At the Young Americans for Liberty conference in Washington, D.C., Matt Kibbe sits down with legendary journalist and educator John Stossel to talk about his long career bringing libertarianism to the masses. Stossel reflects on how the media landscape has changed, with decentralized platforms offering more opportunities to communicate without the fear of editorial censorship, and explains how his recent projects are bringing liberty into the classroom. He also laments the fact that for as long as he has been pointing out the benefits of free markets and personal liberty, many Americans are still not receptive to the ideas of freedom. Can Kibbe cheer him up with a dose of optimism? Watch to find out!

CATO Director of Budget Policy Romina Boccia writes about that. She explains: "Call it an emergency, done. Spend the money on whatever you want." Sadly, that's how it works in Washington. It gets worse. The budget caps that politicians want to evade never even cut spending to begin with. They merely slowed the planned INCREASE in spending. Bernie Sanders and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez call such a system “immoral.” But Yaron Brook, chairman of the Ayn Rand Institute says the opposite is true. He points out that the poor were much poorer before capitalism: “We have basically made about $2 a day for 100,000 years. In other words ... we could eat what we farmed and that was it,” Brook tells me. “And then something amazing happened about 250 years ago.” Around that time, a few countries tried capitalism. For the first time, people were allowed to profit from private property. That changed everything. Brook explains: “250 years ago we suddenly discovered the value of individual freedom. We suddenly discovered the value of leaving individuals free to think, to innovate, to produce without asking for permission, without getting the state to sign off on it and we call that the industrial revolution. We got much, much, much richer and it's hard to imagine how much richer we got ... electricity, running water, the things we all take for granted today, but we didn't have 150 years ago ... and yes, some people complain about inequality, but everybody got richer. Even the poor got richer.” https://youtu.be/DBZI6SN7BGA?si=AeUhbGlKJvDhdO4P 2024 Election: The Trump Biden Rematch. THIS is The Best We Can Do? But then some researchers pointed out gaps in her research: years with low levels of hurricanes. “Like a good scientist, I went in and investigated." When she acknowledged a lack of evidence that hurricane intensity had increased, she was ruthlessly attacked by climate alarmists. Her career suffered. Even in my hometown New York City, where authoritarian politicians constantly impose new rules, spontaneous order is occasionally allowed. A perfect example: Central Park. When government ran the park, it was dirty, dangerous and the grass was dead. Politicians let go a little, allowing a nonprofit conservancy [disclosure: I'm a director], manage Central Park. The Conservancy does a better job. Now the park is clean and safe. The SPLC listed the Family Research Council as a "hate group," which led a deranged shooter to attack their office. The SPLC never apologized or removed the group from its list. The Rich Zeoli Show- Full Episode (09/15/2023): 3:05pm- While speaking on Meet the Press with Kristen Welker, Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump reacted to news that the Department of Justice indicted Hunter Biden on several gun charges. Trump referred to Hunter's previously negotiated plea deal as “the deal of the century.” Trump's full interview with Welker will air on Sunday—in her debut as Meet the Press host following Chuck Todd's departure. 3:15pm- One day after Rep. Nancy Pelosi seemingly refused to endorse Kamala Harris as President Joe Biden's 2024 running-mate, Rep. Jamie Raskin was asked to react while on CNN. Despite being asked four-times by host Jake Tapper if Harris is Biden's best choice to be Vice President, Raskin refused to simply say “yes.” 3:20pm- According to Ximena Conde of The Philadelphia Inquirer, some people have taken exception to Pennsylvania law enforcement officers posing for a photo with escaped prisoner Danelo Cavalcante after he was captured earlier this week. You can read Conde's article here: https://www.inquirer.com/news/pennsylvania/danelo-cavalcante-caught-police-group-photo-20230914.html 3:35pm- During Friday's press briefing, White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre denied that the United Auto Workers (UAW) strike had anything to do with the Biden Administration forcing auto-manufacturers to focus on electric vehicles. Despite Jean-Pierre's denial, the reporters cited that Ford has lost billions of dollars over the last year. Rich notes electric vehicles have fewer parts than traditional, gas-powered vehicles—which will make auto workers less necessary, leaving many unemployed. 