Have you ever wondered what separates manufactured experiences from authentic adventures? Fresh from spinning teacups and crowded pathways at Disneyland with my adult son, I found myself contemplating the profound difference between engineered entertainment and the raw reality of motorcycle journeys through wild places.Disneyland stands as a marvel of imagination and customer service—a meticulously crafted illusion where every detail from the synchronized parades to the impossibly clean streets creates a seamless fantasy world. We pay a premium for this predictability, knowing exactly where our next thrill will come from and confident in our safety throughout. It's entertainment perfection by design.Contrast this with throwing a leg over an adventure motorcycle and heading into the Colorado Rockies, where nothing is choreographed and everything is gloriously unpredictable. Weather changes in minutes, dusty trails transform unexpectedly, and real challenges emerge without warning. Yet it's precisely these unscripted moments that deliver the deepest rewards—a profound sense of self-reliance, genuine connection with nature, and the meditative clarity that comes only when we're fully present. While Disneyland offers instant gratification, motorcycle journeys offer transformation. This isn't about declaring one experience superior to another—my time bonding with my son at Disneyland was genuinely precious. Rather, it's about recognizing that different journeys serve different purposes in our lives. Sometimes we need the fantasy and escape of perfectly engineered experiences. But for those seeking genuine transformation, perhaps the happiest place on earth isn't found where everything goes according to plan, but rather where the pavement ends and the wild begins. What kind of adventure are you seeking next?Support the show

In this episode, Will Guidara, who's a former co-owner of 11 Madison Park, which was once named the best restaurant in the world, the author of Unreasonable Hospitality and advisor on the hit series The Bear, shares how he transformed a restaurant into the best in the world not through perfection but through moments of radical hospitality. Whether it was sending out hot dogs on fine China or designing hand signals to pour water silently. It was never only about the food, it was about making people feel seen. This is a conversation about joy, about seeing service not as subservience, but as nobility and the kind of creativity that invites connection. The Tao Te Ching is one of those books I keep coming back to. Ancient wisdom, wrapped in poetry, that somehow feels more relevant every year. Like this line: “If you look to others for happiness, you will never be happy. Ekkk Happy Christmas Eve!!! I hope your week is starting off great as we all patiently wait for the big guy to come down the chimney! I wanted to drop a brand new pod episode into your inbox for you to listen to while you finish your gift wrapping and last minute "to-do's". In Episode 188, I share THE BEST gift you can give yourself and others this Christmas and how you can find magic in recovery this holiday. ~ So yesterday I was at Santa with my boys and it hit me. While everyone around us was rushing, stressed about perfect pictures and checking their phones, my kids were just Present. It was like time stood still to them. They were living in the pure magic of the moment as they waited in line to see Santa. And it got me thinking about how often we miss these precious moments. My kids are 6 and 10 and I look at it as a very pivotal year because I am hanging on to my 10 year old with the expectation that he's always going to want to stand in that line. And the reality sis, is I know that we're on the last leg of moments like that one. How about your reality? Well when you're struggling with an eating disorder, it literally sucks all the good moments from your life. So many moments are missed because you are caught up in those eating disorder thoughts. So many moments I missed. And so I wanted to bring you this episode today not to be a negative Scrooge. But actually quite the opposite. It's time to take a stand against spending ONE more Christmas at war with your body! No more giving your best gift away for a false sense of control. And that gift, friend? TIME. ~ The boys and I went to a family gathering last night after Santa, one that in past years would have sent me into a tailspin. I mean, yes, it was the kind with all the festive dishes, a charcuterie board, espresso martinis, all the tasty festive treats, enter the cookies, the brownies, the shortbread...there was banana pudding. It was amazing! And while my recovered-self enjoyed every bite of nourishment. I couldn't help but realize just how fast time flies. I questioned myself, "do I live here in all the right now moments? Or am I living back there and how it used to be or fast forward to what hasn't even arrived yet?" I don't know about you, but I want to remember all these moments that I have left, all of them. It's so important to really get real and present with ourselves. And that's what I wanted to do was to question your current state.  If you are feeling drained, overwhelmed, and maybe the holidays are just not your thing because of past traumas, or because of the eating disorder or because of lost loved ones. I totally get that, but there is still something so magical about this time of year. Here's the thing. The magic of recovery, just like the magic of Christmas, it happens in the NOW. It happens in the present. And it happens when we choose to be here, even when it's super, super uncomfortable.  So my hope for your this holiday is that you LIVE in the PRESENT and make a commitment to your future self to get the help and support you need to combat your eating disorder. We all experience grief around the holidays, and it's so important to leave space to process it. En: The wind played with the dry leaves, dancing behind the trees dressed in the colors of autumn. En: The Pirineus, majestic and ancient, stretched out before Jordi with roads winding up and down, like a painting waiting to be created. En: Jordi, an artist thirsty for inspiration, had ventured into this natural world seeking new muses for his palette of emotions. En: It was a cool day, just a few days before the Diada de Sant Llúcia, a festivity that always stirred magic in his heart. En: But this time, that magic seemed to drift away, hiding as if afraid of the world. En: With his eyes fixed on the road, Jordi listened to the car radio. En: The robotic voice interrupted the soft music to issue a warning: "Attention!Ca: Una forta tempesta s'apropa als Pirineus.En: A strong storm is approaching the Pirineus. En: Recognize the risk of traveling on these roads.Ca: Mantingueu-vos a resguard si us és possible. En: He knew that by straying from his path, he could find safer shelters, but something inside him urged him to continue. En: "Perhaps this storm hides the secret I'm looking for," he thought, as his heart began to beat with a mix of fear and fascination. En: With determination, he pressed on, delving deeper into the arms of the mountain. En: The sky began to weigh like lead, and the black clouds positioned themselves like guards over the heights. En: The rain became his traveling companion, dragging rivers along the roadside. En: Jordi focused more, fighting against the fear that the earth itself might give him a lesson.Ca: De sobte, la carretera va tremolar.En: Suddenly, the road shook. En: A deep, muffled sound, like thunder, filled the air. En: A landslide spread before him, separating the path. En: In a reflex, Jordi turned the steering wheel, diverted the car's path, and ended up in a small clearing, safe but off the road. En: There he was, surrounded by silences that only nature can offer. En: Before him, the rain had washed away the mist, revealing a breathtaking view. En: The mountains unfolded like sleeping giants, and a rainbow arched across the sky like a promise. En: Jordi took out his sketchbook, and for the first time in months, he felt the creative spark burn intensely within him. En: As the stroke of the pencil captured the lines of nature, Jordi realized that he had found what he was looking for. En: Uncertainty was no longer his enemy, but his muse. En: This unexpected moment, full of surprise and beauty, reminded him that art is a combination of risk and discovery. En: And so, Jordi returned home with much more than new drawings. En: He carried with him a new understanding. En: The emotional pirates that banished certainty were now allies for his creativity.Ca: Sant Llúcia arribaria ben aviat, i aquesta vegada, Jordi
