A young man who we'll call Jack told me, a few months ago his wedding was called off just four days before it was scheduled to take place. He was broken and needed some time to clear his head. He took a trip from where he lives in Brooklyn to Miami, Florida to visit a friend. While he was getting ready to go, he prayed to Hashem to please give him the chizuk that he so desperately needed by somehow showing him clearly that He is the One in control. When he arrived in Florida, his friend introduced him to one of his other friends who we'll call Yosef. That evening, Jack and Yosef spoke at length. Yosef told Jack he had gotten married a couple of years before at the age of 20. He moved to Florida from Brooklyn and was $40,000 in debt at the time. Because he was struggling so greatly financially, one of the wealthy men from the community in Florida decided to give him $10,000 to help him get back on his feet. He told Yosef, "B'ezrat Hashem, this money will bring you good mazal.” Right after that, COVID hit. Yosef was home thinking of ideas. He used the money to help start selling products on Amazon. He ended up earning over a half a million dollars in less than a year. He was able to pay back his debts and enjoyed some peace of mind. He invested some money with a broker and in a short amount of time earned a large return. He invested with him again, and once again, got a large return. Then, he gave the broker $200,000 to invest with, and hadn't heard from him since. He called the broker multiple times, but it seemed that he ran away with his money. Jack felt bad hearing this story from Yosef and told him he would dedicate himself to helping him find the broker for the few days that he would be in Florida. The next day, they found out this broker had been killed the previous night, allegedly by the mafia. He gambled with people's money and chose the wrong people to do it with. The broker's family had already become estranged from him and refused to tend to his burial. They gave instructions to cremate his body. When Jack and Yosef heard about this, they knew they had to stop this desecration of a Jewish body. Heroically, they offered to pay for the burial. With the help of a rabbi, they got permission from the family to do it. Yosef not only lost $200,000 investing with this broker, he was even willing to take thousands of more dollars from his own pocket to pay for his burial. They conducted a very small funeral, and they personally carried the coffin to the cemetery for burial afterward. At the funeral, Yosef put his hand on the coffin and said to the broker, "I completely forgive you for taking $200,000 from me. I have no claims against you for it. מחול לך, מחול לך, מחול לך"" That was an amazing display of ויתור, absolving someone from an enormous debt so he wouldn't have to face the consequences of it in the next world. The very next day, amazingly, Yosef earned $200,000 from a stock investment. When Jack found out about this, he was floored. A clear manifestation of Hashem's hashgacha pratit . Here, Yosef forgave someone for $200,000 one day, and made it back the very next day. Jack thanked Hashem for giving him the chizuk he needed in so many ways including seeing the Yad Hashem so clearly. The rabbi that was involved in helping them with the burial became close to Jack and now he gives him chizuk on a weekly basis by phone. Furthermore, Jack said, when he was carrying the body with Yosef to the cemetery, he got a reality check of how precious life is and now appreciates his life so much more. B'ezrat Hashem, he'll find his real zivug very soon. But in the meantime, Hashem answered his tefilla in a wondrous way, bringing him to meet the exact people that would help give him the chizuk he needed.

It's time to get hot and horny via organization in this week's Go To There! Who knew paperclips could be a turn-on? Finally, when Jenna's latest songs' residuals are laughable, she seeks out a new demographic when she learns Kenneth's family, specifically his mom Pearline (Catherine O'Hara) and her friend Ron (Bryan Cranston) still buy physical CDs. Anything can happen on live TV, and this week's Go To There analyzes the good, the bad, and the ugly sides of what it has had to offer. When Jack decided TGS has costs Kabletown too much money being a live show, he plans to convert it a taped presentation, and it's up to Kenneth to save the show. Will his memories of failed live sitcom finales, racially tense live shows, and other sketch programs be enough to sway the cast and crew to stay live, or will the promise of two work weeks a year be too good to pass up? Additionally, Jenna wants nothing less than to be proposed to on live TV by Paul, but when they try and tell Jenna she's doing it for the wrong reasons, will it convince her ego to step aside for the benefit of their love and relationship? Just like 30 Rock's previous live episode, there are numerous differences in the different airings (airings that legally impossible to find online) and we do our best to point out and share the differences for the audience. The risk of live TV is arguably rarely worth the reward, but 30 Rock has proved with sharp writing and talent, you can pull it off. Just lose the blackface next time so more viewers can experience it all and the whole idea of losing history by losing it to history because of an outdated minstrel stereotype and racially insensitive themes. How do you respond to the discomfort of a pebble in your shoe? What about when it's a more serious illness? Discomfort, pain, and illness challenge us mightily when we hear Paul's words, “Always be full of joy in the Lord. I say it again—rejoice!” (Phil. 4:4 NLT). How am I supposed to rejoice when I'm sick, depressed, or irritated? Pastor Joe McGreever tells the story of Jack Hinton, who led a mission trip to a leper colony on Tobago. Toward the end of their trip, they held a worship service. One of the lepers entered the room, sitting on the back row with her face turned away from the stage. When Jack asked for song requests, she turned around and with a huge smile requested the song, “Count Your Blessings.” If a leper can learn to praise God in the midst of her suffering, perhaps we can find a way to thank God in the midst of our minor discomforts or major life tragedies.

