It's been over a year of the current global pandemic and being international students or expats, most of us have not been able to see people we love, especially family. We said goodbye to March 2021 with such loving things to say about our families and incredible life lessons about family learned in Melbourne. It's all about appreciating the people that love us most for it keeps us going and feeling grounded. Where we grew up, it is not something to talk about at all, so this conversation was definitely a big leap and also took a lot of courage. Steph and I are new friends in one way and colleagues in another. I adore her as a human because of the energy she brings to every convo. When I shared about this podcast and invited her to join, I found out the she'd never been on a podcast before and this would be the perfect chance for her to see how that goes. Honestly, this lady needs her own show!! The funniest and best part about this convo is that... she didn't know we started recording when we did! Of course, with her permission, I am now sharing this amazing chat with the world. Upon reflection, she summarised this as a series of "conversations about gratitude, staying positive and happy in COVID, and learnings from travel". I didn't know how else to name this convo because these are all good things in life! We need more of these right now, more than ever. I hope that our good vibes send goodness your way! I met Pyper through the Study Melbourne Ambassadors 2020 Program and she was one of the first Ambassadors that I got to chat to. I just love her energy so much and we could go on and on about random things. After chatting to her on the Study Melbourne Leadership Labs podcast and just casually chatting to her about life, I finally chat to her on The Glocals podcast. This experience was definitely different and we are both so glad that we could form a friendship thanks to our convos. With me and Pyper both being in a place of changes and growth, we reflected on our journeys and discussed how we are learning to be kind to ourselves and others. Empathy and compassion are not just for others, because they start from within. Now, more than ever, we need to know and acknowledge that we are doing the best we can. Recorded live in Ringwood, Melbourne VIC 3134 on Monday 18th May 2020. Diane has been a huge supporter of my work as well as all the other La Trobe students and she's always there for us. I've known her for quite a while and she has this energy, this way about her that is just so positive. I've always wanted to have this chat with her, but you know, life happens and we couldn't really sit down and have a chat until now. When I asked her to join me on the podcast, she said yes, but she wanted to chat to me first because the topic she wanted to talk about, according to her, is a tough one to talk about. This has never happened before, and when she finally told me what it was, I cried a little. Not because it is a sad thing, but because I had no idea she was struggling with that much pain and still remained so positive and still supported us students with all her heart. It's one of those little things that remind me of how human we all are, and how we should always pay attention to the people around us. I wish I could hug her right there and then. But of course, we couldn't hug in person, so I sent her my virtual hugs and promised to shout her KFC - her fave! Diane's message for our convo is: โ€œLife is short - appreciate those around you and appreciate the small things.โ€ She also shared: โ€œI enjoyed the freedom to share my story - a topic that may be taboo for some in the community. The natural flow of the conversation was also enjoyable.โ€ For those of you that would like to know more about our amazing Diane and her journey, her message for you is: โ€œListeners can follow my 'journey' on Instagram under the account > geeeesmanโ€. Recorded live in Melbourne, VIC 3134 and Brisbane, Australia on Wednesday 13 May 2020 (after hours). Friends, I've never missed a Monday ever since I started The Glocals podcast, but I did this week. I guess hitting the 6th month of doing this show while a lot goes on really got the best of me. But I've forgiven myself! It's not about hitting all those dates, but rather truly have those soulful convos. And on this week's episode, I am once again reminded of how much this show means to me. My guest/Glocal fellow this week, Amardeep, found me on Linkedin and connected to me earlier this week. I immediately shared about The Glocals and lucky for me, he was super keen to join the show. I really thought I was gonna miss a week, but hey, better late than never! As surprised as Amardeep was about how organic this podcast episode was, I was super happy and inspired by our chat. It was great getting to know more about him as a human, and I absolutely get why he's chosen the career of a coach! All I am gonna say about this convo is that it is a truly soulful one. Please give it a listen if you would like to know how your fellow humans/Glocals have learned to find balance and learn more about themselves. When asked about how he felt about this convo, Amardeep said โ€œI loved the genuine and authenticness of having a free flowing conversation and how you have the ability to make your guests feel safe and welcome!