Ever battled a formidable foe? I have, and it's called COVID-19. Through my journey of recovery, you'll experience the realness of this virus. Then, bask in the sounds of soca music as we celebrate the queen of this genre - Destra. Her unforgettable performance at a recent event, and the heartbreaking loss of Denise Plummer, another influential figure in Caribbean music, call us to honor these icons and guide the younger generation in appreciating their contributions. Ever wondered what lies in the heart of Miami? Join me on a trip that led to a newfound appreciation for traveling, the cocoa industry in Trinidad and Tobago, and some intriguing spots like the Wyndwood Walls and Vizcaya Museum. But that's not all - we'll delve into the Caribbean Music Awards, critiquing the lack of recognition for Chutney Soka artists and saluting those who made their mark. Now, let's dig deeper and explore societal issues like gender roles, victim-blaming, and the need for unity and community. Drawing on personal experiences and incidents, we'll observe their impacts and question some recent controversies including the Soca Warriors national soccer team and the unexpected retirement of Kevin Molino. As we wrap up, let's reflect on the challenges we've faced and our commitment to our country, setting the stage for a fresh perspective on life. Join us, and let's elevate the conversation.

The Mane Land: for Orlando City SC fans

Orlando City is in a bit of a scoring drought but the defense has been stout so at least the Lions are able to get something even when held without a goal. The draw against Miami isn't what the Lions or their fans wanted, especially in a match that saw the team awarded a penalty, but the return of El Pulpo and a strong match from the back line helped secure a point in a scoreless draw at home on Saturday. We break down the game and make our Man of the Match selections. The Pride, however, went on the road and rebounded nicely from their loss against the Spirit, beating NJ/NY Gotham FC 1-0 at Red Bull Arena in New Jersey. Erik Tymrak was the offensive hero and once again Ashlyn Harris did everything you could possibly ask from your goalkeeper. Not only did Harris pick up the clean sheet, but she also walked off the field with the league's all-time career saves record. Becky Burleigh has the team playing hard even if the Pride — like the Lions — aren't putting many shots in the net. We then turned our attention to Saturday night's Orlando City match-up against the Columbus Crew. To help us do that, we spoke with Orri Benatar from Massive Report, who helped us understand what's been going on in Central Ohio with the defending MLS Cup champs and we're all saddened at Kevin Molino facing yet another torn ACL. Big thanks to Orri for stopping by, especially since he had basically 20 minutes notice because I suck at lining up guests in advance. After a little bit of MLS All-Star Game discussion, we jumped into this week's mailbag, which asked about Orlando City's best XI and the epic way Manchester United swooped in to steal Cristiano Ronaldo from archrival Man City. If there's anything — and we do mean anything — you want us to address on the next show, just ask by tweeting it to us at @TheManeLand with the hashtag #AskTMLPC. We close the show with our key match-ups and score predictions for Orlando City vs. the Columbus Crew. That's all for this week. Stay safe and enjoy the show! Here's how No. 261 went down: 0:15 - Orlando City ran its unbeaten streak to six matches and the Pride got back in the win column in an important road contest. 41:50 - Orri Benatar jumps in to give us the lowdown on the Columbus Crew, who have dealt with a similar rash of injuries and call-ups to what Orlando has dealt with in 2021. 1:03:44 - All-Star festivities, some listener mail, and our predictions for the Lions and the Crew. As we move through December, there’s still plenty of soccer news to discuss, and we start this show with a discussion of Chris Mueller’s outstanding USMNT debut against El Salvador last week. Cash showed he belonged in the discussion to be in the player pool and that his first big moment wasn’t too big for him. We also discuss the MLS Expansion Draft and Orlando City losing defender Kamal Miller, who then got swapped to Montreal for a bunch of Garber Bucks and a first-round draft pick. The Concacaf Champions League is back underway and now it’s at Exploria Stadium, so we talked about the first two quarterfinal matches that took place Tuesday night, Homegrown goalkeeper Mason Stajduhar’s short loan spell with New York City FC, and NYFC’s new habit of getting knocked out of competitions while in the city of Orlando. The Florida Cup is still on for 2021 but the dates will change. We’ll keep you up to date when new dates are available. Orlando City has a new eMLS player for 2021. Do we care? Well, Dave and I don’t really pay much attention to that kind of thing but if you’re into that, well, now you’ve got a new champion. We give our kudos to OCSC for being among the Class of 2020 for the Best Employers in Sports, too, plus OCB and Orlando Pride players have gotten national team call-ups. Our mailbag is overflowing this week, and we discuss Kevin Molino’s availability now that he’s leaving Minnesota, plus some questions about the Pride, podcasting, and even college football. If there’s anything — and we do mean anything —you want us to address on our next show, just ask by tweeting it to us at @TheManeLand with the hashtag #AskTMLPC. That’s all for this week. Stay safe and enjoy the show! Here’s how show No. 227 went down: 0:15 - The Money Badger is having himself a year, and now USMNT Head Coach Gregg Berhalter has to put him on speed dial. Also, we’ll miss Kamal Miller now that he’s off to Montreal. 