Sunday evening brought news that 5-star defensive lineman Armondo Blount has flipped from the Miami Hurricanes to the Florida State Seminoles and will be reclassifying to the 2024 cycle. Assuming Blount retains his status as a 5-star in the reclassification, Mike Norvell's staff becomes the fifth team in the nation to hold commitments from multiple composite 5-star prospects. Tomahawk Nation's Three Stars are here to break down what it all means for the Tribe. Josh Pick was busy making kale smoothies tonight, so Tim Alumbaugh and David Stout discuss this significant recruiting victory and touch on the following questions: What is FSU getting in Armondo Blount? How important is this commitment for FSU's defensive line recruiting efforts? Why is he so highly thought of by recruiting analysts? Where might he line up to start at FSU? Where might he be ranked once reclassified into the 2024 cycle? Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Digging into a family search is no longer just for families tracing their own ancestry. It's now a crime fighting tool, used by experts in the fast-growing field of forensic genealogy. I'm really going to be geeking out today because this stuff fascinates me. I've done quite a bit of research into my own family tree, and to see these techniques used to help solve crime is nothing short of amazing. Our book this week is “The Boy in the Box: The Unsolved Case of America's Unknown Child” by David Stout and our guest is forensic genealogist Daphne Dennis. I'm sure most of you know a lot about the first big case to bring genetic genealogy to our attention, the solving of the Golden State Killer case. Today's case didn't catch a killer, but it did give a murdered child back his name after 65 long years. Let's talk about identity as it's related to us in John 1:11-13. “He came to His own, and His own people did not receive Him. But to all who did receive Him, He gave them the right to be children of God, to those who believe in His name, who were born, not of blood, or of the will of the flesh, or of the will of man, but of God.” DNA testing is so great for establishing our earthly identity, but for those of us who have put our faith in Jesus, we have an additional identity. We are children of God. It's not conditional on what we've done, or what others have done to us. All that matters is our faith. That should cause us to look at ourselves differently - and at other people. If this episode has you ready to be a different kind of P.I. - a Person of Impact, check out the show notes for ways to volunteer with the doe network or even your local law enforcement agency. Didn't know you could do that? Different agencies will have their own guidelines about what volunteers are allowed to do, but many allow volunteers to check the jurisdiction for abandoned vehicles, do safety checks for vacationing homeowners, help compile crime statistics, assist with search and rescue operations, and maybe even cold case files. Give your local authorities a call and see what you might be able to do! In this episode of This Week in Immigration we focus once again on the US-Mexico border. First, Hanadi Jordan speaks with David Stout, a county commissioner from El Paso County Texas, and chair of the National Association of Counties' Immigration Reform Task Force to get the local perspective on the situation at the border, what counties like El Paso are doing to manage the arrivals of immigrants, the recent visits to El Paso of President Biden and a bipartisan group of Senators and what he thinks needs to be done. Next, Theresa Cardinal Brown interviews Andrew Selee, President of the Migration Policy Institute about the issue of migration in the hemisphere, US-Mexico cooperation at the North American Leader's Summit and what else needs to be done to manage what is an increasingly complex issue for all the countries of Latin America. This episode was recorded on January 20 and January 24, 2023. Follow @BPC_Bipartisan on Twitter, and see more of our work at www.bipartisanpolicy.org/immigration .
EL PASO, Texas - The new chairman of the Texas Border Coalition has explained his immediate goal for the organization.El Paso County Commissioner David Stout said the goal is to secure passage of immigration and border management legislation in the lame duck session of Congress. Stout said the legislative measures TBC wants Congress to pass are contained in a new white paper just published by the group.Stout said the recommendations are limited to legislation that has more than a 50 percent chance of being enacted this year. That means no immediate push for comprehensive immigration reform, even the the group supports it. The recommendations include passing the Dream Act, the Farm Workforce Modernization Act, and the Healthcare Workforce Resilience Act; legislation to recapture thousands of unissued Green Cards and allow them to be reallocated for current use; and funding the Emergency Food and Shelter program operated by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security to assure that local governments and non-governmental organizations can carry on programs to address the needs of migrants entering the U.S.As for border management proposals, TBC urges Congress to pass the Bipartisan Border Solutions Act and the Securing America's Ports of Entry Act.Stout was appointed chair of TBC at the group's annual meeting in San Antonio earlier this month. This was also the meeting where the white paper was unveiled. Stout gave an exclusive interview to the Rio Grande Guardian International News Service soon after becoming chair of TBC. This podcast contains the interview. To read the new stories and watch the news videos of the Rio Grande Guardian International News Service go to www.riograndeguardian.com.