3:40pm- While appearing on CNBC, Congressman Ro Khanna (D-CA) explained that the government is subsidizing electric vehicle manufacturing—with an alarming amount of those federal dollars going towards exorbitant CEO salaries. 3:55pm- Is Zeoli now a wealthy man? According to the New York Post, an original VHS copy of The Goonies could be worth as much as $125,000! Alexandria Ocasio Cortez (D-NY) spoke outside the Roosevelt Hotel in Manhattan to address the U.S. Southern border crisis which has resulted in New York City becoming overwhelmed by illegal migrants. Her appearance was seemingly cut short as frustrated New Yorkers began to shout over her. Rep. Jerry Nadler (D-NY) received a similar response from the crowd. The Biden Administration's relaxed border security is suddenly becoming a major issue for Democrats as the 2024 presidential election quickly approaches. 4:15pm- Investigative reporter John Stossel revealed that five years after introducing a sweetened beverage tax, less than the money collected via the tax went towards funding city schools—as was originally promised by Philadelphia officials. Stossel concludes that the Philadelphia soda tax ostensibly took money from poorer citizens and allowed politicians to spend the funds on whatever they wanted. 4:30pm- Hank Berrien of The Daily Wire writes, “three men charged with being part of a plot to kidnap Democratic Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer were found not guilty after a two-week trial.” You can read more here: https://www.dailywire.com/news/breaking-three-men-found-not-guilty-in-whitmer-kidnapping-plot 4:45pm- Dr. Victoria Coates— Former Deputy National Security Advisor & the Vice President of the Davis Institute for National Security and Foreign Policy at The Heritage Foundation—joins The Rich Zeoli Show to preview Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky's scheduled visit to Washington D.C. next week. They are called Certificate of Need laws, also called “CON” laws. ———— To get our new weekly video from Stossel TV, sign up here: https://www.johnstossel.com/#subscribe ———— One such law prevents Phillip Truesdell from operating ambulances in Kentucky. The Pacific Legal Foundation, (pacificlegal.org) has filed a lawsuit on his behalf, with the goal of getting the CON law declared unconstitutional. His lawyer Anastasia Boden, says we need competition, “because competition has been the driving force of innovation, lower prices and better services.” I agrees, “competition works! CON laws are a bad deal for both consumers and entrepreneurs. No one should have to ask permission to compete. https://youtu.be/D2KX8wXzc78 Diversity, Equity & Inclusion: DEI Training's Unintended Consequences John Stossel 809K subscribers 706,286 views. Mar 21, 2023 All big companies now require "DEI" training for employees, but studies say that often BACKFIRES. ———— To get our new weekly video from Stossel TV, sign up here: https://www.johnstossel.com/#subscribe ———— One study looked at 800 companies, and found that after companies did trainings, they actually came to have FEWER black managers. How is that possible? Erec Smith, a former DEI trainer, now a Professor of Rhetoric at York College, tells me: "It seems to be making people less likely to interact with people who are unlike them ... because it's like a minefield now." He explains that the trainings can make people so afraid of saying something wrong, that people just avoid each other. “If you ask somebody what they do for a living, somehow that's racist, right? If you learn that, then why would you take a chance?" That's the just the tip of the iceberg, regarding DEI's problems. You can watch the video above for more strange ideas that come from it, like “try to be less white" and the idea that some kids don't need to learn standard English. https://youtu.be/ivA2MquHLvY Privatize Air Traffic Control! "Technology has very much changed the way we read and take in information and shortened it into quick bursts and attention spans. We're living in a new world, for sure. And how do we communicate in this new world? Not just in a way that gets the reach, because there are whole industries aimed at what do I do to get the most likes or the most attention, and all of that, which I don't think is very fulfilling as artists. It's sort of a diminishing of our art form to try and play the game because then we're getting the attention and getting the hits, as opposed to what do I really want to create? How do I really want to create it? How do I want to display this? And can I do it in a way that breaks through so that if I do it my way, it's still going to get the attention, great. But if it doesn't, can I be cool with that? And can I be okay creating what I want to create, knowing that that's what it's about. It's about sharing in an honest, authentic way what I want to express without letting the tentacles of social media drip into my brain and take over why I'm literally doing the things that I'm doing."

