I'm a big believer in learning from history. Understanding our mistakes and our wins from the past can help give us guidance for the here and now. In this episode, I sit down with presidential historian Paul Brandus, a historian, journalist, and frequent speaker at presidential libraries, for a look at why we're in the situation we're in, vis-à-vis Europe, Russia, and Ukraine, today. Paul and I also talk about some of his books, including Jackie: Her Transformation from First Lady to Jackie O, in which he tells us all about the challenges she faced as a single mother in the years after her husband had been assassinated and prior to marrying Aristotle Onassis. Join us for this deep dive into European and US history with an added bonus of Jackie O. For more from Paul, you can follow him on Twitter, @westwingreport. Follow me @trish_regan. Amid major market volatility, investors question whether we're about to see a repeat of the year 2000 in tech stocks. In this crucial edition of American Consequences, I sit down with famed hedge fund investor Whitney Tilson to explain why now might be the best time to buy tech stocks. He's naming names – or rather tickers – and helping people think through the implications of getting into solid growth companies. I most especially loved hearing how Whitney Tilson got his start. He managed to take $10,000 in savings and grow it into a $200-million hedge fund. He told me all about some of the bumps he's had along the way and why he's so committed to helping individual investors grow their portfolios. Whitney has some really entertaining stories that I know you will love hearing… not to mention some darn good picks. Sign up for Whitney's free investment newsletter at empirefinancialresearch.com. In today's podcast, Trish Regan sits down with Empire Financial Research's Herb Greenberg to examine how Elon might change the social media landscape… forever. Herb also shares his important thoughts on how investors can recognize great value plays long before the Twittersphere world has even heard of these companies in a viral social media environment. Everyday investors need to know where the “hot stocks” are long before they're known to the public. This is what Herb specializes in… and he's sharing his ideas with Trish today. Interest rates are rising and are expected to increase in the coming months. It could be time to rethink your portfolio allocation since the fixed income market may, in time, look considerably more attractive. In this episode of American Consequences, Trish Regan speaks with Neil Grossman – a former physicist, mathematician, corporate attorney, central banker, and hedge fund investor – who says, "The Fed has done just about everything wrong. It's continually buried its head in the sand, refusing to recognize that too much money in the system inevitably leads to inflation." This week, we got proof of the consequences of too much stimulus by way of an 8.5% increase in consumer prices. Grossman points out that the Fed may find itself having to pull a "Paul Volcker," meaning a higher-than-expected escalation of interest rates. While that may cause a pullback in equities, Grossman points out it may also be a healthy opportunity to rethink one's fixed income portfolio.
As gold and oil inch higher in global markets amid ongoing challenges overseas, Trish sits down with Kevin Rich, one of the original architects of some of the world's most important ETFs in the commodity space. Rich tells Trish to “prepare for more volatility and a higher interest rate environment” while conflicts overseas continue. How should investors think about their portfolios and how can they safeguard their assets best? Listen to this edition of American Consequences with Trish Regan to find out.
If the horror of what is transpiring in Ukraine and Russia has taught us anything, it's that we need to be self-reliant. It is critical for our domestic, economic, and national security that we turn back to ourselves. It's one of the reasons why Trish is so bullish on the long-term health of America. In this podcast, Trish is joined by Mark Moss, Market Analyst and Host of Market Disruptors, who argues that the phase we are now in, “this move towards domestic, economic, and national security,” is to be expected. We've allowed ourselves to veer off course (for relying on Russia for an energy supply) and are getting an opportunity to "Reset." Find out what it means for your investments and why it's so critical to go local in this new prosperous, grounded future in this week's episode.
