yet most devices on the market are completely ineffective and don't do a thing for your body. Today, I'm joined by Ari Whitten to break down how red and near-infrared light actually interacts with your cells and why it matters for everything from wrinkles to stubborn body fat. Ari explains the science behind photobiomodulation, how specific wavelengths penetrate deep into tissue to trigger repair, stimulate collagen production, and mobilize stem cells throughout your entire body. He discusses the critical differences between superficial and deep tissue treatments, why irradiance and LED density are the two specs most companies lie about, and how to tell if a red light device is worth your money. We also get into the story behind red light and fat loss. Ari shares his thoughts on whether it works for stubborn areas like the love handles and thighs, and what has to be true in your lifestyle for red light to make a difference. Red light therapy is everywhere right now — from skincare devices to sauna rooms to $20 bulbs online. But not all “red light” is created equal. In this episode of Alpha Health and Wellness Radio, I'm breaking down the real science behind:Red LED lightNear-infrared (NIR) lightIncandescent red heat bulbsBecause they are not the same thing — and they do very different things in the body.If you've been wondering whether you need a panel, if a sauna bulb is enough, or which wavelengths actually matter for hormones, skin, recovery, or thyroid health — this episode will clear it up.Red light (630–660 nm)Best for skin, collagen, acne, surface-level healing.Near-infrared (810–880 nm)Penetrates deeper — ideal for joints, muscle recovery, brain health, thyroid, and systemic inflammation.Incandescent red bulbsPrimarily provide heat and circulation benefits — not precise mitochondrial stimulation. If you're going to invest, combining red + near-infrared wavelengths gives you both surface and deep tissue benefits.Red light devices I likeBoncharge (panel and face mask, red light lamp/bulbs code drhalie) Biolight (code drhalie) Fringe (red/blue mask, wraps code drhalie10)Lumebox mini panelHigher Dose blanket My red light protocol

Laser vs Red Light Therapy: What's Real, What's Marketing, and What Actually Works | Conversations with a Chiropractor Episode Description In this solo episode of Conversations with a Chiropractor, Dr. Stephanie Wautier tackles a question she's hearing everywhere right now: "Are those at-home red light masks basically the same as laser?" A casual moment at the eye doctor turns into a clear breakdown of what's happening in the marketplace, where marketing claims are loud and the science is usually missing. Stephanie explains the core difference in plain language. Most at-home "red light" devices are LED, meaning the light is non-coherent and scatters like a flashlight. A low-level laser is coherent, tightly focused, and built to deliver targeted energy with low beam divergence. That distinction matters because it impacts depth, precision, and what the device can realistically accomplish. From there, she walks through laser classes, safety, and why not all lasers are the same. She also shares why she trusts Erchonia's approach, their research-backed model, and how different wavelengths (red, green, violet) have different biological effects. The big takeaway is simple: not everything that glows red is "laser," and not every claim deserves your money. She also highlights an important caution: even "gentle" photobiomodulation tools can be contraindicated for active cancer, because the same energy that supports cellular activity can be a problem in the wrong context. If you've been flooded with social media promises about the "fountain of youth" in a $75 mask, this episode will help you shop smarter, ask better questions, and understand what you're actually buying.