A client of mine, Jack, has been entrepreneurially minded for his whole life. He’s an idea machine, and he’s constantly coming up with cool business ideas. He can’t help it — it’s just how his brain works. Naturally, he’ll get excited about a new idea and want to share it with people. As soon as inspiration hits (which is frequently), he’ll text his brother or call his mom or tell the coworker on the other side of his cube. Their reactions aren’t always what he’d hoped for. In fact, they’re usually pretty discouraging. They’ll ask a million questions about how it will work — questions he can’t yet answer, since he’s still working out the idea in his mind — or they’ll jump to all the reasons why it’s risky or impractical or straight-up impossible. Usually, after these deflating conversations, Jack will feel less enthusiastic about the idea, and often he’ll end up abandoning it altogether. When Jack came to coaching, he told me he was afraid he’s all ideas and no action. He was feeling like maybe he wasn’t cut out to be an entrepreneur after all, since he couldn’t seem to stick with an idea and make it a reality. “Your problem isn’t that you have too many ideas, or you’re flaky, or you lack follow-through, or anything like that,” I told him. “Your problem is just that you share your ideas too soon, and with the wrong people.” In this week’s throwback blog from 2018, I’m making a case for why you should keep new ideas to yourself for a while, and how to know when it’s OK to share them with others. Jack shares his story about confronting the truth about things. He would rather live a truthful life than one that is a false representation of what he knows to be true. Sometimes the most painful realities are the ones we need to face. As jack puts it, if you are scared of the dark but unwilling or unable to get to the light switch to turn on the lights you will never fix your problems or fears. When Jack was getting down on himself his weightlifting coach challenged him to stop feeling sorry for himself and keep being the best version of himself. “Get back here city boy!” shouted one of the three goons, their large and ungainly feet pounded the pavement in pursuit. Were it not for their large plastic Oakley shades, one would no doubt have seen bloodshot and bulging eyes staring out from inside the sockets of those flushed red and huffing faces. “Don’t make us do something we might regret Allison, Boss wants his money!” The goon warned but Jack Allison didn’t listen, and with a bag full of cash in each hand was the leader in this dangerous game of tag. He cut through the Mint Festival’s crowd with impressive footwork for a man of his size and athletic inability, weaving in and out of the most trafficked sections, and ducking into and out of various stalls and booths, trying to lose his tail. Behind him and still in pursuit one of the three goons gasped “He’s headed to the plop!” But it was too little too late, they would never catch him in time and with that realization the goons slowed their run to a walk. In desperation one of them reached into his jacket, but a head shake and a firm hand on his shoulder from the senior goon—the one who spoke before—quelled the murderous intent. “Well what do we do now?” He asked. “Wait and see if this sonofabitch really is as good as he says...” said the senior, and they made their way—much slower this time— after Jack. When Jack reached the “Peppermint Plop” stall still gasping for air he slammed both bags of money onto the betting table and told the attendant, “three turds:” —gasp— “First turd by the barn it’ll start to turtle by first bale,” —gasp and swallow— “second by the fence, turtling by tractor, third is a straight shooter no turtling back where the first was.” The attendant nodded and took the cash, and Jack groaned in relief and sunk to the floor with his back against the table, the sun shining on his upturned bloodied and bandaged face. Suddenly the rays from the sun were blocked out along with the sound of footsteps moving toward him. When the footsteps stopped. Jack opened one swollen eye and then the other, “Gentlemen!” He said and scrambled to his feet to meet the three towering goons. He held his hands out as if trying to pacify wild animals. “Boss is gonna get his money, I promise” Jack then put both of his hands together as if he were about to pray and shook them back and forth as if he were shaking secret dice. “Just—you gotta let me see this through. I’ve got Okie blood in me, I can feel it! We’re gonna win big!” Topics discussed on today's episode include: Dirty Clothes Dirty Soul, Peppermint Plop, Cuomo’s Dumb Wife, Quibi Quatchup, Pfriday and Katie Halper! Jack is a notoriously frugal guy. He never owns more than three pairs of shoes or two pairs of jeans at the same time. He doesn't have expensive tastes and prefers a $1 food truck fish taco to a prime rib. And he drove the same crappy 1998 Toyota Carolla for over almost two decades. When Jack uncharacteristically bought a new (albeit still used) car at the end of last year, he figured he would be done pouring money down the drain for a least a while. But he was wrong. Since November, Jack has suffered a trio of truly befuddling incidents with his car, and now he's scratching his head and footing the bill. Could Jack's misery find some company with a slew of other laughable but expensive mistakes or mishaps? We found out this morning on San Diego's Alternative.
