Is it just me or has the cost of playing bingo on your average cruise ship (as opposed to Bingo Cruises), gotten out of control? Especially since the amount of actual games being played is minimal. That's one of things on my mind. The other is, where are all the bingo players I typically see going? Are they burning out?

The Joy of Cruising Podcast

Send us a Text Message. This week on The Joy of Cruising Podcast, I am delighted to welcome Tristan Roebuck-Trull, Justin Roebuck-Trull, and their son young Josh, a couple from UK and creators of Cruise Buoys, rapidly growing YouTube channel, Instagram platform, blog, and Facebook group.   At https://cruisebuoys.com/: We're Justin, Tristan, and Josh – the faces behind Cruise Buoys, your new best friends in the vast ocean of cruise travel. Our love story with cruising kicked off in 2019, aboard the majestic P&O Britannia, cruising through the breath-taking Norwegian Fjords. That was it. We were hooked! Fast forward to now, we've danced on the decks of MSC Bellissima during a summer dream cruise and have collected memories from P&O, MSC, Costa, Marella, Celebrity Cruises, Virgin Voyages, Cunard, and Princess cruises. And guess what? Our adventure radar is beeping with excitement for our upcoming sails with Royal Caribbean, NCL, and Viking. Oh, and did we mention our mini adventure on Ambassador? Eight hours onboard, but a story for the ages! Why We're Obsessed with Cruising? It's simple. Cruising gives us that delicious taste of freedom and exploration we all crave, mixed with a sprinkle of luxury and a whole lot of fun. It's about waking up to a new horizon every day, indulging in endless culinary delights, and making every moment count. Through our YouTube and Instagram channels, we're not just sharing our journeys; we're bringing you into our circle, our family. We're here to spill the beans on how to make the most out of your cruise, all while keeping it real and fun. I consider Cruise Bloggers, Vloggers, and Content Creators as Cruise Community Champions and have featured them throughout The Joy of Cruising books and on The Joy of Cruising Podcast. Passionate cruisers like Tristan and Justin epitomize the joy of cruising; they are so passionate about cruising that they want to share it with the world! Plus, I have a special affinity with UK content creators—such a passionate cruise community, and the first person to agree to be featured in my first cruising book, The Joy of Cruising http://amzn.to/2EAMddF, was a UK cruise personality. I have not previously interacted with Cruise Buoys other than as friends and followers on social media. They have fun videos and have sailed a large diversity of cruise lines in their short time as cruise content creators. So, I am looking forward to getting to know someone who clearly embodies the joy of cruising, and enlarging my circle of cruising community friends, and it is now my pleasure to chat with Justin and Tristan, and to share tSupport the Show.Support thejoyofcruisingpodcast https://www.buzzsprout.com/2113608/supporters/newSupport Me https://www.buymeacoffee.com/drpaulthContact Me https://www.thejoyofcruising.net/contact-me.htmlBook Cruises https://bit.ly/TheJoyOfCruisingPodcast-BookACruiseUS Orders (coupon code joyofcruisingpodcast)The Joy of Cruising https://bit.ly/TheJoyOfCruisingCruising Interrupted https://bit.ly/CruisingInterruptedThe Joy of Cruising Again https://bit.ly/TheJoyOfCruisingAgainIntl Orders via Amazon