PainExam Podcast Show Notes Red Light Therapy (Photobiomodulation) for Pain Evidence, Mechanisms, and Clinical Applications Host: Dr. David Rosenblum Red light therapy, also known as photobiomodulation (PBM) or low-level laser therapy (LLLT), is an emerging non-invasive treatment modality increasingly used in pain medicine, rehabilitation, and regenerative medicine practices. In this episode of the PainExam Podcast, Dr. Rosenblum reviews the mechanisms, clinical evidence, indications, and safety considerations surrounding photobiomodulation therapy for pain. Red and near-infrared wavelengths stimulate mitochondrial activity, increase ATP production, reduce inflammatory mediators, and promote tissue healing. These physiologic effects may translate into analgesic benefits for a variety of musculoskeletal and neuropathic pain conditions. Clinical research suggests potential benefit in temporomandibular disorders, chronic neck pain, and inflammatory oral conditions, though results vary due to differences in dosing parameters and treatment protocols. Despite these limitations, PBM has a favorable safety profile and is increasingly being integrated into multimodal pain management strategies. Key Topics Covered • What is photobiomodulation therapy (PBM) • How red and near-infrared light interact with mitochondria • Mechanisms of analgesia and tissue repair • Evidence from clinical trials in TMD, neck pain, and oral inflammatory pain • The biphasic dose response (Arndt-Schulz law) • Safety profile and contraindications • How PBM may integrate with regenerative pain medicine Mechanism of Action Photobiomodulation works primarily through stimulation of mitochondrial chromophores, particularly cytochrome c oxidase. This leads to: • Increased ATP production • Modulation of inflammatory cytokines • Increased angiogenesis and tissue repair • Reduced oxidative stress These effects may improve pain, inflammation, and healing in certain musculoskeletal conditions. Evidence Discussed in This Episode Temporomandibular Disorders Randomized trial demonstrating improvements in pain and mandibular function with red light therapy. De Carvalho et al., Pain Research and Treatment (2019) https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10.1155/2019/8578703 Chronic Neck Pain Clinical trial demonstrating improvements in pain scores and pressure pain thresholds after photobiomodulation therapy. Red light therapy may be considered as an adjunct treatment for: • myofascial pain • cervical spine pain • temporomandibular disorder • tendinopathy • peripheral neuropathy • musculoskeletal injury recovery Safety and Contraindications Photobiomodulation has a very favorable safety profile. Reported adverse effects are rare and usually mild: • transient erythema • warmth at treatment site • headache • eye irritation without proper protection Precautions include: • avoiding direct retinal exposure • avoiding treatment over malignancy • avoiding application over the uterus during pregnancy • caution in photosensitive disorders Resources For Patients Seeking Treatment Learn more about integrative and regenerative pain treatments including PRP, ultrasound-guided injections, and advanced pain therapies: AABP Integrative Pain Care & Wellness https://www.AABPpain.com For Pain Physicians and Advanced Practice Providers Training in ultrasound, interventional pain procedures, and pain board preparation: NRAP Academy CME Education https://www.NRAPpain.org

“There's such an incredible need for supporting women in this very intimate way.” - Dr. Genevieve NewtonRed light therapy has become a hot topic in wellness conversations, yet for many clinicians, it still feels unclear where it truly fits. Is it a gimmick, a biohacking trend, or a meaningful therapeutic tool? As practitioners, we have to be careful. Our clients don't need another gadget. We need to understand mechanisms, dosing, safety, and how to integrate a tool into a comprehensive, evidence-informed plan of care. What makes light therapy compelling in women's health is that by supporting mitochondrial function, circulation, collagen synthesis, nerve sensitivity, and tissue regeneration, red and near-infrared light offer a cellular-level intervention that complements the musculoskeletal, hormonal, and nervous system work we're already doing. When used thoughtfully, it can support both short-term symptom relief, like improved lubrication and reduced pain, and longer-term structural changes in tissue integrity and resilience.Today, I'm joined by Liz Frey and Dr. Genevieve Newton of Fringe. At Fringe, they've long championed the healing power of light. Their range of targeted red light therapy products has helped thousands of people address localized pain, inflammation, and skin concerns, and they continue to expand the possibilities of what red and near-infrared light can do. In this episode, Liz, Genevieve, and I explore the science of red, near-infrared, and blue light, how different wavelengths and intensities affect tissue, what research shows for pelvic health conditions and fertility, dosing and contraindications, how to integrate light therapy into your practice, and more.Enjoy the episode, and let's innovate and integrate together!---Learn more or watch the video version of this conversation at https://integrativewomenshealthinstitute.com/using-red-light-therapy-and-vibration-therapy-in-perimenopause-and-menopause-with-fringe/.Connect with me and access our entire platform at IntegrativeWomensHealthInstitute.com (https://integrativewomenshealthinstitute.com/).Find and follow us @integrativewomenshealth on YouTube (https://www.youtube.com/@integrativewomenshealth) and Instagram (https://www.instagram.com/integrativewomenshealth/).

