For the Canaanites and all the inhabitants of the land will hear of it and will surround us and cut off our name from the earth. And what will you do for your great name?” SLIDE 3 – Today's Big Idea: God's Grace Not Only Takes Us In … But Keeps Us Going. So Don't Call it a Comeback … Call it a Covenant. SLIDE 4 – Point 1: God Renews His Covenant with Israel … and They Defeat Ai. (vv. 1-29) SLIDE 5 – Principle (from vv. 1-9): “We must consult God about everything, and trust God with everything. This attitude strengths faith and brings repentance.” SLIDE 6 – Insert a Copy of Point #1 of Sermon SLIDE 7 – 1st Principle (from vv. 10-29): “Trusting in God leads to trapping our enemies, namely, this fallen world, our flesh, and the devil.” SLIDE 8 – Insert a Copy of Point #1 of Sermon SLIDE 9 – Genesis 9:22-26 – “And Ham, the father of Canaan, saw the nakedness of his father and told his two brothers outside … When Noah awoke from his wine and knew what his youngest son had done to him, he said, ‘Cursed be Canaan; a servant of servants shall he be to his brothers.' He also said, ‘Blessed be the Lord, the God of Shem; and let Canaan be his servant.” SLIDE 10 – Psalm 105:23 – “Then Israel came to Egypt; Jacob sojourned in the land of Ham.” SLIDE 11 – Insert a Copy of Point #1 of Sermon SLIDE 12 – 2nd Principle (from vv. 10-29): “God has mercy on whomever He chooses and blesses whomever He wants. What a difference obedience makes.” SLIDE 14 – Point 2: Israel Renews Her Covenant with God … and They Return to their Mission. (vv. 30-35) SLIDE 15 – Romans 12:1 – “I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship.” SLIDE 16 – Insert a Copy of Point #2 of Sermon SLIDE 17 – Principle (from vv. 30-35): “God's warnings are directed at God's people, not someone else.” SLIDE 18 – Conclusion: “When Israel stumbled, they didn't pick themselves up – God did. In this episode, Andrew talks with Ian Harber about deconstruction. More specifically, how to walk with someone who is going through deconstruction. Ian, who has gone through a deconstruction process himself, makes the point that at the end of deconstruction, there is always reconstruction. Reconstruction can look like a closer walk with Jesus, or it can look like leaving the faith altogether - or anywhere in between. Ian is author of the new book, Walking Through Deconstruction. He serves as Director of Communications and Marketing for Mere Orthodoxy. He also writes regularly about faith and life in a post-Christian age at his Substack, Back Again. It has been almost two years since we've had Abigail Wilson on the show (which we cannot believe). We are thrilled to have her back to talk about her new book: An Invitation to Christmas. It seems like Christmas season is the busiest time of the year, every year. But it can also be a time of deep reflections, and refocusing our eyes on Jesus, as we get ready to celebrate His birth. In her book, Abigail invites us to see how specific promises in the Old Testament about Jesus' coming, the people who pointed to Him, those who worshipped Him, and how we, today, can pause and still see Him working. Her book is available on Amazon now, so get it while you can! Abigail Wilson is a native Texan living in Europe with her husband and three children. She spends most of her days Moming her kids and her kid's friends whenever needed, navigating her way down Europe's stupidly small roads, folding endless laundry, and decorating her house for every possible holiday. However, teaching Bible studies and writing are her passions, and while this is her first published devotional, it feels like it has been something she's been working on her whole life. You can also read her memoir on loss and finding hope amid seasons of waiting, The Day Between: A Memoir of Miracles, on Kindle and paperback. There is a reason that in Philippians 4:6, Paul tells us to present our requests to God, with thanksgiving. It is not because God is an ego-maniac who needs to be acknowledged for everything He does (although He really should be acknowledged for everything He does, because without Him, we wouldn't be breathing). God knows that gratitude changes everything. It changes us, and it changes the world around us. He does everything for our best interest, and telling us to practice gratitude is no different. We love having Shelton Markham on, and this episode can be filed under the "gems from Shelton" folder. At the end of the episode, he and Andrew give us some practical tools for being thankful, and you don't want to miss those. Need a framework for making disciples?