That we are one thing looking through many different eyes. Like one thing having all of these different human experiences. And not as a metaphor, we're all one. Response to John Stossel on Abortion | Kerry Baldwin and Doug Stuart John Stossel on abortion For the past 50 years, the abortion debate has been a polarized issue with common ground on either side. This polarization has created a perfect storm that suggests a deeply divided country. A single data point gets twisted by both sides. 61% of Americans believe 1st trimester abortion (up to 13 weeks) should be legal. The pro-choice side twists this to say, "most Americans are support abortion rights." The pro-life side twists the same data point to say, "most Americans support restrictions on abortion." I don't see it this way. I think most Americans exist in a gray middle. They're the ones who say, "I'm pro-choice, but …" or I'm pro-life, but …". Most Americans intuitively recognize abortion is wrapped up in tangential issues. So, abortion is a concession, not an ideal, in the mind of most. Failure to imagine a life-affirming alternative to the status quo leads to this concession. I was recently invited to be a guest on John Stossel's show to discuss abortion, and was joined by Avens O'Brien; a pro-choice libertarian of feminists for liberty. I have a great deal of respect for John Stossel and what he does. And I appreciate the opportunity to be featured on his show and alongside O'brien. However, I think Stossel missed an opportunity. I hold that libertarianism is a true alternative to the polarized paradigm we've been stuck in. In this episode, I sat down with Doug Stuart of the Libertarian Christian Institute to discuss some important elements of the interview with Stossel that didn't make it into the final edit. Facebook admitted that its so-called “fact-checking” program is actually cranking out opinions used to censor certain viewpoints. In its latest legal battle with TV journalist John Stossel over a post about the origins of the deadly 2020 California forest fires, Facebook, now rebranded and referred to as “Meta,” claims that its “fact-checking” program should not be the target of a defamation suit because its attempts to regulate content are done by third-party organizations who are entitled to their “opinion.” Stossel's original complaint questioned whether “Facebook and its vendors defame a user who posts factually accurate content, when they publicly announce that the content failed a ‘fact-check' and is ‘partly false,' and by attributing to the user a false claim that he never made?” Facebook, however, claimed that the counter article authored by Climate Feedback is not necessarily the tech giant's responsibility. Facebook went on to complain that Stossel's problem isn't with the Silicon Valley giants' “labels” on his content but with the obscure organizations that Facebook employs to do its “fact-checking” dirty work. http://globalreportage.org/2022/01/05/facebook-quietly-admits-in-court-its-third-party-fact-checks-are-opinions/ --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/global-reportage/support
STORY AT-A-GLANCE · “Fact checks” are nothing but a biased censoring mechanism, and now we have proof of this fact, thanks to a lawsuit brought against Facebook by journalist John Stossel· In court documents, Facebook admits that fact checks are “statements of opinion” and not factual assertions· Facebook recently censored a whistleblower report published by The British Medical Journal (BMJ), one of the oldest and most respected peer-reviewed medical journals in the world, variably labeling the article as “False,” “Partly false” or “Missing context.” Some users reported they could not share the article at all· The fact check inaccurately referred to The BMJ as a “news blog,” failed to specify any assertions of fact that The BMJ article got wrong, and published the fact check under a URL containing the phrase “hoax-alert”· The BMJ calls the fact check “inaccurate, incompetent and irresponsible.” In an open letter addressed to Mark Zuckerberg, The BMJ urges Zuckerberg to “act swiftly” to correct the erroneous fact check, review the processes that allowed it to occur in the first place, and “generally to reconsider your investment in and approach to fact-checking overall”We've long suspected that fact-checking organizations are nothing but a biased censoring mechanism more interested in manipulating opinion than establishing actual facts, but now we have absolute proof, thanks to a lawsuit brought against Facebook by journalist John Stossel.1,2In 2020, a Facebook fact-checker called Science Feedback slapped “False” and “Lacking context” labels on two videos posted by Stossel. The videos featured Stossel's interviews with experts who discussed the negligible role of climate change in the 2020 California forest fires. While they did not deny climate change is real, they proposed there were other, likely more contributing factors, such as poor forest management. Why were his videos flagged as misinformation? According to Facebook fact-checkers, Stossel was “misleading” people when he claimed that “forest fires are caused by poor forest management, not climate change.” But according to Stossel, he never actually made that claim.According to Stossel, the labels damaged his reputation as an investigative journalist and resulted in a loss of followers. Interestingly, when Stossel contacted Science Feedback about its fact checks, two reviewers agreed to be interviewed. With regard to the first video that got flagged, they admitted they'd never even watched it. In the case of the second video, a reviewer explained that they “didn't like [his] tone.” As noted by The New York Post:3“That is, you can't write anything about climate change unless you say it's the worst disaster in the history of humanity and we must spend trillions to fight it.”“The problem is the omission of contextual information rather than specific ‘facts' being wrong,” the fact-checker told Stossel, who says:4“What? It's fine if people don't like my tone. But Facebook declares my post ‘partly false,' a term it defines on its website as including ‘factual inaccuracies.' My video does not contain factual inaccuracies ... I want Facebook to learn that censorship — especially sloppy, malicious censorship, censorship without any meaningful appeal process — is NOT the way to go. The world needs more freedom to discuss things, not less.”To read the FULL ARTICLE, CLICK HERE. Support the show (https://paypal.me/dryohoauthor?locale.x=en_US)