As tensions escalate between Russia and Ukraine, Trish sits down with noted geopolitical and macroeconomics strategist Marko Papic, Partner and Chief Strategist at the Clocktower Group, to look at how to best position your portfolio. Papic warns the Fed may not be able to raise rates as quickly as it intended, given the increasing threat of recession. "Energy prices," he says, "will continue to escalate, providing a positive environment for energy investing." Other sectors he likes include materials and Real Estate, but he warns it will be a delicate balance between the inflation heading our way and the danger that could cause a massive consumer pullback. Find out how to best position your portfolio amid these ongoing challenges. With the Fed finally moving on interested rates, Trish Regan sits down with noted investor, physicist and former central banker, Neil Grossman, for a look at the massive inflation creeping into our economy. According to Neil, the Fed is very much at fault. In fact, he tells her, "Jerome Powell is the financial equivalent of COVID." Neil argues that Powell "has created a kind of eco-demic... a pandemic for our economy." This is an important warning from Neil Grossman who argues inflation may consistently top 5% per year over the next decade. How can you protect yourself? Listen in as Trish and Neil talk through some strategies.
Trish is joined by Dr. David Eifrig, editor of Retirement Millionaire, who says recent events have caused him to grow quite bearish. His models predicted massive inflation as much as eight months ago…now, that time is here. How can you protect your investments? How can you manage volatility to your advantage? Doc has some insightful answers in this spirited discussion with Trish. You can get more from Doc and access his free presentation online at “InflationWarning.com,” as well as access to his newsletters.

Amid the growing possibility of war between Ukraine and Russia, American investors are getting increasingly nervous... But in this week's podcast, portfolio manager Adam Johnson, founder of BullsEyeBrief.com, tells Trish that the "markets can manage Putin – it's Jerome Powell they really need to worry about." Adam looks at the parallels between Europe's challenges now and what happened when Crimea was annexed in 2014, and concludes that the increased volatility in U.S. equities is a real opportunity for long-term value investors. Adam also walks Trish through the sectors and stocks he likes the most – everything from green energy to traditional energy to biotech. And he says tech companies "have been overly beaten down." Listen to the full episode for the names and tickers of the stocks that Adam believes are poised for success right now. You can follow Adam on Twitter at @AJInsight and Trish @Trish_Regan.

This week, Trish sits down with a very special guest, William McEachern, an economist most recognized for his famed college textbooks on economics. William also happens to be her uncle, and Trish cites him as a big reason why she devoted her journalism career to markets and economics. Despite the continuing spike in inflation and increasing bouts of volatility in the markets, William is still a long-term believer in the U.S. markets and economy... As the world reacts to the Omicron variant, airlines are bracing for yet another turbulent time… And according to Ben Baldanza, economist and former CEO of Spirit Airlines, the industry is currently undergoing a massive change. Rhodes Global Advisors as well as the former senior vice chairman and former senior international officer of Citigroup join Trish with a warning: Stagflation is coming. Rhodes led Citigroup as Vice Chairman and was responsible for the restructuring of debt agreements for countries all over the world. The monetary policy similarities between what some of the most challenged emerging markets have engaged in... and what our Federal Reserve has encouraged, could send us into an environment of hyperinflation... or even stagflation. Rhodes tells us it's time for Powell to channel Paul Volcker. Rhodes also shares memories with Trish of his good friend Paul Volcker and the time they shared as office mates together shortly before Volcker's death in 2019.

We get into the Biden administration's handling of COVID-19 and the impact it's had on the US economy in the last 6 months. It's very clear that most Americans are dissatisfied with Biden, but what happens in 2024? A lot can change between now and then, but can Biden turn this thing around? We think not…

With the recent anniversary of the removal of the gold standard and the US Dollar in 1971, Trish and Dr. Paul discuss the problems of today with Nixon's decision 50 years ago, including inflation that rivals 1970's and what that means for Middle-Class Americans (hint: it's not good). Our freedom of speech is under attack... Big Tech dictates what we can see, read, and discuss and if left unchecked, Big Tech's bias will destroy all independent thought. Thankfully, one social media entrepreneur is committed to prevent this from happening.Mark Weinstein, who's CEO of the new social network MeWe, says he knew this was his calling in 2011 when he heard Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg say, “The social norm is just something that's evolved over time.”The rise of online social networking should not mean that people no longer have an expectation of privacy. Mark is world-renowned as a leading privacy advocate and has more than 20 year's experience in privacy and social media. MeWe's conservative platform is described as the anti-Facebook… providing folks around the world with an ad-free communication network they can trust. Join Trish and Mark on this week's edition of American Consequences podcast for an in-depth discussion about free speech, Big Tech, and how MeWe is changing the social media landscape for good.
