There's been a lot of newness in my business and life lately, so I want to anchor in with those of you who've been with me for a while (some of you, a decade!) and to add some BTS to all of you coming into this little corner of the universe. First up: THANK YOU. I don't take one click or sign up or listen for granted. Honestly I'm always amazed when people show up to things. Gigs, classes, I just feel really honored and useful. And having 4 planets in Virgo, UTILITY is a very big deal for me. Next: I thought that I'd do an episode about something short n' sweet and tending to the deep. Me.

I really enjoyed conversing with these co-authors Sandra Hirsh & Jane Kise about their book "Soul Types: Matching Your Personality to Your Spiritual Path." They have devised a testing practice based on the well known Myers Briggs formula that they claim allows one to find a tradition, religion, practice, etc. that seems to resonate. I was impressed with their research. It made for a good discussion. 1st aired in 2006.

IN THIS WEEK'S EPISODE WE CHAT ABOUT: How I realized I had postpartum depression: In the the 3-4 months after it’s call the baby blues but I realized that it went further than that and I self diagnosed myself. And there is a test online that you can take and answer the questions and it will identify if you have it. I went to my doctor and she gave me information about it. I thought I could cure it myself, which is really hard. I realized in order for me to be a good mom to start with, I had to know I was never going to be a perfect mom. And I had to have love for myself to give my kids. There’s always something to learn and you have to know that this can happen to you. You can’t do everything and that’s okay. Just be the best you can be. Have grounding practices. 3 self care rituals you can’t live without: Give myself a timeout (I give my kids boundaries) Being still (listening) Yoga (movement) Essential oils (bonus ritual) Book Recommendations: White Hot Truth: Clarity for Keeping It Real on Your Spiritual Path from One Seeker to Another Hardcover by Danielle LaPorte Big Magic: Creative Living Beyond Fear by Elizabeth Gilbert 3 Levels of Reiki - Reiki Level 1: The First Degree (On yourself), Reiki Level 2: Second Degree (On others), Reiki Level 3: Third Degree & Reiki Master (virtual) 3 things I am grateful for: I see women like you gathering and inspiring strong passionate individuals. #034 — Truthbombs on Parenting, Entrepreneurship and Pleasure with Danielle LaPorte “They’re not yours. They are their own soul, and you get the honor of caring for them. They’re their own person, and it is not their job to please you in any way, shape or form.” Danielle LaPorte’s intuitive nature informs her parenting style, and she shares her spirituality with her son—despite the eye rolling. In fact, her parenting journey began with an overwhelming desire to be a mom that she followed as soon as it arrived, despite the fact that this didn’t fit into her predetermined life plan. And knowing that she might have to live off credit cards for the first two or three years. Danielle’s next-level understanding of consciousness is the foundation of her parenting philosophy, a philosophy that includes truthbombs like: no shaming, no lying, no psychological game-playing and no pushing your child to be what YOU want. Rather, Danielle encourages parents to pay attention to what their children love and avoid the cynicism and sarcasm. Today Danielle shares her parenting and entrepreneurial journeys, explaining how the two paths coincide and develop together. She offers her insight on parenting, speaking to the phases, the physical exhaustion and the decisions of what to share (and not share) with your kids. I ask Danielle about the solitude of entrepreneurship and solo parenting, the significance of cultivating adult female friendships, and the value of meditation and pleasure in living a full life. Listen in and learn how to develop a parenting style that is informed by your belief system and honors you child’s soul. Author, Visionary, & Oprah SuperSoul100 leader, Danielle LaPorte, isn’t risk averse. No. She’s “risk erotic.” But that doesn’t mean she didn’t get a not-so-little unwelcome surprise after choosing to walk from a Big 5 publisher and go rogue to self-publish her latest book, WHITE HOT TRUTH: Clarity for Keeping It Real on Your Spiritual Path from One Seeker to Another. Linda and bestselling author Dani Shapiro (9 books; currently on tour for HOURGLASS: Time, Memory, Marriage)chat with D about what taking big risks really looks like when the realities of funding your mission, your art in the world, test your “limits.” This is what Danielle calls the teeth of entrepreneurship. Three writers. Two on book tour. All mothers with sons. On today’s episode, they get real and really vulnerable about: Tradeoffs and damn hard parenting lessons learned (stuff you can’t take back and don’t ever want to regret); the fear of not looking pretty enough on stage; why confidence is not necessarily a writer’s friend; the courage it takes to step into a bigger arena (where the stakes keep getting higher), and how writing is like a lover who waits for you (who sometimes argues!). They talk, too, about not having a Plan B; the GIFTS that come from saying no because of your values, health, or family priorities; what goes on Instagram and what doesn’t; how to find the spine of your book—the rhythm of things, and being in total effing denial about time. As you listen to Danielle say: “I’m so done with not having fun in getting where I want to go,” think about how that can be your new mantra. About how, via her example, you can walk and write lighter and brighter. Write on. Welcome.