How far would you go to get your hands on fast food gold? For a college cross country team in New York state, it turns out they were willing to go through airport security. When Jack, a professed lover of all things fried, heard about how the gang of hungry students arrived at their plan, how they executed, and the bounty they brought forth from somewhere around Gate F17 of the Albany airport, he knew the bar had been risen forever. How exactly did 18 guys turn a one-way ticket to Florida into a Feast-Fil-A? We found out this morning on San Diego's Alternative.
On the sunnier side of the world and across from a grand trash alley, Jack Allison was preparing for his daily constitutional. “Goodbye Sweet Cait-ly my dear!” He called to the inside of his home, his pipe in one hand and the front door’s knob in the other. “Out for your daily constitutional are you?” called a females voice from within. “Right as rain my little dove!” Said Jack. “Jack Allison you just wait!” Sweet Cait-ly ordered, “don’t you move an inch!” And so Jack held his position, still as a stone until Sweet Cait-ly appeared in the doorway, the adorable head of their little dog Kenny sticking out of her aprons front pocket. “We can’t have you off without your pre-constitutional kiss, now can we?” Sweet Cait-ly asked, the un-tied ribbons of her bonnet swayed as she moved to pose in faux indignation, with her hip cocked to one side and arms held akimbo. She stuck her tongue out at him. “Oh you!” Jack rumbled before breaking into a chuckle, “right you are then, c’mere!” He lifted Sweet Cait-ly up by the waist and spun her --just a bit. She giggled and planted a kiss right on his nose. When Jack set her down, Kenny barked and leapt out of the apron pocket aiming right for Jacks face, he caught her in flight and then lost his balance, “woah!” he shouted before falling back on his rump. “Oh Kenny!” Jack and Sweet Cait-ly said in unison, and then laughter overtook them as Kenny went to work licking Jack’s face all over. Some moments later, when Jack had finished waving goodbye to his two lovely girls, he stood before the sun-spilled path afore him, and with a deep intake of sweet afternoon air, struck out upon the days adventures. “Good day to you Beastmaster!” He said to a man along the way, who was holding the reigns of many dogs, “I trust I shall see you and these fine beasts, at this years Harvest festival eh?” And without waiting for a reply Jack smiled and continued along his merry way, taking several puffs from his pipe. “Good day to you Creamer!” He called to another man at some point further along his travels, the man was in the middle of hawking the sweet creams he held in his wagon to all the young children waiting eagerly in line. Jack passed brightly along, puffing his pipe, clicking his heels and humming a jolly tune. “Ah! Greenthumbs, well met!” Jack hailed to the laborers on the lawn as he strolled by, ”accruing quite the bounty for the apothecary this evening I see!” Jack couldn’t hear their reply due to his whistling of a jolly tune. Feeling the need to recoup some vitality before the long trek home, Jack decided to stop at the nearby potion sellers. The bell chimed softly as Jack strolled through the door. “Ah Rebecca! Good day to you!” He said to one of the two ladies behind the counter, “I desire quite the salubrious brew, for I have traveled far!” “My Lord ‘tis you!” exclaimed Rebecca ”Why I have just the cure for what ails you!” “Oh Rebecca!” Jack said, “Bright as the sun you are, and more radiant by half!” “Oh my Lord but you flatter me!” She said and handed him his drink. He thanked her and departed whistling. “Who was that?” Rebecca’s co-worker —the new hire— asked as she prepared the next order. “ Who Mr. Allison?” Rebecca said as she handed a customer his macchiato. “Oh he’s harmless. Bit of a tragic story really, some ‘kinda accident, had something to do with some studio lights or whatever. Never been the same since. His wife Cait’s a pretty accomplished creator though, definitely rich. She comes in about every week or so and pays ahead of time for his drinks, always promises a fat tip if we, ‘play along’. You’ll get to know her —nice lady.” “Hmm..” replied The new hire as she gazed out of the window. She watched the strange man on his merry jaunt as he puffed happily from his vape.