Most people think of a knee injury as a knee problem. You tear something, you rehab it, you move on. But the science tells a very different story — one where a single traumatic injury quietly drives cartilage degradation, cardiovascular impairment, and systemic inflammation for decades after the initial damage has "healed." I got a firsthand look at this when an MRI revealed two meniscus tears, a split MCL, and early-onset osteoarthritis in my left knee. That last one was humbling. I always assumed osteoarthritis happened to other people — older, less active people. Not someone who squats heavy and trains consistently. In this episode, Forrest Smith — CEO and Co-founder of Kineon Labs, a health technology company specializing in targeted red light and laser therapy devices — returns for his third appearance on the podcast. And the picture he paints of what happens inside an injured joint long after the rehab is over is sobering. For example, the NFL tracked over 3,500 players who'd returned to competition after knee injuries and found chronic inflammation still present 10 to 20 years later, despite world-class rehab. Notably, the quads on the players' injured side ran one to two degrees colder, a sign of impaired cardiovascular delivery. And the risk of major cardiovascular events jumped by 50% – not because of the original injury, but because of inflammation that never resolved. That's the cycle most people don't know they're stuck in. And it's where laser-based photobiomodulation changes the equation. Targeted 808nm lasers can drop inflammatory markers like TNF-alpha and IL-6 by 70 to 85% within days. Once that chronic degradation slows down, chondroblasts — the fast-growing front end of cartilage — can actually proliferate and begin rebuilding the extracellular matrix. Slow the destruction on one side, accelerate the biology on the other. That's what "regrowing cartilage" actually means. Penetration depth is what makes lasers fundamentally different from LEDs. At five to seven centimeters of reach, you're dosing 10 to 100 times more tissue volume than a surface-level panel can touch. Then there's the other side of this that almost nobody talks about: the ibuprofen your doctor hands you after surgery. Research shows that 90 days of use increases heart attack risk by 48%, heart failure by 35%, and major coronary events by 75% — while actively impairing the collagen and fibroblast function your body needs to heal. It's doing the exact opposite of what most people assume. If you've ever dealt with a joint injury, chronic inflammation, or just assumed over-the-counter painkillers were harmless, this one's worth your time. About Forrest Smith: Co-Founder and CEO of Kineon, a health-tech leader who spent 18 years in China building hardware startups and mastering the local supply chain. Angela talks to Ari Whitten, the founder of The Energy Blueprint and an expert in mitochondrial health about his comprehensive approach to overcoming fatigue and optimising energy levels by addressing the cellular engines of the body—the mitochondria. Ari explains how modern lifestyle factors, such as poor light exposure, chronic stress, and nutritional deficiencies, signal the mitochondria to enter a defence mode rather than an energy-producing mode WHAT YOU'LL LEARN: The Cell Danger Response (CDR): Mitochondria have a dual role; they are not just energy producers but also environmental sensors that shift into a defensive state when they perceive threats Circadian Rhythm and Light: Proper exposure to natural light in the morning and minimising artificial blue light at night is critical for regulating the mitochondrial clock and ensuring deep, restorative sleep. Hormetic Stress: Introducing controlled stressors—such as high-intensity exercise, cold exposure, or heat—can actually strengthen mitochondria and increase their capacity to produce energy The Importance of Nutrient Density: Specific nutrients, including CoQ10, magnesium, and polyphenols, are essential "fuel" for the electron transport chain TIMESTAMPS [00:04:15] The "Energy Gap" [00:18:30] Mitochondria as Sensors [00:32:45] The Power of Red Light Therapy [00:52:10] Building Metabolic Flexibility VALUABLE RESOURCES Join The High Performance Health Community Click here for discounts on all the products I personally use and recommend A BIG thank you to our sponsors who make the show possible The Ultimate Guide to Red Light Therapy Find out your biological age and how your daily habits are influencing it with DNA, bloodwork and microbiome testing with a Stride One membership - visit https://www.getstride.com/angela/ for 10% off. On the other hand, if you are interested in general anti-aging health longevity... The bigger concern is actually the total dose of light delivered to your overall body.” “A lot of the focus is on the intensity of the light… But the other thing is: how big of a surface area is that intensity of light hitting? What is the total amount of light delivered to the tissue? That's going to hugely impact those systemic effects like the release of stem cells into your circulation.” RESOURCES MENTIONED Order Ari's book: The Ultimate Guide to Red Light Therapy on Amazon https://theenergyblueprint.com/ https://www.amazon.com/Ultimate-Guide-Light-Therapy-Revised/ The Energy Blueprint Website The Energy Blueprint Podcast RELATED EPISODES 623: RED LIGHT THERAPY FOR UPGRADING YOUR MITOCHONDRIA, CELLULAR ENERGY, SKIN AND BRAIN HEALTH WITH JONATHAN OTTO 693: TIRED ALL THE TIME? Start of Arny Ferrando's episode recap is at 14:00 minutes. In today's Friday solocast, Vanessa Spina recaps her recent interview with Arny Ferrando, one of the world's leading experts on human muscle protein metabolism — and explains why fat loss problems are often muscle problems in disguise. The episode opens with two brand-new studies that challenge common fat-loss assumptions, including new findings on hydration and body fat loss, and surprising research linking resistance training with intelligence and cognitive performance. From there, Vanessa distills the most important insights from her conversation with Dr. Ferrando, including why simply eating less often backfires, how aging and hormonal changes impair muscle metabolism, and what most people misunderstand about protein needs, circulation, and metabolic slowdown.

