What does it look like when God calls you to His service? Will His call to you look just like His call to everyone else? Or will it be totally unique?Let's look at what the Bible shows us on this topic.1 Corinthians 1:17 KJVFor Christ sent me not to baptize, but to preach the gospel: not with wisdom of words, lest the cross of Christ should be made of none effect.Related Podcasts:— The Purpose of the Church— The Hour of His Judgment is Come— Three Crucial Messages— Another Angel — Warning Repeated— Unto Whom Much is Given— Having the Right PerspectiveRelated Podcasts at TrueWisdom:— The Fellowship of Believers— What is the purpose of the Church?Interesting Content CreatorI recently came across a very interesting content creator named Ariel Fitz-Patrick who produces Bible-related skits where she presents the stories of various Bible characters from unique perspectives. What exactly does it mean to not follow a multitude to do evil? There are a few ways we can look at this passage, but we're going to focus on the one perspective involving judgment and justice.Exodus 23:2-3 KJVThou shalt not follow a multitude to do evil; neither shalt thou speak in a cause to decline after many to wrest judgment: Neither shalt thou countenance a poor man in his cause.Related Podcasts:— Standing Up Against the Wrong— Take Courage— What Doest Thou Here, Elijah?— Fear Not — For I am With Thee— We are Well Able to Overcome— Encourage Yourself in the Lord— Unto Whom Much is Given— Having the Right PerspectiveRelated Podcasts at TrueWisdom:— Don't Wait to Stand Up— What They Don't Tell You About Gideon, Pt 1— What They Don't Tell You About Gideon, Pt 2— What They Don't Tell You About Gideon, Pt 3— Joseph and His Conflicts— Squandered Blessings— Grace, Grace, and More GraceText UsSupport the showSend questions or comments to: BibleQuestions@ASBzone.comThe Key Principles of Effective Bible Study is a resource which outlines core concepts shown in the Scriptures that will help you to better understand many Biblical themes and doctrines. This message given by Martha Kate Hall emphasizes the importance of humility as the foundation of true wisdom, drawing from the Book of Proverbs and the example of Jesus. It explains that wisdom is not about knowing everything, but about remaining teachable and open to correction, contrasting the wise—who are humble and eager to learn—with the fool, who rejects instruction out of pride. The message highlights that pride, often subtle and sometimes even valued in society, can be spiritually destructive, leading to a refusal to depend on God and stunting personal growth. Using examples from everyday professions, the message illustrates that continual learning is essential in all areas of life, including faith. The lives of Nicodemus and Jesus are presented as models of humility, with Jesus' ultimate act of washing his disciples' feet serving as a powerful symbol. The message concludes by encouraging listeners to reflect on where pride may be hindering their growth and to actively seek humility, following Christ's example in their daily lives.

