Today we are joined by Detective Sergeant Peter Lunney : lunney.peterj@police.qld.gov.au from Brisbane City Child Protection Investigation Unit at Queensland Police to talk about Project CASM which is the Community Against Substance Misuse.A couple of years ago, Brisbane City Child Protection Investigation Unit saw a problem in the local community of children/juveniles stealing cans of deodorant for sniffing. Retailers were being hit with up to 30+ cans of Deodorant stolen without staff realising what has occurred till the end of day’s trade. It wasn’t uncommon that some premises were targeted multiple times throughout a day. The offenders are inhaling the substance from the can. QLD Police found that this had the effect of:1: Direct increase in crime (Stealing/other property offences).2: Child Protection Issue of health and safety of a childToday we talk about Project CASM and discuss some of the learnings.Nicole Smith: https://www.linkedin.com/in/nicole-smith-83ba7255/Manu Prasanna: https://www.linkedin.com/in/manu-prasanna-venkatesan-722274155/Disclaimer: This recording (Podcast) has been prepared and made available by Checkpoint Systems (Aust/NZ) Pty Ltd (Checkpoint), in collaboration with the members of the Profit Protection Future Forum. On today’s episode we’re joined by Veronica Denner : https://www.linkedin.com/in/veronica-denner-b366385/ , Group Head of Loss Prevention & Risk at APG & Co and one of the PPFF Committee Members.A survey, commissioned by Hubbed which represented a panel of 1010 Australian shoppers was published in December 2020 that said 1 in 4 Australians experience parcel theft and some 58% of respondents worry about their parcels being stolen. Interestingly, a further 41% believe they are not provided enough delivery options to ensure security(https://www.thedcn.com.au/fear-of-parcel-theft-influences-method-of-delivery/) . On today’s episode we’re joined by Nick Smith :https://www.linkedin.com/in/nicksmith11/ , Group Loss Prevention Manager from Chemist Warehouse Retail Group and PPFF Committee Member. We’ve seen a lot of changes over the past 12 months of how we all conduct business, from being able to respond to lockdowns and reopens, to “circuit breaker” lockdowns, to visitor counting, to increased customer violence, to significant growth in online sales and the list goes on. The traditional Loss Prevention Manager’s role had to adapt to everything that was thrown at them. We discuss these changes with Nick and get his view on what might happen in Loss Prevention in the future.Nicole Smith: https://www.linkedin.com/in/nicole-smith-83ba7255/Manu Prasanna: https://www.linkedin.com/in/manu-prasanna-venkatesan-722274155/Disclaimer: This recording (Podcast) has been prepared and made available by Checkpoint Systems (Aust/NZ) Pty Ltd (Checkpoint), in collaboration with the members of the Profit Protection Future Forum. Today we are joined by 3 RFID Specialists from Checkpoint Systems to get an update of what’s happening around the world with RFID. Steve Howells : https://www.linkedin.com/in/stephen-howells-371345/ , based in Germany, managing the European RFID business, Phil Fisher : https://www.linkedin.com/in/phil-fisher-3b95535/ , leading the NA RFID team, and Mark Gentle: https://www.linkedin.com/in/mark-gentle-74817b186/ responsible for RFID in the ASEAN region. It’s been a tough 12 months globally for Retail with non essential brands going in and out of lockdown and many have had to adapt quickly in order to stay in business. Anecdotally, we’ve seen a substantial rise in online sales, so stock accuracy has to play an important role for sales and knowing where your stock is located is paramount, because you never know when a shutdown is going to occur and how long it’s going to last. Now is a good time to find out what’s been happening in other parts of the world over the last 12 months with Retailers RFID journeys.Nicole Smith: https://www.linkedin.com/in/nicole-smith-83ba7255/Manu Prasanna: https://www.linkedin.com/in/manu-prasanna-venkatesan-722274155/Disclaimer: This recording (Podcast) has been prepared and made available by Checkpoint Systems (Aust/NZ) Pty Ltd (Checkpoint), in collaboration with the members of the Profit Protection Future Forum. On today’s episode I’m joined by some of our Committee Members. Welcome back to the show Mark Boyd : https://www.linkedin.com/in/mark-l-boyd/ from Next Athleisure, Nick Smith : https://www.linkedin.com/in/nicksmith11/ from Chemist Warehouse, Veronica Denner : https://www.linkedin.com/in/veronica-denner-b366385/ from APG & Co, Neil Redfern :https://www.linkedin.com/in/neil-redfern-845aa014/ from Redfern Retail Risk and Mark Gentle : https://www.linkedin.com/in/mark-gentle-74817b186/ from Checkpoint Systems.Happy 6th Birthday to the PPFF : https://www.profitprotection.co/. From the outset, the PPFF has had a goal to position itself differently. As Retail Loss Prevention leaders, the Committee have donated their time towards the goal of encouraging industry networking and collaboration because they all recognise that shoplifters will steal from EVERY store, regardless of whether it’s a supermarket, pharmacy or apparel store. While retailers may compete with each other for shopper dollars, the PPFF is united in wanting to fight the dishonest customer. To this day the PPFF is the only not-for-profit organisation in Australia focused purely on helping Loss Prevention teams. On today’s episode we are joined by Phil Thomson: https://www.linkedin.com/in/thomsonphil/, Co-founder and Co-CEO at Auror: https://www.linkedin.com/company/auror/. Auror was founded in New Zealand after realising that $100B+ was lost every year by retailers but there was no effective technology being used to report, solve, or prevent crime. The intelligent platform allows Retailers to report an incident in real-time, add CCTV footage or evidence easily, solve more cases faster and profile recidivist offenders, and prevent crime before it happens by sharing information with the relevant law enforcement and give others Retailers a heads up. We see more and more Loss Prevention Managers using technology to improve the efficiency of their role so Phil explains why the platform is crucial to Loss Prevention teams.Nicole Smith: https://www.linkedin.com/in/nicole-smith-83ba7255/Manu Prasanna: https://www.linkedin.com/in/manu-prasanna-venkatesan-722274155/https://www.profitprotection.co/our-steering-committeeDisclaimer: This recording (Podcast) has been prepared and made available by Checkpoint Systems (Aust/NZ) Pty Ltd (Checkpoint), in collaboration with the members of the Profit Protection Future Forum.