Leveling Up: Creating Everything From Nothing with Natalie Jill
Get Ari Whitten's Book here: https://theenergyblueprint.com/referral.html?p=nataliejill&w=RLTBookLaunch What if the most effective anti-aging tool isn't some skincare in your cabinet but is something that has been scientifically proven for 30 years, studied across 6,000 peer-reviewed research papers, and yet nobody told you about it? What if the reason you haven't heard about it isn't because it doesn't work, but because the science moved faster than the system? In this episode, I'm sitting down with Ari Whitten, one of the world's leading experts in photobiomodulation and red light therapy. Ari and I have known each other for nearly two decades. What he's discovered about light, cellular energy, aging, and mitochondrial health has genuinely transformed how I approach my own health. That's why I'm bringing him back to share this information with you. We're diving deep into topics that matter: Is red light therapy actually scientifically proven, or is it just the latest wellness trend? (Spoiler: 6,000 peer-reviewed studies, 30+ years of research, and now mainstream adoption says it's proven.) How does red light actually work at the cellular level? (Hint: it's not magic, it's mitochondrial biology.) Why are dermatologists still recommending sun avoidance when red light from the sun is protective? (And how do you know which wavelengths actually age you?) Which devices actually work, which ones are a waste of money, and how do you know the difference? (Device selection matters more than most people realize.) How can red light therapy support anti-aging, energy, recovery, sleep, and brain function all at the same time? (It's not separate benefits, it's connected cellular biology.) Why don't doctors talk about this if the science is solid? (The answer reveals a lot about how medicine actually works.) How does diet work synergistically with red light therapy for skin health? (Your vegetables are doing more for sun protection than you realize.) Your body hasn't evolved to live under artificial lights all day and then in bright LED light all night. It's evolved to sync with the sun. But the sun's effects on your health depend on understanding which wavelengths you're getting and what they actually do. Red light therapy isn't a new invention. It's 30 years of proven science finally becoming mainstream. When you align your light exposure with natural cycles, strategically use red light therapy for specific goals, and support your skin with proper nutrition, you're not just optimizing. You're addressing one of the most fundamental inputs to human health that most people completely overlook. The science isn't new…public understanding of it is just catching up.
