Or maybe even Tim Burton's Gotham City? They are all virtually indistinguishable from one another. Now sit your $5 ass down and listen before I make change. Celebrate 50 episodes of Artist Friendly as Joel Madden is joined by multi-GRAMMY award-winning rapper Lil Wayne. Wayne, who joined Good Charlotte onstage for “Lifestyles of the Rich & Famous” at When We Were Young back in October, has shifted from an off-the-wall rapper — always packing a punchline — to an elder statesman who can still spin woozy bars. After releasing his platinum debut album, Tha Block Is Hot, when he was 17, Wayne continued to make his mark with Tha Carter series, which boasts bonafide classics like “A Milli,” “6 Foot 7 Foot,” and “Hustler Musik.” All these years later, Wayne remains inspired, as evinced by his latest project, Welcome 2 Collegrove, a collaborative LP with 2 Chainz, that was released in November. Listen to their conversation on Artist Friendly wherever you listen to podcasts. This week, we're talking about KeKe Palmer's baby daddy tweet that had everyone in their feelings. He tweeted his disapproval in response to a viral video of Usher serenading Palmer, who sported a stylish black bodysuit underneath a sheer, patterned dress at the singer's concert. “It's the outfit tho… you a mom,” he replied to the clip on Twitter. What do we think of his comment? Was he out of line or just keeping it real? We'll break it down and share our thoughts on this controversial topic. We're also celebrating Lil Wayne's classic album “Tha Carter” that turned 20 years old this week. We'll revisit some of our favorite tracks, memories and moments from this iconic project that changed the game and influenced a whole generation of rappers. We'll also discuss Juvenile's lit performance on NPR Tiny Desk, where he brought back some of his hits like “Back That Azz Up” and “Slow Motion”. How did he do? Did he represent the culture well? Next, we'll talk about NBA off-season drama: where will Dame Dolla end up? The Portland Trail Blazers star has been rumored to be unhappy with his team and looking for a trade. Where do we think he should go? What team would be the best fit for him? We'll debate and analyze the possible scenarios and outcomes for one of the best players in the league. Finally, we'll touch on SCOTUS overturning affirmative action, a decision that could have major implications for education, employment and diversity in America. What do we think of this ruling? How will it affect us as black people? We'll share our opinions, concerns and hopes for the future of our community. This artist became a rapper at the age of 9. Lil Wayne came from a tough childhood before exploring his talent for rapping as a member of the Hot Boys. With growing popularity, he pursued his solo career and released Tha Carter in 2004 and Tha Carter II in 2005. He was ready to take on the mantle of "Best Rapper Alive" and collaborated with artists such as Fall Out Boy and Fat Joe. Lil Wayne found success in 2008 with Tha Carter III, which included hit singles "A Milli" and "Lollipop", earning him 4 Grammys that year. Following Tha Carter III, he released IV and V, along with mixtapes. Even during his prison sentence in 2010, he released the album "I Am Not a Human Being", which debuted at #2 on the Billboard 200. Lil Wayne has sold over 120 million records worldwide and introduced a new generation of rappers, including Drake, Nicki Minaj, and Tyga through his record label, Young Money Entertainment. Over his career Lil Wayne won numerous awards — from the Grammys, BET, Billboard, VMAs, and NAACP — cementing his legacy as one of hip-hop's greatest. Watch Behind the Music now on Paramount+. When Lil Wayne released Tha Carter II on December 6th, 2005, Hip Hop was in an open space. It was a time where Jay-Z was entering the executive space after the Rocafella era, and South began to rise thanks to a diverse array of sounds from No Limit to D4L. However, for record label Cash Money, it was a time to rebuild. Following the fall of the Hot Boyz, Wayne began to make sure people knew that he was the Best Rapper Alive with Tha Carter series. The first installment introduced listeners to Weezy, while the second solidified his dominance in the late 2000's. This week, we take a look back at Tha Carter with our friends Otis (@OtistGlenn) and Dave (@TrapBasquiat) and choose our top 2 songs from the album while also talking about Wayne's legacy in rap, his crazy political beliefs, and how Tha Carter II as well as his mixtape hustle helped shape the generations to come.