When Jack accidentally stumbles on Christmastown, all bright colors and warm spirits, he gets a new lease on life -- he plots to bring Christmas under his control by kidnapping Santa Claus and taking over the role. But Jack soon discovers even the best-laid plans of mice and skeleton men can go seriously awry. Favorite line- "Just because I cannot see it doesn't mean I can't believe it." Jen’s story, bringing Mighty Jack into the world… What Jen has to say about her experience… ”You'll need to bring your son to SickKids in the next hour." Those were the words I heard on the phone on March 7, 2018, while holding my 18-day old son as he slept in my arms. The last thing a family rushing off to The Hospital for Sick Children is thinking about is grabbing a camera to take photos. But that's precisely what I did when I frantically packed to get to SickKids after I received that call. The week before this, my son had worn a heart Holter for 24 hours, a device that measures a person's heart rate. The results of that Holter are what prompted the phone call and the urgency to get to SickKids. The week before that he entered the world with the biggest bang that none of us could have expected. I knew there were more issues with my son's heart than we initially thought, even after evidence in utero and hours post-birth. My mama intuition was finally validated. I cried because I had wanted to speak up when we heard it in utero for a couple of seconds, but tried to be a "good pregnant woman" and let the experts do their job. I cried because post-birth I was in such a fog from both an exhaustingly long and traumatic labour and birth and couldn't advocate more for my son - something I learned in hindsight. I cried because his paperwork was lost between hospitals, and we waited far too long to get this information. My son, nicknamed Mighty Jack was resting at 300 beats per minute (bpm) when we arrived at SickKids… A normal heart rate for a newborn is 120-160 bpm. When Jack was 18 days old we were admitted to the inpatient 4D cardiac ward at Sick Kids and spent 4 days monitoring my son on beta-blockers for his congenital heart disease (CHD). My experience becoming a Mother was NOT what I anticipated in any way shape or form. I've grieved the birth into Motherhood I didn't have. It's still tender and still something I'm working on. But from that experience and our time at SickKids, something else was born. @projectmightyhearts was born from trauma. We provide free, compassionate and authentic photography sessions that document the raw experiences of families whose children have CHD's. For every session sold through Jen Allison Photography, one is gifted to a heart family through Project Mighty Hearts. Life doesn't just happen in a photography studio, with perfectly posed infants and colour coordinated outfits. Life happens in the mundane, the magical, and amid struggle. Life happens in hospital rooms, and that life deserves to be documented too. -Jen. For so many, talking about birth stories is so difficult. Trauma is relative to how we feel and I am amazed by how many women are affected by such feelings. All the more reason why listening and being a witness to the stories being told it so important. Thanks Jen for sharing your story with us. I know it wasn’t easy and I thank you for having the courage. To follow more of what Jen is up to go her Instagram @jenallisonphoto and of course, go give @projectmightyhearts some love. Happy listening

Per Fagereng's novel explores America and Portland after Peak Oil John Shuck speaks with radio host and author, Per Fagereng, about his novel, Jack Moloney's Century. The novel covers the 100 year life of Jack Moloney (1980-2080) as he moves from Ireland to Portland with many stops along the way through the world's transition from abundant energy to Peak Oil and beyond. Per hosts the radio show, "Fight the Empire" on KBOO. Per says of himself:"I’m old enough to remember the Brooklyn Dodgers. Worked at a gold mine in Alaska and a Norwegian freighter. Hanging out at a San Francisco tavern got me started in a newspaper career. I’ve been involved with KBOO since around 1980." From the back cover of Jack Moloney's Century: WHAT HAPPENED TO AMERICA? When young Jack Moloney jumped ship in New York in the year 2000 the United States was the world's great power. When Jack died 80 years later the United States was in pieces, and his long life came to an end in a place called Cascadia. Jack Moloney grew up in Derry, in British-occupied Ireland. One night he helped some friends lob a mortar round into an army camp, and the IRA got him out of town. From Ireland to a job on a cruise ship, to New York, Chicago, the Great Plains and Oregon -- Jack lived through a dangerous time in history. Gone were cheap oil, banks and mighty war machines. Now wars were fought by roving bands of armed people on foot. Old nations broke apart and new ones were born in rebellion. Nature itself fought back at human folly. As always, life depended on good land and water, and people to do the work.