The Bible talks about God's faithfulness and commitment to us, to save us from our sins. But what about our commitment to Him?What does God tell us about our need for commitment to Him and His service?Ruth 1:16-18 KJVAnd Ruth said, "Intreat me not to leave thee, or to return from following after thee: for whither thou goest, I will go; and where thou lodgest, I will lodge: thy people shall be my people, and thy God my God: Where thou diest, will I die, and there will I be buried: the LORD do so to me, and more also, if ought but death part thee and me." When she saw that she was stedfastly minded to go with her, then she left speaking unto her.Luke 9:61-62 KJVAnd another also said, "Lord, I will follow Thee; but let me first go bid them farewell, which are at home at my house." The Bible gives us significant counsel about how to treat sin and sinners -- especially sin by brethren or former brethren. Unfortunately, it is rarely heeded, and this leads to a slew of unintended consequences. Let's see what the Bible tells us in regard to this phrase.Proverbs 17:9 KJVHe that covereth a transgression seeketh love; but he that repeateth a matter separateth very friends.1 Peter 4:7-8 KJVBut the end of all things is at hand: be ye therefore sober, and watch unto prayer. And above all things have fervent charity among yourselves: for charity shall cover the multitude of sins.James 5:19-20 KJVBrethren, if any of you do err from the truth, and one convert him; Let him know, that he which converteth the sinner from the error of his way shall save a soul from death, and shall hide a multitude of sins.Related Podcasts:— Unto Whom Much is Given— The Law of Faith— The Law and Grace— What of Works?— Missing the Mark— Faith and the Christian Experience— Obedience is the Consequence, not the Cause— Search Me, O God— Forgiveness is Our Solemn Duty— Beware Self-Righteousness— Godly Sorrow, True Repentance— Why Do We Seek Wisdom?— Having the Right PerspectiveRelated Podcasts at TrueWisdom:— Joseph and His Conflicts— Squandered Blessings— Grace, Grace, and More GraceText UsSupport the showSend questions or comments to: BibleQuestions@ASBzone.comThe Key Principles of Effective Bible Study is a resource which outlines core concepts shown in the Scriptures that will help you to better understand many Biblical themes and doctrines. Everyone wants wisdom, but Proverbs teaches that wisdom does not begin with better information or better decision-making. It begins with the fear of the Lord by bringing our lives under God's authority. In this message from Proverbs 1, discover how the fear of the Lord becomes the foundation for knowing God's truth, trusting His Word, and walking the wise path.
In the Proverbs, wisdom urges attention, but many disregard it for their own paths. However, those who heed wisdom find peace. Seek wisdom as a precious treasure, and you'll be blessed. Series: Walking in Wisdom Speaker: Richard Meservey Scripture: Proverbs 1:20-33; 2:1-4; 8:1-11; and James 3:13-18
God gives to people talents and gifts and opportunities as He sees fit. And He holds us accountable for what we have been given, proportionately to how we have been blessed and favored. Today, we will look briefly at some of the people in the Bible who were blessed and whether or not they rose to the level of how they had been blessed.Luke 12:47-48 KJVAnd that servant, which knew his lord's will, and prepared not himself, neither did according to his will, shall be beaten with many stripes. But he that knew not, and did commit things worthy of stripes, shall be beaten with few stripes. How do you know that you are wise? Is when you can answer most questions asked of you? Is it when you have an understanding of how life works and how to navigate it? What does it mean to be wise? And do we really want to be? James, as we have seen over and over again is intensely practical, really to the point of discomfort. James is all about showing your work. A Christianity that is just another thing to occupy your mind isn't worth much. Sure the nerds have fun, but Christianity isn't a life of the mind thing. It needs to actually do something to be worthwhile. It needs to change me. That is what James is interested in. He wants something that motivates the care of widows and orphans. He wants something that looks out for the poor, changes how I speak, and rules how I live. He wants something that makes a real difference in the believer's life and those around them. And because it makes a real difference in our lives, that means a lot of things have to change, including what we think about wisdom. Usually we try to define wisdom as knowledge used well. It's knowing that a tomato is a fruit but doesn't belong in a fruit salad. It's knowing how money works but also what it is truly for. In our passage today, we see that wisdom isn't just what goes on in your head, but it is the outpouring of a shaped soul that looks a lot like holiness. James' wisdom doesn't come out just in sage words, but sanctified actions. He isn't the only one to think this, either. Jesus says the same thing in Matthew 11:19 "The Son of Man came eating and drinking, and they say, ‘Look at him! A glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners!' Yet wisdom is justified by her deeds.”" and more poetically in Luke 7:35 "Yet wisdom is justified by all her children.” They were falsely accusing him, yet if they would look at his actions, they would see his wisdom. Over the next chapter and a half,James will present the difference between wise and unwise living, shows in greater detail where unwise living takes us, and ultimately provides that solution on how to be wise. We will look at just the first one today.
King David makes a series of bad decisions, as recorded in 2 Samuel 11, and we see how these compounded decisions had an adverse impact on his family in a big way. Do we make similar mistakes today?2 Samuel 11:2-3 KJV And it came to pass in an eveningtide, that David arose from off his bed, and walked upon the roof of the king's house: and from the roof he saw a woman washing herself; and the woman was very beautiful to look upon. And David sent and enquired after the woman. And one said, Is not this Bathsheba, the daughter of Eliam, the wife of Uriah the Hittite?Related Podcasts:— Persistent and Consistent — Prayer Life— Faith and the Christian Experience— Some Thoughts on the Doctrine of Free Will— What Exactly is the Great Controversy, Anyway?— Having the Right Perspective— Search Me, O God— The Foreknowledge Conundrum— God's Ways are Not Our Ways— Fear Not — For I am With TheeRelated Podcasts at TrueWisdom:— Beware Who You Follow— The Battle is the Lord's— Prayer & Prophecy— How Should We Relate to the Cares of This Life?— Knowing God's Will, Part 1— Knowing God's Will, Part 2Text UsSupport the showSend questions or comments to: BibleQuestions@ASBzone.comThe Key Principles of Effective Bible Study is a resource which outlines core concepts shown in the Scriptures that will help you to better understand many Biblical themes and doctrines. James 1:5 calls believers to seek divine wisdom—rooted in God's character and revealed through His Word—when facing trials, not as a mere intellectual exercise but as a vital necessity for enduring faith. This wisdom, distinct from worldly understanding, is not derived from human reasoning or accumulated knowledge, but flows from a humble, God-fearing heart and is evidenced by peace, purity, mercy, and righteousness in action. The passage emphasizes that God, who is infinitely wise and eager to give, responds generously and without reproach to those who earnestly ask, making prayerful dependence on Him not optional but essential for spiritual growth. Far from being a one-time request, this act of asking is a continual posture of surrender, requiring persistent reliance on God's guidance throughout every trial. Ultimately, God's wisdom transforms the believer's thinking, aligning their decisions and character with His will, and deepens their sanctification by replacing self-reliance with divine trust. This divine wisdom, accessible through prayer and Scripture, equips believers to endure trials not in despair, but in joyful obedience, producing steadfastness that reflects Christ's image.

We all think we are wise. We all think we have an angle on the way the world works. This applies whether you are a lofty thinker or down to earth. The question is, "Are we?" Is the wisdom we claim real and reliable? In this passage, James corrects our tendency to equate wisdom with mere words and insists that true wisdom will be distinguished by good conduct flowing from and filled with meekness.

Proverbs 22:17 marks a turning point—an intentional call to listen, receive, and internalize wisdom. “Bow down thine ear, and hear the words of the wise, and apply thine heart unto my knowledge.” Wisdom is not absorbed casually; it requires humility, attention, and a willing heart. In today's Morning Manna, Rick Wiles and Doc Burkhart examine the posture required to receive truth, why wisdom must be applied—not merely heard—and how a teachable heart becomes the gateway to understanding and transformation.
