Paul and the church at Philippi received significant opposition to the true gospel they received through faith. Many pushed the church to pursue worldly forms of power and following rules and regulations to experience right relationship with Christ. Today we still experience these messages and feel this pressure, believing that right relationship with Christ can be earned by perfect doctrine and behaviors and believing Christ is somehow present more in power than weakness. Paul reminds us that it is only through faith that we have been made right with God. Paul reminds us when we suffer Christ co-suffers with us. Relationship with God isn't earned, it's freely given from God. Scriptures: Philippians 3:4b-14

Often we think that the word "joy" is synonymous with the word "happy", but that couldn't be farther from the truth! Happiness is a temporary emotion, driven by a variety of things, and can come and go in the blink of an eye. The pursuit of happiness can drive us to do things that will rob us of joy, rob others of joy, and ultimately steal both our happiness and joy. True Joy can only come from one place. True Joy does not promise perpetual happiness. True Joy should be our desire, and it's a desire of giving, of serving, of worshipping...joy is not about "me". Join Pastor Jason as he unfolds the reality, the mystery, of Joy, and start pursuing true joy today! As part of our Advent Season, the Joy candle and reading was done by Cyndi and Chuck Bowman. While a friend and I were talking the other day, I was intrigued by God's attention to the details of our lives. As long as we know Jesus as our Lord and Savior, we have NOTHING to fear! The Word is true when it says to worry about nothing but to pray about EVERYTHING. Yes, God cares about every little detail in our lives. As we are practicing discernment in December, we must be mindful of the Devil's attempts to get us up in arms. God's got us, and don't you ever forget it!

Gratitude is more than just a thank you, it's a lifestyle - and one that we can use to protect ourselves from crumbling under the stresses of everyday life. In Part I of the November collection of episodes, Dorian and Morgan discuss how we can navigate life's challenges with an attitude of gratitude to keep God at the center of even the toughest situations. Scriptures: Philippians 4:6 James 1:1 Colossians 3:17 1 Thessalonians 5:16-17
Scriptures Philippians 3:18-21 (For many walk, of whom I have told you often, and now tell you even weeping, that they are the enemies of the cross of Christ: Whose end is destruction, whose god is their belly, and whose glory is in their shame, who mind earthly things.) For our conversation is in heaven; from whence also we look for the Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ: Who shall change our vile body, that it may be fashioned like unto his glorious body, according to the working whereby he is able even to subdue all things unto himself.
Scriptures Philippians 1:20-24 ‘My eager expectation and hope is that I will not be ashamed about anything, but that now as always, with all courage, Christ will be highly honored in my body, whether by life or by death. For me, to live is Christ and to die is gain. Now if I live on in the flesh, this means fruitful work for me; and I don't know which one I should choose. I am torn between the two. I long to depart and be with Christ — which is far better — but to remain in the flesh is more necessary for your sake. ‘ Philippians 1:20-24
Scriptures Philippians 4:4-12 ‘Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! Let your graciousness be known to everyone. The Lord is near. Don't worry about anything, but in everything, through prayer and petition with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus. Finally brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable — if there is any moral excellence and if there is anything praiseworthy — dwell on these things. Do what you have learned and received and heard from me, and seen in me, and the God of peace will be with you. I rejoiced in the Lord greatly because once again you renewed your care for me. You were, in fact, concerned about me but lacked the opportunity to show it. I don't say this out of need, for I have learned to be content in whatever circumstances I find myself. I know both how to make do with little, and I know how to make do with a lot. In any and all circumstances I have learned the secret of being content — whether well fed or hungry, whether in abundance or in need. ‘
Scriptures Philippians 4:8-9 ‘Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things. What you have learned and received and heard and seen in me—practice these things, and the God of peace will be with you. ‘ Genesis 16:3 ‘So Abram's wife Sarai took Hagar, her Egyptian slave, and gave her to her husband Abram as a wife for him. This happened after Abram had lived in the land of Canaan ten years. Deuteronomy 21:18-21 ‘“If a man has a stubborn and rebellious son who does not obey his father or mother and doesn't listen to them even after they discipline him, his father and mother are to take hold of him and bring him to the elders of his city, to the gate of his hometown. They will say to the elders of his city, ‘This son of ours is stubborn and rebellious; he doesn't obey us. He's a glutton and a drunkard.' Then all the men of his city will stone him to death. You must purge the evil from you, and all Israel will hear and be afraid. ‘ Quotes Dorothy Sayers “For whatever reason God chose to make man as he is— limited and suffering and subject to sorrows and death—He had the honesty and the courage to take His own medicine. Whatever game He is playing with His creation, He has kept His own rules and played fair. He can exact nothing from man that He has not exacted from Himself. He has Himself gone through the whole of human experience, from the trivial irritations of family life and the cramping restrictions of hard work and lack of... Read More
