This week, I had a moment. Okay.... a full-on meltdown. But underneath it, I realized something powerful: I've been trying to launch my book, The Selfish Year, like a good girl. Strategic. Palatable. The 'right' way. So I threw it all in the fire. And from the ashes? Selfish Summer Camp was born. Because I'm going to do this my way and just like Sinatra, baby, we're all learning this together. In this episode I'm sharing how a late-night breakdown turned into the most fun, honest, unapologetic pre-order campaign I've ever created. This isn't just a book launch. It's a fequency, a summer, a movement. Pre-order The Selfish Year now and register for camp! P.S. Want secret stories, whispered truths, and behind the scenes moments I'm not sharing anywhere else? Krystyna Houser is the Founder of mBIOTA Labs, a company that develops effective and tolerable elemental diets and medical foods for treating gastrointestinal disorders such as IBS, IBD, SIBO, IMO, and Crohn's disease. While short-term liquid elemental diets have been used in the past to treat GI conditions, the formulation has been very unpalatable, resulting in high patient non-compliance. The mBIOTA clinical trials have shown the elemental diet to be more effective than antibiotics in allowing the gut to recover. Krystyna explains, "After battling my own GI issues and successfully treating them through a combination of an elemental diet and a dietary protocol called low-fermentation eating, I became a believer in the power of functional nutrition and built mBIOTA Labs to bring these solutions along with taste and a pleasant experience to millions of people suffering with GI conditions." "Elemental diets have been around for over 50 years. And through hundreds of clinical studies, elemental diets have been proven highly effective at managing various GI conditions. But until now, physicians were unable to employ them in treatment for fear of noncompliance due to their horrible taste. mBIOTA Elemental changes the game with its truly palatable formula. An elemental diet is a short-term liquid diet that provides comprehensive nutrition in its purest, most elemental form. It's composed of proteins, fats, and carbohydrates." "Our formula is designed as a two- to four-week course of orally ingested therapy. Once ingested, it is easily absorbed into the first two to four feet of the small intestine with almost no digestive effort, which allows the gut to reset, recover, and starve off excess bacteria, causing distress and inflammation. Because the diet is so balanced, it is much easier and safer to follow than a juice cleanse or other diets. And after a few days or so, people feel fantastic on mBIOTA and crave it." #mBIOTA #SIBO #GIHealth #MedicalFood #ElementalDiets #ClinicalTrial mbiota.com Listen to the podcast here

After 35 years of dominating grade school cafeteria lunchtime, that yellow box filled with hyper-palatable foods is getting “remixed” by the creator packaged goods movement. For those that are living under a rock and didn't see the product announcement from a few weeks ago, Lunchly is a kid-friendly meal kit that's positioned as a better-for-you competitor to Lunchables. Now…there's already several other better-for-you Lunchables competitors in market, but what makes this one noteworthy is that it's a joint venture between two creator packaged goods brands. Lunchly was a collaboration between PRIME (the beverage brand backed by Logan Paul and KSI) and Feastables (the chocolate brand created by MrBeast). To be completely honest, this is a wild move. So, each box of Lunchly will include a miniature Feastables bar and bottle of PRIME Hydration. Lunchables created line extensions with Snickers, Reese's Peanut Butter Cups, Kool-Aid, and Capri Sun…but we're talking about two creator packaged goods brands that are co-creating a new “more perishable” product that also sees them both entering a new grocery retail section. So, then the question likely turns to why? Similar to when Lunchables was being developed in the 1980s, there's maybe the obvious and not so obvious answer. Based on the marketing angle taken thus far, the obvious answer is that Lunchly saw a market opportunity that paired all the previous (and still strong) Lunchables value propositions for parents (like convenience/value) and kids (like wanting to be cool in the school cafeteria), with these better-for-you product attributes. Regardless, Lunchables was actually created to solve a bologna oversupply (and popularity) problem for Oscar Meyer. And though I don't think anyone involved with Lunchly intentionally created this historical “remix,” PRIME is facing similar oversupply (and popularity) problems right now. According to recent NielsenIQ data reports, PRIME volume has been falling by somewhere around 30% YoY for much of this calendar year. But more interesting to the Lunchables connection is that PRIME has been the target of recent litigation from its supply chain partners…with lawsuits alleging dedicated contract manufacturing capacity investments left unutilized and coconut ingredients contracts cancelled. Additionally, my latest first principles thinking content will explore the historical connections between U.S. food companies by tobacco giants, how Phillip Morris (now Altria) were masters at engineering products to make consumers return for more, and how those hyper-palatable foods are now approved by the U.S. government (USDA) to be included within the National School Lunch Program. The effect of extended access to highly palatable foods on hunger, cravings, satiety, etc. It's good news! Study is here: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/p... Weight gain increased strikingly in rats with extended access to the cafeteria diet compared to the chow-only or restricted access groups (Fig. 1a). Weight gain also tended to be increased in the restricted access rats compared to chow-only rats, but this effect did not reach statistical significance. The development of obesity in extended access rats was closely associated with a worsening deficit in brain reward function, reflected in progressively elevated BSR thresholds