โ€. This makes me so so happy and that's why I love working on this podcast so so much! Amardeep sent you all a message that if you want to improve your mindset, performance and wellness, then please feel free to reach out to him at amardeep@buildyournow.com or to follow him on Linkedin at https://www.linkedin.com/in/amardeepgill/. We both come from Vietnam, so it was a little strange to chat in English, but I'm glad we did because what we talked about can really help anyone and everyone! To us, being in the early stage of our careers means that we have the luxury to learn from others and also be creative. No matter which stage you are at in your career, chances are you agree with us when it comes to the importance of personal branding and networking. These 2 go hand in hand and they are the key to success, and we both share the same view mainly because we share so much in our own journeys. Have you ever wondered why some politicians speak in certain ways that sometimes don't make sense while others speak from the heart and it touches you? I love her energy so much, and it was so good to finally have this convo for the podcast. We have only become friends recently but I've realised that we are both creatives, we care about others in the same way and we have the same sentiment for life I'd say. Ziying sings so beautifully, writes wholeheartedly and she has an awesome YouTube Channel too, would you like to check it out? How have you been holding up? It has been a really challenging time for us all, isn't it? But when we had this chat, our positive energies just bounced off each other and became tenfold I must say. Ziying used to be in a really touch place last year, and she was under social isolation because of her situation. But then and even now, her enjoying the little things and feeling the joy thanks to them is what makes her so positive. She enjoys life so much and so do I, so I hope our energies will rub off on you too. Stay strong and stay positive friend! Recorded live in Melbourne CBD 3000 on Saturday 22 February 2020. My mate Sanket and I sat down for a conversation, first of its kind between us. We reflected on our journeys in Melbourne so far and discussed how we should all enjoy life, no matter where we are. Life is always tough in one way or another, but we agreed that if we don't enjoy today, it will pass by, and chances are, by the time you know it, your time at a certain place is already gone. So hey, enjoy today, enjoy your life to the fullest, and find joy in the little things. If you are also in Melbourne, there are a million free things to enjoy, and it's awesome. Recorded live in Melbourne CBD, Australia 3000 on Thursday 20 February 2020. As a young person, politics to me personally is a highly sensitive topic, and frankly speaking, hard to fully wrap my head around. I constantly read to understand and research to know more about different opinions. The fact that politics can sometimes be absolutely deceiving in the face of world challenges has been on my mind for a while, but I do think that each human can do something about it. And luckily enough, I met Clement from Ghana through my friends, and he is such a passionate scholar in this area. However, when we sat down for this conversation, I could understand for the first time why a human can be so passionate about politics. As much as it can be a topic of avoidance for many, it is also one that sparks hope and interests in others. This conversation is just the beginning of so many others, and I have learned so much about why politics and scholars do what they do to bring understanding to others. However, I also know that it is up to us to learn more about the world and do what we can, especially young people. It is up to us to know right from wrong regardless of which political party to follow or who to vote for. Actions matter. Recorded live in Melbourne CBD, Australia 3000 on Friday 7 Feb 2020. Noah is back with another wholesome convo! Miss Americana, aka American Sweetheart, aka Taylor Swift needs no further introduction. But is she a topic though? Oh yes she is! On this week's episode, we discussed the recent Netflix documentary by her, about her, and spoiler alert: We love it! This is the first time ever that she's told her story with her own narrated words and video clips rather than lyrics and interviews. There are some stuff that we've already known, but what's deeper is the psychological journey that a famous person's gone through over the course of her career so far. She is just like any of us, despite the image built around glamorous magazine covers we have all seen. What is special about Taylor's story is that how people talk about her somehow reflect how sometimes we as humans are drawn to dramas more than the good things, and we advocate bad/irrelevant trends rather than pressing issues. Noah and I are both Swifties, and we love her wholeheartedly no matter what people say or think about her. And we also emphasised on the fact that she, as a feminist herself, definitely spoke our minds about how women should be and want to be treated: with equality and respect, as much as men do. I reckon the documentary and this convo will somehow allow men to understand women's struggles and perspectives. In a broader sense, what we took from the whole documentary is how we could all be a bit more empathetic towards others and especially ourselves. Even the Woman of the Decade has her own struggles and face issues like any other human being, so empathy is simply the key to kindness and happiness in 2020. What do you reckon? Thank you heaps for having this convo with me Noah, it's always a good time with you! More on Noah if you are keen to get to know him: His name is Noah Duldig You can find him on IG @noahduldig and Facebook using his full name Honestly just get to know him folks, what an awesome human! We cannot stress this enough: Please go watch the documentary Miss Americana on Netflix no