Jennifer Koonings shares what she observed attending a Ben Gvir protest where a woman was physically attacked and bloodied by Ben Gvir supporters. But first historian Greg Grandin talks about the Pope, immigration, imperialism and his excellent new book America "America, América: A New History of the New World" Greg Grandin is Professor of History at Yale University. He is the author of a number of prize-winning books, including most recently The End of the Myth: From the Frontier to the Border Wall in the Mind of America, and The Empire of Necessity: Slavery, Freedom, and Deception in the New World, which won the Bancroft and Beveridge prizes in American History and was shortlisted for the Samuel Johnson Prize in the UK. He is also the author of Fordlandia: The Rise and Fall of Henry Ford's Forgotten Jungle City, a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize in History, as well as for the National Book Award and the National Book Critics Circle Award. Yaakov Shapiro is an international speaker, author, and pulpit rabbi for over 30 years, now emeritus. He has attained an enviable place in the arena of anti-Zionist public intellectuals, having constructed a unique oeuvre on the ideology of Zionism and its relationship to Judaism. After graduating high school at age 16, Rabbi Shapiro dedicated himself to full-time study of religion, becoming the protégé of some of the most well-regarded rabbinic scholars in Orthodoxy. Among his areas of research are religious philosophy, analytic theology, Talmud, Halachah, and Biblical exegesis. At age 19 he published his first book, משפטי הבירורים, a collection of original expositions on rabbinic principles of tort adjudication. His most recent work, The Empty Wagon: Zionism's Journey from Identity Crisis to Identity Theft (2018), a 1381-page treatise on the differences between Judaism and Zionism, is the most comprehensive work written on the subject and considered by many to be definitive. Jennifer Koonings is a psychiatric nurse practitioner, New York State certified sexual assault forensic examiner (SAFE) and former ER nurse. She completed graduate studies in global public health. She was fired from her long held held SAFE role for her anti-genocide advocacy after the NY district attorney's office accused her of being a rape apologist as well as the reason why a sexual assault victim she provided care to and testified in court for did not receive justice. She currently works providing mental health services to underserved women in the NYC shelter system. She also runs a social media account focusing on social justice issues. ***Please support The Katie Halper Show *** For bonus content, exclusive interviews, to support independent media & to help make this program possible, please join us on Patreon - https://www.patreon.com/thekatiehalpershow Get your Katie Halper Show Merch here! https://katiehalper.myspreadshop.com/all Follow Katie on Twitter: https://x.com/kthalps Follow Katie on Instagram https://www.instagram.com/kthalps/

Article link: https://www.telegraph.co.uk/gift/34df812ab180a9d4----------Easter Pysanky: Silicon Curtain https://car4ukraine.com/campaigns/easter-pysanky-silicon-curtainCar for Ukraine has joined forces with a group of influencers, creators, and news observers during this special Easter season. In peaceful times, we might gift a basket of pysanky (hand-painted eggs), but now, we aim to deliver a basket of trucks to our warriors. This time, our main focus is on the Seraphims of the 104th Brigade and Chimera of HUR (Main Directorate of Intelligence), highly effective units that: - disrupt enemy logistics - detect and strike command centers - carry out precision operations against high-value enemy targetsand a lot more "giving Ukraine cards" https://car4ukraine.com/campaigns/easter-pysanky-silicon-curtain----------This is another request I'm making personally to the generous and supportive audience of Silicon Curtain. A last-minute opportunity has arisen to travel to Ukraine with an aid convey in April 2025. This comes at a critical time where Kremlin-inspired lies are permeating social and traditional media. This is a chance to film the reality, and share it with a global audience to undercut the lies of Putin, Trump and the weird, malicious people within the US administration. https://www.patreon.com/siliconcurtain/shop/urgent-micro-fundraiser-to-support-to-1320505https://buymeacoffee.com/siliconcurtain/e/387699Urgent micro-fundraiser to support an imminent Journey to Ukraine - which will begin on April 1st 2025. the aim is to generate £2,500 in the next week, to cover the costs of travel, food and some items of equipment to support filming and editing of the footage we take through the course of the journey. This is an urgent fundraiser to support my forthcoming journey across Ukraine in April, traveling with an aid convoy. The trip will result in essential footage for the documentary film, as well as valuable insights that will help to plan the full filming of the documentary. We will also be creating video diary episodes and interviews to be shown daily on Silicon Curtain during and after the trip. Your generosity will make this possible and is helping to get the truth about Ukraine into the media. Purchases of £100, dollars or Euros will receive an exclusive Silicon Curtain patch, which we are having designed and made in Kharkiv, Ukraine. https://www.patreon.com/siliconcurtain/shop/urgent-micro-fundraiser-to-support-to-1320505https://buymeacoffee.com/siliconcurtain/e/387699----------SUPPORT THE CHANNEL:https://www.buymeacoffee.com/siliconcurtainhttps://www.patreon.com/siliconcurtain----------TRUSTED CHARITIES ON THE GROUND:Save Ukrainehttps://www.saveukraineua.org/Superhumans - Hospital for war traumashttps://superhumans.com/en/UNBROKEN - Treatment. His recent article said: “The White House's budgetary aspirations indicate (Trump's America) is not an expansionist and imperialist America, but an insular, enfeebled and politically divided country that harks back to the 1920s and 1930s… Put simply, these budget priorities coupled with the neo-mercantilist and zero-sum rhetoric of the Trump administration on trade suggest a retrenchment to the Western Hemisphere, and a tacit recognition of Russian and Chinese claims to their alleged spheres of influence.” He asks: Is America imperialist or isolationist?

