Join wrestling superfans Alex Doriot and Travis White as they "celebrate" the 5 year anniversary of Crown Jewel 2018 and the truly cursed match between The Brothers Of Destruction and DX. It's been reviewed (and reviled) as one of the worst matches of The Phenom's career - how does it hold up 5 years later? We'll analyze all the wig-splitting action and give it our fair and honest review. Then Alex and Travis both share their lists of the "Bottom 5" most HORRIFIC Undertaker matches of his entire career and debate whether this one belongs on the list. All that plus another round of Undertaker Sightings including his hype video for the Texas Longhorns football team and some follow-ups on Ronnie P. Gossett and Skandor Akbar! Before he was The Undertaker, he was The Master Of Pain! And Texas Red! And Punisher Dice Morgan! Join wrestling superfans Alex Doriot and Travis White on their encyclopedic exploration digging up The Dead Man as they take their time-traveling hearse back to the days before Mark Calaway became The Phenom we know and love and worked the territories back in the late 80s. It's a sequel to our "Main Event Monstors" episode from a couple of years ago as we've unearthed even more fascinating (and often hilarious) footage from Memphis, Texas, and even Japan. We'll take a look at Taker's first ever televised matches as Texas Red against the legendary Bruiser Brody and The Spoiler. Then we'll head back to Jerry Lawler's CWA in Tennessee to watch the Master Of Pain interact with old and new favorites like Ronnie P. Gossett, The Soultaker, Freezer Thompson, Brian Lee, Ken Raper, Nate The Rat, Jeff Jarrett, Jungle Jim, Action Jackson, and more. Plus we'll also explore Punisher Dice Morgan taking on a rookie Steve Williams (a.k.a. Stone Cold Steve Austin) and teaming up with Bam Bam Bigelow to take on some Japanese all-stars. Along the way we'll discuss Ronnie P.'s enlarged heart, part-time Hardee's workers, the differing thermostats in the buildings, a babyface Freddie Krueger, Master Of Pain's "Ricky Bobby"-style promos, and a boxing match you'll have to see to believe. All that plus we hear all about Randy Turco's experience at a recent 1 Deadman Show and we pay tribute to Terry Funk and Bray Wyatt. Download, enjoy, and Taker Easy! That it is! We're looking at some of the earliest (and most hilarious) in-ring footage of the man who would go on to be The Undertaker on this month's BACK FROM THE DEAD! Join Alex and Travis as we look back at Mark Calaway in one of his earliest gimmicks as The Master Of Pain working in the Memphis territory in 1989. You won't believe some of the other characters we unearth here like Ronnie P. Gossett, Freezer Thompson, The Japanese Team, P.Y. Chu-Hi Phil Hickerson, Lord Humongous, Detroit Demolition, and so many more facing off against The Future Dead Man. We've never laughed harder in the history of the podcast then we did recording this one - in fact we enjoyed it so much we're doing a sequel for our next episode! So refresh yourself on The Master Of Pain in Memphis and get ready for Main Event Monstors on September 1st! Click here to check out the playlist of matches we're covering for Main Event Monstors Part Deux before you join us for the new episode coming September 1st!
