So we got our first TWO Parter in El Pochcast and it's looking at Spanish, Pochos hablando español, some of us speak it all the time, some of us now and then, and some of us rarely speak it if at all but we're all Pochos. And it's a two parter Because our language is a BIG Deal, we can't even form thoughts without language, it can be something unites us and something that separates us. Something that brings immense joy, and also intense pain. So speaking spanish, and what it means for pocho culture is a deep topic that could cover a million episodes but for now I'll just do two. The first part deals with the pochismo of using spanish when english won't do, and the second deals with the pochismo of not growing up fully speaking spanish. Both episodes feature the voices of pochos and pochas from all over the country and all different backgrounds Special thanks to: Dayna Muñiz, Raul Canales, Roberto Jose Andrade Franco, Brenda of Tamarindo Podcast(LISTEN TO TAMARINDO HERE), David Estrada, and Joyce for sharing their story with me/us. In this week's episode, both of our storytellers give us behind the scenes glimpses into why they do what they do. Part 1: While constantly staring at Mercury's craters for NASA's MESSENGER mission, a picture of the Galapagos Islands captures Paul Byrne's attention. Part 2: While serving in the navy to get his engineering degree, David Estrada is struck by the level of poverty he witnesses on the tiny island of East Timor. Paul Byrne received his undergraduate and graduate degrees in geology from Trinity College Dublin, Ireland. He was a postdoctoral fellow at the Carnegie Institution for Science in Washington, DC on NASA's MESSENGER mission, the first spacecraft to orbit the planet Mercury. He later joined the Lunar and Planetary Institute in Houston, Texas, and then moved to North Carolina State University as an assistant and then associate professor. He became Associate Professor of Earth and Planetary Sciences at Washington University in St. Louis in 2021. His research focuses on comparative planetology—comparing and contrasting the surfaces and interiors of planetary bodies, including Earth, to understand planetary phenomena generally. His research projects span the Solar System from Mercury to Pluto and, increasingly, to the study of extrasolar planets. He uses remotely sensed data, numerical and physical models, and fieldwork on Earth to understand why planets look the way they do. David Estrada is originally from Nampa, Idaho. From 1998 to 2004 he served in the United States Navy as an Electronics Warfare Technician/ Cryptologic Technician – Technical. David achieved the rank of Petty Officer First Class in 2003 before receiving an honorable discharge and returning to Idaho to pursue his undergraduate education at Boise State University (BSU) where he was a Ronald E. McNair scholar. After completing his Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from BSU in May of 2007, he began graduate studies at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC) under the direction of Professor Eric Pop. David received his Master of Science in Electrical Engineering from UIUC in 2009, and his Doctor of Philosophy in Electrical Engineering at UIUC in 2013. David then joined Prof. Rashid Bashir's Laboratory of Integrated Bio Medical Micro/Nanotechnology Applications as a Visiting Postdoctoral Researcher before moving to the Materials Science and Engineering Department at Boise State University. David is the recipient of the NSF and NDSEG Graduate Fellowships. His work has been recognized with several awards, including the Gregory Stillman, John Bardeen, and SHPE Innovator of the Year awards. His research interests are in the areas of emergent semiconductor nanomaterials and bionanotechnology. Learn more about your ad choices.

Caleb is currently an attorney with his own law practice in Dallas, Texas. He was born and raised in a small town in northwest Arkansas and grew up as an anxious, overachieving, closeted gay child in a conservative Christian environment. He attended the University of Arkansas where he earned his undergraduate degree and law degree as well as had his first experience with the power of therapy and coming out. Upon graduation in 2007, Caleb "officially" came out to his friends and family and moved to Dallas, Texas. Over the past 15 years, he's continued his mental health journey through traditional talk therapy, meditation, and yoga and has continued to build his professional career. Today, Caleb practices law in Dallas with a focus on estate planning, probate, and small business transactions. He's been with his husband David since 2015 and they have been married for two years. They currently live in the Oaklawn area with their two dogs, a cat, and too many plants to count. Both are small business owners and are active volunteers with Black Tie Dinner. In his hypothetical free time, Caleb prefers to spend his time outdoors, reading a good book, or watching anything superhero or science-fiction-related.

