We should always bear in mind that God is keeping His eye on things. How do you know that you are wise? Is when you can answer most questions asked of you? Is it when you have an understanding of how life works and how to navigate it? What does it mean to be wise? And do we really want to be? James, as we have seen over and over again is intensely practical, really to the point of discomfort. James is all about showing your work. A Christianity that is just another thing to occupy your mind isn't worth much. Sure the nerds have fun, but Christianity isn't a life of the mind thing. It needs to actually do something to be worthwhile. It needs to change me. That is what James is interested in. He wants something that motivates the care of widows and orphans. He wants something that looks out for the poor, changes how I speak, and rules how I live. He wants something that makes a real difference in the believer's life and those around them. And because it makes a real difference in our lives, that means a lot of things have to change, including what we think about wisdom. Usually we try to define wisdom as knowledge used well. It's knowing that a tomato is a fruit but doesn't belong in a fruit salad. It's knowing how money works but also what it is truly for. In our passage today, we see that wisdom isn't just what goes on in your head, but it is the outpouring of a shaped soul that looks a lot like holiness. James' wisdom doesn't come out just in sage words, but sanctified actions. He isn't the only one to think this, either. Jesus says the same thing in Matthew 11:19 "The Son of Man came eating and drinking, and they say, ‘Look at him! A glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners!' Yet wisdom is justified by her deeds.”" and more poetically in Luke 7:35 "Yet wisdom is justified by all her children.” They were falsely accusing him, yet if they would look at his actions, they would see his wisdom. Over the next chapter and a half,James will present the difference between wise and unwise living, shows in greater detail where unwise living takes us, and ultimately provides that solution on how to be wise. We will look at just the first one today.
King David makes a series of bad decisions, as recorded in 2 Samuel 11, and we see how these compounded decisions had an adverse impact on his family in a big way. Do we make similar mistakes today?2 Samuel 11:2-3 KJV And it came to pass in an eveningtide, that David arose from off his bed, and walked upon the roof of the king's house: and from the roof he saw a woman washing herself; and the woman was very beautiful to look upon. And David sent and enquired after the woman. And one said, Is not this Bathsheba, the daughter of Eliam, the wife of Uriah the Hittite?Related Podcasts:— Persistent and Consistent — Prayer Life— Faith and the Christian Experience— Some Thoughts on the Doctrine of Free Will— What Exactly is the Great Controversy, Anyway?— Having the Right Perspective— Search Me, O God— The Foreknowledge Conundrum— God's Ways are Not Our Ways— Fear Not — For I am With TheeRelated Podcasts at TrueWisdom:— Beware Who You Follow— The Battle is the Lord's— Prayer & Prophecy— How Should We Relate to the Cares of This Life?— Knowing God's Will, Part 1— Knowing God's Will, Part 2Text UsSupport the showSend questions or comments to: BibleQuestions@ASBzone.comThe Key Principles of Effective Bible Study is a resource which outlines core concepts shown in the Scriptures that will help you to better understand many Biblical themes and doctrines. James 1:5 calls believers to seek divine wisdom—rooted in God's character and revealed through His Word—when facing trials, not as a mere intellectual exercise but as a vital necessity for enduring faith. This wisdom, distinct from worldly understanding, is not derived from human reasoning or accumulated knowledge, but flows from a humble, God-fearing heart and is evidenced by peace, purity, mercy, and righteousness in action. The passage emphasizes that God, who is infinitely wise and eager to give, responds generously and without reproach to those who earnestly ask, making prayerful dependence on Him not optional but essential for spiritual growth. Far from being a one-time request, this act of asking is a continual posture of surrender, requiring persistent reliance on God's guidance throughout every trial. Ultimately, God's wisdom transforms the believer's thinking, aligning their decisions and character with His will, and deepens their sanctification by replacing self-reliance with divine trust. This divine wisdom, accessible through prayer and Scripture, equips believers to endure trials not in despair, but in joyful obedience, producing steadfastness that reflects Christ's image.

We all think we are wise. We all think we have an angle on the way the world works. This applies whether you are a lofty thinker or down to earth. The question is, "Are we?" Is the wisdom we claim real and reliable? In this passage, James corrects our tendency to equate wisdom with mere words and insists that true wisdom will be distinguished by good conduct flowing from and filled with meekness.

True Wisdom | Baccalaureate Service Brandon Rodriguez Today we're diving into the wisdom that comes directly from God Almighty. As you step into new seasons of life, you'll hear plenty of voices offering advice, but I want to point you to the best counsel available, the wisdom of our holy God. In Proverbs, King Solomon, the wisest man to ever live, teaches us three essential principles for navigating life with true wisdom. First, we must trust in the Lord with all our hearts, not leaning on our own limited understanding. This means submitting completely to His ways, even when we can't see the full picture ahead. Second, we must acknowledge Him in all our ways, developing a genuine relationship with God and seeking His direction in every area of our lives, from our relationships to our careers to our deepest ambitions. Third, we must fear the Lord, placing Him at the very center of everything we do, recognizing His holiness and authority above all else. Now here's what the world won't tell you: Worldly wisdom focuses on success, comfort, and self-fulfillment, but it can't satisfy the deepest needs of our souls. Godly wisdom, on the other hand, seeks to glorify God and align us with His perfect plan. Throughout Scripture we see examples of people who trusted God without understanding the full plan, from Abraham leaving everything for an unknown land to Joseph persevering through betrayal and imprisonment to Mary saying yes to bearing the Messiah itself. But the most important truth is that Jesus Christ lived out this perfect wisdom completely. He trusted God fully, feared the Lord completely, and willingly went to the cross to save us. If you haven't yet surrendered your life to Jesus, I urge you to do that today, because true wisdom begins and ends with knowing Him as your Savior and Lord.