We're back with another pick from Brad on this episode, and we are goin' to R-A-S-S-L-I-N. Yes, he didn't learn his lesson the first time. This time he drags Sean to the thriving metropolis of Memphis, Tennessee for an episode of CWA TV from August 12th, 1989. Is this episode taking place in a tiny TV studio? Yes. Did they shoot this at 10AM? Yes. Are the wrestlers visibly hungover? Of course. This is an episode of the promotion's B-show during a period of decline, so no one's got their working boots on today, but that doesn't mean that this is a bad show. Far from it. We have early appearances of Dustin Rhodes and the Undertaker, the much-discussed Dirty White Boy, and, of course, Ronnie P. Gossett. We also get a ton of local commercials on this video, from local country buffet Po' Folks to Cheerwine to news reports on what to do with your organs after you die. Fun stuff all around. If you want to follow along with us, you can watch the video in its entirety here. Website: www.queenvenerator.com Twitter: @queenvenerator Instagram: @queenvenerator

Before he was The Undertaker, he was The Master Of Pain! Join wrestling superfans Alex Doriot and Travis White as they take their time-traveling hearse the furthest into the past it's ever gone to explore the origins of the man who would become The Phenom as he cuts his teeth in 1989 Memphis Wrestling! Mark Calaway is known here as the Master Of Pain in this footage so rare it's not even owned by the WWE. He's also greener than grass as he learns the ropes inside the squared circle, but it's fascinating to see him develop some of the moves, mannerisms, and intensity that he would go down in history for. It's also absolutely hilarious as we laugh harder than we ever have on the show diving into this old school, non-PC, southern-fried wrasslin' footage! We'll cover the ridiculous misspelling in the opening credits of this special, Master Of Pain's shaky promo delivery and confusing backstory, the ridiculous evolution of his look, his first ever title win, some of the most unfortunately named jobbers you'll ever see, some casual racism and promos that wouldn't fly in 2021, upcoming events at the local "high skoo", garbage bag ring canvasses, tar-and-feather match stipulations, and so much more. Plus we'll discuss the likes of Jerry The King Lawler, Dutch Mantell, Sid Vicious a.k.a. Lord Humongous, Downtown Bruno, Bam Bam Bigelow, P.Y. Chu-Hi, "The Japanese Team", Detroit Demolition, and our new favorite character, the incredible Ronnie P. Gossett! Do yourself a favor and watch the entire hourlong special streaming on the Wrestling TV app or on the website. Then download, enjoy, and Taker Easy! Kris & David are joined by Mike Sempervive (@Sempervive) to discuss the almost-week that was August 17-21, 1989. We start with WWF business discussion via Jim Troy talking to Multichannel News, then delve into the legal issues that Andre the Giant & Jake Roberts were facing, which were extremely interesting. That's followed up by quite the episode of Prime Time Wrestling, featuring Roddy Piper bantering with Rick Rude & Bobby Heenan throughout the whole show, which sounded like it turned into a quasi-shoot on Roddy's end. We also go over Big Van Vader beating Otto Wanz for the CWA Title in Austria and kick off his legendary triple champion run, Stampede Wrestling trying to get on ESPN, Ronnie P. Gossett winning the rights to be the promoter for the week in Memphis, the first ever USWA-branded TV show as World Class goes bye-bye, Sgt. Slaughter being robbed of the AWA Title via a horrific Dusty Finish, and then there's World Championship Wrestling, Featuring The Stars Of The National Wrestling Alliance. In what may be the all-time ultimate "WCW EVERYBODY" moment, TBS aired a three week old episode of World Championship Wrestling by mistake and couldn't find the right tape until 45 minutes after the show went off the air. Oh, and a major angle wasn't recorded correctly, either. Kris & David are joined this week by Alfredo Esparza (@therealfredo) to discuss the week that was September 2-8, 1991. We talk about the impending luchadores strike that is about to go down in Mexico with all the details about how and why this is happening, with the timing being very important because CMLL is about to get on Televisa and the big Anniversario show coming up. We also talk about Ric Flair officially signing with the WWF and what was to expected there, the 1991 King of the Ring tournament in Providence, AJPW running a big show at the Budokan, lots of great USWA clips featuring Ronnie P. Gossett going belly to belly with Bert Prentice, and of course one of the most WCW EVERYBODY sections ever featuring Clash of the Champions XVI: Fall Brawl ’91. Outstanding show, so don't miss it!!!! This is a fantastic show as always, so listen now!!!!!!!!Timestamps:0:00:00 WWF1:53:29 Int'l: AJPW, CWA, EMLL, Torreon, UWA, & Stampede2:18:12 Classic Commercial Break2:22:46 Halftime3:04:36 Other USA: ICW, ACW, Uncle Sammy, FCW, Continental, CWA/Memphis, USWA, AWA, WWA (Utah), Portland, & Vladimir Petrov4:38:03 NWA/WCW6:34:03 Patreon Preview: Fallout of Hulk Hogan singling out Superstar Billy Graham on The Arsenio Hall ShowTo support the show and get access to exclusive rewards like special members-only monthly themed shows, go to our Patreon page at Patreon.com/BetweenTheSheets and become an ongoing Patron.