27:28 - Lots of miscellaneous news, including Florida Cup, a new eMLS player for Orlando, call-ups, and more. 48:55 - The mailbag has us going off on several tangents. We would be lying if we said we predicted this at the start of the MLS is Back Tournament. Orlando City is through to the final after beating Minnesota United 3-1 last week. The team finally got to beat the Loons and former Lions gaffer Adrian Heath, even though Kevin Molino’s assist made things a bit uneasy near the end. We’re here to break down the win over Minnesota and give you our Man of the Match selections. The Lions have several players up for post-tournament awards and we’ll tell you all about that. We also talk about “phase one” of the return of Major League Soccer’s regular season, as we now know six more of Orlando City’s 2020 opponents and when those games will happen. Eddy Prugh from Stumptown Footy joins us to discuss the Portland Timbers and what we can expect from them, as well as how Orlando City should attack them and what match-ups could decide the game. Big thanks to Eddy for lending us his expertise on the Timbers. This week’s Pride news includes more player loans and Ali Krieger’s side gig on the Orlando City broadcast team. Our OCB minute runs long because the Young Lions went out and got a road win at New England Revolution II. OCB’s Moises Tablante, Wilfredo Rivera, and Austin Aviza led the way to the team improving to .500 at 1-1-0. This week’s mailbag features questions about beer, James Bond movies, and more. If there’s anything — and we do mean anything —you want us to address on our next show, just ask by tweeting it to us at @TheManeLand with the hashtag #AskTMLPC. Finally, we finish off the show with our key match-ups and score predictions for OCSC vs. the Portland Timbers. That’s all for this week. We’ll be back to recap Orlando City vs. the Timbers. Stay safe and enjoy the show! Here’s how show No. 209 went down: 0:16 - Orlando City is in the final against Portland thanks to a thrilling 3-1 win over Minnesota United. We break down the team’s first win over the Loons (and Adrian Heath). Plus, Man of the Match, the regular season restart, and MLS is Back award finalists. 44:56 - Eddy Prugh jumps on board to give us the lowdown on the Portland Timbers. He’s very high on Nani and Chris Mueller. 1:05:27 - Pride news, OCB’s win at New England, our mailbag, and our key match-ups and score predictions for Orlando City vs. the Portland Timbers! We were more than happy to be wrong about our 3-1 predictions of LAFC beating Orlando City. Call it “taking one for the team,” if you will. What we were even happier about was watching history unfold as the Lions knocked out the mighty west coast juggernaut in penalties after squandering the chance to do it in regulation. The Lions were even the better side for all but about 15 minutes of normal time, but the missed penalty and quick LAFC goal made us all squeamish until Joao Moutinho’s perfect header sent the game to spot kicks. Dave and I break down the thriller — a name that applies to this match more than most 1-1 draws — and give you our Man of the Match selections. We also give you the latest on Dom Dwyer and touch on whether we think he’ll be back in purple again and whether Orlando will sign anyone to replace him for the rest of 2020. Oh, and the MLS regular season might be starting back up shortly after the MLS is Back Tournament wraps up. Eli Hoff from E Pluribus Loonum joined us to give us the Minnesota United perspective of Thursday’s semifinal match-up against the Lions. We talked about old friends Adrian Heath and Kevin Molino a bit and find out what weaknesses Orlando City can exploit. Thanks to Eli for joining us. On the women’s side, the NWSL will reportedly be returning to training in home markets Aug. 7 and potentially playing friendlies or four-team tournaments or some other kind of competition. The Pride’s Carson Pickett helped design a Nike cleat and there’s a new Alex Morgan Barbie doll in the company’s “role model” series. OCB is back in action and the result was familiar even if the performance looked a bit more organized than the 2019 version of the Young Lions. It was OCB’s first game and Tormenta FC’s third, so you’d expect the more veteran Georgia side to be a bit further along in their 2020 trajectory, but there were some positives for the Young Lions. This week’s mailbag features questions about Dwyer, where the LAFC result stacks up, and more. If there’s anything — and we do mean anything —you want us to address on our next show, just ask by tweeting it to us at @TheManeLand with the hashtag #AskTMLPC. Finally, we finish off the show with our key match-ups and score predictions for OCSC vs. Minnesota United. That’s all for this week, but it’s another gigantic show. We’ll be back next week to recap Orlando City vs. the Loons. Stay safe and enjoy the show! Here’s how show No. 208 went down: 0:16 - Orlando City’s 1-1 draw and 5-4 penalty shootout win over LAFC was almost everything we could hope for and the Lions move on. We tell you how they did it. 1:00:02 - Eli Hoff jumps on and gives us the news out of the Minnesota United camp to let us know what to expect on Thursday. 