As wildfires siege LA County, we turn our attention to the community of Altadena, where a vibrant community of black folk have lived for generations. The neighborhood has been deeply impacted by the wildfires in an incredibly and unimaginable way. Pastor G. LaKeith Kenebrew of the Hillside Church of God in Christ in Altadena joins us to share his experiences in the fire. A part of the church property was burned  and Pastor lost his home as did other members of his family. And yet, he and others are strong on the street organizing, coordianating and wanting to be a service to the people. This is an incredible story of resilience, service and steadfast faith. #altadena #wildfires

Cornerstone Church - Airdrie

This week, Pastor Brad concluded our series on the vision for Hillside Church with a powerful message on what it means to Know His Power. We explored the incredible, transformational impact of Gods power in our lives, using the story of Sauls conversion to Paul as a vivid example. Through this, we were reminded of how Gods power can radically change our hearts, purpose, and direction, just as it did for Paul. Music: 'Move of God' - SEU Worship

This week, Pastor Brad introduced a new sermon series, exploring the vision God has for Hillside Church and the lives of our church family. Grounded in the Apostle Paul's prayers for believers, we are focusing on four essential aspects that form the foundation of our churchs vision: Knowing God, Knowing His Hope, Knowing His Purpose, and Knowing His Power. In this first message, Pastor Brad emphasized the importance of truly knowing Godnot just in a theoretical sense but through a personal and profound experience of His presence in our daily lives. Music: 'Move of God' - SEU Worship

Last Sunday was an extraordinary time as we welcomed six students from our Hillside Church family to share what God has been teaching them. Each speaker had just five minutes, but the impact was profound. It was truly inspiring to hear about the work God is doing in their lives and the messages He has placed on their hearts to share with our congregation. It is a powerful testament to the faith and devotion within our community, and we believe it will bless and encourage you. In this episode, Jason had the privilege of sitting down and having a conversation with his very first pastors—Angel and Durwin Gray, who played a crucial role in shaping his pastoral imagination during his formative years. Angel and Durwin have been serving as pastors at Hillside Church for 25 years, and they generously shared with us the joys, challenges, and insights they have gained throughout their journey. They delve into the profound meaning of being called to a specific place and community, navigating feelings of doubt and imposter syndrome, and embracing parenting as the primary avenue of discipleship amid the demands of ministry. Angel and Durwin emanate joy, care, sincerity, and reflect the hope of Christ for the world. Enjoy this insightful conversation, and if it sparks any thoughts about the individuals or experiences that shaped your pastoral imagination, feel free to share them in the comments or send us a message at contact@ccln.ca. Bio | Durwin and Angel were university sweethearts and have been married now for 31 years. They have two young adult sons, Caleb and Noah, and they help make the Gray household a little on the loud side. The Gray's are a pretty tight-knit family who tend to love films, road trips, and the band Coldplay. Thirty plus years ago, Angel and Durwin got involved in church planting, and helped plant the church Durwin now pastors, called Hillside Community Church in Coquitlam. Week 32 - Appreciating and Celebrating! You can read or listen on my blog - barbarafaison.com/blog Life is a journey. A trip. A deck of cards. Life defies a single definition because moment by moment, life changes. Life is different for each person every moment. Just as life changes, we change and grow based on our experiences.  Life simply is. Being alive is cause for celebration! Take a moment to think of a reason to celebrate. Treat yourself to something because you met a goal – celebrate! Perhaps you didn't use your cell phone when you were having a meal. CELEBRATE! Every day find reasons to be grateful for life and celebrate! Sometimes it's just as simple as not beating yourself up about something you did. Now that is cause for a major celebration. Think about the music you've listened to, the movies you've seen, the friends in your life and how they may have changed over the years. Treat yourself to something you enjoy. You deserve it. Affirm this: I celebrate life and I am grateful for all my life experiences. That was Celebrate Everything, an excerpt from my book, Why Struggle? Life is too short to wear tight shoes. I'm celebrating Kym Kennedy, Spiritual Teacher, Radical Forgiveness Coach and Scrabble Enthusiast. Back around 2008ish, I met Kym at the Single's Ministry at Hillside Church. Kym has introduced me to so many of my current practices, one of which is a powerful tool called radical forgiveness. A tool is only helpful when you decide to use it. Over the past 15 years I have learned so much from watching Kym truly embody using her tools and practices while offering her loving guidance to me and so many others. Kym has been a friend, mentor and supporter of my work as a meditation ambassador and I am grateful for her kind, loving encouragement. Kym said she wanted to laugh for her birthday and celebrate with friends... and that's what we did. Sunday was Kym's birthday so a beautiful gathering of friends celebrated with her birthday at a brunch at the Uptown Comedy Corner. One of our friends, Lisa Zunzanyika gave Kym, a framed gift that was the word LOVE made from Scrabble tiles that read, ”LOVE only worth 7 in the game but priceless in this house.” Gathering together with friends, enjoying the music and laughter was a lovely way to celebrate Kym. It reminds me that LOVE IS IT. LOVE IS what life is ALL about.  I am so grateful for the love of my family, friends and supporters. Today I am celebrating this unpredictable journey called life and my dear friend, Kym Kennedy for who she is and all the lives she continues to touch by just being who she is. Oh, and Kym and I won gifts as part of a raffle. Kym won a piece of jewelry and I won a delicious body scrub by Wazuri. We were having so much fun we forgot to take a group picture... you can see a video some of us singing to I Like it by Debarge here. So who or what are you celebrating? Feel free to reach out to me at Barbarafaisonllc@gmail.com or direct message me on social media, Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn are best. Between Us: Stories of Unconscious Bias

