In this episode of Bring the Pain, I rekindle my musical moniker, Bring the Music, by having a long-time music produce on the site. Simon Shackleton is an electronic/UK beats and breaks producer who has had many different personas over the years. With each change, Simon also sculpted his music the same way to fit his style at that time. In his latest adventure, Simon challenged himself to go back in time to an album he started a long time ago when he was going through some stuff. Now that he had released some of the new songs for the album, Simon sets his sites on his live world premiere at Denver's Holiday Theatre on February 8th. This podcast is a journey through his musical adventure, and the stories to go along with it are truly memorable. So come on a journey with us into the shadows while we heal our souls to this cinematic destination. Thank you for the support and contributions all of you make for my podcasts and articles each week. The dust blew in hard. Relentless. All Burn long. Destroyed pretty much everything. Beautiful it was. There was true love, crushing loss, epiphany, change. We were challenged, confronted, baffled, amused. It threw us curveballs, softballs, thrashed our weary minds to the point of burnout. In the middle of this Carnival of Chaos, were the twin techno towers of DISTRIKT, letting fly with winning smiles, throbbing bass, passionate hugs, rainbow tears and a sense of unity through the beauty of the beat. We wore black. And we fucking rocked. - Simon

Simon Shackleton, the man behind Elite Force, is dropping a stellar new, exlusive mix on all you Soupaholics, and we're super stoked to have it!  Make sure to give this a deep, thorough listen . . . you'll be glad you did!  Check it . . .  Simon Shackleton has been a Force to be reckoned with in Electronic Music over the past 25 years. He cut his teeth in the original acid house era when he performed in bands with Thom Yorke (Radiohead), went on to provide soundtracks from Hollywood blockbusters (The Matrix, Charlie's Angels) under his Lunatic Calm guise and then forged his own way with his Fused & Bruised label, home to his output as Elite Force for several years.  After stints on Moonshine and City of Angels in the US and Whole9Yards in the UK, he founded U&A Recordings back in 2006 as a vehicle for his own music, including his Zodiac Cartel productions. More recently, he has diversified with new imprint Stereophoenix, and recording under his real name has been responsible for a whole host of deeper, euphoric, techy productions. He also founded The One Series, a bespoke series of events featuring One DJ, One Room, All Night, at which he's played a number of 6, 7 and 8-hour sets. A Burning Man regular, Simon has also played many of the world's biggest festivals, including Coachella, Glastonbury, Future Music Festival, Shambhala, Rainbow Serpent, Kazantip and many more. This exclusive one-hour mix was compiled during a recent trip to Beijing, China. "We were somewhere around Gerlach on the edge of the desert when the drugs began to take hold....I remember saying something like 'I feel a bit lightheaded; maybe you should drive'. And suddenly there was a terrible roar all around us and the sky was full of what looked like huge jetsprays, all swooping and screeching and diving around the RV, which was going about three miles an hour with the windows open, cruising to Black Rock City. And a voice was screaming: 'Holy Jesus! What are these goddamn animals?'.....I regained my composure and drawled, 'My friend, we are home. THIS is DISTRIKT.'" - Hunter "Shack" Thomspon For sixteen years our pal Simon Shackleton (or "Shack" as we like to call him) has been writing, recording and releasing chart-topping tracks under various pseudonyms (Elite Force, Zodiac Cartel, Dust Bowl, Lunatic Calm and Flicker Noise) for many of the world's finest dance labels (Lot49, TCR, Kingsize, Thrust Recordings). And few, if any, have made a more indelible imprint on the world of dance music in as many areas (DJ, producer & label boss) over a longer period of time than has Shack. The most recognized of his aliases, Elite Force, has been celebrated around the globe for both his accomplishments in the studio and incendiary live DJ sets. Earlier this year, he received the prestigious Breakspoll award for top producer while his multi-genre label, U&A Recordings, was also recognized by Breakspoll as the very best in the world of breakbeat. In his twenty-one years as a DJ, Elite Force has electrified dance crowds at major clubs and international festivals with his signature "bass-driven warehouse music" from Kazakhstan to Australia, London to Tokyo and Budapest to Black Rock City. "Elite Force unites the sometimes warring factions of electro house, techno, and breakbeat, like a peace keeper who values the spirit of cooperation and tolerance", wrote Beatport in 2009. "He was forged in the fires of breakbeat, which has always had a habit of sucking in sounds that pass by. His sets are like a team performance, with tracks coming from all corners of the bass-driven sector, to create a vibrant hodgepodge of boundary-pushing dance music….