It's the best way we can keep bringing in quality guests. This episode we speak to Daniel Cerventus LimDaniel has been an avid practitioner in technology and business for more than 20 years now. Having initiated his first technology related startup since tertiary years was a demonstration of relentless taking the challenge to the next level even at a tender age. The ambition only grew bigger when the startup was then invested by Multimedia University Malaysia (MMU). Through the growing years, he has worked on various mid to large sized projects ranging from the Ministry of Youth and Sport's projects (Rakan Muda) to consulting several companies in digital marketing and e-commerce space before embarking on building an education portal. The venture took shape along the years and through keen eyes on latest trends, pivoted into an education tourism company that facilitates middle eastern students to Malaysia in tandem with aims of Ministry of Tourism of Malaysia in bringing in foreign investment. Daniel soon exited this company and moved on with many other great interests. Upon exiting, Daniel pursued various community driven and entrepreneurial projects in Malaysia such as Barcamp and Startup Camp to help to grow the startups and developers ecosystem in Malaysia. Through his experience, he then founded Entrepreneurs.my and soon became one of Malaysia's leading resource for entrepreneurial content around Malaysia and neighbours Singapore and Indonesia. Entrepreneurs.my grew in online traction and seeing the interest from Asian countries, it has been rebranded to NextUp.Asia.Daniel has also served as advisor, mentor and board of director of numerous entrepreneurs' organization around Malaysia and South East Asia. Daniel is also the founding curator of TEDxKL - one the largest TEDx events in the world.WE'RE DRINKINGDavid: Sake OneDaniel: Ice AmericanoTerng: Santori Strong ZeroWE COVER:Malaysia My Second HomeNextUpAsia Facebook groupWhy invest in Malaysia, and how to enter MalaysiaMassively scaling Facebook group numbers Productivity tips for working early in the morning“Social engineering”Lyra the Shiba InuTony RobbinsProductivity tipsThe pomodoro technique1MDB scandalSYNC PRPiktochart123RFGrabPROMOTION:Listeners can get 10% of David's latest book, Everyday A**holes, using the promo code BOD at checkout. Dale Partridge is a social entrepreneur and founder of Sevenly.org and StartupCamp.com. Described as “a mind who feels the trends before market,” Partridge teaches leaders and organizations how to position their brand, love their people, and develop profitable corporate social responsibility programs. He’s a renowned expert on branding, consumer psychology, and marketplace trends. He is an avid speaker and has been featured in various business publications including the cover of Entrepreneur Magazine, Fox News, NBC, INC Magazine, Mashable, MSN Money, Forbes and the Los Angeles Times. Dale resides with his family in Bend, Oregon. Favorite Success Quote “Never get too busy making a living that you forget to make a life”~Dolly Parton Key Points 1. Accountability is Key On your path to becoming the best man that you can be, there are a couple of key ingredients that, if you are lacking, will cause you to fail miserably. One of those keys is accountability. You have to have strong men in your life who are willing to speak truth and push you to become your best self. Men who are willing to call you out on your weaknesses and affirm your strengths. Without a strong support system you will fail. It is essential to your success as a man, in business, marriage, and personal growth that you develop this accountability and stick to it. 2. Men Are Overly Courageous in Business and Fearful in Family A huge problem with men today is that they are courageous in business and timid in their family lives. They draw all of this satisfaction from succeeding on the front of business, making millions and achieving their dreams, that they forget to be good fathers, husbands, and sons. If you want to live up to your full potential as a man, you have to have a balance between both. You have to succeed in business so that you can provide for your family, but you also have to be willing to sacrifice a bigger paycheck to be the man that your family needs. 3. Build Generosity into Your Life One of the cornerstones of being a good man is being generous. If you want to live a life of purpose and fulfillment, build generosity into your life, don’t sprinkle it in as an afterthought. Give your time, money, and resources to charities that you believe in, be willing to listen to the homeless guy on the street, sit and have a conversation with someone in need. Be generous in all areas of your life and it will come back to you, but more importantly, at the end of the day when you meet your maker, you will have a clean conscience and a full heart.