Today we speak with one of my favorite people, a mentor and friend, Jack Spirko from The Survival Podcast about lifestyle freedom and liberty. I first found Jack years ago while canning tomatoes. I wanted something to listen to while doing this messy job that would not require me to restart the next podcast. I searched for a podcast on wild edible plants and found Jack and I was hooked. Since that time, I have watched in amazement as he manages to mentor hundreds of thousands of people as they develop lifestyle freedom, survival skills, cooking techniques and more - but we will dive more into that later in the show. Show Resources The Survival Podcast Live tracking for Kurt DarkHorse450 Fundraiser Main content of the show Jack Spirko is founder and podcaster at The Survival Podcast, a daily show about self sufficiency and self reliance in the modern world. He “conceived and created this podcast because over the years I have come to realize how fragile the human condition and the United States economy really is.” But the podcast is much more than a “prepper show.” Jack focuses on helping people develop stability, prosperity and lifestyle freedom into their lives. Before launching the podcast he had successful careers in sales and marketing, and business development. When Jack drops a piece of business advice, it is usually spot on. They say that music hath charms to soothe the savage breast. But like just about everything "they" say, truth is in the eye of the beholder. When Jack and Trixie spend a little time in the company of musicians, the experience is neither particularly charming or remotely soothing. But at least thirty-five dollars a day hath charms to soothe the savage landlord. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
This week on Big Brothers, “Power of” Vito and Adam Poch (Big Brother 13) are excited to finally have an exciting week of Big Brother to talk about. Before last week’s live eviction all hell broke loose within the 6 shooters. They turned on each other 80 minutes before the live show and some brave soul leaked the footage to Twitter. The fight was Christie, Tommy and Jack vs Jackson, Kat and Holly and it was over the possibility of Kat Holly and Jackson knowing each other outside of the house … even though Tommy and Christie are the ones that REALLY know eachother. Christie’s behavior in the house is getting more and more erratic by the day. Jess showed up this week in a big big way and took out the almighty Jack, who seemed like he was in a prime spot to completely dominate the game. Jess won both the HoH and PoV and did what Cliff was unable to do a few weeks prior. When Jack was evicted, Julie Chen grilled him on his controversial comments while in the house. For the first time we got to see an evicted houseguest look at the comments he made and answer for them in front of everyone. Jack also was the recipient of some great goodbye messages from a pair of houseguests happy to see him go.
When Jack gets harassed by Max, the jealous boyfriend of an attractive girl at the Regal Beagle, he fakes his own death in order to get Max off his back. Danko's co-host is his cousin Cameron.

Okay, so now we are back to episode 2 of The Importance of Being Earnest. Here’s the story so far: Jack Worthing is known as Jack in the country, and Ernest in town. He has invented a reprobate brother whom he’s given the name of Ernest. His best friend, Algernon, likewise has an imagined acquaintance named Bunbury, whom he visits when he wants to escape the tedium of town. Jack is in love with Gwendolyn, Angernon’s cousin. But Gwendolyn’s mother, Lady Bracknell, is not to be overlooked. After giving Jack the third degree, it is discovered that Jack doesn’t know who his parents are, and that he was discovered as an infant in a handbag in a railway station. After recommending that Jack acquire some parents post haste, Lack Bracknell has left Jack standing dumbfounded, while Algernon plays the piano in the adjoining room. Meanwhile, Algernon goes to Jack’s country house masquerading as Jack’s profligate brother Ernest. Introducing himself as such, he woos and is quickly engaged to young Cecily, Jack’s ward. When Jack arrives, he demands that Algernon leave, and he feigns to do so. In the mean time, Gwendolyn has traveled to Jack’s house in the country, and meets Jack’s ward, Cecily. Again, Cecily is engaged to Algernon, who introduced himself as Ernest. And Gwendolyn is still persuaded that Jack’s name is Ernest, as she only knows him when he is in London. When Jack trades their milking cow in exchange for some magic beans, his mother is so furious, she sends him to bed without any supper. But overnight the magic beans grow into an enormous beanstalk that Jack climbs up right into the sky and encounters a fierce giant who has lots of treasure. An old English fairytale. (duration - 17 minutes)
They say all's fair in love and war, and Jack and Trixie are about to put that to the test. When Jack finds a drowned rat of a piano player who's both struck by love and several dozen gangsters, love and war don't seem like such different concepts anymore. It's a mad charge into the lion's den, all in the name of romance. Even the hard-boiled have their soft spots. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
