Can The Undertaker break The Von Erich Curse? Join wrestling superfans Alex Doriot and Travis White on their encyclopedic exploration digging up The Dead Man as they take their time-traveling hearse back to Dallas in 1989 to cover some of the earliest footage of Mark Calaway as The Punisher facing off with The Modern Day Warrior Kerry Von Erich and many more characters from the USWA. This episode is inspired by the award-winning film "The Iron Claw" and we'll give our thoughts on the movie before discuss these "deleted scenes" and why we think The Punisher got cut out of the movie. We'll discuss some matches and characters we never thought we'd talk about on this show including Taras Bulba, Latin Lover, Uncle Elmer, Cousin Junior, Billy Toe Travis, Eric Embry, Gentleman Chris Adams, Matt Borne, and more. Along the way we'll cover The Punisher roaming free in the badlands, grown men ripping cigs in the front row of these matches, grandmas going nuts over The Von Erichs, brawls running through the fire exits, whether or not Uncle Elmer is a trained athlete, Marc Lowrance's unintentionally funny commentary, Kerry's amazing babyface promo, the pure fun of territory wrestling, the returns of Percy Pringle III and Skandor Akbar and P.Y. Chu Hi, plus a final encounter between The Undertaker and The Texas Tornado in the WWF. Today on the Long Form History of Pro Wrestling Podcast we deep dive into June 1983 in what is an epic and historic month. Southwest wrestling is doing weird things, Hulk Hogan wins the IWGP tournament in that odd worked shoot thing with Antonio Inoki, Harley Race sets a record, The Road Warriors become a thing, and Matt Borne almost gets in deep trouble.
Episode 80 of the Long Form History of Wrestling podcast with Karl Stern is a news packed edition. Matt Borne is busted in Ohio for sexual assault of a minor and that isn't even close to the biggest news. Nancy Argentino is killed, allegedly by Jimmy Snuka in a hotel room the same night that Eddie Gilbert breaks his neck in a car crash. Plus all the regular goings on with Ric Flair, Mr. Olympia, Nick Bockwinkel, and more making the news. A packed month as 1983 ramps up.

Kris & David are back with another episode of BTS, discussing the week-plus that was June 28-July 5, 1995. We begin with WCW, as Kevin Sullivan has replaced Ric Flair as the head booker, and we go over the reasons why that happened, with Flair basically having no one to blame but himself. We also talk Eric Bischoff's interview on Chet Coppock's NewSport Talk, which is extremely interesting to look at with hindsight, plus we have the Dave Sullivan's dream date with the Diamond Doll's and Vader entering the Dungeon of Doom.Next, we go international, talking about wrestlers in Japanese politics, Kazuo Yamazaki joining New Japan, Ultimo Dragon & Chris Jericho tearing it up in WAR, Satoru Sayama training a new Tiger Mask, Winners losing his mask in Mexico, and so much more.Next, we return to the United States, where we talk about ECW's first internet convention, featuring a newsworthy house show in Jim Thorpe, Pennsylvania, plus a wild Hardcore Heaven at the ECW Arena, not to mention the 2-hour fan Q&A at the hotel, leads to some great quotes. We also have the SMW/USWA feud heating up in both promotions, including a comparison of how Mark Curtis cut promos in each promotion during the feud. We also talk about one of the biggest wrestling shows of the year that you would never expect. We close with the WWF, where we talk about their lawsuit against Matt Borne regarding his use of the Doink gimmick, Jerry Lawler visiting Dr. Isaac Yankem's office for the first time, Jeff Jarrett's With My Baby Tonight" music video making its debut, and Dave Meltzer questioning the sincerity of the WWF regarding a video feature on their work with the Special Olympics.Another fine episode of Between the Sheets, so you'd better not miss out!!!Timestamps:0:00:00 WCW1:27:46 Eurasia: Japanese politics, AJPW, NJPW, WAR, IWA Japan, Tiger Mask IV debut announcement, AJW, & CWA1:47:18 Latin America: AAA, CMLL, & IWAS Venezuela tour2:06:33 Classic Commercial Break2:09:51 Halftime2:27:33 Other USA: ECW, Fake Big Bubba Rogers, SMW, USWA, Deep South (MS), Ken Resnick, NWC, Mike Tenay, ISW, & Ultimate Warrior3:42:23 WWF4:15:17 Patreon Preview: Someone is trying to play both sides of Rita Chatterton's allegations against Vince McMahon to different TV showsTo support the show and get access to exclusive rewards like special members-only monthly themed shows, go to our Patreon page at Patreon.com/BetweenTheSheets and become an ongoing Patron. Following up on a previous New Generation Declassified about the "evil" clown Doink, today's NGD looks at when he was flipped to becoming a nice clown and the "good guy" Doink was born. Following the departure of Matt Borne, Doink's character saw a drastic change occur. Now portrayed by Ray Apollo, this new version of Doink may actually be the reason why the New Generation is looked upon so negatively. From Survivor Series 93 through the summer of 1995, we go bell to bell with today's look at a clown who will never be forgotten.