“ Unbeknownst to many of his fans, Shack's exploits as a producer extend far beyond the realm of dance music into film, television and even video games. His music has been the soundtrack for major motion pictures like The Matrix, Emmy-award winning TV shows such as CSI and his recent collaboration with acclaimed film-score composer, Klaus Badelt (Pirates of the Caribbean, Gladiator, X-Men), on PS3's Motorstorm Apocalypse is yet another crown jewel in a litany of musical accomplishments. Since his first pilgrimage to Black Rock City in 2009, Shack has become a good friend to many of us who make our home on the corner of 9:00 and F at Burning Man. And we're thrilled to have him back in the DISTRIKT line-up again in 2011 (you can catch Shack's closing set on the DISTRIKT sound system Wednesday afternoon). Suffice to say we couldn't think of a better choice for this, the last episode of the DISTRIKT podcast before Burning Man, than Elite Force. Enjoy Everyone! Simon Shackleton's Elite Force project began way back in 1996, debuting on his own newly founded Fused and Bruised label with a series of peerless 12s and remixes. After a successful five years, he put Fused and Bruised on the backburner to concentrate on production work, and following several years with Whole9Yards and Moonshine he became a mainstay recording artist for AdriftRecordings (formally known as Kingsize Records) before moving on to set up hisown hugely successful U&A imprint. Often credited for being a lynchpin in the developing the tech-funk genre (an amalgamation of breaks, house, techno and electro) he has released a series of highly successful singles in the past few years, finding broad support from DJs and musicians across the board, including the likes of James Zabiela, Sasha, Crystal Method, Laurent Garnier and Fatboy Slim to name but five. In 2008 released a semi-retrospective double album's worth of remixes and re-workings of a 12-year back catalogue, with over 25 mixes coming from such luminaries as Miles Dyson, Rogue Element, Deepgroove, Dylan Rhymes & Calvertron. In addition to these solo singles, Meat Katie has been a regular collaborator with Elite Force, a relationship that had begun in 2003 with the massive-selling 'Toba', and that will see their creative relationship come to fruition in 2009 with the launch of their new joint project under the name ‘Dustbowl', as well as a series of singles under the ‘Meat Katie & Elite Force' banner. As a remixer, Elite Force has always been in huge demand, with re-workings for the likes of Grandmaster Flash, Crystal Method, Jungle Brothers, Stereo MCs, UNKLE, Infusion, Rennie Pilgrem, Shiloh and Dylan Rhymes all contributing to his reputation as one of the most creative and effective remixers around. Elite Force's music has also been the soundtrack to many a movie, with a huge list of impressive A-list credits to his name, including the likes of the Matrix, Charlie's Angels, Arlington Road, Mortal Kombat, Crow, The Bone Collector, The Jackyll, Spiderman 2 and his music has appeared on a wide array of TV shows, from CSI to Top Gear, from Football Focus to LA Doctors. He's also soundtracked a number of computer games, including no fewer than 5 FIFA games, several of the Wipeout series, The Matrix and Motorstorm 1, and he is currently writing some bespoke music for forthcoming games for Ferrari and Motorstorm2. On the decks, Elite Force has been a prime mover since 1990 when he cut his teeth playing huge student nights and self-promoted acid house nights in the South West of England, before moving up to ....London.... and ultimately gravitating towards his tech-funk style, with which he now has a full diary of global bookings. He has become known as one of the top technicians on a circuit that has included massive shows in Belarus, Hungary, Australia, Italy, USA, Czech Republic, India, Turkey, Spain, Japan, Georgia, Ukraine, Kazakhstan, and China, amongst others, as well as numerous festival slots including Glastonbury, Coachella, Bloom, Wickerman, the Glade and more recently Burning Man. He was also responsible for the hugely influential Strongarm Sessions webcasts which became something of an institution since their inception back in 2001, receiving as they did around 20,000 downloads per show, but now put on the backburner to concentrate on other projects, such as his own blog (Techfunkmanifesto) and his other musical projects, such as Dustbowl (with Meat Katie).