This biography of “African explorer” Richard Dorsey Mohun, written by one of his descendants, reveals how American greed and state power helped shape the new imperial order in Africa. Richard Dorsey Mohun spent his career circulating among the eastern United States, the cities and courts of Europe, and the African continent, as he served the US State Department at some points and King Leopold of Belgium at others. A freelance imperialist, he implemented the schemes of American investors and the Congo Free State alike. Without men like him, Africa's history might have unfolded very differently. How did an ordinary son of a Washington bookseller become the agent of American corporate greed and European imperial ambition? Why did he choose to act in ways that ranged from thoughtless and amoral to criminal and unforgivable? With unblinking clarity and precision, historian Arwen P. Mohun interrogates the life and actions of her great-grandfather in American Imperialist: Cruelty and Consequence in the Scramble for Africa (Chicago UP, 2023). She seeks not to excuse the man known as Dorsey but to understand how individual ambition and imperial lust fueled each other, to catastrophic ends. Ultimately, she offers a nuanced portrait of how her great-grandfather's pursuit of career success and financial security for his family came at a tragic cost to countless Africans. Rounak Bose is a doctoral student in History at the University of Delaware. Bashar al-Assad like his father before him, presided over a state of terror, with disappearances, secret police repression and a punitive state machinery that governed through fear. Assad styled himself as an anti-imperialist when in reality he had colluded with the West in past conflicts and after 9/11 Syria became a favourite place for the Americans to render suspects for horrific torture.Today we have Moazzam Begg who is the senior director of CAGE and author of enemy combatant – a book about his time as a detainee first in Bagram and then in Guantanamo. This episode contains spoilers of the Attack on Titan series.Kazuma Hashimoto returns to the show to discuss Attack on Titan, a popular manga and anime series created by Hajime Isayama. This is the first installment of a mini-series on art and politics, where we will critically analyze the role of art in promoting Japanese imperialism and how we can revolutionize art in service of the people.Kazuma is a media critic, translator, and journalist. He authored many articles including “Attack on Titan Couldn't Escape Controversy in the End: Looking at the Legacy the Manga Leaves Behind” published by Polygon in 2021.The Attack on Titan franchise received critical attention for tweets posted by a now private Twitter account that allegedly belonged to Isayama, which glorified Japanese imperialism and the colonization of Korea prior to the end of WWII. While Isayama's association with the Twitter account is not empirically proven, he has expressed admiration for historical figures and events in his blog that indicates his conservative political leanings. In this episode, however, rather than focusing on Isayama's own political views, we focus primarily on the form and content of the franchise itself, and how they function as a conveyor of bourgeois ideology.  We talk about how the post-apocalyptic sci-fi genre reinforces the social anxiety caused by the crisis of capitalism and the role of music in the emotional appeal of the series. We dissect the reactionary narrative of the series, specifically its colonial and pro-war messaging, as well as a pessimistic view of humanity it puts forward. We discuss what it means to consume this content during Japan's turn to re-militarization and complicity in the ongoing genocide in Palestine, and how film and arts can either reproduce the bourgeois ideology or challenge it by appropriating these art forms for the liberation of the working class and oppressed peoples. We recorded this interview in December 2023 shortly after the conclusion of the anime series, but what this franchise represents and stands for remains relevant to this day and the franchise itself is not going away as the final episode is getting a theatrical release this November.Intro: Cielo by Huma HumaOutro: 歴史 history by Danny Jin (The video includes an English translation of the lyrics in the description)Support the show

Netanyahu's latest escalation of violence in Lebanon risks dragging the Middle East into an all-out war. In Palestine the number of dead and displaced continues to rise with no end in sight. This is the nature of capitalist imperialism in the 21st century: horror without end. That's why we say – down with the warmongers! If we are to achieve peace, we must overthrow the rotten system at the root of imperialism and war.

