New new free shows will be back very soon, but remember that we've been back doing weekly content on our Patreon page for a while during the free show hiatus, covering the Jerry Lawler/Stacy Carter 2001 WWE departure and eventual divorce, the WWE Network launch, and the "Clique Curtain Call." We're also starting an in-depth series on TNA getting cancelled by Spike TV and Destination America this week, which promises to be epic. In the meantime, though, here's the unreleased episode from three months ago. Will episode #544 ever be fully re-edited and re-released? We don't know. But enjoy episode #545, which is new to everyone!Kris and David (from three months ago) are back (three months ago) as we discuss the week that was February 28-March 6, 1989. Topics of discussion include:The possibility of state athletic commissions getting more involved with regulation of pro wrestling thanks to Vince McMahon testifying that they were "sports entertainment" in New Jersey.Ric Flair re-upping his contract with the NWA for three more years as the promotion is undergoing a major overhaul in every way, but not necessarily in the most positive ways.Talk of the NWA's TV product needing major changes, especially in production and overall quality.Giant Baba's questionable booking of Ricky Steamboat when he comes over as the NWA World Heavyweight Champion, as well as the original plans for the NWA Champion on this tour.A great look at Stampede Wrestling from this time period, with Ed Whalen and Bulldog Bob Brown on commentary, Brown getting involved way too much, the "retirement" of Dynamite Kid, and the greatness of Lethal Larry Cameron.Invader #1 returning to action in WWC after being acquitted on all charges in the Bruiser Brody murder case.Terry Funk's insane promo from FCW TV.Bill Dundee taking over the book in Continental and Steve Beverly shares his thoughts on what needs to be done better in that territory.Lance Russell's final TV show on WMC before leaving for the NWA…sort of, because it doesn't actually feature Lance, and we explain why that happened. The same show also featuring the debut of Ronnie P. The Podcast: The Outdated Wrestling Hour With Bob Smith podcast – now in its fourth year – offers veteran fans (as well as curious younger ones) a chance to reminisce about classic mat action from years gone by. The show is hosted by Bob Smith, the former managing editor of Pro Wrestling Illustrated magazine who also enjoyed a long history with other famous titles. Co-host Joe Puccio (GenerationXWire.com) offers a younger perspective on old wrestling before the duo ushers in guests from throughout the professional mat landscape. The Topic: It's a look back at another great wrestling territory that Canadian fans miss greatly: Stampede Wrestling, founded by the legendary Stu Hart, was an all-action organization that brought in old mat favorites and made new ones during its decades in existence. Join returning guest Mike Leotis of Wrestler Weekly as he and host Bob Smith look back at stars such as Bret and Owen Hart, Bad News Allen, Makhan Singh, and so many more as they detail a federation that's fondly remembered in the Great White North – and in the lower 48 as well!Support the showContact us at outdatedwrestling@gmail.com!
My interview with Tommy Lane of the RocknRoll RPM's. We go over his entires career from being mentored by the Mongolian Stomper Archie Goulide, to Stampede Wrestling, Kansas City and teaming up with Dusty Wolfe and Marty Jannetty, Memphis, the Fullers, World Class, Super Clash III and so much more!!!