This week, answering an online dating ad takes our hosts on a walk to the dog park in Must Love Dogs (2005), starring Diane Lane and John Cusack. Much to Madison's surprise, Chelsea seemed to enjoy this flick, and even more shocking, she didn't request a queer rewrite! (Although, it absolutely needed more dogs!) Featuring cameos from Dermot Mulroney, Stockard Channing, and Madison's sexual awakening, Christopher Plummer (who tore apart no fascist icons but was charming nonetheless), this one's a howling good time. What I am determined to stamp out is this idea of being a “likeable” as a Black woman. The RIGHT kind of Black woman not only DOES NOT EXIST, there is no way to exactly REMAIN her if you ARE her (which I assure you, you not sis). Note: I misspoke; her name is PEARL MOORE. Pearl Moore of Francis Marion has the overall women's record with 4,061 points from 1975-79 at the small-college level in the AIAW. Moore had 177 points at Anderson Junior College before enrolling at Francis Marion. This was BEFORE those records were incorporated into the NCAA.

Hellooo, and welcome to Season 10 of Mads World! You're about to listen to Illuminating Identities: Personal Growth & Palatable Representation with Kath Ebbs! This week I am joined by queer actor, presenter, writer and Australian ICON, Kath Ebbs. With over 75,000 followers on Instagram, their work focuses on visibility and advocacy with storytelling at its heart.Arguably one of the original Instagram influencers, Kath grew their online following through meme culture as part of one of the first content collectives and has continued to foster that community whilst harnessing the power of new-age advertising. They have partnered with brands such as Nike, Bonds, The Iconic and SBS to name a few, having most recently starred in Nike's global campaign for the Women's World Cup. Kath is also the co-creator and star of their own TikTok web series titled Self Care, which follows the fictional character of Grace on their journey of self-discovery after dealing with a sudden breakup. In 2022 Kath graced Aussie TV screens as Asher on Neighbours, the first non-binary character ever to appear on an Aussie soap. When speaking to Variety, they said: “If just one child that is struggling with their gender identity sees Asher on screen and feels as though their feelings are valid and okay and accepted – and not only accepted but celebrated – or a parent seeing Asher becomes more accepting of their child or kids at school, that would be a huge achievement and success point for me.” In addition to being a regular panelist on ABC's The Drum, they are also the producer and host of their own online talk show titled Conversations with Kath, where they sit down to have hard, soft and sometimes silly conversations with diverse guests on a variety of topics. This has expanded into a podcast allowing Kath to bring some of their life experiences to the table. In this episode, we talk about self-discovery, identity, personal growth, gender representation and the media, tokenism and palatable representation, the importance and value of community, self-care, inclusivity and so much more.Click here to find Mads World social media, submit questions to the website, or buy me a coffee.Cover Art: VeredienMusic: The.Jones.Project_93Support this show http://supporter.acast.com/mads-world. Lead Story: US tobacco companies selectively disseminated hyper-palatable foods into the US food system: Empirical evidence and current implications Addiction Hyper-palatable foods (HPF) contain fat and sodium, fat and simple sugars, and carbohydrate and sodium at specific thresholds to induce hyperpalatability, creating an artificially rewarding experience. This study compared tobacco companies who owned food companies to food companies not owned by tobacco companies, with regard to hyperpalatability between 1988 and 2001. Upon review of industry documents, this study found that tobacco companies “selectively disseminated” HPF into the US market. Tobacco-owned foods were 29% more likely to be classified as fat and sodium HPF and 80% more likely to be classified as carbohydrate and sodium HPF than foods that were not tobacco-owned. As late as 2018, market saturation of fat and sodium HPF was close to 60% and carbohydrate and sodium HPF was almost 20% regardless of tobacco ownership. Further research should consider the links between industries to appreciate potential impact on public health. Read this issue of the ASAM Weekly Subscribe to the ASAM Weekly Visit ASAM

The world's taught us there's only two types of women..."The one you'd wife".And..."The one you'd fuck".The homemaker.And...The whore. The 'good girl'.And...The slut. And, as women we're conditioned to think we've got to fit in one of these boxes.Usually we choose the 'good girl'.Because, well…are we really given any other fucking choice? Our society demonises the s.xually ALIVE woman (a.k.a. the whore). Our society makes us believe that a woman rippling with Eros is NOT a respectable woman.BEING HER DOES NOT FEEL SAFE!