When it comes to humanitarian aid or assistance, or to social justice work, does the Bible put the responsibility on the church as an organization? Or does it put the responsibility on church members as individuals or families? Let's see what we can discover from scripture.Isaiah 58:6-7 KJVIs not this the fast that I have chosen? to loose the bands of wickedness, to undo the heavy burdens, and to let the oppressed go free, and that ye break every yoke? 25th April 2026 In this Satsang, Sanjay discussed about the illusion of human control, explaining that while the physical body and the universe are bound by time and destined to be destroyed, our true essence belongs to the changeless, eternal Creator. He emphasized that true immortality cannot be found through physical longevity, but only through the spiritual "posture" of abiding in the pure, inner self and completely ignoring the restless mind. Sanjay stressed the necessity of personal effort, urging seekers to surrender their desires and false identities to the profound power of inner silence. By doing so, the fire of this pure awareness burns away all karmas and ego, allowing the individual to transcend the suffering of the world and rest as the liberated, uninvolved witness. These are teachings and pointers from ongoing NDA(Non-duality awareness)/Advaitic Satsangs held at Bhagavan Ramana Maharshi Centre in Melbourne, Australia. Om Namo Bhagavate Sri Arunachala Ramanaya !

Who is the Angel of the LORD? When the Bible references this phrase, especially in the Old Testament, is it referring to a regular angel? (Cherubim) Or to someone else? We're going to take a look at Genesis 16 and 22 to get a clear understanding of who is being referenced.Genesis 16:10 KJVAnd the angel of the LORD said unto her, “I will multiply thy seed exceedingly, that it shall not be numbered for multitude.”Related Podcasts:— The Divinity of Jesus Christ— Christ, Humanity and Salvation— Why Did Jesus Come to Earth?— God's Promises to me are sure— Noble Prince of PeaceRelated Podcasts at TrueWisdom:— God visits Abraham— Decisions, Decisions, Decisions— Abraham's Test of Faith— Who Is Like God?— Revelations of the GodheadText UsSupport the showSend questions or comments to: BibleQuestions@ASBzone.comThe Key Principles of Effective Bible Study is a resource which outlines core concepts shown in the Scriptures that will help you to better understand many Biblical themes and doctrines. Brother Nick looks at the wisdom that shows from chapter 13.
Send us Fan MailToday, we're turning to 1 Kings chapters 4 and 5. These chapters don't just tell us that Solomon was wise—they show us what wisdom looks like in action. They give us a picture of how God's gift of wisdom shaped a kingdom, organised a nation, built relationships, and prepared the way for one of the greatest projects in biblical history. The writer of Kings, probably Jeremiah, structured Solomon's story to highlight the fulfilment—or failure—of earlier prophecy. In Solomon's case, the prophecy is in chapter 3, where God promises to give him wisdom. And that theme will run all the way through chapter 11. In other words, the entire narrative of Solomon's reign is, in a sense, a study in wisdom—how it works, how it blesses, and eventually, how it can be lost.Let the Art Speak: About Hope conference on April 10 & 11 in Madison, WIJoin artists & creatives at the 5th Let the Art Speak conference — a celebration of hope.Support the showFollow and support me on Patreon.Jeremy McCandless | Creating Podcasts and Bible Study Resources | PatreonTo receive my weekly newsletter and keep up to date with all five of my podcasts, subscribe at:Jeremy McCandless | SubstackCheck out my other Podcasts. The Bible Project: https://thebibleproject.buzzsprout.comHistory of the Christian Church: https://thehistoryofthechristianchurch.buzzsprout.comThe L.I.F.E. Kyle Kauffman | Feb 2026We live in a day of almost limitless information and knowledge. We can access it all at the hands of our fingertips. And the ability to know and find more information will likely only increase as our technology continues to increase. But is all this information and knowledge making us wise? Or is it making us fools? God tells us in 1 Corinthians 2 that true wisdom is not the same as simply knowing more or being culturally or technologically savvy. Rather true wisdom is found trusting God even when trusting him seems to go against the wisdom of our day. This trust should lead us to seek wisdom in what God has revealed rather than simply in more knowledge and information. And this wisdom is displayed in pursuing a life of living more like Christ. It's this posture, source, and pursuit that define what true wisdom looks like in an age of limitless information and knowledge.
Tuesday, February 17, 2026Last Week After Epiphany As we step into Mardi Gras, today's readings call us to humility, discernment, and a deeper knowing of Christ. In Proverbs 30:1–4, 24–33, Agur confesses his limitations and marvels at the greatness of God. True wisdom begins not with self-confidence but with reverent humility. Even the smallest creatures reveal quiet diligence and order—reminding us that wisdom is often steady, disciplined, and restrained. Pride and strife, however, only stir conflict. In Philippians 3:1–11, Paul lays down his spiritual résumé and counts it all loss compared to the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus. Righteousness is not achieved—it is received. What matters most is being found in Him, sharing in His life, His sufferings, and His resurrection power. And in John 18:28–38, Jesus stands before Pilate, unshaken. While religious leaders cling to power and politics swirl with tension, Jesus speaks of a kingdom not of this world. Truth is not a concept to debate—it is a King to follow. This episode invites us to exchange pride for humility, performance for relationship, and empty noise for the deep, steady wisdom that comes from knowing Christ.