The Tourette community lost a hero Dec. 15, someone I named on the very first episode (Season 1, Episode 0) of Tourette's Podcast. Steve Bachner was my first frame of reference for TS. Seeing him on an episode of 20/20 in the late 1980s was my first time seeing someone else with the disorder, and there he was, Steve, being followed by John Stossel and cameras, in a shopping mall, Steve ticcing to the fullest. I remember being a little kid guffawing at people's reactions to Steve, with a least one citizen observer telling the show he assumed he was probably high on drugs. The observer wouldn't have guessed Steve was living with a disorder that throws involuntary sounds and movements. I knew all about it. I met Steve not long after at a national Tourette Association of America (then called the Tourette Syndrome Association) conference and confirmed his heroism to me. Steve was kind, funny, witty, and willing to be talk to me like a human being. I never forgot it. We reconnected after I started Tourette's Podcast in 2018 and always talked about doing an interview. Sadly, Steve's health was declining; scheduling would be hit or miss, with very wide latitude granted to all the rest and recuperation time he needed. But we eventually, in May 2020, found the chance to record. It wasn't our dream interview; it would have been but the phone line was noisy and made listening a challenge. But, after some audio cleanup, and now in Steve's memory, it's here and it covers a lot of amazing ground. This is old-school Tourette Syndrome, with critical cracks at sensational coverage from Stossel, Geraldo, Springer and others who orbited Steve's disorder. They got to know his Tourette (or maybe a thin dimension of it) but did they ever get to know him as a person? (His friend Robin Williams did; Steve describes him here as a "soulmate.") I'm so lucky to have counted him a hero and saddened at his absence now. So this one is dedicated to the loving memory of Steve Bachner.
Facebooks Fact Checks are Just OpinionFacebook just confirmed in court what we already knew: Their "fact checks" aren't facts. They're opinion. The tech giant is in the middle of a legal battle with TV journalist John Stossel, who is suing them because they fact-checked one of his stories.Facebook's defense? They say they shouldn't be the target of a defamation suit because their fact-checking is done by third-party organizations who are entitled to their “opinion.” Opinion? So Facebook uses opinions to fact-check posts? What about when the company fact checks information about Covid? Is that opinion too? Just asking for the tens of thousands of young people who had inflammatory issues after getting their covid vaccine...So here is what the New York Post Said about it...Facebook admits the truth: ‘Fact checks' are really just (lefty) opinionFacebook finally admitted the truth: The “fact checks” that social media use to police what Americans read and watch are just “opinion.”That's thanks to a lawsuit brought by celebrated journalist John Stossel, which has exposed the left's supposed battle against “misinformation” as a farce.Stossel posted a pair of videos that touched the third rail of liberal politics — climate change. Neither questioned whether climate change is real, but each talked about other issues, namely forest management and using technology to adapt. Yet the third party that Facebook contracts to review these pieces, Science Feedback, flagged them as “false,” or our favorite, “lacking context.”Why? Science Feedback didn't like Stossel's “tone.” That is, you can't write anything about climate change unless you say it's the worst disaster in the history of humanity and we must spend trillions to fight it.For this, Facebook bans or minimizes Stossel's reporting, depriving him of readers and revenue. Then, when sued, Facebook throws up its hands and says “not our problem!” His real beef is with Science Feedback, you see; we wash our hands of it.As for that “fact check” label we slapped on your piece? In Facebook's response to Stossel, it argues, well, that's protected opinion under the First Amendment. The Post has faced this same gauntlet too many times. In February 2020, them published a column by Steven W. Mosher asking if COVID-19 leaked from the Wuhan Lab. This was labeled “false” by Facebook's fact-checkers.Here's where the ‘facts' about it all lie — Facebook bizarrely claims its ‘fact-checks' are ‘opinion'Of course, those supposed “independent” scientific reviewers relied on a group of experts who had a vested interest in dismissing that theory — including EcoHealth, which had funded the Wuhan lab. When Twitter “fact checked” and blocked The Post's stories about Hunter Biden's laptop as “hacked materials,” what was the basis? Nothing. It wasn't hacked; the company's staff just wanted an excuse. Guess they didn't like their tone.In both these cases, our “fact checks” were lifted, but only after it no longer mattered. The fact-check industry is funded by liberal moguls such as George Soros, government-funded nonprofits and the tech giants themselves. The checkers are not the unbiased arbiters of truth; they are useful distractions, groups Facebook can use to absolve itself of responsibility. Free speech be damned.