EPISODE 1665: In this KEEN ON show, Andrew talks to Robert D. Kaplan, author of THE LOOM OF TIME, about why Singapore offers a palatable political model for countries in the "Greater Middle East" ROBERT D. KAPLAN is the bestselling author of twenty-two books on foreign affairs and travel translated into many languages, including The Loom of Time, The Tragic Mind, Adriatic, The Good American, The Coming Anarchy, Balkan Ghosts, Asia's Cauldron, and The Revenge of Geography. He holds the Robert Strausz-Hupé Chair in Geopolitics at the Foreign Policy Research Institute. For three decades he reported on foreign affairs for The Atlantic. A senior adviser at Eurasia Group, he was chief geopolitical analyst at Stratfor, a visiting professor at the United States Naval Academy, a senior fellow at the Center for a New American Security, and a member of both the Pentagon's Defense Policy Board and the U. S. Navy's Executive Panel. Foreign Policy magazine twice named him one of the world's “Top 100 Global Thinkers.” New York Times columnist Thomas Friedman has called Kaplan among the four “most widely read” authors defining the post-Cold War (along with Stanford Professor Francis Fukuyama, Yale Professor Paul Kennedy, and the late Harvard Professor Samuel Huntington). Kaplan's article, “The Coming Anarchy,” published in the February, 1994 Atlantic Monthly, about how population rise, ethnic and sectarian strife, disease, urbanization, and resource depletion is undermining the political fabric of the planet, was hotly debated in foreign-language translations around the world. So was his December, 1997 Atlantic cover story, “Was Democracy Just A Moment?” That piece argued that the democracy now spreading around the world would not necessarily lead to more stability. According to U. S. News & World Report, “President Clinton was so impressed with Kaplan, he ordered an interagency study of these issues, and it agreed with Kaplan's conclusions.” In the 1980s, Kaplan was the first American writer to warn in print about a future war in the Balkans. Balkan Ghosts was chosen by The New York Times Book Review as one of the “best books” of 1993. The Arabists, The Ends of the Earth, An Empire Wilderness, Eastward to Tartary, and Warrior Politics were all chosen by The New York Times as “notable” books of the year. An Empire Wilderness was chosen by The Washington Post and The Los Angeles Times as one of the best books of 1998. The Wall Street Journal named The Arabists one of the five best books ever written about America's historical involvement in the Middle East. The Financial Times named Asia's Cauldron one of the ten best political books of 2014. Besides The Atlantic, Kaplan's essays have appeared on the editorial pages of The New York Times, The Washington Post, the Financial Times, The Wall Street Journal, and The Los Angeles Times, as well as in all the major foreign affairs journals, including cover stories in Foreign Affairs. He has been a consultant to the U. S. Army's Special Forces Regiment, the U. S. Air Force, and the U. S. Marines. Named as one of the "100 most connected men" by GQ magazine, Andrew Keen is amongst the world's best known broadcasters and commentators. In addition to presenting KEEN ON, he is the host of the long-running How To Fix Democracy show. He is also the author of four prescient books about digital technology: CULT OF THE AMATEUR, DIGITAL VERTIGO, THE INTERNET IS NOT THE ANSWER and HOW TO FIX THE FUTURE. In Episode 88, we're talking vulnerability. In Episode 87, Khloe brought up the human tendency to make ourselves palatable which lead us to a in-depth conversation on vulnerability: Are we engaging with life from a true place of vulnerability? or are we just trying to make ourselves palatable & labeling it vulnerability? In today's conversation we deep dive the fear of vulnerability and how this shows up in our relationships, in the workplace, in friends circles and family dynamics. We talk about how vulnerability doesn't necessarily feel safe in our bodies and how we are personally working through our lived experiences with the intention to show up with more vulnerability with the hope that someday vulnerability will feel safer but in