Today we have an amazing chat with our special guest and friend, Danielle LaPorte. “Being your true self is the most effective formula for success there is.“Danielle LaPorteFrom fire walks to ice baths and juice cleanses to intermittent fasting, silent retreats, talk therapy and everything in between, the world of personal development is limitless. And that's not counting all the podcasts, audiobooks, online courses, weekend seminars, weeklong symposiums, webinar tutorials and mastermind intensives that can occupy a well-intentioned seeker dawn to dusk for the next 10,000 years.Beyond the overwhelm, the self-help universe is fraught with snake oil slinging charlatans obfuscating truth from fiction — and all too often salvation from predation.Efforts to divine truth from bullshit render imperfect results. Anxiety ensues. To cope, we double down on improving upon our self-improvement until we wake up one day and realize what began as a laudable quest for growth has suddenly become an obsessive malignancy — a sort of spiritual eating disorder gnawing away on our very soul.Danielle LaPorte has been there. And she's got a message for you:You're the answer to your question.Named to Oprah’s inaugural SuperSoul 100, Entrepreneur magazine calls Danielle equal parts poet and entrepreneurial badass. I call her a powerful force of nature — a teacher, a leader and a mom who also happens to be a lauded public speaker, multiple bestselling author and doyenne of blogging for millions at DanielleLaPorte.com, which Forbes calls the best place online for kickass spirituality.Honest, accessible and authentic to the core, Danielle's books include The Fire Starter Sessions: A Soulful + Practical Guide to Creating Success on Your Own Terms* and The Desire Map: A Guide to Creating Goals with Soul*. Her newest book, which hits shelves everywhere May 16 and is available for pre-order now, is entitled White Hot Truth: Clarity for Keeping It Real on Your Spiritual Path from One Seeker to Another*. A high recommend, it's a fun and accessible rollercoaster ride through the machinations of personal growth, the pitfalls of spiritual glamour and the self-criticism that too often accompanies self-help to deliver a powerful edict: you are your own guru.A beacon of compassion, Danielle is an extraordinary human. A woman devoted to helping people transcend their limitations, access their potential, and truly self-actualize. It was an honor to finally sit down with her and talk it all out. This is a fun, deep and deeply fun dive into Danielle’s divine path. It's an exploration of self-help adventures gone wrong and the breakthroughs that make it all worth it. It's about what happens when spirituality becomes a to do list. And why sometimes we have to fall for lies in order to discover our truth.Ultimately, it's not how you seek spiritual growth, it's why you seek it. Answer this, and you are on the path to becoming your own guru. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
Danielle LaPorte is an invited member of Oprah’s Super Soul 100, a group who, in Oprah Winfrey’s words, “is uniquely connecting the world together with a spiritual energy that matters.” She is author of White Hot Truth: Clarity for Keeping It Real on Your Spiritual Path—from One Seeker to Another, The Fire Starter Sessions and The Desire Map: A Guide To Creating Goals With Soul—the book that has been translated into eight languages, evolved into a yearly day planner system, a top 10 iTunes app, and an international workshop program with licensed facilitators in 15 countries. Her website has been named one of the “Top 100 Websites for Women” by Forbes. During this very nourishing conversation we explore topics such as discipline as a path to liberation, how the “lie of inadequacy” drives so many poor decisions and how softness and tenderness could be one of the signs of genuine spiritual maturity.
In today's show we discussed the follow: Spiritual activism and the dangers of apathy within the spiritual community His book, Combing The Mirror, and other steps in your spiritual path. Kevin discusses one of the book's chapters where he goes into Soul Groups, Soul Agreements, Reincarnation, taking personal responsilbilty and also checking your belief systems or BS for short to see if you are believing in something that no longer serves you. Book info: Combing the Mirror (and other Steps in Your Spiritual Path) by Dr. Kevin Ross Emery ISBN 1-890405-20-5 This light-hearted book takes an in-depth look at how to address the patterns in your life which keep you disempowered. Learn to release your past, stay present in your present and create the future you deserve and desire. Filled with experiential exercises, this book allows the reader to learn and apply the techniques that Dr. Emery has used for many years in his successful spiritual counseling and spiritual coaching work. Through simple, yet powerful techniques train yourself to take back your life. This book forms the basis of the powerful Combing The Mirror Coaching (TM) sessions in which participants work with a trained coach, in person or via telephone, to help apply the exercises contained in the book. Unlike many "self-help" books, Combing The Mirror addresses the issue that information without action is useless. Thus, the issues discussed and uncovered in the book are linked with powerful; practical exercises designed to help the reader actualize the insights they receive. The author jokingly refers to these sections as "Homework . . . the longest four letter word," and urges every reader to take the time to apply what they learn.
