All people need to be restored to God. We're going to come up against people who seem impossible to save. Pastor Ricky points out that the passage about The Suffering Servant was put in the Bible for times like that, to show us all to have a heart that cares that everyone should come to Christ. Some people make us so angry, they mock us or mock Jesus but Jesus died for them too. He wants us to continue to love them regardless. If you win that soul for eternity your blessings will far outweigh the suffering.

When we're living in the world we can take on bad habits from the world. Separating ourselves into groups and subcultures, there are stigmas that go with any group. There's a class system that gets developed. The Samaritans coming to the Lord and becoming part of the fellowship of God shows us to break down those barriers. The Samaritans were thought of as lower than the Jews. The believers accepting them as just as good as they were, spoke volumes. Jesus died for us all, not just some.

It's as much a story about getting one's life together, as much as it is about recovery. Wertz returns to the show to discuss the book and the aspect of her life that informed it. Hosted on Acast. Dertil kommer en række udenlandske udgivelser: Kentaro Miuras klassiske Berserk, Taiyo Matsumotos nyklassiker Sunny, Julia Wertz' Impossible People - sæsonens bog? God sommer!!

As the topic of abortion rights is in the courts and in the press lately, one thing that we often miss is the question of what it actually means to have the choice of whether to obtain an abortion.  Aside from whether abortion is actually legal where you live, what other barriers may exist that may prevent someone from being able to choose abortion in the first place? What obstacles, such as cost, ability to physically get to a clinic, and social stigma, make it so that abortion is not a viable option for someone, even if they may want one? What if the reality is that many people do not have a real choice? Today on the podcast is Dr. Katrina Kimport, an associate professor at University of California, San Francisco's (UCSF) Advancing New Standards in Reproductive Health (ANSIRH). Her book, No Real Choice, looks at how abortion restrictions, class and racial disparities, cultural pressure, and other issues can make abortion impossible to choose - from the perspective of people who considered, but did not obtain an abortion.  On the podcast, Kimport will discuss the structural and social obstacles to abortion, as well as the cultural influences that try to dissuade people from choosing abortion. She discusses the often-overlooked experiences of people who make abortion-related decisions, and highlights who is denied reproductive choice and how. Politics, culture, and even evangelicals appear to be more and more polarized over key moral issues. Societal disruption and breakdown are present all around our country. However, we might forget that this past decade is not the only time that Americans have been divided. The 1960s counter-culture was also filled with confusion, chaos, and deep divisions. Os Guinness returned to the podcast to discuss the re-release of his book The Dust of Death: The Sixties Counterculture and How It Changed America Forever. Os shares the story behind the book including his time at L'Abri with Francis Schaeffer. We discussed his analysis of the sixties counterculture and his position that he calls Christian Realism. Co-Host Dr. Mark Goulston (https://mountaintoppodcast.com/crazy) My Guest Dr. Mark Goulston is a psychiatrist and the world's foremost expert in relational conflict management. He's the author of many NYT bestselling books, including Talking To Crazy: How to Deal with the Irrational and Impossible People in Your Life. Conventional wisdom on how to deal with irrational people is typically that you simply can't. But Mark will systematically dismantle that notion in this episode, offering truly genius ways to communicate with angry, unreasonable and even antagonistic people...even getting them to work WITH you instead of against you. Nowhere is this skill set more important than in our relationships with women, and Dr. Goulston does not disappoint. He brings solid strategies and practical steps to 'taming the shrew', and you'll likely be amazed by how so many of us as men tend to do the exact opposite of what works when arguing with women. Why does telling someone to 'calm down' always seem to make them even more upset? What is it about 'mansplaining' that drives women nuts? When exactly is a smile not what you should be hoping for? And what has Mark learned from years of couples counseling, suicide intervention and training hostage negotiators? Stay tuned until the end for a great story from Mark's single days...what happened when women on dates found out he was a psychiatrist? You'll emerge from this episode feeling more confident than ever anytime conflict arises with the woman in your life, or anyone else. Mark Goulston: Talking to Crazy Mark Goulston is a Founding Member of the Newsweek Expert Forum and a Marshall Goldsmith MG100 Coach, who works with founders, entrepreneurs and CEOs in dealing with and overcoming psychological and interpersonal obstacles to realizing their full potential. He is the host of the My Wakeup Call podcast and was a UCLA professor of psychiatry for more than twenty years and is also a former FBI hostage negotiation trainer. One of his many bestselling books is Talking to 'Crazy': How to Deal with the Irrational and Impossible People in Your Life*. In this conversation, Mark and I discuss some of the key principles that are effective in diffusing difficult or irrational behavioral. When that behavior is coming from someone who seems to be a know-it-all, we explore three steps that will help you guide them towards better behavior. Key Points In his book, Mark writes about know-it-alls: They don't say, “People think I'm a jerk, and I need to change my behavior.” Instead, they say, “People dislike me because they're stupid and incompetent.” This convinces the know-it-alls that they need to double down on quashing the spirits of their victims. If you treat people like they are nuts are you are not, they will just bite down deeper on their thinking. Lean into their irrationality to change the dynamic. Most people react to know-it-alls by becoming defensive or sullen. You're better to take to opposite approach. Start by genuinely recognizing the talents and know-it-all brings to the workplace. Lead a conversation about behavior change with them by first leading with a genuine compliment about their talents. Once that is established, describe how their actions are self-defeating in a way that reinforces the strength you've highlighted.

