    Ivy Insights

The Freedom Writers Podcast is an incredibly inspiring and thought-provoking podcast that explores the power of education and the potential for change. As someone who just watched the movie and now wants to read the book, this podcast has opened my eyes even more to the importance of teachers like Ms. G who truly believe in their students and find ways to relate different subjects to them. With everything going on in 2020, this podcast feels especially relevant and necessary.

One of the best aspects of The Freedom Writers Podcast is its ability to bring in a diverse range of guest speakers who offer unique perspectives and insights into our world. Each episode is captivating and sheds light on historical events or personal experiences that are still highly relevant today. The stories told on this podcast are not only informative, but they also inspire hope and possibility for change. Whether it's hearing about the Civil Rights Movement or listening to personal struggles, every episode leaves listeners with chills, reflection, and a sense of compassion.

If there was one potential downside to this podcast, it would be that sometimes it can be emotionally challenging to listen to. Many guest speakers share deeply personal stories that can be heartbreaking or difficult to hear. However, these stories are essential in understanding the realities faced by marginalized communities and serve as a reminder of the work that still needs to be done.

In conclusion, The Freedom Writers Podcast is a must-listen for anyone interested in education, social justice, or making a positive impact in the world. It provides valuable insights into historical moments while making them relevant to today's society. The vulnerability and honesty displayed by both the hosts and guests make this podcast truly special. Today's episode is serious and somber as we share that our Freedom Writer Family has lost a beloved member. Alexi Rodriguez, whom we affectionately refer to as “Lexi,"  tragically took her life. As a student author in our new book, DEAR FREEDOM WRITER, Lexi penned her pain in the letter "Perpetual Patient.” The loss of Lexi compelled us to create a safe space to discuss suicide, to encourage those experiencing thoughts of suicide to seek help, and to increase factors that promote suicide prevention. In this episode, Erin Gruwell is joined by six of our Freedom Writer Family members who have each been touched by Lexi personally. They reminisce about the unforgettable moments they shared with Lexi, process her passing, and seek to turn their pain into purpose. Lexi has impacted all of us, so this episode is raw and it is real. We hope, in her honor, that it will inspire you to take action for mental health awareness.