They also touch on the idea of loft and its opposite. The conversation covers various topics including the NCL (National Crit League) drama, the use of water cooling in races, and the potential benefits of dumping water on oneself during hot races. The hosts also discuss the idea of bringing as much water as possible to dump on the body during a hot race like Unbound. They touch on the concept of the NCL being similar to the Lifetime Grand Prix and the challenges faced by NCL riders now that the league has shut down. The conversation concludes with a lighthearted discussion about golf and the rules and attire associated with the sport. Scott discusses his recent charity ride and the Redlands race. The conversation then shifts to the performance of the Legion team and Scott's upcoming races. They also talk about the Amstel Gold race and the use of AI in training advice. The conversation covers various topics including legal issues, bike races, fantasy leagues, and gambling. The hosts discuss the Sea Otter Classic and make predictions for the race. They also talk about roadies vs. mountain bikers and the challenges of different courses. The conversation ends with a discussion about the hosts' personal experiences with racing and their picks for the race. The conversation revolves around the upcoming Sea Otter Classic mountain bike race and the decision to recon the start. The hosts discuss the course layout, potential bottlenecks, and the challenges of the race. They also speculate on their own performance and make predictions for their finishing positions. The conversation then shifts to the topic of rider safety at races and the differences between mountain bike and gravel races. They discuss the treacherous nature of some courses and the need for event organizers to prioritize safety. The hosts also touch on the topic of bike sponsorship and the decision to ride a mountain bike or a gravel bike for certain races. The conversation concludes with plans for future races and the logistics of attending them.   Takeaways Recording logistics can be challenging, especially when multiple hosts are in different locations. Different cooling mechanisms in cycling, such as ice socks and dumping water, have different effects on core temperature. The NCL and Denver Disruptors are discussed, highlighting the participation of the team in other races. The Live Golf league is mentioned as a unique and controversial approach to golf. American riders had a successful weekend in cross-country mountain biking, with multiple podium finishes. The use of bad words in the podcast is acknowledged, and the hosts joke about the impact on listeners, including children. The concept of loft and its opposite are briefly mentioned. The NCL drama highlights the challenges faced by new cycling leagues and the difficulties in sustaining them. Dumping water on oneself during hot races can provide a significant boost in power output. The use of water cooling in races may have limitations and can potentially affect the body's natural cooling mechanisms. The conversation showcases the camaraderie and banter between the hosts, making for an entertaining and engaging discussion. The hosts also touch on the rules and attire associated with golf, providing a lighthearted and humorous end to the conversation. Scott had a successful charity ride and dominated the Redlands race. The Legion team's performance has declined compared to previous seasons. The Amstel Gold race was challenging and had a low finish rate due to the cold weather. AI is being used to provide training advice based on analyzing YouTube videos. Legal issues can arise in various situations, and having a legal team is important for protection. Predicting race outcomes can be challenging, especially when considering different types of riders and courses. Fantasy leagues can add excitement and engagement to sports events, but it's important to set boundaries and not bet real money. Personal experiences and preferences can influence race predictions and choices. The Sea Otter Classic is a popular bike race event that attracts both roadies and mountain bikers. Reconnaissance of the race course is important to familiarize oneself with the start and potential bottlenecks. Rider safety should be a priority for event organizers, especially in races with treacherous terrain. The decision to ride a mountain bike or a gravel bike depends on the course and personal preference. Bike sponsorship can involve multiple sponsors for different types of races. Planning and logistics are crucial for attending races and coordinating with teammates.   Sound Bites "Dumping water in yourself you're artificially inducing evaporative cooling." "The Denver Disruptors were part of the NCL, like they were owned by the NCL." "The Live Golf league is kind of the live golf of the golf world." "Dumping water on myself, it's like an instant 30 watt boost." "To get out of them paying the million dollar prize, they just canceled the fourth race." "Imagine if the NFL had two or maybe three teams and three, maybe four games." "It was an absolute domination." "We won four out of five stages." "They still have good riders, but they..." "It's why we got a legal team, bro. It's all good." "I mean, that's probably the main thing, dude. I feel like Scott could have easily got caught out there." "Like yeah, it was him and Wild Van Art and it was so close. It took like so long." "I'll probably just save it for race day and just wing it. Worked for me last year." "There's just not a great solution to have it not be a bottleneck at the start of the race." "I don't think he's breaking the top 35, personally."

This is the first response episode for my new segment "Ask Jewells Anything About Iceland". Thank you to everyone who sent in questions and if you would like to submit a question, you can do it here. Questions sent in from the listeners of the All Things Iceland Podcast 1. Can you please discuss some of the history of Ravens in Iceland. I was delighted to hear about some mischievous Ravens by Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon, who were working in tandem to collect and confiscate tourist's goods. Do we know when they arrived in Iceland and how has their presence impacted Icelandic culture? There are several stories relating to Iceland that involve ravens. The first that pops into my mind has to do with Óðinn, the Norse God, that had two Ravens. They were named Huginn (thought) and Muninn (memory or mind). They flew around the world (Midgard) and brough back information to Óðinn. Because Norse people settled in Iceland, the belief and worship of Óðinn came with them.Another story that comes to mind is of Hrafna-Flóki. He was a Norse Viking that is said to have given Iceland its name. He didn't stay in Iceland because he encountered a very harsh winter where he almost didn't survive. However, before he left he went on top of a mountain in the fjord and saw that the fjord was packed with ice. Due to that, he called this place the land of ice or "Iceland". 2. Hello. We are taking a cruise out of Reykjavik with NCL and looking to arrive a few days early to explore. We will be renting a car with Go Car Rental and wanted to know the best way to get from their Reykjavik office to the cruise port in September upon our rental return? The cruise port is Skarfabakki. Thank you for your input! The easiest way to get from Go Car Rental Iceland's Skógarhlíð location in Reykjavík to Skarfabakki is to take a taxi. It is about 9 minutes by car, so it will not be very expensive. The name of a taxi company to use is Hreyfill. 3. If there was only one beautiful place in Iceland you could visit which one would it be? This is such a tough question. I know that only one place was requested but I will provide two. One is more remote and that is Eldgjá in the Icelandic highlands. The other is the Westman Islands, which is much easier to access. To learn about all of the places I enjoy around the country, including hidden gems, check out My Iceland Map. 4. Thank you for your informative entertaining podcast. Do you need to drive in order to fully enjoy Iceland? I'm a passenger princess and don't know how I would get around if I don't come with someone who drives. You can definitely be a passenger princess and still see Iceland. I suggest taking tours that are for small groups. It is more intimate than the big buses and you see as much of the country as you want. On this website you can find many day tour and multi-day tour options. 5. How do people in Iceland view the political climate in the US??? The answer to this can be long because it involves so many layers. In short, the Icelanders I have spoken to have often been confused about what is happening politically in the US. Not that they don't understand how the system operates but wondering why it is allowed to be the way it is. An example is that politics in the US is dominated by two parties. There is also a lot of extremism and it seems that politicians often want to pass laws or vote for laws that undermine the safety and rights of their constituents. 6. Can you please slow down and maybe even spell out that names of places you mention in your podcast? It's a wonderful podcast but it is so difficult to understand Icelandic names without seeing them in print (and even then it's difficult)! I totally understand that it can be hard to listen to the podcast and not understand how to spell the words I am saying in Icelandic. One of the reasons I write a lot of notes here on my website is so that you can reference it to see what the words look like...
