A podcast at the intersection of faith, race, and reconciliation. People of faith should be leaders of reconciliation however historically issues of race and culture seem to get in the way of rising above differences to find common ground through reconciliation. We discuss those challenges and sometimes we may also stray onto different topics but we'll always come back to reconciliation.

Send us a Text Message about the podcastFear powers our immigration debates. We hear it in political rhetoric, see it in policy decisions, and witness its impact on millions of lives. But what lies beneath this fear? Is it justified? And how can we move beyond it?Today's episode delves into the complex emotions that drive our responses to immigrants and refugees. We start by clarifying important distinctions – who qualifies as an immigrant versus a refugee or asylum seeker – while acknowledging sobering statistics: 123 million people worldwide have been forced from their homes, with 44 million classified as refugees. These aren't faceless masses but individuals with dreams, fears, and stories that deserve to be heard. We explore a rarely discussed immigration pathway: "citizenship by investment" programs allowing wealthy individuals to purchase legal status for $100,000-$500,000. This creates a two-tiered system where some can bypass the very lines others are told to wait in patiently. Meanwhile, misinformation fuels negative stereotypes about immigrants "stealing jobs" or "draining resources," despite consistent evidence showing immigration's positive economic impacts. For people of faith, this conversation demands alignment between spiritual values and social perspectives. We cannot claim to love God while discriminating against our neighbors. Support the show#abovethenoise24# faith#reconciliation#race#racialreconciliationWe appreciate your support: Buy Me A CoffeeStay in touch: Email us at: abovethenoise24@gmail.com Facebook: @abovethenoise24 Instagram: abovethenoise24 Podcast art by Mario Christie.

Send us a Text Message about the podcastWhen four friends tear open a roof to lower their paralyzed companion to Jesus, they demonstrate what truly matters in our faith journey – enduring empathy that refuses to give up on people. Pastor Grantley Martelly unpacks this powerful story from Mark 2, revealing how these determined friends teach us about walking alongside others until they can encounter Jesus for themselves. In a world reeling from wars, persecution, natural disasters, and even a "loneliness epidemic," we're called not to retreat into our comfortable spiritual bubbles but to bring the world's pain to the throne of grace. While we can't control global turmoil, we absolutely can control who we bring people to meet. That's the heart of enduring empathy – demonstrating such a deep understanding of God's goodness that we're compelled to lend our faith to others until they develop their own.The paralytic's friends didn't tell him about Jesus – they physically carried him there. Their determination reveals what true discipleship requires: persisting through barriers, causing necessary disruption, and believing that an encounter with Jesus changes everything. Most striking is Jesus' response: "When he saw their faith" – not the paralyzed man's. Sometimes people need to borrow our faith until they find their own. Jesus first addressed the man's spiritual needs before his physical condition, showing that true transformation happens from inside out. Are we willing to walk alongside the messy, the broken, the difficult? Or have we become "too holy to be Christ-like," forgetting that Jesus met us in our own mess? Salvation without discipleship is just cheap grace. The Christian walk was never meant to be solitary but about journeying together through the unexpected. Will you tear up some roofs to bring others to the One who transforms?#empathy     #discipleshipSupport the show#abovethenoise24# faith#reconciliation#race#racialreconciliationWe appreciate your support: Buy Me A CoffeeStay in touch: Email us at: abovethenoise24@gmail.com Facebook: @abovethenoise24 Instagram: abovethenoise24 Podcast art by Mario Christie.

We can no longer afford to allow communities of faith to be incubators of abuse and sexual exploitation.  We can no longer allow this plague to proliferate in the name of protection the institution of the church, pastors, cheap grace and false doctrine. Rev. Dr. Charles “Buddy” Parish is the pastor of First Baptist Church in Sweet Water, Florida. Our conversation today centers on reconciliation. His passion to see believers be reconciled to each other across racial and ethnic lines has taken him to unusual places to see and learn how reconciliation can be possible when we are intentional. Building relationships with others who may not look like us, speak like us, or who have been our enemies begin with conversation and relationship. There can be no reconciliation without confession. No people of any race, ethnicity, tribe, or religion are a monolithic group. We must get to know each other while at the same time realizing that there are also community or institutional systems that also need to be reconciled.Stay in touch: Email us at: abovethenoise24@gmail.com Facebook: @abovethenoise24 Instagram: abovethenoise_gm Podcast art by Mario Christie.

Ghislain Bugingo is a refugee from the Democratic Republic of Congo whose parents escaped the Rwandan genocide of 1994. Zeytun Ahmed came to the US from Kenya and her parents are from Somalia and Ethiopia. These families were given a new start in the US and their children have used their struggles as stepping stones to avenues to accomplish more than seems possible in this short time. With faith in God and strong family support, Ghislain and Zeytun are about to change the world. You will be encouraged and inspired by their stories. Roe vs. Wade - An Editorial

There is a debate waging as to the future of legalized abortion in the United States of America. As a result of a leaked draft of a working document from the Supreme Court of the United States, people on both sides of this debate that has been ongoing for over a century are anticipating preparing for a decision eminently. For some people of faith, the abortion issue is their line in the sand. For others, it is a debate that will never be settled regardless of the court's opinion. In this editorial, I present the issue in a larger form: abortion is not about a court decision, it is a decision made by people for a myriad of reasons. Whether we support legalized abortion is not as important as how we treat those with whom we disagree and it pales in comparison to how we treat those who choose to have an abortion. I also argue that children need more than to be born; they need to be loved, thrive, and live free from harm.

All these together have had an effect on how we as a community redefine function in the new reality and for institutions of higher learning the effect has been complicated and challenging.