The Florida State Seminoles football team has shown vast improvement on the field, and it's being noticed by recruits, including their latest commitment, four-star quarterback Brock Glenn, a flip from Ohio State. The 6'2, 195 pound Glenn attends Lausanne Collegiate School in Memphis, and has a four-star rating from the 247 Sports Composite List. The sites consider him the 378th best player in his class (22nd best QB and 12th best player in Tennessee). Norvell leaned hard on his Memphis connections when recruiting Glenn and his family, and the Seminole staff kept in contact with the gunslinger despite his verbal commitment to OSU. That persistence paid off in a big way today, as the ‘Noles finally have their QB for #Tribe23. Glenn, who officially visited Florida State in June, also checked out the Auburn Tigers and TCU Horned Frogs, before eventually choosing Ohio State. He holds 30+ offers from teams such as the Cincinnati Bearcats, Duke Blue Devils, Illinois Fighting Illini, Indiana Hoosiers, Kansas Jayhawks, Kentucky Wildcats, LSU Tigers, Michigan State Spartans, Minnesota Gophers, Mississippi State Bulldogs, Missouri Tigers, Oklahoma State Cowboys, Pittsburgh Panthers, Virginia Cavaliers, and Virginia Tech Hokies. The Three Stars got together for another instant reaction edition of the Florida State of Recruiting podcast to discuss the 2022 quarterback commitment. On this episode, we break down FSU's newest addition to #Tribe23 and what he can bring to the Seminole QB room. But the fun does not stop there, as we give our thoughts on how the class could finish, while discussing future recruiting ramifications, as well, with a strong finish to the season. Welcome in to Noles News Now, your audio home for all things happening in Florida State athletics on the Tomahawk Nation podcast network. What a welcome back to the FSU-Miami rivalry, Mario Cristobal. Better luck next time. Happy victory Monday to you our listener. Your Florida State Seminoles are now bowl-eligible after a thoroughly, dominant and I mean dominant 45-3 win over Miami this past weekend. Thanks so much for tuning in. I'm Brian Pellerin on this Monday, November 7th. Apologies for the late timing on this podcast this week, we're trying something different by recording on my Monday lunch break after Mike Norvell's usual Monday press conference. We start this afternoon in the obvious place and that is Saturday's blowout in Miami Gardens. The Seminoles asserting their will early taking a huge lead into half and never looking back. The stars on the day — Trey Benson who posted 15 carries for 128 and 2 TDs and then the FSU defense holding Miami to just 3 points in the game that came on their first drive. Otherwise, it was a lot of 3-and-outs plus turnovers. The Canes simply never had a prayer in this one. The stadium started emptying out in the second quarter and looked more like a normal Miami home game throughout the second half. Benson and OL-man Dillan Gibbons earned ACC Player of the Week honors as well. The victory puts Florida State back in the top 25 of the AP poll. They still remain a bit of a ways out in the coaches' poll. The college football playoff rankings drop tomorrow night. This week's opponent Syracuse, no longer in those polls after dropping a third straight game. That one was a battle of teams playing without their top offensive player. Cuse going without QB Garrett Shrader who appears to be moving close to a return after warming up this past weekend and Pitt is without their star running back. Either way, it was Pitt who came out victorious so Noles headed to Syracuse to face a team on a losing streak, desperate to right their ship. Oddsmakers like FSU as they opened as a 7-point favorite on the road. Outside of the field, two headlines in Tallahassee. First coming Saturday night when the broadcast showed Mike Norvell and Deuce Spann on the sideline where Spann was clearly frustrated as Norvell tried to get his head back in the game. Asked about it today, Norvell said “It's about me helping to get him back to where he's in control — when you get to that point, your mind can race to a million different places... He apologized and I just told him I loved him.” Norvell received some praise online for how he handled that moment. The other coming from a potential transfer off this team. This morning, Sam McCall posted online a note that he was entering the transfer portal, but later deleted the post, saying he made it off emotion. So it appears he will remain with the team for the time being. That is certainly something that could come up in this week's Tribe ‘23 Recruiting and Portal Thread with our experts Josh Pick, Tim Scribble, and