Anamaria Sayre | September 27, 2021 Silvana Estrada's angelic first note strikes, and for a moment her family's instrument workshop in Veracruz, Mexico, feels like a window to the heavens themselves. Adorned in a white dress and a radiant smile, the singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist invites us to participate in a rich and varied expression of familial love and musical brilliance. She wastes no time entrancing her audience, using a stripped-down performance of "Un Día Cualquiera" — accompanied by nothing but soft claps and subtle harmonies — to showcase her impeccable vocal precision and range. After a sweet "Bienvenidos," Estrada picks up the Venezuelan cuatro — her most beloved magic-making tool — and jumps into a sublimely arranged, effortlessly enchanting rendition of "Tristeza." Then, halfway through "Te Guardo," something extraordinary happens: the sound of stringed instruments comes out of nowhere, and as Estrada steps away from her microphone, the camera follows, exposing a string quartet set up just off screen. After that moving reveal, Estrada takes a seat and begins to perform "Marchita," where strings, cuatro, and voice marry in indiscernible harmony. Shifting scenes once again, Estrada moves outside and we meet her papa, armed with a double bass. Father and daughter conjure a musical manifestation of pure love with a stunning performance of "Tonada De Ordeño [El Ordeñador]." Though the traditional Venezuelan tune is a longtime favorite, this performance is different. A butterfly takes a seat on Silvana's mic and the camera zooms out to reveal the other instrumentalists in the workshop looking on in knowing admiration. Silvana's voice reverberates across the Veracruz hillside and the world exhales, basking in a fleeting moment of divinity on earth. Our guest in this episode is simply one of our favorite human beings, but he's also an outstanding player for New Mexico United in the USL Championship's Western Conference. We speak to David Estrada about his life growing up in Salinas, California, his journey to play collegiate soccer at UCLA, his pro career which began in the MLS with the Seattle Sounders and finds him now on his current assignment in New Mexico. We also learn about experiences that shaped his strong sense of service and community, and talk about the things he's doing currently in Albuquerque to affect positive change. The internet wasn't terribly kind to us in the recording of this episode, so please excuse the sound quality on this one. That said, it didn't in any way dampen the inspiration we felt after speaking with David Estrada during the recording of this episode. We hope you enjoy.
David Estrada, Chief Legal Officer at Nuro, joins host Grayson Brulte to discuss the leading factors of the mobility revolution. David kicks off by sharing the familial inspiration that shaped his well-rounded perspective. The two dive right in to how mobility has changed over the past two years and the role that tech companies’ heavy investment in self-driving cars will shape the future. David then shares his perspective on how an elected official’s first impression of riding in an AV compared to his own. Grayson and David dig into how the vision of Larry Page at Google pushed investment and development into AV. David then shares insights on driving behaviors and what kinds of trips can be replaced by AVs. The two look at what’s next for Nuro’s AV delivery services, why Houston as the ideal test market for AV delivery services, the benefits of Nuro’s vehicles and the greatest challenges for scaling services. The AV conversation shifts to why SAE Level 2 automated systems will eventually become commonplace in future vehicles. And finally, “Tomorrow Man” offers his insights on flying cars and the challenges that urban air/eVTOL must overcome to increase widespread adoption and development in major cities worldwide. Dennis goes to the Music Hall Theater in Beverly Hills for the L.A. premier of the new documentary about the same-sex ballroom dance scene called "Hot to Trot." Before the lights go down, he chats with the film's director Gail Freedman and two of the primary dancers featured in the film, NY-based Ernesto Palma and San Francisco-based Emily Coles. After the film, Dennis talks with dancer David Estrada who also appears in the film and how the mainstream American ballroom world seems to be going backwards in terms of same-sex partnerships. Other topics that come up in the interviews: on stage mishaps, getting over our own hangups about gender in dance and how this film speaks to this specific moment. (Apologies in advance for the uneven sound...the interviews were conducted in the bustling theater lobby) www.hottotrotfilm.com
In the seventh episode of "Winging It With Zakuani", Steve breaks down the game against Montreal, the red card and sits down with former Sounder and current S2 player David Estrada.
"King" David Estrada [ @estradaisking ] is a Professional Boxer & Trainer. David talks about his first fight on Pay Per View against Sugar Shane Mosley, the Andre Berto fight, being the last Boxer trained by Legendary Boxing Trainer Angelo Dundee & the words of wisdom he gave him and calls out a particular Boxer for a fight! We play "Um...So..." over some Zacapa Guatemalan Rum.
Adam is back from his scouting trip to Alaska, and Filibuster is back in your ears. We start off by talking all things D.C. United preseason trialists: Andrew Driver and David Estrada, Rocket Rod Dyachenko, the center backs (Futty Danso, Rauwshawn McKenzie, and Sean St Ledger), and the goalkeeping trialists that are Diego Restrepo, Richard McCallum, and Riccardo Anedda. We then talk about injuries suffered this season (Eddie Johnson and Michael Seaton) and at the end of last season (Luis Silva, Chris Rolfe, Andrew Dykstra, and Conor Doyle). It could be an interesting forward pairing to start the year if these players don't start getting health (but most of them are doing so). When then talk about Perry Kitchen, Steve Birnbaum, and the USMNT's Camp Cupcake. They play Chile tonight, and they may do so in a strange formation. Is Jurgen Klinsmann actually just Tom Soehn? Finally, we introduce a new segment entitled "Metro Offseason Failure" before taking some of your Twitterbox questions. Give it a listen!
It has been a month since our last episode but in #7 we get you caught up with the last few games of May and then preview the upcoming games against Montreal and Kansas City. Toronto FC took a gamble leaving off De Guzman, Koevermans and Morgan, and with their anchor and top player Torsten Frings going down early on, it meant TFC just didn't have the horses to compete with a side like the Seattle Sounders. A David Estrada hat-trick sunk the Reds and once again raises concerns over a back line that doesn't look like it can compete without a sweeper to clean things up. Toronto will have a week to recover and try to get things right before hosting San Jose in their home-opener next weekend.