Looking back, Jack could see that his relationship with Amanda was over several months ago, perhaps even years. But he was in denial and didn’t want to confront the painful issues that were left unresolved. What was once overlooked, minimized, explained away, or discounted is now an obvious sign of his deteriorating relationship. At first, she seemed so charming, helpful, generous, innocent, and gentle but then things turned, and an entirely different picture became apparent. Charming converted into controlling, helpful developed into obstructive, generous transformed into manipulative, innocent turned into culpable, and gentle grew into turbulent. He was exhausted and worn out but stayed. Then hopeful turned to hopeless and he was no longer able to continue in the relationship. The signs that the relationship was toxic are now clearer once Jack left. But how can he prevent this from happening in the future? Here are the 11 signs he missed. Transfers risk. Amanda asked Jack to assume her risk over a potentially sticky matter. Her job required random drug tests and since she used the prior weekend, she asked Jack to lie about her taking a prescription drug. She was afraid she was going to lose her job and asked him to cover for her. Of course, he could lose his government job for lying about this. But that didn’t matter to Amanda. She demanded that he help using everything from crying, to manipulate, to anger, and finally bribery. Constant victimization. Amanda told stories of past relationships where she was painted as the victim and her ex’s as the villain. Her constant influx of terrible people was used as a justification for not thriving. At first, Jack believed everything Amanda said. But after a while, Amanda’s ability to cut people out of their lives and continue her victimization wore on him. Inappropriate anger. Anger is a base emotion and a catch-all for other more intense feelings such as loneliness, fear, guilt, or controlling tendencies. It can come out in inappropriate ways such as aggression (bullying), suppression (silent treatment) or passive-aggressive (biting sarcasm). Amanda’s outbursts were intense, inappropriate, and designed to force Jack into submission. Jack, who hated conflict, would regularly fold just to keep the peace. Abusive tactics. Several abusive methods surfaced such as twisting the truth, gaslighting, verbal assaults, physical aggression, or guilt-tripping. These are all unhealthy indicators. Amanda would escalate given the right time, motivation, and environment. Any indicator of abuse is a bad sign. Jack was unaware of the abuse signals. His instincts told him something was off, but his logical brain dismissed the feeling and looked no further. Gossip talks. Amanda shared secrets with Jack about other people despite a clear breach of confidentiality. Unfortunately, how Amanda spoke about others was an indicator of how she would speak about Jack. Jack never dreamed that Amanda would spill his long-kept secret about some childhood abuse, but she did. When he confronted her, she justified her actions saying that he was being too sensitive. One-way communication. Jack did most of the work maintaining the relationship. Amanda did not reach out as often as Jack did. Whereas, conversations seem to be weighted in Amanda’s direction. Amanda wanted help with her issues but then wasn’t present for Jack. This lopsidedness bothered Jack, but he did little to confront it. No responsibility. When there was a problem, Amanda refused to apologize and instead blamed things on Jack. Even when she was wrong, Amanda found ways to highlight Jack’s faults to avoid her own responsibility. She also had a lack of empathy for causing harm to Jack but expected empathy from him. Controlling tendencies. Amanda told Jack what to do and how to do it. Even when Jack followed her lead, she would still find the slightest fault with what he did. Then, Amanda would become angry when things weren’t done the way she insisted. There was little to no understanding of Jack’s differences in temperament, personality or circumstances. Absolute agreement. There was no allowance for differing opinions for Amanda. Jack had to agree with her 100% of the time even on sensitive topics such as religion or politics. Any deviation was a personal betrayal and could cause Amanda to escalate. Over time, Jack gave up his opinions in favor of hers just to avoid the tension. Dichotomous expressions. There were only two choices Amanda would give to Jack and both selections tended to be exaggerated extremes. Her choices were presented in black or white versions. There was a right way (usually Amanda’s) and a wrong way. Even when Jack would propose another alternative, Amanda would knock it down. Addictive behaviors. In the beginning, Amanda appeared to have it all together. But as the relationship continued, her abuse of substances became more apparent. When Jack would address her with his concerns, she would explode. Eventually, he learned not to speak about it. If all 11 examples are present in a relationship, it is time to leave. Jack did this and he did not regret his decision. This is potentially an unsafe environment where the longer Jack remained, the worse things would become. However, if there are only a couple of items, be mindful watching for any other additions so an early exit might be possible before things worsen. For more information, visit growwithchristine.com