David Stout. They've got the details on everything you need for potential roster shakeups in both recruiting and the portal. How about the ACC champs? Did you hear about that? Your reigning national champion FSU soccer team has added another trophy to their resume as they picked up the ACC title in a really even 2-1 victory against North Carolina. Florida State has now won nine of the last 12 ACC titles. Incredible run for that program. The NCAA tourney selection show is this afternoon at 4 so it may be out already depending on when you're listening to this. Good luck going forward, Noles. Let's go back to back. Hoops season is here also as the FSU men's team opens their year tonight at 7 pm against Stetson. The FSU women already rolled through its first opponent with a 113-50 win against Bethune Cookman this morning. That'll do it for today's Noles News Now. Until next time, I'm Brian Pellerin. The Florida State Seminoles dropped their second straight game to fall to 4-2 on the season and 2-2 in the ACC. Frustrating losses to Wake Forest and NC State have FSU facing a potential 0-3 start to October as they now play host to the No. 4 Clemson Tigers this Saturday. The loss at NC State came via a second-half collapse that saw the run game struggle and quarterback Jordan Travis throw two interceptions leading to a scoreless performance from the offense. So what went wrong for Florida State to lead to that collapse, and is there reason to worry about the two-game losing streak? The Seminole Wrap crew — Brian Pellerin, Jon Marchant and Max Escarpio — discuss each of those questions and more like the choice to put the ball in the air on the final offensive play instead of playing for the field goal. Plus they look ahead to next weekend, where the Seminoles can improve to pull the upset against Clemson and give their predictions for Saturday. ---- Everything Florida State Seminoles, all the time. Good morning... good afternoon... good evening... No matter what time you're listening, yes, you've made it to the Friday edition of Noles News Now. I'm your host, Brian Pellerin who will be guiding you in to the weekend with the latest news and notes from around Florida State football, baseball, and more. The biggest story to look ahead to is the unofficial start of ACC football season next week with the ACC Football Kickoff media days in Charlotte. The Seminoles will be sending veterans Jordan Travis, Fabien Lovett, and Jammie Robinson alongside Mike Norvell on July 20th - that's next Wednesday. The Noles will be just more than a month away from taking the field for the first time at that point and two months from beginning ACC play on a Friday night in Louisville. An announcement from ESPN this week actually slid that kickoff back 30 minutes so kickoff for that game is now at 7:30 pm, in case you've got to adjust your calendar or travel plans. It's been a busy summer on the recruiting trail for the Florida State Seminoles coaching staff as they continue to shape the future of this roster. One of the biggest areas to address is solidifying the trenches and recent offensive line commit Roderick Kearney looks to be the centerpiece of that effort going forward. This week, he joined our Florida State of Recruiting podcast for an interview about FSU, new offensive coordinator Alex Atkins and much more. Check it out to hear from Big Rod, a leader of the Noles for the future. Of course, Atkins was a huge part in landing Kearney and many other commits this offseason. He's been an incredible asset on the recruiting trail for FSU so the question is how does he rank in compared to other Florida State's other top recruiters of the past decade. David Stout tries to tackle that in a column posted to Tomahawk Nation dot com this morning. There have been some great assistants and Atkins is off to a strong start to be among if not the best of the bunch. Link Jarrett is hoping his newest hire will also be a major recruiting ace for the Noles as he's landed his first recruiting coordinator as the head man of FSU. Jarrett announced Thursday that Rich Wallace will make the jump from Notre Dame to Tallahassee with him to join the Noles coaching staff in the recruiting coordinator role. Wallace already has ties to the Sunshine State with his experience at Jacksonville and UCF. One day before FSU football starts their season next month against Duquesne, the athletic department will induct the newest members of the Florida State Hall of Fame class announced this week. In total, 10 Seminole greats will have their names added to the hall including football stars Snoop Minnis and E.G. Green, golf star Brooks Koepka, baseball player of the year James Ramsey, soccer greats Amanda Dacosta and Toni Pressley plus others from tennis, swimming and diving and more. That'll do it for this edition of Noles News Now. If you like what you hear, remember to subscribe, follow and rate the show to help us out and let other Noles fans know about the easiest way to stay up to date on all things FSU 3 times a week. Until Monday, I'm Brian Pellerin. Thanks for listening. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices

It's been a busy few weeks for Florida State Seminoles football on the trail, with Mike Norvell and staff scooping up a few commits — namely in the trenches. FSU secured the pledges from two key prospects — defensive lineman Keldric Faulk and offensive lineman Roderick Kearney. Both are four-star, blue-chip prospects and are now the top-rated commits in FSU's 2023 class. What do the pair mean for Seminoles recruiting momentum this season, and how do they project out for FSU? Will Florida State be adding to its 2023 class soon? Plus, as some bonus discussion, where does FSU sit in the NIL arms race? The Three Stars (Josh Pick, Tim Alumbaugh, and David Stout) jump on to talk all that and more on the latest edition of the Florida State of Recruiting. It's been a busy last week for Florida State Seminoles football on the recruiting trail. Not only did FSU snag a pair of 2023 commitments in high school prospect Quindarrius Jones and JUCO defensive end Jaden Jones, they added some strength to the 2022 class by adding Ayobami Tifase, a 6-foot-4 300 pound defensive lineman who reclassified from 2023. Additionally, 2022 offensive lineman Antavious “Tae” Woody has arrived on campus and officially been added to FSU's roster after concerns he wouldn't academically qualify. The June heat is upon us, which means things are heating up on the recruiting trail for Mike Norvell's Florida State Seminoles. FSU is expected to host some important recruits this weekend, including two newly-offered quarterbacks, and the Three Stars are here to break it down for you. Tim Alumbaugh, Josh Pick, and David Stout kick off their Florida State of Recruiting position breakdowns by examining the signal-caller targets for Tribe 23. Is longtime commit Chris Parson's commitment solid or shaky? What do we make of the two newer offers, Rickie Collins and Brock Glenn? Who will be in the class when it's all said and done? Florida State - The Seminoles have had to look into the transfer portal in order to improve their team - but are they doing enough via the transfer portal and high school recruiting to build the right team? Mike Norvell is not quite on the hot seat yet but this year, and how he is building the future, could threaten his job security if they are not clearly headed in the right direction. While they have brought in good transfers, will they eventually get the players they need at WR, CB, and OL? Only time will tell. Looking at the transfer class, they have brought in Jared Verse who produced 36 pressures last season but will he (along with the other edge players) be able to make up for the loss of Jermaine Johnson and Keir Thomas? Those two produced 90 pressures in 2021 but given the depth at the position, they will likely take a strategy of having waves of defensive linemen rush the passer. Recently they have been playing with fire in QB recruiting offering two highly ranked ‘23 QBs along with Chris Parson putting more offers out from other schools in response. The question is will the ‘Noles be able to get one or two signal-callers or will they strike out completely at QB? This is the second part of an interview with my client, David Stout. Last week I shared the first part, where we discussed David's story, how he decided to use genomic testing, and how he's been adding supplements and changing his diet to take the results of his testing into account. In the second part of the interview, we look at the health situations that impacted David after he started working with the Brandwein Institute for Nutrition and Wellness.
We are continuing our Men's Health month with an interview with a client, David Stout. I always enjoy my engaging conversations with those clients who take a deep genuine interest in not only their health but in their desire for longevity. David shared his journey and the tipping point of what eventually brought him to us. I think so many of you will relate to what he says and will be inspired by his drive to find answers. We talk about his genomic testing and how that has impacted his health; and he shares how working with us has changed his life for the better. I am sure you will enjoy listening to his story as much as I enjoyed interviewing him!