This week, Trish Regan and American Consequences welcomes Michael Gayed, portfolio manager at Toroso Asset Management, award winning author and publisher of the Lead Lag Report. His report uses intermarket analysis to seek the good data from the bad and focus on the market signals that really matter—the ones that his acclaimed research has shown can anticipate trends in the financial markets. Michael and Trish discuss what worries them most about the markets…. Erosion of the value of your savings, current ongoing asset bubbles and the risk of inflation over real wages….Michael's biggest concern, between the Fed ongoing printing of US Dollars, numerous stimulus checks and rise of the uneducated retail investor, is that the markets are headed for volatility. The “Eye of the Storm”, as he calls the current environment, has Michael worried about the future and indicates the markets decline may be here sooner than you think. You can learn from this “risk on/risk off” expert on ways to make sure you are protected and prepared. Inflation is here, and no amount of money printing can help the average investor…
American Consequences Editor-in-Chief and best-selling author P.J. O'Rourke joins Trish in this episode and they dive into a variety of topics, including his updated blockbuster book Eat the Rich that he's giving away for free at freepjbook.com. P.J. talks with Trish about the current resident of 1600 Pennsylvania Ave, the state of small businesses, masks, shutdowns, and inflated prices of goods and services. P.J. isn't President Biden's biggest fan and worries that the administration will impose more lockdowns should health concerns continue. Human nature shows us that people in power like to exercise that power, says P.J., and while politicians are attempting to uphold the health and safety of our country (no easy feat), they're still human and delight in shutdowns… perpetuating said power. With COVID-19 variants on the rise, small businesses can't withstand another shutdown, and the country can't continue to print money and prop them up… It's a recipe on how to tear this country apart, even more so than it already is. President Biden needs to show leadership that unifies. Inflation, a pandemic, human nature, and general discourse has us all on the edge of our proverbial seats.
A dwindling middle class coupled with increasing prices for gas, food, lumber, homes and more - Trish worries that the economy is on a runway to destruction, for most Americans. He's gone on to launch Retirement Trader, which uses options to help people construct safe, reliable income streams… Income Intelligence, the most comprehensive monthly review we know of the universe of income investments… and Advanced Options, which applies options trading to the stocks that are recommended by Stansberry Research to earn bigger gains. Doc's track record continues to amaze as many of his Retirement Trader readers know, with his documented 136 consecutive winners picked. Learn what percentage of your portfolio should be in Gold. Do Corporate Bonds have a part? What about US Treasures? Doc explains. Does the 60/40 asset allocation model still hold up? Big Tech has long since outgrown itself, America. And we have a push-pull relationship with the likes of Apple, Google, and Facebook. As much as we decry their monopolistic, First Amendment-crushing ways of shadow-banning and demonetization, we're also helplessly tied to these giants to participate in the digital world. The silicon quandary is two-fold, as the questions of Big Tech's unchecked power invite antitrust monopoly-busting concerns along with the free speech argument. Enter the oft-maligned Section 230, an antiquated act that allows these platforms to skirt any responsibility for content moderation, as they're just hosting the posts, not publishing them. And there's a further wrinkle in all this: Amazon. Bezos' creation somehow skirts the definition of a classic monopoly, as the e-retail Everything Store does lower consumer prices and improve services, albeit at the cost of excluding competitors. But there could be a shake-up soon in Silicon Valley. Biden's appointed the promising Lina Khan as the new FTC Commissioner – think of her like Elliot Ness, but instead of going after Al Capone, she has her sights set on Mark Zuckerberg. Columbia Professor John Coffee, an expert in securities law, joins Trish to stress the urgency of dismantling Big Tech while noting the legislative and legal willpower required to hold companies like Facebook and Apple accountable. The two also discuss the EU's suit against Google, the predatory practices of app stores, and why corporate crime so often goes unpunished.