matter how well you know Taylor Swift, for you will definitely take something from it. Recorded live in Ringwood, Melbourne, Australia 3134 and Hanoi, Vietnam 100000 on Sunday 2 February 2020. Welcome to my coffee chat with my little sister from another mother, Su! We have discussed this topic so many times, but this time is a bit different because she reminded me about the time she asked me to be her friend. You know, at 20-something, when someone asks you to be your friend, it's kind of a big deal. Or at least it was (when she did) and still is to me. We started off as tutor and student, yet here we are. I'd always wanted a sibling until her. Having someone to share stuff with and to care for is awesome. I don't fight with her like siblings do, but still, I'm super grateful to have her in my life. This chat is just one to reveal how a 16-year-old who is not particularly active on social media thinks about the way friendships work in this day and age. Spoilers alert: it is super fascinating, but essentially, you need to have conversations to maintain one. I adore her so so much, because she's always there for me for moral support, and I love her authenticity. There was this one time she taught me something that I'd never forget: In life, it is not about the people you meet, but rather the timing. Your best self right now might meet someone's best self, but you two are not compatible as friends. But at a different time, your new best selves might be, and so the possibilities for friendships and relationships in general are endless. How profound. I think she taught me that when she was 15. I wish I was that wise at 15. I love how much I learn from such a young lady, and from young people in general, always. I love you Su Su! If you are keen to understand why a 16-year-old is not active on social media and how she sees friendships in this digital age, in 2020, perhaps this is the podcast episode for you. Recorded live in Dong Da, Hanoi, Vietnam 100000 Hello from Melbourne! I am back in Melbs and it was absolutely lovely to be home for a bit before diving into the hustle of 2020. One of the best things about being home was reconnecting to my best mates in Hanoi. A lot of us flew home from all over the place, and we picked up right where we left off after almost 2 years. Before I begin writing about this conversation, I would just like to give a huge shoutout to all my friends, and to all the deep convos we had that really energised me. I love you all. In this episode of The Glocals, I welcomed you to my family and shared a convo I had with my damn best cousin/best friend/neighbour: Ha (Paul). It was the first time that we could properly sit down and talk after almost 2 years apart. We talked about our quarter-life crises, anxiety, ethics and friendships. We went all over the place but the key takeaways were how the power of vulnerability and being open could really help us to overcome anxiety and also filter our circles. The funny part about all this was, I did most of the talking, but it was a really good convo to me. I did not feel weird for doing most of the talking because I was open to my best mate who happened to be a quiet person. Being a twenty-something is always associated with figuring out where you wanna be and how to get there. And we are the same, but if there is one thing I would love to share with everyone, that is how you can SWOT yourself! Yes, that is a thing. I picked that up from a workshop I attended not long ago, and I realised that I'd been doing that all along. Maybe you have been doing that too, but I am positive that we can truly get somewhere by focusing on our Strengths and Opportunities while looking out for our Weaknesses and Threats. We'd love to hear your thoughts on this, and please shower us with tips to deal with our quarter-life crises! Another thing that we discussed in detail was how our best mates could save us heaps of therapy money, and Ha told me that he has more girl besties than guy ones because with girls, he could express himself and be deep on a whole different level compared to that with guys. Personally, I have had the chance to talk to guys who are expressive and also listened to podcasts about/by expressive men, so I believe that by opening up, Ha could really find those guy friends to be deep with and learn from. What do you think? Should we open up more? Are guys also expressive and deep? We would love to hear your thoughts! Thank you for listening, and thank you Ha for being a part of The Glocals. Recorded live in Bundoora, Melbourne VIC 3086 on Tuesday, 17 December 2019. Hey hey my friends, Happy Lunar New Year if you are celebrating this occasion. If not, I hope you are having an awesome start to the week! Meet Jess, a perfect stranger at La Trobe University that I had the chance to talk to the day before my graduation for my Master's. I was listening to this conversation again and I realised how long it is, but it makes sense considering how this is how 2 perfect strangers got to know each other. We started out discussing our uni lives, and coping plays into that A LOT, no matter how our journeys have been. As everyone has been a student at some point, I thought this is absolutely relatable and would help a lot of our peers out there to realise that when we are so caught up in our busy schedules juggling between studying and working, it is okay to accept whatever coping mechanism you are using. In our cases, we discussed overeating and having an unhealthy diet when coping with our busy uni lives and how taking a break really helps to re-evaluate what we have been doing and how to change our