In this episode, Ronn and Mike discuss John 1:29-51, especially noting how Jesus would be the “lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world” (1:29). They begin by interpreting Old Testament “atonement” (Hebrew, kaphar) texts within their original context. They note how the practice of sacrifice across the ancient world was often accompanied by symbolic acts of “sanctification” as a person prepared to come into the presumed presence of a deity. This is what Jesus would do in his death, claimed John—he would cleanse not only the loyal Israelite, but anyone in the world who would put his faith in Jesus.

In this episode, Ronn and Mike study John 1:19-28, noting how John the Baptist's story was pivotal in understanding Jesus' identity. They discuss how John's prophetic ministry faced resistance from Jewish leadership, how John's practice of baptism functioned as an act of allegiance in early Christianity, and how the concept of a “messiah” (even "the messiah”) evolved in both the Old and New Testaments. Their conversation emphasized the importance of understanding the cultural background of the first century for all aspects of biblical interpretation, especially as it relates to defining the role and identity of Jesus.

Rich Baker and Mel were close followers and friends of Dr. Heiser and his ministry, and their goal will be to interview people from various cultures who have been impacted by Mike's work. They will enjoy recounting where a divine council worldview has been introduced into local ministries and how it has made a difference. Because the seduction of other gods is still very real in our modern world, understanding what it means to worship Yahweh and his Son Jesus has never been more crucial. The speakers  express gratitude for the opportunity to connect with each other and witness this unique work in bringing people together for the sake of Christ.

In this episode, host Jonathan Maus welcomes members of Timberwolves Cycle Recovery into he Shed. Also known as the Sith Lord Vader Squadron Timberwolves, they're a grassroots group of Portlanders who are taking the law into their own hands to recover stolen bicycles. They are led by Royal Johnson, who is the main voice you'll hear in the episode. Royal and Jonathan were joined by Laura Dallago, the group's treasurer, and Rich Baker, who coordinates their events and rides. Royal started the group in Austin, Texas in 2011 and he maintains a chapter of the group there, as well as one in Los Angeles, Colorado, and Houston. Their MO is to enlist people to help them spot stolen bikes, research online to find out of it the bike is indeed stolen, and then if it is, they hit the streets and try to recover it. On March 18th, Royal went on a recovery mission in the South Waterfront district that was first reported as a robbery by gunpoint. Alarmed by the initial reports, we did a story immediately based on details from an OHSU campus alert and a police report that said someone flashed a gun and robbed someone of a blue electric bike near the intersection of SW Sheridan and Moody. It was only after we published that we figured out Royal was involved and that perhaps the person who reported the gun wasn't telling the truth. It all turned into a mess, so Royal and I agreed he should come over to the shed so we could hash everything out.