Dr. Goulston’s book, “Just Listen” Discover the Secret to Getting Through to Absolutely Anyone, went on to become the top book on listening in the world because it shows readers the secret to getting through to absolutely anyone (a.k.a. hack into) by listening. His first book, Get Out of Your Own Way: Overcoming Self-Defeating Behavior, published in 1996 has been in the top five “Self Help Books” at Amazon for 5 years. His new book, Talking to Crazy: How to Deal with the Irrational and Impossible People in Your Life has been described as “the Swiss Army Knife of self-improvement books!” by a NetGalley reviewer. Starting off as a clinical interventional psychiatrist and UCLA professor of psychiatry, he learned to “hack” into the minds of suicidal and potentially violent individuals to prevent acts of destruction to others or themselves. He next went on to train FBI and police hostage negotiators. He has since expanded his work to “Hacking Genius” and speaks and provides webinars internationally on: “Thinking Like Steve Jobs – How to Create ‘Gotta Have It.'” His company, The Goulston Group, is hired by Founders, CEO’s and Boards of Directors to help them create a “gotta have it!” response to their services and products (which seamlessly translates into “gonna buy/hire it,” a “gotta work there” response in outside talent they’re recruiting, a “gonna get it done” response from employees and a “gotta invest there” response in investors. The American republic is rife with conflicts, hostility, and incivility. Competing visions have led to a dangerous moment of cultural self-destruction.Yet the roots of the crisis are deeper than many realize. Os Guinness argues that we face a fundamental crisis of freedom, as America's genius for freedom has become her Achilles' heel. Our society's conflicts are rooted in two rival views of freedom, one embodied in "1776" and the ideals of the American Revolution, and the other in "1789" and the ideals of the French Revolution. Once again America has become a house divided, and Americans must make up their minds as to which freedom to follow. This grand treatment of history, civics, and ethics in the Jewish and Christian traditions represents Guinness's definitive exploration of the prospects for human freedom today. He calls for a national conversation on the nature of freedom and poses key questions for concerned citizens to consider. In the tradition of Alexis de Tocqueville, Guinness provides a visitor's careful observation of the American experiment. Discover here a stirring vision for faithful citizenship and renewed responsibility, not only for the nation but also the watching world.Os Guinness is the author of more than thirty books, including The Global Public Square, A Free People's Suicide, Renaissance, Fool's Talk, and Impossible People. Dr. Goulston also reflects on the 2016 presidential race and offers some suggestions as to how the Democratic Party can better fight back against Donald Trump's alpha male bullying behavior. In this week's episode Chauncey DeVega honors brother Malcolm X's birthday by sharing a New York Times editorial about his assassination. Unfortunately, Chauncey is also forced in the aftermath of the Sante Fe massacre by gun, to again, discuss how ammosexuals and other conservative gun fetishists are feeding America's children to the Gun God Moloch. On this week's show, Chauncey also peers into the right-wing hate sewer and its pit of defective women-hating "incels" who are debating if the Sante Fe mass murderer Dimitrios Pagourtzis was "too handsome" to be counted among their breed. Of course, Trump University is always is session. This week's topic? The newest revelations about how Trump's cabal was willing to take assistance from Saudi Arabia and the UAE as coordinated by a child molester to steal the 2016 presidential election and by doing so to undermine American democracy.