Matt Borne was well known in the pro wrestling business to have legal issues. He was arrested multiple times for a variety of crimes. WWE even once sued him to stop him from promoting himself as Doink on indy shows due to his string of arrests. He had serious heat with Jim Duggan over an issue that happened in Mid-South where Duggan alleged Borne was beating a woman. And what is the truth behind the molestation allegation that led to his firing from Georgia Championship Wrestling which led directly to the formation of The Road Warriors?
In October 2010, Mike Johnson interviewed Borne for the Elite section of PWInsider.com. Over the course of the interview, Borne discussed his return to the ring later that month as ISPWMania in New Jersey, thoughts on the WWE Wellness Policy after accepting their offer for a rehabilitation program, comparing Bret Hart to Curt Hennig in the ring, the legacy of Pacific Northwest Wrestling, things that are missing in wrestling today, the differences between wrestlers on a national level today and during his WWF run, the backstage atmosphere at Wrestlemania 1 and 9, how they differed, the creation and execution of the Doink the Clown character, his first reaction when it was suggested to him, the reaction of his father to Doink, highlights of the Doink run, the creation of the second Doink, the origin of the Doink and Dink names, being replaced in the rule by Ray Apollo, the 10,000 Doinks in the independent scene, his run in WCW as Big Josh, getting back into the wrestling scene, the WWE Hall of Famer who pushed for Borne to work the Raw Anniversary show, whether he'd be interested in another national run, the atmosphere of the Portland Sports Arena, misconceptions of Matt Borne, his short run in the original ECW, his new persona "ReBorne Again", and much more.
It's time for Luke Pennock and Brendan Flaherty to review episodes 77 and 78 of ECW, from October 11th and 18th, 1994. Tommy Cairo tends his garden! Matt Borne - sorry, Borne Again - brings 2 Cold Scorpio into his hell! Cactus Jack takes Sabu pillar to post (among other objects)! The Sandman announces his retirement from wrestling! Also discussed: nightmare travel stories, the evolution of Esperanto to Simlish, "demon abs", various sexy Television Champions, how to get a Vegas residency, Colt Cabana: inventor of the podcast, the reason that bacne is significant in wrestling, the original Miz, Dreamer's improv skills, and other sundries. https://www.patreon.com/hardcorehaven/ Follow the show on IG & Twitter @hcorehavenpod Follow Luke on Twitch: http://www.twitch.tv/pukelennock/ Theme song by RANX
New Generation Declassified for this week looks at Matt Borne’s portrayal of Doink The Clown. Doink as a whole is universally looked at as more of a comedic character, but in its original conception was a deranged and somewhat psychotic bad guy. For this discussion, Chad welcomes Kris Pavone (FKA Caylen Croft) to discuss the psychology behind this style of character, memories of “Borne’s Doink”, best moments and how the evil clown could be viewed by the modern eye.
On this week's episode, Jeremiah and Quinton review a match with Matt Borne against his former partner and brother-in-law "Playboy" Buddy Rose. It's from Don Owens' Portland Wrestling. June 5th, 1982 from world famous Portland Sports Arena!! Thanks for listening and God Bless.

Things are blowing up at the Alliance-Wrestling studios. First and foremost we're turning out content hand over fist to correspond with the NWA Studio show, #NWAPOWERRR. On this episode of Jay Cal's View, we hand over the time to Jay Cal and Jaden as an abridged version of The Alliance Guys Podcast made exclusive to the listeners of the JCV. The Alliance Guys Podcast was the original podcasting vehicle for the Alliance, starting back in 2009 when both DKM and Jaden joined Jay Cal for "Alliance Wrestling Radio." The show would be used to promote upcoming NWA Wrestling events and feature interviews with NWA talent at the time. The trio would go on to interview; Matt Borne, Lance Cade, Charlie Haas, Adam Pearce, Shawn Divari, Chance Prophet, Bill Behrens, David Marquez, and a host of others who were associated with the National Wrestling Alliance. The show would change names over the years before settling on The Alliance Guys Podcast. Please give us a listen as we #talkNWA and give some thoughts on the direction of the National Wrestling Alliance And also, thanks for everyone that has continued to visit the site, listen to the podcast, or has purchased a shirt. In this preview of the latest Patreon-exclusive, themed edition of Between The Sheets, Kris and David discuss some of the reactions to Vince McMahon's indictment that were shared in the 1993 Wrestling Flyer Yearbook. Hear what John Clark got out of Paul Heyman, Bill Eadie,Tom Brandi, Jerry Lawler, Jerry Lawler, Dave Meltzer, and Matt Borne on the most powerful man in wrestling being charged as part of a drug dealing conspiracy. Kris and David also try to decipher why the Justice Department pursued a seemingly unsinkable version of the steroid case when there was a much more serious scandal out in the open. For the whole episode, go to Patreon.com/BetweenTheSheets and support the show for just $5/month. --- Here's the description for the full show: The Patreon-exclusive shows pivot to some of the great interviews in the history of pro wrestling newsletters, starting with 1993 Wrestling Flyer Yearbook. The Flyer was put out by John Clark, who's now a long-tenured Philadelphia sportscaster, but back in the day, he did the best insider/shoot interviews in wrestling. The first half of the show focuses on John's roundtable with numerous pro wrestling notables on the state of the business, including Chris Benoit's thoughts on steroids, Terry Funk's psychic powers as the pro wrestling oracle, Paul Heyman hinting at his plans to revamp ECW, and much more. After a quick detour to Ted DiBiase talking about how he was dealing with his career-ending neck injury taking him off the road, we get to the main event: Sid Vicious. Clark interviewed Sid twice in 13 months, first when he was between promotions, and then in the aftermath of the altercation where he and Arn Anderson stabbed each other. Hear Sid's version of what happened, his thoughts on newsletter columnists blaming it on “‘roid rage,” his assessment of WCW's drug testing policy, his desire for respect from his peers, and MUCH more. This is a unique, must-listen show.