1:23:17 - NWSL news and notes, OCB’s first match of 2020, our mailbag, and our key match-ups and score predictions for Orlando City vs. Minnesota United! Let’s skip all the nonsense about winless streaks and just get to the good stuff right up front: Scott Sutter interview! The veteran Swiss-English defender was kind enough to stop by to chat with us about his transition to MLS, how he’s dealing with the team’s current run of form, mentoring young players, dealing with the Florida heat, and plenty more. Sure, we’ve got to talk about the club’s MLS, NWSL, and USL losses on Saturday night. But if you didn’t go through a few losses and suffer a little adversity, the wins wouldn’t taste as sweet, now, would they? OK, maybe we’d like to find out if that’s true. Anyway, let’s just say that we could use a change of fortunes. We’re also previewing D.C. United and the Chicago Fire. The Pride are finally coming home. OCB finally has a somewhat normal schedule. Things could be starting to turn around. Whether they do or not, we’ll be here to yammer about it. Here’s how the pod unfolded: 0:12- Orlando City lost to ex-coach Adrian Heath despite the absence of Kevin Molino. We might as well talk about it. Was it a deserved result? Does ‘deserve’ have anything to do with soccer? Maybe not. Let’s move on. 26:25- The Pride scored first but gave up two straight to fall on the road against Sky Blue FC. But at least they get to play some home games soon. 32:40- OCB took a page out of the Pride’s book by scoring first and having the points slip away. 37:55- Scott Sutter likes to golf in his spare time, so he certainly came to the right place. We’re also here to discuss the Orlando Pride, who are suddenly unbeaten in three straight (1-0-2) after a huge away draw at Seattle Reign FC. The point came at a cost, however, as Ashlyn Harris has been lost for two months due to injury. We’ve got to break down the Lions’ first trip to face the Loons this weekend and Adrian Heath’s tendency to invade the pitch during games. Here to help us do that is our friend Nate Siems from SB Nation’s Minnesota United blog, E Pluribus Loonum — which I named (seriously, I really did). It’s another super-sized show and you get it at no extra cost, and in fact no cost whatsoever. Orlando City’s season is over — again without a playoff appearance — which is a bummer, but at least the Lions sent us off with back-to-back wins over Eastern Conference playoff teams. There were some tough moments this season but it feels like the club went out on a good run and may possibly have built some momentum heading into 2017. We’re here to break down the 4-2 win over D.C. United, give you our Man of the Match, and talk about some of the finest midfield play we’ve seen all season from the Lions. Kaká, Kevin Molino, Cristian Higuita, and Antonio Nocerino were certainly in the mood on Sunday. We also talk about the recent roster moves by the Orlando Pride and whether they really mean a whole lot in the grand scheme of the NWSL’s player mechanisms. Kristen Edmonds got her first USWNT call-up so the Pride must have opened some eyes with their play this season. Finally, we break down the entire Orlando City roster as we play “should he stay or should he go?” with everyone on a senior team contract. We also wax rhapsodic about the team-wide beauty that was the first goal, talk about the United players on the team of the week, and try to ask whether or not this is a new version of Bennyball. We then talk about United's last game of the season, the rematch against Orlando City SC. We ponder whether they will be more threatening with nothing for which to play, and discuss the young players who have spots on next year's team in mind. It’s been a long time since Orlando City enjoyed a two-game winning streak and so we’re going to enjoy this one for as long as we can, even though we’ve got a trip to play the LA Galaxy coming up this weekend. That trip was made all the more difficult with this week’s announcement that Landon Donovan is returning from retirement to help the Galaxy the rest of this season. He’ll reportedly be available for selection on Sunday too, which has us pretty terrified, even if only because of the emotional lift he’ll give LA. We break down Donovan’s return and give our key match-ups and score predictions for Sunday’s game. But before that, we’ve got a lot to talk about. We give a complete blow-by-blow breakdown of Orlando City’s unbelievable 4-1 win at Montreal and the tour de force performance by substitute striker Carlos Rivas. Goals, penalties, sendings off and even an indirect free kick in the penalty area. This game had it all and we are happy to chat about it. We also discuss the Orlando Pride’s 1-1 draw at Sky Blue FC and the very pointed comments by Ashlyn Harris about her teammates in the wake of that disappointing result, in which Alex Morgan had staked the Pride to a 1-0 lead. Then we get into the free falling OCB and discuss whether they can hold onto that last USL Eastern Conference playoff spot. It’s going to be tough. It's been a minute since we've been able to celebrate Orlando City winning all three points with you, constant listener, but we get to do just that this week after the Lions dispatched New York City FC, 2-1, over the weekend. Forgive us if we go in-depth into the match. We didn't have a guest this week and still gave you more than an hour of our takes on the Lions and their continued mastery of their fellow 2015 expansion club.  