What a start to a summer of grief, and the Shamar of joy... Bisi, Sandy, Srinath, Murali and Chops get together on the day of Bazball's first win on Indian shores and a Windies' win for the ages at the Gabba to cry, feel angry, smile, guffaw, break heads and crack jokes while constantly pointing and laughing at Ashwin's fielding, and AB de Villiers' ridiculous new ideas to 'improve' the game. With England preparing to embark on a five-Test tour of India, the Switch Hit team sat down to discuss their chances
MLB legend and five-time Allstar Larry Bowa who won a world series both as a player and then as a coach joins the show on the Farm Bureau guest line. Bo asks Larry about his start in baseball, and the Philadelphia Phillies Wall of Famer says he was cut three times from his high school team because of his size. He got signed to JUCO through summer ball and from there worked his way to the minors then the majors. Never thought about quitting because of his dad who was a minor league player with over 2,000 hits and never got drafted. Bo asked him when he realized he could have a career, and Larry said it was in the minor leagues. He was told he could be a major league utility player, but if he could learn to switch-hit, he would be an everyday player in AAA, so that is what he did and hit around .270-.280 as a switch-hitter. Bo asks Larry when he was with the Phillies when did they realize they were going to be good. Larry says that in the mid 70s they started to play really good but were still missing something. The missing piece was Pete Rose. At that point Dallas Green took over and that is what led them to where they were in the 1980s. After a tough series with Houston, Bowa felt there was really no pressure on them going in the World Series at that point. Bo asks if he still talks to Pete Rose. Larry says he sees him a good bit and that he believes Rose is at peace with not being inducted into the Hall of Fame. Bo wants to know what Mike Schmidt was like as a player and a personality. Larry says he was a natural athlete and could make it look easy with any type of ball in his hand. Out of Bounds is sponsored by BetterHelp. In addition to leading the 1972 World Series champion A's in home runs, Mike played for arguably the greatest hitter of all-time, Ted Williams…Using what he learned from his career and from Ted Williams, Mike built a system to identify and fix swing faults. Mike received the only letter of recommendation for hitting instruction Ted Williams ever gave out…After working closely with Mike to learn the craft of teaching hitting, Epstein Hitting is now led by Jake Epstein…Jake has perfected the use of video analysis to create a plan to maximize a player's swing. In addition to slow-motion video analysis, Jake has built a library of drills that he uses to address the unique needs of individual players. Gregor redet z.B.