Today, we talk about something we've never directly addressed on this podcast, God. Now, before you tune me out based on that word alone, I believe that regardless of what you believe, there is something to be learned in every conversation and every experience. That's why, when my friend, Dale Partridge reached out to talk about his new book, Saved From Success, I knew I needed to have him on. At the risk of losing a few listeners and receiving a few disapproving emails, I thought this was a conversation worth having. We talk about Dale's definition of success compared to much of society's, why men are hesitant to surrender to a higher power, how to develop a life of significance and meaning, and how all of us can be saved from success. SHOW HIGHLIGHTS How Dale defines success versus much of society Why men are hesitant to "surrender" to a higher power Specific money rules all men should learn to follow What does it mean to be "mature" and how to develop it Why we've become a culture where our youth are worshipped How a man begins to believe in God Where morality comes from Why the fear of death can be both a positive and negative Overcoming the "Gap of Integrity" How to develop a life of significance and meaning Why society views children as nothing more than a hindrance Becoming more influential, the right way What it truly means to be free DALE PARTRIDGE Today, I have the honor of introducing you to my friend and repeat guest, Dale Partridge. I had him on the show in June of last year to talk about turning your passion into your profession. About a month or so ago, he reached out to me regarding his new book and I thought it would make for an interesting conversation. For those of you who may not know, Dale is an extremely successful entrepreneur and the founder of Startup Camp, which teaches aspiring entrepreneurs the ropes when it comes to building businesses. I've been following him and his message for a long time and we've managed to build a friendship through our mutual work in calling men to step up to be men in their homes, their communities, their business, and every other facet of their lives. When bad things happen, Dale Partridge no longer questions them. Instead, he thinks: "What will I learn from this moment?" After numerous pivots, failures and unmanageable businesses growth early in his career, Dale began "to hold less tight to things. I'm more open-handed because of these moments." At one point his business was so successful, he couldn't grow fast enough to sustain it. On the outside he was successful and everyone was cheering him on. On the inside, he and his wife were experiencing panic attacks and a failing marriage. They knew they needed a change. He was asked to step down - and he now sees it is the best thing that could have happened. He and his wife moved from city life in California to a farm in Oregon. They've healed their marriage, grown their family and Dale has re-established a thriving, sustainable business. You will get so much from the vulnerability with which Dales shares about his personal, professional and faith walk. My main take aways: Sometimes, a company can grow faster than people can. You can tell someone's priorities by how they spend their time and money. 'Normal' & 'common' aren't the same. It's common to: Work 60 hours, have mediocre marriages and relationships with kids & eventually get a divorce because of these things. But it's not normal. Act with honor. We need more people who can say "follow my example." We look at division as a bad thing. Bringing people back to the truth is never bad. We're all leaders at some level. It's okay to not be a massive leader, to be a follower and embrace who you were made to be. Respect doesn't come from the job you have or the money you make it comes from the family and the life you build. Don't be so concerned with a house, a dream, that career. Focus on health, getting out of debt & building relationships that matter. On your deathbed, you'll think 'I wish I'd spent more time with my wife, had more kids, went on another vacation, not about work or money.' Whatever you are doing, wherever you are, remember time & relationship are what matter. Invest where you are going to get your best return. Sometimes it takes making money to realize you don't need it. Once your basic needs are met, money doesn't increase happiness. When we learn that maturity and growth are totally backwards, everything starts to make sense. Embarrassment is an incredible teacher. Stop talking & start listening: The fastest way to connect & show respect. Fix your thinking and you can fix anything. Learn more about Dale, his books, Startup Camp on his website. Follow Dale on Twitter & Facebook. Listen to John's interview on Dale's Startup Camp Podcast here. DALE PARTRIDGE'S LIVE INSPIRED 7 1. What is the best book you’ve ever read? Biographies about John Adams and David McCullough. I love biographies, they teach so much more than books about a topic. 2. Tomorrow you discover your wealthy uncle shockingly dies at the age of 103; leaving you millions. What would you do? There are charities we love, so some money would go there. Real estate seems to be the smartest decision (for investment). It buys you time. Then, as the opportunities roll in through life, you'll be able to say yes. 3. Your house is on fire, all living things and people are out. You have the opportunity to run in and grab one item. What would it be? I'm super nostaligic. I'd grab photos. I really value memory. 4. You are sitting on a bench overlooking a gorgeous beach. You have the opportunity to have a long conversation with anyone living or dead. Who would it be? John Adam. William Wilberforce. Abe Lincoln. I've read these folks biographies; they are people who paid a price for leadership. 5. What is the best advice you’ve ever received? From a placard my grandmother had. I have it on a mantel at my house now. Never get too busy making a living that you forget to make a life. 6. Looking back, what advice would you give yourself at age 20? Be slow to speak and quick to listen. 7. It’s been said that all great people can have their lives summed up in one sentence. How do you want yours to read? If you think wrong you'll never live strong. *** If you enjoyed today’s episode: Subscribe (automatically get new episodes), rate and review (help spread the word!) this podcast anywhere you get your podcasts.