We also talked Orlando Pride, who unfortunately saw the wrong end of a 2-1 score line at home against the Washington Spirit last Friday night. Not all of the Olympians have returned yet, and the Pride attack was a bit toothless against the NWSL's top club. The playoffs are a remote dream now for the Pride but Tom Sermanni is bringing in reinforcements anyway, in the form of forward Lisa De Vanna and defender McKenzie Berryhill.  And we're also talking Orlando City B, the club's only team that is currently above the playoff line. Can OCB maintain the spot with just one home game remaining in the last five matches? The young Lions' form hasn't been great since Tony Rocha and Mikey Ambrose were promoted to the senior squad, and things won't be easy with Pierre Da Silva on international duty. We've got your complete breakdown of the 1-1 draw at Camping World Stadium Friday night with Kevin Molino playing the hero, Cristian Higuita getting a red card, and Adrian Heath getting a midweek suspension that will see him banned for Sunday's match at Sporting Kansas City. We also break down Orlando Pride's impressive 2-0 win over Seattle Reign on Mother's Day. The team looks to be coming together and did a great job of shutting down one of the league's top teams. This week, we're looking ahead -- way ahead. Eric Quintana of Dirty South Soccer and the Mouths of the South podcast joins us to discuss the mood surrounding Atlanta United FC as the club prepares to join Major League Soccer. Eric has a lot of things to say about the excitement in Atlanta, the budding rivalry with Orlando City, and more. And what would a PawedCast be without our key match-ups and score predictions? Well, it would be a PawedCast, I guess. Here's what happened: 0:12- Red Bulls rewind, a red card, stupidity by DisCo, our MotM and the Pride's big win. 34:45- Eric Quintana on "scarfgate," lots of season ticket sales in Atlanta and more. 1:02:51- Who wins on Sunday and by how much? We predict, which is always dangerous! Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

After a week off due to my inconvenient gallbladder removal surgery, we are back -- and in a big way. Episode 41 of the PawedCast celebrates the opening of Orlando Pride's preseason training camp with an exclusive interview with midfielder and England international Lianne Sanderson.  Lianne was kind enough to take time out of her busy preseason to discuss the early days of the club's inaugural NWSL camp, her role with the team, how important the quality of life is in determining where she plays soccer, and much more. The Pride is in good hands with leaders like her.  But, since we missed last week, there's plenty for us to talk about. We break down the good, bad, and ugly about both the Real Salt Lake and Chicago Fire games for Orlando City, and we give you our Man of the Match for both. In a weird cosmic coincidence, we were unanimous in our choice for both matches. Plus, we discuss the early season performances of Antonio Nocerino, Kevin Molino, the Orlando City back line and more. And of course, we cannot leave without giving you the key match-ups and score predictions for Friday's trip to Yankee Stadium to take on New York City FC. Here's how the show went down: 0:12- Two games, two draws, two Cyle Larin goals. What went right and wrong and how much blame should be heaped on Seb Hines or Joe Bendik? Plus, David Accam is really, really fast. 33:13- Lianne Sanderson joins us and we get to know one of Orlando Pride's veteran players.  49:25- Our key match-ups for Friday night's game between OCSC and NYCFC, including our laughably wrong score predictions. That's it for another week. We'll be back to break down the New York City match and look ahead to Portland. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

We've got a lot of ground to cover with two games to discuss since our last PawedCast and not one, but two special guests!  Michael and Andrew dissect the home loss to Toronto FC a couple weeks back, as well as the friendly win over Brazil's Ponte Preta. The pivotal moments of both games are discussed, including the horrible knee injury Kevin Molino sustained and Brek Shea returning to the midfield. And goals! At home! It really happened last weekend. But the star of this show is Orlando City goalkeeper Earl Edwards Jr., who stops by to give us the skinny on being a Lions keeper, a rookie in MLS and what it's like to be on this team. Plus, he dishes on the best shots on the team. We also preview the New England Revolution and here to help with that is Steve Stoehr from The Bent Musket blog. Steve goes into great detail about all the ways the Revs can hurt us. But he also tells us who New England fans secretly fear. And we give you our always wrong predictions. 0:26- Michael and Andrew break down the Toronto FC loss and the Ponte Preta victory and look at life after Molino. 17:36- Steve Stoehr jumps on to give us the lowdown on the Eastern Conference leaders from New England. Hey, they're scared of Kaká! 38:29- Orlando City's Earl Edwards Jr. tells us about life as a young goalkeeper in Major League Soccer. 52:48- Final thoughts and our horribawful score predictions!