Another day, another hack attack headline – from the Colonial Pipeline breach to Brazil's JDS (the world's largest beef supplier) and Texas' SolarWinds falling compromised to Russian hackers, it's clear that America's digitally exposed. Our companies and citizens are all potential victims of a winking Putin's state-sanctioned hacking pirates. His cyber minions gun from their keyboards to disrupt our power and food sectors, the very bedrocks of our civilization. And in lieu of the Pentagon stepping in, the private cybersecurity space will be an essential one in the coming years from both a national security and investment perspective. In short, we need to protect ourselves, America – because we are not safe. Morgan Wright, a cybersecurity and digital terrorism analyst, tells Trish Regan that the Colonial Pipeline attack was a watershed moment for the U.S., alerting us to the visceral repercussions of hacker attacks. And he hopes this newly heightened national vigilance will translate into actual policy change and personal accountability as our country battens down our digital hatches. The two also discuss how woefully obsolete the tech is in many U.S. government agencies, America's need to transition from reactionary to proactive on the digital defense front, and the safest investing plays in the cybersecurity space.
With Green Energy initiatives front and center at the G7 summit, the commitment to renewable energy is gaining steam on the international stage. Politics aside, this represents an undeniable opportunity for investors -- just ask BlackRock. Listen, oil's not going anywhere anytime soon, but we're undeniably in a transitional period when it comes to the energy sector. One crack in the rosy glasses of the Green Energy movement is, as always, China. For these lofty environmental measures to work, China would have to stop burning a hole in the ozone the size of Taiwan while exploiting emerging markets in smaller countries with shark loans. How can the free world lead an eco-conscious charge if the Red Dragon continues to operate without a conscience? Andrew Wheeler, former administrator of the EPA and current fellow at the Heritage Foundation think tank, is an equal-opportunity energy enthusiast who applauds advances in clean energy. But he illustrates the irony that our progress in the Green space often come at the expense of the environment and national security. The two also discuss the nuances of energy diplomacy, the realities of EV battery creation, and the hottest companies in the Green Energy sector.
Inflation nation, here we come! Have you seen oil prices lately, America? We may be heading to $100 a barrel soon -- and it's not just at the pump that you're noticing this surge in asset costs: food and lumber prices are soaring as well. Listen, our economy is finally improving but can it continue with the dampening effect of the Fed's recklessness and Biden's socialist spending agendas? With the dust from the pandemic settling and the self-induced economic wounds of lockdowns slowly healing, all we need now is simple: for the government to step out of the way. Renowned economist and author Stephen Moore returns with a searing take on Joe Biden and the financial landscape: with the President's Bernie Sanders' governing style experiencing pushback from moderate Democrats, it's clear the markets never took Uncle Joe seriously from the beginning. The two also discuss the absurdity of America's labor shortage, the minimum global corporate tax, and the Left's undying distrust of Big Business.
We all live in the shadow of Big Tech and the corporate media, and their free-speech restrictions lately have America looking more like North Korea every day. Yes, the proliferation of social media in the past decade has led to more access to information, but only if the Zuckerbergs of the world allow you to see it. Listen, I’m all for the free market, but there comes a breaking point when we need to bust up the Silicon Valley monopolies. And we’re breaking, America. Conservative talk show powerhouse and fellow American Consequences contributor Buck Sexton details his own stories of censorship and shadow banning, noting that what we need are antitrust laws and more competition in the digital platform space. The two also discuss how the pandemic made news even less trustworthy, balancing the First Amendment with capitalism and Buck’s new gig hosting a show in the late Rush Limbaugh’s time slot.