Richard Thomas and his wife Susanna have led Hillside Church in Wimbledon for 27 years, where he is the pastor. Richard also serves as chaplain to The Priory Hospital, the Royal Marsden Hospital and Cancer Centre London. He is passionate about how we respond spiritually in our darkest hours. "Historically, epilepsy was believed to be caused by demons. So that automatically put anybody who had a seizure, or a fit, as in the evil camp. Now we sort of know that it's caused by an electrical imbalance in the brain. But still, it's a disease that's stigmatised and looked down upon. I remember when I was diagnosed, the doctor could not have done a worse job of telling me. He almost couldn't look me in the eye. He avoided any deep conversation about it and I was in and out of the office in just a few minutes, and then saw him treating an old lady with so much tenderness and care. I wondered what was wrong with me and, of course, it was epilepsy."

He speaks of voluntary displacement - making room for a broader diversity of voices, and coming to grips with difficult realizations that challenge one's version of the truth. He continues to point out ways that people of faith can engage the community in productive and mutually beneficial ways because in times of need people of faith need to collaborate to make a difference. All of God's purposes are not antithetical to the same purposes of the people who are serving in the community. When there is nothing more anyone can do, our last-ditch effort is to Pray? In this episode, Larry asks his guests some honest questions about Prayer. Brenda Kilber is Co-Director of Gateway Prayer Ministries, and an Ordained Minister. Carol Madison is the Director of Prayer Ministries at Hillside Church in Bloomington, Minnesota, and Editor of Prayer Connect Magazine. Brenda and Carol share how they understand Prayer as a great asset to living our Christian lives. Challenging the Culture with Truth with Larry Kutzler and Esteemed Guests. https://www.citysitesurbanmedia.com/

In this episode Tahmina Martelly of World Relief explains the connections between social and environmental justice, and how they play out in her work with immigrants and refugees. As a community developer, she prioritizes the voices of the poor and marginalized, and collaborates with them to create solutions to food deserts, the absence of greenspaces, and the challenges of being landless. The community garden that they have built together has become a center for multicultural community, where people celebrate ethnic, cultural, economic, and religious diversity. Tahmina also addresses resistance among some religious folks to matters of global warming and climate change, and challenges us to think about the sort of grace it takes to model a different approach to creation care. One of the ways that our divine partnership with God is expressed is through our service of him and of people. Our family, Hillside Church, is filled with incredible people who serve so well, and it is this culture we would love to see develop and grow as we anticipate our growth in 2020 and beyond. Jesus taught us that serving is a critical part of being in his family, not so that we would then in turn serve only him, but our neighbours too. - A Sunday morning message Connect with us Website : www.hillside.org.za Instagram : www.instagram.com/wearehillside Facebook : www.facebook.com/wearehillside Email : info@hillside.org.za

Incredible message by Tim Holmes, former Pastor of Hillside Church which about half of Grace Culture Family used to attend...Tim's gift is a disarming one.  He shares from the parable of the sower and puts it in a light for us that really helps us focus on the healthy things in our lives, and redirect our energy there.  Is what our minds feed on helping us be our best selves for our families?  Our friends?  Is it helping us move forward and grow?

Dr. Bob Bakke is the teaching pastor of Hillside Church, Bloomington, MN. He and his wife Sally have a daughter and three sons, a son-in-law, a daughter-n-law, four grandchildren and a black lab. A graduate of Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary, Bob spent fourteen years serving Connecticut and New Jersey churches. For another twelve years he served as an Executive Director of the Evangelical Free Church of America, promoting prayer and spiritual awakening. He is a student of history, an author, and a producer of national television and radio simulcasts. For ten consecutive years, Bob produced The Nationally Broadcast Concert of Prayer; a radio, television and Internet simulcast on the evening of the National Day of Prayer. Because his life verse is Habakkuk 2:14, in 2004 he helped found the Global Day of Prayer, producing television and radio broadcasts that covered the earth. Bob's work has afforded millions of Christians the opportunity to pray together.  It was celebrated in 220 nations and territories at tens of thousands of locations. In 2012, Bob joined a small group of leaders and helped launch OneCry, a fledgling movement of Christians who are mobilizing and uniting for the purpose of seeing revival come to the American Church.  In the first two years, Bob's radio specials called The OneCry Prayer Summits, have grown to nearly 525 stations.  To remind Americans and encourage believers, he is presently researching and writing for a major film on America's Second Great Awakening (1800), the most important revival in the nation's history. As one who honors the local pastorate as the highest calling, Bob returned to the pastorate in 2007 but uses his gifts as a preacher, teacher, networker and tactician for promoting, forging and cultivating prayer-based movements, domestically and internationally.