Dr. Mark Goulston is one of the most kind, interesting people I've ever met, so of course, I jumped on the opportunity to interview him.  His resume is extraordinary. He's been a crisis psychiatrist for 30 years, an FBI and police hostage negotiation trainer, UCLA professor of psychiatry for 25 years, authored & co-authored seven books including Amazon Best Sellers“Just Listen,”, Get Out of Your Own Way, and “Talking to Crazy: How to Deal with the Irrational and Impossible People in Your Life.”  But what strikes me most about Mark is that he is genuinely a "we" person. He is guided by what's best for the world, and his unique gift to it is knowing how to hack into people. Today on the podcast, Mark talks about how he was able to that as a suicide interventionist in the beginning of his career. Most recently, Mark has been hacking entrepreneurs and teaching them how create the, "gotta have it" feeling in their customers. He teaches these concepts in an entertaining, informative and extremely unique way- by embodying Steve Jobs.    Here are the four steps:  1. Whoa - I can't believe what I just saw, heard or read 2. Wow - That's astonishing, amazing, unbelievable 3. Hmmm -That's too good to ignore 4. Yes - I found out what I can do with it. Sold! While some individuals can follow through with New Year's resolutions, research shows that certain people are more susceptible to failure. The new year is a time when many people make promises to "do better" or "work harder."While some individuals can follow through with these resolutions, research shows that certain people are more susceptible to failure. For instance, people who don't like exercising or eating healthy and who may be in recovery from an addiction will fall off the wagon when they've had a close encounter with someone who gives them grief. Mark Goulston, MD, author of Talking to Crazy: How to Deal with the Irrational and Impossible People in Your Life, says there are ways to combat both the negative people and the tendency to fail. It's a very simple plan. Take a sheet of paper and put a line down the middle. On the left side, list the people who drain the life out of you. On the right side, list all the people who give you energy. Then, make a commitment for 30 days (and eventually for a lifetime) to minimize your exposure to the people on the left and maximize the time you spend with the people on the right. A key part of the success of this plan is to thank the people on the right. Dr. Goulston explains the three parts of a "power thank you." When you contact the recipient, take these steps:"You did this for me." (be specific)"You went out of your way."Explain what it personally means to you. Listen in as Dr. Goulston shares more ideas for keeping those resolutions and minimizing the negative people in your life.

Since you can't dis-invite a difficult relative or employee to your holiday party, what can you do?The holidays bring celebrations of all kinds, from family get-togethers to office parties.Unfortunately, there always seems to be one or two people who come with a negative attitude and are intent on bringing others down with them.Instead of putting up with their behavior this year, what are some tricks you can use to turn their frowns upside down?Mark Goulston, MD, author of Talking to Crazy: How to Deal with the Irrational and Impossible People in Your Life, joins hosts Andrea Donsky and Lisa Davis to share his expertise in the field of negotiationDr. Goulston says you can actually train these people to be positive. One tactic is to call them ahead of time (or, if you're a female, have a male call... men asking for help is often received better) and say something like, "I need your help with something. You're an important person. We don't know who of the other party attendees has been suffering throughout the year. We need you to be the person to welcome people, take their coats, get them a drink." Essentially, you are giving them a positive task. The worse they will come back with is, "I don't know if I can do that." What they're NOT going to say is, "I can't do that, I was planning on ruining the party!"Remember, difficult people often feel like the world has mistreated them, and being difficult is their way of saying "screw you!"Another thing to keep in mind, says Dr. Goulston, is that job burnout and stress are often caused by dealing with difficult people, not from too much work. You constantly have to put a lid on how you'd like to respond, which causes you even more stress. You certainly don't want to take that attitude into your office holiday party.Listen in as Dr. Goulston shares more tips for dealing with difficult people, as well as why they are so difficult in the first place.