We are sorry folks. John Stossel had to cancel because an injury. We wish him a speedy recovery and look forward to having him on in the future. We decided to discuss a Ron's Pricing Masterclass that he presented in Melbourne, Australia on May 30, 2018 at the launch of our VeraSage colleagues' (Liz Harris, John Chisholm, and David Wells) new consulting firm, Innovim. Ron presented his Top 10 Pricing Lessons, and John wrote a fantastic recap of this presentation, including additional links, etc. I asked Ed to list his Top 10 Pricing Lessons over these past years, so we will present both of our lists below, along with specific links to prior shows where we covered these topics.

HSAY 017 - Christian Toto - Award-Winning Journalist | Movie Critic | Podcast Host Background: “Journalism is either changing or collapsing depending on your view” I'm an award-winning journalist, member of the Broadcast Film Critics Association and founder of HiT. I studied art in college and, after collecting three degrees, realized I had a brighter future away from my pad and pencil. I eventually landed a feature writing position with the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review, where I asked to review movies when our regular critic went on vacation. I essentially did the same while working for The Washington Times, volunteering to pen any entertainment story I could in between my regular assignments. I finally emerged as one of the newspaper's regular film critics, reviewing movies and interviewing A-list talent like Tom Hanks, Dwayne Johnson and Kevin Spacey. I left D.C. for Denver in 2007, transitioning to a freelance career I later found work with both Breitbart News and LifeZette.com before embracing my HiT duties full-time. I can be heard each week on “Mike Rosen at the Movies,” “The Michael Brown Show,” “Garrison,” “Haus Rules” and “Walker Daniels in the Morning.” I previously appeared on “Stossel,” shown on the Fox Business Channel and the “Devil's Advocate” program on Colorado's PBS station. Highlights: Art major in college who went into journalism Journalism is either changing or collapsing depending on your view Wanted to cover entertainment from a right of center perspective Realized there wasn't really anyone covering entertainment from this perspective Worked for Breitbart and Lifeset Created Hollywoodintoto.com First social media he got involved with was Facebook Is political on his business page because that he part of his brand and part of who he is Conservative entertainment reporter-- but he doesn't want to be vicious or irresponsible He tries to project his brand in a specific way-- i.e. no profanity, making fun of actors weight, etc. He wants his followers to trust him- know that he won't make up things because of his worldview Wants to be credible-- might have made mistakes but never on purpose, and they are always updated with an editor's note Wants to make sure everything is verified before reporting Social media is a great tool, but it can also do a lot of damage if you aren't careful Always try to pause before sending something out Think before you tweet, retweet, or post because these posts can have consequences and repercussions Is what you are posting going to provide value to your followers? Entertainment is culture It is good to stand up for what you believe as long as you can back it up with solid information Staying uplifting on social media can be good for a brand Being consistent and staying above the fray as well as adding value are very important We are more social because of social media but also hard to really know who these followers/people on social media are However there is level of discourse on social media that has gotten sour People can really show a different side on social media-- allows us to be nastier then who we are There is this barrier that allows people to say things that they wouldn't in person Resources: Hollywood in Toto: http://www.hollywoodintoto.com/ Hollywood in Toto Podcast The Franchise podcast Midnight Movie Cowboys Podcast Entrepreneur on Fire Podcast The Smart Pass of Income Podcast Social Media Examiner podcast Marketing in Your Car podcast Connect: Hollywood in Toto: http://www.hollywoodintoto.com/ Twitter: @HollywoodinToto Facebook: Hollywood in Toto Hollywood in Toto Podcast I hope you enjoyed and found value on this episode of The How Social Are You Podcast please feel free to share it on social media with your followers.