In Waiting for the Cool Moon: Anti-Imperialist Struggles in the Heart of Japan's Empire (Duke UP, 2024) Wendy Matsumura interrogates the erasure of colonial violence at the heart of Japanese nation-state formation. She critiques Japan studies' role in this effacement and contends that the field must engage with anti-Blackness and anti-Indigeneity as the grounds on which to understand imperialism, colonialism, fascism, and other forces that shape national consciousness. Drawing on Black radical thinkers' critique of the erasure of the Middle Passage in universalizing theories of modernity's imbrication with fascism, Matsumura traces the consequences of the Japanese empire's categorization of people as human and less-than-human as manifested in the 1920s and 1930s, and the struggles of racialized and colonized people against imperialist violence. She treats the archives safeguarded by racialized, colonized women throughout the empire as traces of these struggles, including the work they performed to keep certain stories out of view. Matsumura demonstrates that tracing colonial sensibility and struggle is central to grappling with their enduring consequences for the present. Learn more about your ad choices. China's rate of economic growth has slowed markedly in recent years. According to Chinese government statistics, the economy grew by 5.2% in 2023. There are numerous challenges: weak consumer confidence, mounting local government debt, and a real estate market that used to fuel the economy, but is now in a prolonged downturn. Many economists, including some in China, advocate that the government stimulate consumer spending. It is clear, however, that Xi Jinping is pursuing a different strategy. And this was quite clear when Chinese Premier Li Qiang delivered the Government Work Report last March.Host Bonnie Glaser is joined by Tanner Greer, who argued in a recent article published in Foreign Policy and in his blog, The Scholar's Stage, that Xi Jinping and the Politburo believe that science and technology are the answer to China's problems. To quote from the article: “the central task of the Chinese state is to build an industrial and scientific system capable of pushing humanity to new technological frontiers.” Tanner is the director of the Center for Strategic Translation. In this new episode of Colonial Outcasts we to map out, and draw connections in a very basic way between two conflicts (Gaza/Ukraine) and a potential armed flashpoint (Taiwan), because, as people have begun to realize since October 7th, it's all connected, man. Not in a conspiracy sort of way, but in a very run-of-the-mill Imperialist way - the most basic definition of which is the wikipedia one, which for our purposes is more than acceptable. Imperialism is the practice, theory or attitude of maintaining or extending power over foreign nations, particularly through expansionism, employing both hard power and soft power. Imperialism focuses on establishing or maintaining hegemony and a more or less formal empire. Think of Hard power as military force and proxy wars, and soft power as diplomatic and economic pressure like treaties, sanctions etc. So, the US/Europe is fighting a proxy war in Ukraine in order to weaken Russia, which has spectacularly backfired. We are funding a disastrous campaign of genocide in Gaza which is Isolating both Israel and by extension the United States from the international community, and now the US is stoking tensions with China over Taiwan, which could turn into a military flashpoint. We are seeing an Empire in decline. It seems like US politicians still believe that America has the same staying power and power projection that we had in the early 90's. But the working class is being depleted, rising levels of non-living wages and poverty are pervasive. We can't afford another conflict, but the question is - can the American People people be deceived into fighting another war? #warinukraine #warinukraine2024 #taiwannews #chinataiwan #chinataiwanconflict #israelpalestinenewsupdates #israelhamaswar #militaryindustrialcomplex #icj #antiimperialism #decolonize #ceasefire #uspolitics #globalaffairs #foreignaffairs #humanrights #breakingnews #internationalnews #warzoneclips #veteran #politicalnews #palestina #politics #political #internationalrelations #internationallaw #colonialoutcasts #counterterrorism #globalsecurity