the meantime how were disrupting the patterns and cycles that led us to where we are now. If you've ever felt out of control when it comes to food, this is an episode that you don't want to miss. Have you ever considered that food itself and the way you've conditioned yourself to eat are bigger problems than your willpower? In this episode, I'll tell you all about hyper-palatable foods. These foods are extra tasty because of the combination of fats, sugar, salts, and carbohydrates in them. They are also the foods that have led to the idea of food addictions. Listen in to hear what hyper-palatable food is, how they affect your eating behaviors, and what you can do to take back the power over your food choices so you are in control of your food instead of the food being in control of you. Is it acidic and astringent? Or bright and brilliant? For many Americans, the world of fine wine can feel exclusionary because of the way we talk about wine. That's why some in the wine business are moving away from describing "earthiness" and whether a wine "has seen wood." "This kind of [language] is not just to alienate normal people. This kind of conversation is really very technical, like the way car lovers would talk about the technical elements of a car," said Jonathon Alsop, founder and executive director of the Boston Wine School. "But one of the things that we in the wine business need to change is that communicating is not just talking. Some part of communicating is also the listening part, and letting the other person talk every now and then. And this is something that we're starting to learn in the wine world." Alsop also said there's potential for confusion when someone says a wine "has a lot of grapefruit in it," for example, when there's not actually any grapefruit in the blend. So what should you drink this summer? Alsop recommended vinho verde from Portugal. It's a bargain white wine at about $10 a bottle, and the wine itself is a little bit bubbly and has an interesting flavor because it's a blend of three to five different grapes. And Alsop said it's not a wine you have to spend a lot of time appreciating — just open it and drink. To pair with your wine this summer, Amy Traverso, senior food editor at Yankee Magazine, recommended a few items for the grill: "clambake" grill packets, pull-apart garlic bread, blueberry-gingersnap crumble and s'mores dip. Plus, old-fashioned cottage cheese is making a comeback. "Cottage cheese is the Greek yogurt of cottage cheese," Traverso said. "The flavor is more neutral, it doesn't have the acidity, and it's easier to go in either a savory or a sweet direction with cottage cheese. It's high in protein for people who care about that, it's low in fat for people who care about that. ... If you look on TikTok there are 250 million views for hashtag 'cottage cheese.'" Our food and wine contributors are sipping and savoring those stories and more on our Food and Wine Roundtable. This episode is a little graphic, Neighbor. Luke has waged war against the moles in the backyard. (Perhaps you've seen him out there, weilding sharp objects and shrieking, in a primal sort of way.) If you've got a mole problem, let us tell you how to handle it... Then: Luke storms out of this episode. Luke has a very soft voice, which makes it difficult for him to be heard in this (loud) family. We try to teach him to speak from his diaphragm. But we have to hurry, because our guests are coming over to play games! Later: Don't you wish you could make divorce look as fun and cool as those people on social media?! Rather than No-Fault divorce, maybe we should refer to all parties as "Failed-at-Marriage." So many people are trying to find a way to "sell" their own life to the world; they want to package their story as a brand that can be consumed on social media. If having a failed marriage is part of her story, then an Influencer's only option is to find a way to make it seem like a good, relatable, positive thing... They're trying to make yucky things palatable. Like Matcha. Hey, Neighbor, will you hurry up and get your tickets to come on VACATION WITH US?! Visit johnbranyan.com for details about Vacay with Comics. IT WON'T BE THE SAME WITHOUT YOU.