It's been almost one month since the highs and lows of Early Signing Day for the Florida State Seminoles and already, a lot has changed. To say this is a roster overhaul would be selling the staff short on what they've accomplished. On this episode of the Florida State of Recruiting podcast, the Three Stars discuss which players from #Tribe22 have made it, or are en route to Tallahassee for the start of the Spring semester. In addition to the high school enrollees, the Seminoles are expecting nine transfers. In total, FSU is bringing in one of its largest early enrollee classes. I love having guests on the show. It makes continuing the cycle of content so much easier, and when the guest brings facts about how community is trying to have one pulled over on us, that just makes hosting this show all the better. This week's guest is Pct 2 Commissioner David Stout and we talk about the journey that brought him to the Commissioner's court and what he's managed to accomplish over his time in office, as well as what he's looking to continue working on.We also dig into the I10 expansion, or as it's beginning to be reframed "I10 displacement" and talk through our options when it comes to having a nice new park while not displacing more people in our community. A virtual presentation by Dr. David Shyovitz. “The family that prays together,” the famous adage goes, “stays together.” Indeed, many people of faith take for granted that religious observance strengthens spousal, parental, and inter-generational relationships. But to pre-modern Jewish theologians, it was far from obvious that the family was a religiously meaningful institution. Biblical interpreters, mystics, and moralists questioned whether bonds between husbands and wives, or even parents and children, were strictly human constructs, conventional means of structuring the social order–or whether they reflected underlying, preexisting, enduring spiritual realities. This lecture will explore the ways in which medieval Jews used eschatological theology (speculation about the afterlife and the apocalypse) as a means of; thinking through the theological underpinnings of familial relationships. As we shall see, these medieval theological debates have had lasting, and surprising, implications for the development of Jewish liturgy and rituals.
Both the Early Signing Period and National Signing Day have come and gone, a steady year with some minor surprises for Florida State, which ended up with the No. 22 class in the country, tied with last year’s output (with fewer players taken.) While it wasn’t a home-run class full of five-stars, and while there are still some major holes that still need some filling, Mike Norvell and his staff managed to put together a class of both high school prospects and transfers to help build up an FSU roster that’s dealt with attrition and recruiting failures since 2017. To break down the 2021 signing class, including a scout on new blue-chip signee Destyn Hill, Tim Scribble welcomes Josh Pick and David Stout to talk Norvell’s efforts this year — what he and his staff did well and what they need to focus on moving forward — as well as who fans need to keep an eye on as the 2022 cycle now fully kicks into gear. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/tomahawknation/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/tomahawknation/support

In the summer of 1945, the USS Indianapolis was tasked with a top secret mission. The ship was to transport materials for the atomic bomb that the United States would later drop on Hiroshima, Japan. Under the leadership of Captain Charles B. McVay III, the ship accomplished its mission. From there, the ship headed off to Guam, and then to the Philippines. But before they left for the Philippines, Captain McVay requested a destroyer escort. The USS Indianapolis didn’t have submarine detection equipment, but destroyer escorts did. His request was denied. So, off he sailed into submarine infested waters. Then Brandi tells us the story of the Caffey family murders. Terry Caffey woke up to a blast, riddled with bullets. Two men were in his bedroom. They had guns. One had a samurai sword. The men murdered his wife, Penny, and left Terry for dead. Soon, Terry smelled smoke. The men had set his house on fire. Nearly dead but desperate to get help, Terry found the strength to get himself to a neighbor’s house. And now for a note about our process. For each episode, Kristin reads a bunch of articles, then spits them back out in her very limited vocabulary. Brandi copies and pastes from the best sources on the web. And sometimes Wikipedia. (No shade, Wikipedia. We love you.) We owe a huge debt of gratitude to the real experts who covered these cases. In this episode, Kristin pulled from: http://www.ussindianapolis.org “Captain, once a scapegoat, is