This week on the SeanGeek and FastFret Podcast, Sean and Todd welcome a very special guest: Corey Morrissette, a multi-show podcaster whose passion for music and pop culture runs as deep as ours. We kick things off talking about Chaz Charles — a titan of the podcasting world who hosts an impressive stable of shows — and how Corey came to collaborate with Chaz, Wolfie, and Scott on The Elder Podcast, a show built around the legendary KISS concept album. It's a great conversation about what it means to love a piece of music enough to dig into it week after week. From there, we get into some housekeeping of our own. We walk you through our updated Patreon tiers and what each one gets you, because we want to make sure our community knows how to support the show — and what you get in return. Whether you're a Certified Geek, a TrueGeek, or a Supreme Geek, there's a tier for you at patreon.com/seangeekpodcast.We also revisit one of our favourite recent episodes — Heath McCoy's appearance on the show, where we dove deep into the history of Stampede Wrestling. It's the kind of conversation we love having, and if you missed it, it's well worth going back to listen. In a bit of a left turn, we spend some time on a genuinely fascinating real-world topic: gunshot detection technology. We talk through how systems like ShotSpotter work, how they help police identify the direction of gunfire and respond more quickly, and what the data is actually showing in neighborhoods where the technology has been deployed. It's the kind of story that sounds technical on the surface but turns out to be pretty compelling once you get into it.Oh, and Todd's theme song? We tried. We really did. We'll leave it at that. But it does lead into a great conversation about wrestling entrance music — which bands should be walking out to what themes, and which ones actually fit. Corey has opinions. Strong ones. From there we get into Bon Jovi, and specifically into Jon Bon Jovi's well-documented vocal struggles following throat surgery. It's not a pile-on — it's an honest conversation about what happens when time catches up with rock royalty, and what it means when a frontman who built a career on that voice is clearly not the same performer he once was.We also dig into the current state of concert-going — ticket prices, opening acts, and the increasingly difficult math of deciding whether a show is worth it. With Motley Crue and Creed both coming through Winnipeg, we have some thoughts on where the bar is these days and whether it's being cleared. We close out Part One with a deep dive into ZZ Top — specifically the Eliminator era, the ongoing debate about drum machines versus live drums in their recordings, and what the future might hold for a Corey-led ZZ Top season of Ultimate Catalog Clash. Plus, a quick appreciation for Billy Gibbons, who at 76 years old remains one of the coolest human beings on the planet.Part Two is coming soon, and we promise it's worth the wait.Support the show at patreon.com/seangeekpodcast. Chaz and the assembled Order of Mildly Concerned Scholars (Wolfy, Scott, Corey, and special guest Heath McCoy—clearly summoned from a higher KISS dimension) plunge headlong into “Dark Light”, a song that dares to answer the question: What if Ace Frehley, Lou Reed, and a prog-rock fever dream all walked into the same enchanted tavern? The result is… well… something. What unfolds is less a discussion and more a ceremonial unpacking of a deeply confused artifact—part space opera, part Dungeons & Dragons campaign, part “we probably should've stopped this earlier.” Heath arrives as both evangelist and realist, boldly claiming there is greatness buried somewhere in this album, though not necessarily in the immediate vicinity of tonight's track.Meanwhile, the show's increasingly ambitious Elder screenplay project barrels forward—this week delivering a full-on siege, complete with undead devils, flaming roses, telepathic shouting, and at least one man being eaten by an owl. (Not a metaphor. Just…effin...eaten.)There is debate over authorship, bewilderment over Lou Reed's involvement, sympathy for poor Eric Carr, and a growing sense that everyone involved—band and podcasters alike—may be in slightly over their heads. And yet… onward they march.Because if The Elder teaches us anything, it's that commitment to the bit is absolute, even when the bit begins to stare back at you with softly glowing demon eyes.Featuring:A guest who loves KISS enough to tell the truthA song that may or may not qualify as “pretty good” under USDA & Ohio laboratory conditionsA script that has now fully embraced chaos as a narrative strategyRepeated reminders not to lean into the mic (but absolutely lean into