In the food-centric culture we live in, it can be tough to swallow the fact that eating blander food may be a hidden secret to unlocking consistent nutrition plan adherence. But it's true. The blander your baseline food intake, the less susceptible you'll become to cravings. As disappointing as this may seem at first glance, trust me when I say it's not as bad as it sounds. In today's episode, Paul and Micheala will introduce you to The Food Palatability Reward Hypothesis and teach you how you can use this concept to your advantage when trying to optimize nutrition plan adherence. This episode will explain exactly what this concept is, debunk the gross assumptions that likely come about after seeing this term, and help you devise a strategy to better monitor the baseline palatability of your food choices during certain periods of the year to optimize both nutrition plan adherence and lasting results! Episode Key Highlights: Develop a foundational understanding of The Food Palatability Reward Hypothesis and learn how you can use it to your advantage to optimize nutrition plan adherence. Discover how and why lower palatability doesn't necessarily mean bland and boring food for the rest of your life. Learn simple strategies you can use to subtly, yet powerfully, alter the palatability of your food, and, therefore, alter the level of cravings you feel. Understand when and how to best use the strategies shared to optimize progress during a diet and post-diet maintenance phase! This week baker, creative and self-appointed “Sublime Prince of the Esoteric Order of Cookie” Steve Lewis, shares his entrepreneurial journey to creating a local gem called Gideon's Bakehouse. We dive into his obsessive 15-year process of creating the perfect chocolate chip cookie and how he attributes the addition of an immersive Disney Springs location to the groundswell of loyal customers of The East End Market in Orlando. We'll break down insights into the role of social media and the platform he's built for creativity and experiential branding so unique - it stands out even among the magic of Disney. This is a story about a kid baker from 1898 called Gideon and a palatable love letter to a Central Florida community. Some highlights of what we cover: How an immersive experience started with understanding how Steve wanted people to feel in his space How the Gideon's Bakehouse brand reveals their raw truth in obsessing over the visual details Why a bakery is just the beginning of the Gideon story About Steve Lewis: Steve is the owner and creator of Gideon's Bakehouse. His story began in sadness at a young age when he realized his community was lacking a great chocolate chip cookie. As a result, he is the one that took 15 years to create the Gideon's Cookie because A) it is a uniquely difficult recipe or B) he is a terrible baker. The truth likely lies between the two. He will tell you the secret ingredient in a Gideon's Cookie is his tears. Outside of the kitchen, Steve is a vocal music major that enjoys photography, collecting books, and watching cartoons. He loves all animals and has two weird cats, Vincent the Poet, and Savant the White. Merriam-Webster's Word of the Day for March 29, 2022 is: palatable PAL-uh-tuh-bul adjective Palatable can mean "agreeable to one's sense of taste or palate" or "agreeable or acceptable to the mind." // The soup was too bland for my taste, so I added some salt and pepper to make it palatable. // Those who are afraid of flying often consider traveling by train as the palatable alternative. See the entry > Examples: "He felt the applicant made the proposal as palatable to the board as possible and feared that other potential uses of the property such as commercial businesses or restaurants could have higher traffic volumes." — Josh Janney, The Northern Virginia (Strasburg) Daily, 11 Feb. 2022 Did you know? Palatable comes from palate, a word for the roof of the mouth, which itself comes from Latin palatum. The palate was once thought of as the seat of the sense of taste, so the word eventually came to mean "sense of taste," or broadly, "liking."

The following is a letter from Rabbi Kivelevitz .Shalom Ubracha-It is quite unnecessaryto state here how stressful the last ten months have been.AsKlal Yisroel places an immeasurable value on learning and intellectual growth, many of us have weathered this storm by entrenching ourselves deeper into our rich literary heritage, discovering insight and inspiration and using the pause of hustle bustle activity to savor new texts and articulate probing questions. The tools of teleconferencing have generated thebrachaof wide attendance inShiurimand access to the world's finest Torah teachers. Energized by these positives, I am humbly offering to partner with all of you on a venture of discovery.Over twenty-five years ago, I listenedwith rapt attention as Professor Haym Soloveichick eulogized his father. He said theRambam,Maimonides, was theGirsa DaYankusaof his father, which the prodigygrew up memorizing like nursery rhymes, with all ofMishna Torahetched in his memory and flowing easily from his lip. However,it wasin that otherMoshe, Nachmanides, that the elder Soloveichickdiscovered his intellectual approach and soul.It can be assumed that Rav Soloveichick's flowering as the premier Talmudist of our times was built in great part by contrasting the words of each of these Medieval teachers in areas they had both worked on, or whereRambanlevels his often withering criticism ofRambam's position. There are scores of examples throughout Shas, and in particular in the work Nachmanides dedicated to staking his disagreements with his Egyptian counterpart-Hasagosto theRambam'sSefer HaMitzvos. In his classic toweringPerushonChumash,Rambanforcefully attacks many ofRambam's explanations ofmitzvosand interpretations of biblical events. In the coming weeks, we can together discover anew these diamond like gems ofcodification, inquiry analysis and poetic barbsthat issued from these giants.....-armed with the salient texts, and buoyed by an enthusiasm to discover, I relish the prospect of learning with you.