absolved,” by David Stout for the New York Times “USS Indianapolis sinking: ‘You could see sharks circling’” by Alex Last for the BBC “USS Indianapolis,” entry on Wikipedia “Charles B. The Taliban has interns. David Stout a correspondent in Pakistan for Agence France Presse (AFP) looked into the communications apparatus of the Islamic fundamentalist group, only to find it operates much like any media organization, unpaid interns and all. We also discuss how after growing up in small town New Mexico, Dave pingponged around Asia before landing in more-idyllic-than-you’d-expect Islamabad. We talk about the situation in Kashmir (2:10), being raised in Hobbes, New Mexico (6:07), an early does of journalism rejection before finding his way in college (9:30), moving to Thailand/Vietnam and getting his start as a professional journalist (12:00), starting to work on the editing desk for AFP in Hong Kong (17:01), getting the gig in Pakistan (22:10), the story on Kung Fu in Hong Kong he couldn't quite bag (31:15), his story on the Taliban's media operations (34:05), and finish on the lightening round (39:20). Bryan, Chris, and Melanie take on a new report by Chris Dougherty that argues that, unless America changes how it fights wars to more closely align with the priorities laid out in the 2018 National Defense Strategy (NDS), it is in real danger of losing the next war to China or Russia. Has the thinking in the NDS become conventional wisdom? Is Dougherty's assessment overly pessimistic? Is there sufficient political will to follow through with expensive, long-term changes? Are American military planners up to the intellectual challenge? Finally, Bryan gives us the rundown on his much-anticipated staycation, Chris has some love for the U.S Women's Soccer Team, and Melanie hopes we can do a better job learning our history. The Department of Defense (DoD) shares a symbiotic relationship with the U.S. research ecosystem -- one that has generated tremendous breakthroughs for national security and economic prosperity. However, many people assume defense research is all tanks, ships and planes. In this episode, David Stout, a 2017-18 AAAS Science & Technology Policy Fellow at the National Science Foundation, catches up with speakers at the 2018 DoD Science, Technology, and Innovation Exchange (STIX) to learn more about the surprising breadth and depth of the work supported by the Defense enterprise. This podcast does not necessarily reflect the views of AAAS, its Council, Board of Directors, officers, or members. AAAS is not responsible for the accuracy of this material. I got to catch up with a former high school classmate of mine, David Stout, for this week's episode. It's always so great to see people from your childhood take big risks and massive action! David was a former model for brands like Under Armour, Hollister, and Abercrombie & Fitch, then, became the youngest Senior Vice President Banking Executive at an $8 billion Dollar Bank. And now, he’s the owner of Stout Motivation Inc. He’s here to tell us how we can give 100% effort, in all areas of life. Grab the full episode notes on my website: www.mindbizlife.com

I first got to know the Vasulkas through their association with David Stout and Cory Metcalf (of Noisefold), and during one of their visits to University of Denver. I was charmed by them immediately (as so many are...), and we've hung out many times over the subsequent years. They often probe other people about their backgrounds and interests, but often are shy about talking about their own. During a workshopping visit to Seattle, the Woody and Steina were visiting the Cornish College of the Arts, and we got a chance to get caught up. They were willing to be interviewed for the podcast, so we went forward. But, alas, the damned Tascam recorder didn't work correctly, so the only audio capture that I got was fro the backup laptop. So I'm sorry about the audio quality... This was a long interview, so - based on listener request - I broke it up into two pieces: the 'early years' (Europe through New York City) and the 'later years' (Buffalo to Santa Fe). This is part one; part two will drop in a few days. In the meantime, enjoy the podcast, and do some digging - learning about the Vasulka's history is well worth it!
In our first interview with someone specifically not self-identified as a programmer, we talk to David Stout. David is one half of the performing group Noisefold, and is also a faculty member at one of my (many) alma maters - University of North Texas. David has some very specific views on the creations of art with new media tools, and he share some of them with us in this chat. I really enjoy exploring these areas, and hope to have a follow-up interview with David sometime in the near future. In the meantime, please enjoy this sip from the firehose!