Red light therapy has gained massive popularity, but many people don't understand how it works or how to use it correctly. In this episode, Ari Whitten, founder of The Energy Blueprint and author of The Ultimate Guide to Red Light Therapy, breaks down the science and explains how to use red light therapy safely and effectively for bone, joint, and muscle health. We discuss the research showing how light therapy supports bone healing, speeds recovery after exercise or injury, reduces pain, and enhances tissue regeneration. Ari also exposes common mistakes people make when buying devices and why many products on the market don't deliver the benefits they promise. If you're curious about red light therapy and want evidence-based guidance on using it safely and effectively, this episode will give you the clarity you need to get started with confidence. "Red and near infrared light have been shown in (at this point) over 6,000 studies, in many different contexts, to stimulate mechanisms at the cellular level that are involved in healing and regeneration of tissues." ~ Ari Whitten In this episode: - [01:50] - What is red light therapy? In this episode, we dive into the fascinating world of red-light therapy, starting with a fun, light-hearted chat about what “red light” usually makes people think of, before shifting into why we're actually curious about it for our own health and wellness goals. We share our personal experiences withdifferent wellness tools and then break down the science behind red light therapy in a simple way, comparing it to charging your phone, except the battery is your cells. By supporting the mitochondria, red light may help the body repair faster and calm inflammation. Along the way, we share some real-life stories, including a playful red-light challenge involving a daughter that sparked conversations around mood, energy, and even creativity. As we go deeper, we talk through the potential benefits, from skin health and muscle recovery to hair regrowth, and why red light therapy works best when it's paired with supportive lifestyle habits rather than used as a quick fix. We also cover important safety tips, like protecting your eyes and beingmindful if you have certain medical conditions. Overall, it's an easy, informative conversation meant to help you decide whether red light therapy might be a helpful addition to your own wellness journey, without the hype or pressure.Products mentioned: Bloom Beverage - Apple Crisp
Most people think creatine only affects muscle strength and performance. But what if creatine also plays a role inside fat cells themselves—and could subtly influence fat loss and body recomposition? In this episode of the Optimal Protein Podcast, Vanessa Spina I recaps the key takeaways from the interview with Dr. Scott Forbes, focusing on fat loss, body recomposition, muscle preservation, protein intake, creatine supplementation, sleep, and aging. This episode breaks down brand new research on how different training modalities, recovery, and evidence-based supplements influence fat loss and body composition—and why scale weight alone is a poor marker of fat loss success.

In this groundbreaking episode of Pushing the Limits, we sit down with Christian Drapeau, MSc - stem cell scientist, author of Cracking the Stem Cell Code, and founder & Chief Science Officer of the regenerative health company Stemregen. Christian shares his 25-plus years of pioneering research into stem cells and regenerative biology, beginning with his revolutionary idea that stem cells are the body's innate repair system, not just a medical oddity studied in labs. What We Discuss in This Episode The History of Stem Cell Science: How Christian's early neurophysiology work led him to explore blue-green algae (Aphanizomenon flos-aquae) and its surprising effects on immune health. Early hypotheses and lab studies that showed certain natural compounds actually increase circulating stem cells, kick-starting the idea of Endogenous Stem Cell Mobilization (ESCM). The Quest for Natural Stem Cell Mobilisers: Christian's global travels to find powerful plant medicines used in traditional cultures, from Madagascar's Aloe macroclada to sea buckthorn from the Tibetan plateau, and how these botanicals can increase stem cell circulation by as much as 80%. Stemregen Science & Products: We unpack Christian's work validating that increasing your own stem cells in circulation can support tissue repair, healthy aging, and whole-body regeneration, hitting at the heart of why so many chronic conditions persist. What the Stemregen Protocol includes: STEMREGEN Release — designed to support your body's natural release and migration of stem cells. Stemregen Mobilise — supports stem cell delivery by improving microcirculation and capillary health. Stemregen Signal — enhances cellular communication so stem cells can navigate to where they're needed most. Incredible Cases & Stories: Christian highlights compelling real-world cases showing how enhancing stem cell circulation supports recovery, improved vitality, and quality of life, not by treating symptoms, but by strengthening the body's own repair system. Stem Cell Therapies: Pros & Cons We also dive into conventional stem cell therapies (umbilical, adult stem cells, exosomes), contrasting them with the natural approach Christian advocates, including safety, effectiveness, and longevity implications. Why We Age: A New Perspective Christian previews his upcoming book on aging - reframing aging as a balance between repair vs. regeneration speed, and what practical lifestyle and botanical strategies can help tip the scales towards regeneration.

Skip to the start of the recap: 13:41 In today's Friday solo episode of The Optimal Protein Podcast, Vanessa breaks down the science of leptin — the hormone that determines whether your body will burn fat or protect it. Leptin isn't just about appetite. It's a metabolic permission signal, and when leptin signaling is disrupted, fat loss can stall even in a calorie deficit.
Skip to the start of the recap: In today's solo recap, Vanessa unpacks the most important takeaways from her conversation with Dr. Nick Barringer—former U.S. Army officer, researcher, and Registered Dietitian—whose work with tactical athletes and elite military populations reveals what really happens to the body during fat loss, stress, and recovery. This episode explores why so many people lose muscle when dieting, how PSMF and ketosis fundamentally change the equation, and what most fat-loss advice gets wrong.
