The tradition of representatives of vassal states “kow-towing” by prostrating themselves before China emperors long predated its practice by the likes of Henry Kissinger and Bill Clinton. But it seems certain to be on display during Secretary of State Tony Blinken's current mission to Beijing, delayed by what Joe Biden calls “the silly balloon.” What would be truly silly – if it weren't so dangerous – is the proposition that visits by a man of Blinken's exceedingly limited abilities, a track record of appeasement in office and a personal history as a member of the Chinese Communist Party's “captured” American elite would do other than reinforce Emperor Xi Jinping's conviction that he can get away with murder, literally. Far from making violent conflict with the CCP less likely, Team Biden's insistence on such kow-towing “engagement” undermines our chances of deterring it. This is Frank Gaffney.
No Drill- The CCP Is Preparing for a Shooting War–Webinar by Committee on the Present Danger- China
Evidence is accumulating that the Chinese Communist Party is poised to add a shooting war to the pre-kinetic “unrestricted warfare” against America in which it has long engaged. Increasingly shrill rhetoric about the United States – including Foreign Minister Qin Gang's recent comment that conflict is “inevitable” if we do not change course – is being accompanied by, among other things, the stand-up of defense mobilization offices across China. Center for Security Policy expert Dr. Bradley Thayer says dictator Xi Jinping is preparing his people for the sacrifices associated with a long conventional, or even a nuclear, war with the United States. He believes that will entail violent action against the American homeland, not just our friends, interests and assets in the Western Pacific. U.S. leaders' failure to warn our people of this danger, and act now to deter it, is criminally malfeasant. This is Frank Gaffney.
In our last episode, we discussed two major areas of concern for orthodox Catholics – the so-called Synodal Path and the aggression of Vladimir Putin against Ukraine. This week we will look at other issues that are equally urgent. We hope to inspire you, our listeners, to pursue two courses of action. First and foremost, pray for all those involved in or affected by these issues. Especially, we urge you to follow Our Lord's command that we pray for our enemies. At the same time, we urge you to become informed about these issues and take action. Our website, www.returntoorder.org is an excellent place to begin. There, you will find analyses that are unavailable from any other source. Then, we ask you to spread the word to friends, co-workers, and members of your parish.
These are tumultuous times in which to be a Catholic. The threats to our beliefs and our ways of life grow ever larger. These threats come from world capitals, the movement that we refer to as “woke,” and from modernist forces within the Church. It is important, however, not to despair as we hear about the implications of these events. We need to rely on Our Lord and Our Lady to guide us through troubled times. In this first part of a two-part podcast, we will take a careful look at the year just past. This week, we will focus specifically on the Revolution in the Chruch and the Russo-Ukraine War.

There are three ways in which the ongoing Ladakh fracas could be resolved. The first, an early resolution to status quo ante, second, a prolonged standoff through the winter and third, a shooting war. China believes it can take on each of its protagonists, that its time has come to take what belongs to it. Moreover, Uncle Sam is far away, so China is telling the region that it has to learn to come to terms with the new big power on the block. David speaks with psychiatrist Dr. Anthony Feinstein to talk about his work and latest book, SHOOTING WAR: 18 PROFILES OF CONFLICT PHOTOGRAPHERS. Originally aired on March 14th 2019.
On this episode of the B&H Photography Podcast, we welcome neuropsychiatrist Anthony Feinstein, and the Director of Editorial Content at Adobe, Santiago Lyon, to discuss Feinstein’s latest book Shooting War. “What makes a person choose a profession in which they know that scores of their colleagues, some of them friends, will be killed each year, while hundreds of other colleagues will be arrested and some will go missing, never to be found? Why choose a profession that entails running toward grave danger while those around you flee from it? If you can answer these questions, you begin to gain insight into the complex world of frontline journalists.” The above paragraph begins the profile of Santiago Lyon in Shooting War, and provides an apt summary for our own episode. We discuss the motivations that drive photographers to cover war, as well as the consequences to their physical, psychological, and emotional health they face. Feinstein brings his years of clinical work studying the effects of war on journalists and Lyon adds insight from his personal experiences as a conflict photographer and editor. Of course, we also discuss the research that went into the making of the book, and Feinstein relates the experiences of several of the photographers mentioned in his book. Anthony Feinstein is professor of Psychiatry at the University of Toronto. He has authored a series of seminal studies exploring the psychological effects of conflict on journalists, including Journalists Under Fire and Battle Scarred, and is a Guggenheim fellow. The 2012 documentary, Under Fire, is based on his research and won a Peabody Award. Prior to his position at Adobe, Lyon was Director of Photography at The Associate Press and a respected photojournalist who covered conflicts in Latin America, the Balkans, Afghanistan, and Somalia. As an editor at AP, he led teams that earned Pulitzer Prizes on three different occasions. He is one of eighteen photographers profiled in Shooting War. Join us for this powerful episode.