On today’s episode of Just the Tips, Dean and I welcome two business partners who have been incredibly successful for a number of years. Jack Gibson and Jeff Schechter (aka Shecky) have been killing it for years, and nowadays work together in real estate. But as they discuss in this week’s episode, they wouldn’t be anywhere if they didn’t get their mindset right. On today’s episode, we talk about why entrepreneurs need to be able to take a few lumps, how to build that resilience, and why Shecky celebrated turning 60 by starting a new company. The one key to success for entrepreneurs We don’t let up on Jack and Jeff on this week’s episode of Just the Tips, and so right from the get go I asked them for the one trait every entrepreneur needs to be successful. And Jack summed it up in one word: persistence. Shecky put it a little differently, demanding that entrepreneurs “don’t be a frickin’ baby.” As he said, “You’re going to get kicked in the teeth a lot, and you have to get used to it.” Still want to be an entrepreneur after that? Then keep on listening to this episode of Just the Tips. When Jack and Shecky had to dig down and find their resilience Jack and Shecky talked so much about resilience, I had to ask them for a time when they had to deal with some serious adversity, and how they overcame it. And Jack told us a whopper of a story about a time they were dealing with, as he put it, some “serious, serious fraud” from some former business partners. They had to go back to their investors and pay out several hundred thousand dollars to make them whole again. As they say, it’s been the hardest year for their business, but by keeping the right mindset and supporting each other, they’ve been able to plow through it. How to maintain your focus in the face of adversity So how do Jack and Shecky maintain that focus when everything is coming at them? As we’ve talked about before on this show, they emphasized the need to unplug. Whether it’s meditation or yoga or getting out in nature—or taking a vacation—Shecky reiterated that it’s necessary to withdraw from the business for even just a few minutes at a time. And as they both said, they always try to begin and end every meeting with an inspirational quote or some note of support so they know they have each other’s back even when they’re facing something very difficult. Diversifying your investments There’s no doubt that 98% of an entrepreneur’s energy goes into their business, and 98% of their income comes from that business. But that doesn’t mean that entrepreneurs should just accept that as the way. It’s really important to diversify, as Jack told us on this week’s episode of Just the Tips. You’re going to have ebbs in your business, and having investments in other areas that can bring return can not only stabilize your bank account, but allow you to continue to focus on your business without the stress of worrying about your balance. Jack and Shecky are two true pros, and you’re going to want to hear what they have to say on this week’s episode. Michael welcomes Jack Bouroudjian, legendary trader and economist from UCX in Chicago. When Jack was last with us, it was just before the market bottomed. He told us what the markets needed to turn at Christmas, and he was spot on. He shares what he's looking for next -- and it's something every investor needs to hear. The Speaker says the President isn't worth impeaching; Dan Mahaffee says the Democrats are opting for guerrilla warfare instead of trench warfare. Brexit is back at the top of the headlines, and PM May was walloped in Parliament again. It's yet another impasse for Parliament and there are no easy or obvious solutions. Les Munson adds that the dreams of an independent UK are, ironically, dying on an Irish border. For the third segment, the conversation shifts to China -- and special guest Lester Munson. Does President Xi need a deal more than President Trump? Whether the tariffs have had an impact on the Chinese or not is unclear, and perhaps unimportant. The details of any deal matter, but the details of how to get there might not be.

“Your problem is just that you share your ideas too soon, and with the wrong people.” In this week’s blog, I’m making a case for why you should keep new ideas to yourself for a while, and how to know when it’s OK to share them with others. LET’S GET 2019 OFF TO THE RIGHT START The new year is right around the corner. Cue wide eyes and mild panic! …Or not. Because hey, not every year needs to be a repeat of the last! You’d be amazed by how much can shift in just a few months with a little consistency, accountability, and a willingness to make change. So if you’d like 2019 to be vastly different than 2018 (or 2017, or 2016…), then we’re happy to talk to about the prospect of 1-on-1 coaching. Reach out to us here and we’ll talk it out together.