the madness)THIS WEEK'S SONG:“Dark Light” — KISS (with unexpected assistance from Lou Reed… yes, really)FINAL VERDICT:Not the worst thing on the album.Which, in this context, is both praise… and a warning.Macho Man Heath McCoy is the author of Pain and Passion: The History of Stampede Wrestling, available on Amazon.ca and at ECW Press. He appears in the award winning documentary Singhs in the Ring on Crave TV and co-hosts School of Hip with Chaz Charles here on the Boneless Podcasting Network. The ShowIn this season of Regarding…, the panel tackles KISS's Music From The Elder one song at a time—testing whether its epic ambition holds up under scrutiny. Alongside the analysis, Scott D. Monroe's original screenplay tries to turn the album's abstract mythology into an actual story.Ambition meets accountability.GO BONELESSCertified boneless in the state of Ohio by the Boneless Podcasting Network. SeanGeek and FastFret welcome author Heath McCoy for a deep dive into the golden age of Canadian wrestling territories. Heath brings his historian's eye to the fascinating ecosystem of regional promotions — how wrestlers moved between them, how championships were structured, and what made each territory distinct. The conversation covers the inner workings of Stampede Wrestling in Calgary and Atlantic Grand Prix Wrestling in the Maritimes, the financial arrangements between promotions, and the careers of wrestlers like Ric Flair, Andre the Giant, Randy Savage, Leo Burke, and the Cuban Assassin as they navigated the territory circuit. Heath and the guys also take stock of where professional wrestling stands today compared to the more improvisational, character-driven era that made the business so compelling.https://www.amazon.ca/Pain-Passion-History-Stampede-Wrestling/dp/1550227874 https://shows.acast.com/school-of-hipLinktree: https://linktr.ee/seangeekpodcastPatreon: https://www.patreon.com/c/seangeekpodcastWe are a part of the Boneless Podcast Network: https://goboneless.lovable.app/Merch:Tee Public: https://www.teepublic.com/seangeekpodcastRed Bubble: https://www.redbubble.com/people/seangeekpodcast/shop@seangeekpodcast on Twitter, Instagram and FacebookMentioned in this episode:New Merch AdAn ad that incorporates Red Bubble and Tee Public

Have any interesting stories to tell us? Lets us know here!Last we left off, Benoit rose to international fame in the wrestling world, met his wife and victim Nancy, had a son named Daniel, and concluded with the untimely death of his best friend, Eddie Guerrero. From this point on Benoit would be visibly different to everyone. His violent tendencies outside the ring had already started happening more frequently. Combine that with Guerrero being gone, and Benoit was truly broken. Just us as we dive into Benoits brain, CTE, and the ridiculous conspiracies surrounding his death!Warning - this episode deals with some pretty heavy topics, including abuse, sexual and otherwise, and horrific violence. With that being said, jokes are being made about the killer and the industry, not the victims. If there's one thing Benoit earned through his actions, its public ridicule. So with that said, enjoy the show!If you enjoyed the show, please follow us on whatever podcast app you are using. If you'd like to take it further, a like and review helps as well. It means a ton. This week, as promised, an announcement on the future of McGuire on Wrestling. Also, it's an overload of guests this week as Joe Aguinaldo and Mike bring back a mini "Tuesday Morning Cooked" episode after an eventful Monday Night Raw, including John Cena officially becoming a "Grand Slam" champion in WWE. Joe also looks back at the influence legendary commentator Bob Caudle had on his life as a wrestling fan. In what could be "a pod is born" moment, you'll meet Jordan Clarke, who is best known to Stampede Wrestling and Canadian wrestling fans as "Dirty" Duke Durrango - a veteran who just happened to be there for a certain "Low Key Legend's" formative days in the wrestling business - but also has a deep well of wrestling history of his own. And as a special bonus, a preview of a conversation Andy Evans from Legends and Champions had with TNA Star, "The Hollywood Hunk", Ryan Nemeth! For more on our shows, visit celebratewrestling.com

The pride of Dorchester, New Brunswick, Leonce Cormier, best known as Leo Burke, was a Canadian Pro Wrestling Icon. Known to fans across the Maritimes, Leo would find his way to Stampede Wrestling, Maple Leaf Wrestling, Puerto Rico, Japan, and even occasionally have stints in the United States, under the ring name of Tommy Martin. Burke would become one of the most trusted, and most beloved trainers and mentors to some of the wrestling industry's biggest and brightest names. In this special episode of McGuire on Wrestling, you'll hear from some of those names, including: Bret "Hitman" Hart - Protege of Leo Burke's, who would go onto worldwide fame and reach the status of legend in Professional Wrestling. One of professional wrestling's all-time greats would first learn his way around a wrestling ring, thanks to Leo Burke. "The World's Strongest Man", Mark Henry - A later student of Leo Burke's who found his way to Calgary after a rocky start in the WWE, Mark would also reach legendary status as a world champion and Hall of Fame wrestler. Rene Dupree - Son of Emile Dupree, and part of the family that owned and promoted Atlantic Grand Prix Wrestling, where many would become stars, but Leo would become iconic. Renee would go on to become one of the youngest pro wrestlers to sign with WWE, and in addition to continuing his wrestling career today, hosts the popular "Cafe de Rene" Podcast. Aidan "Synn" Pringle - An accomplished independent professional wrestler and actor, Aidan Pringle is a second generation wrestler who owes a lot of his lessons in and out of the ring to Leo Burke as they would remain friends to the final minutes of Leo's life. Greg Oliver - Celebrated Author, historian and journalist, Greg would get to know Leo Burke and his family through years of wrestling coverage, and eventually be welcomed into the fold to take part in family events and memories. "Wildman" Gary Williams - Another well known professional wrestler along Canada's independent scene, Williams would follow Leo Burke throughout the Maritimes, as a fan, and eventually as a student, following Leo to Calgary to train at the invite only Bret Hart camp. Dave Meltzer - Founder of "The Wrestling Observer" Newsletter, and a historian and journalist of the professional wrestling world, Dave is a regular contributor to the McGuire on Wrestling podcasts, and offers some historical insight into Leo's impact across Canada. This episode is presented commercial free. While not affiliated with this podcast, Leo's family encourages that donations in his memory be made in support of Alzheimer's research and care. They won several tag team championships in various promotions, including the NWA and Stampede Wrestling, before joining the WWF.In the WWF, the Bushwhackers quickly became a popular tag team, thanks in part to their appearances on the children's show "G.I. Kris and David are joined by BOTH Beau James (@KingofKingsport) and Robert O'Connor (@ghostofquinones) for a special holiday season episode where we discuss the week-and-a-half that was December 11-21, 1989.We start off with the NWA, talking about Starrcade '89, a.k.a. FUTURE SHOCK, as we have Dave Meltzer's report from watching on TV as well as Steve Beverly's from being there live at the Omni. We talk about the IRON MAN round robin tournaments and how damn silly it was with how this show could've been so much better without them. We also run down all the other major happenings going on in the NWA as well.O'Connor waxes poetic about his lovely Canada in the International section as we have a LONG TV taping for the WFWA in Winnipeg plus the end of Stampede Wrestling as we knew it and why all of that happened. Then we come back to the U.S.A. to talk about the Indie scene, where we go deep into Eddie Gilbert & Paul E. Dangerously's CONSORTIUM of wrestling promotions that was allegedly in the mix, specifically Beau laying out how it only makes sense as an almost master plan to get Eddie fired from the NWA. We also hear from the Master of Pain and Soultaker in Memphis, trade stories about Randall Brown and his "kidnapping,” look back at Joe Pedicino proposing to Boni Blackstone, and a whole lot more.We close with the WWF, where they tape NO HOLDS BARRED: THE MATCH for a NO HOLDS BARRED CHRISTMAS, the tag titles changing hands at a TV taping, Macho King, Sherri, and Zeus on the Brother Love Show, and much more.We hope you enjoy this show, as when you have both Beau and O'Connor together, it's an epic one.Timestamps:0:00:00 NWA/WCW2:29:10 Classic Commercial Break2:33:05 Halftime2:39:29 Int'l: NJPW, WFWA, Stampede, EMLL, Arena Naucalpan, UWA, & WWA3:36:37 Other USA: ICW, Bam Bam Bigelow, WWA, Tully Blanchard, Randall Brown, Joe Pedicino/Boni Blackstone, PWF, The Consortium, CWA/Memphis, USWA, NAWA (TX), AWA, PWA, LPWA, WIN (CA), HHW, & Portland5:53:09 WWF6:34:31 Patreon Preview: The bait and switch that led to the dwarf dressed up as Bret Hart was so much worse than you remember it beingTo support the show and get access to exclusive rewards like special members-only monthly themed shows, go to our Patreon page at Patreon.com/BetweenTheSheets and become an ongoing Patron.