behaviour. What's even more awesome is how Jess referred to The Glocals' Convo #3 with Noah and discussed schemas. She gave me some more insights into how our behaviours can only be changed when things are built into our schemas. However, we agreed that sometimes we just don't have the luxury of stopping to reflect and re-evaluate, so it is okay to change our behaviours bit by bit as we go and give empathy to ourselves and people around us. At the end of the day, we don't know what a person is going through until we really talk to them and they openly share their stories, which is why we briefly mentioned how a person's reality is completely different from their Instagram feed. As this conversation happened at the end of 2019 and coping for a whole year leads to a desire for change, we also went into New Year's Resolutions and discussed how they work for us. Even though the last day of 2019 wouldn't be much of a difference compared to the first day of 2020, it is totally worthy to set some new goals for the new year and change things around. How do you set goals? Personally, I shared with Jess how I set goals based on Project Management's principles, so yes, my yearly goals have got to be SMART. Well, I do understand that some intangible things cannot be measured with numbers, but there are other ways to see our improvement, say tangiblising the intangible. If you are not keeping a gratitude journal yet, perhaps it is worth it to try and record good things somewhere and see if you are happy with your day at least once a week, then go from there. Whatever comes in 2020 will only be the results of all that you have been working on in 2019, so brace yourselves for the best! It is such a long conversation but its flow is just natural and I love it, so thank you Jess for joining me! Our senses of sarcasm are different but I really enjoyed having this conversation and I learned a lot from you. To my listeners: if you are listening in real time and are celebrating Lunar New Year, I hope this can help you re-evaluate your 2019 and set new goals for 2020. Whatever it is that you had to cope with in 2019, I hope it is a bit easier now to cope with. Please know that whatever you have been working on will go somewhere in 2020, and this will be the best year yet, for each year is only getting better. Recorded live in Melbourne CBD, Australia 3000 on 16 December 2019. I met Keith at a Meetup on Knowledge Management in Melbourne not long ago thanks to Arthur, who I met while volunteering for Community Four, and this enlightening conversation couldn't have happened without all their help. So thank you so much to both Keith and Arthur! Before I start going into detail, let me just say that never had I imagined having such a fun time talking about a professional topic while relating everything to our personal lives! As Keith is a professional with decades of experience, I was really intrigued to see how the conversation would turn out to be and what I would be able to learn from him. Honestly, I am still in awe of how we could effortlessly go straight into such a meaningful conversation while we are from really different walks of life. As a young person, I am so grateful to have had this talk with a professional like Keith, since he not only shared some insights into Knowledge Management, but he also related everything to real life, especially parenting. He was an absolute star with his energy and humility. After listening to this conversation again and again, I am happy to share that I have learned a lot from it more and more every time. I am also sure that the more I grow, the more I will benefit from the knowledge gained through this talk. I know for sure that I will use all of his tips for my professional career and for parenting in the future. When asked how he would describe the message of our conversation, Keith's view was โ€œTips for increasing personal effectiveness and creativityโ€, and it is another way to see it in the grand scheme of things. Recorded live in Melbourne CBD, Australia 3000 on 13 December 2019. Have you ever felt intrigued by a quiet friend but never had the gut to ask the person about their story? Well that is my case with Sally, my really sweet lady friend from Malaysia that I had barely got to know then. When I told her about this podcast series and asked her to be a part of this journey, she said yes right away. And I gotta be honest: I did not see that coming, because she'd always been the quiet one in our group of friends and she seemed like a really private person. The fact that she agreed to come onto this podcast series did not prove those things wrong, but it did say a lot about how passionate she was about sharing her lessons with the world. Thanks to this conversation, I got to know more about her journey so far and what led her to Australia. What's more is that I got to understand another human's experience and perspective on depression and anxiety while coping with changes. It's a beautiful conversation, and we were both so so glad that we had that talk. Depression and anxiety are part of our ongoing battle with the hardships and changes in life, and they are no longer the taboo topics that they used to be. As we were open about our experiences with them, we learned more about each other and ways to deal with these mental health issues. In this conversation, we discussed the book โ€œWho moved my cheese?โ€ by Spencer Johnson and a bit on the book โ€œFirst, We Make the Beast Beautiful: A New Story about Anxietyโ€ by Sarah Wilson, both of which are related to these topics. This conversation was really personal, and as people who value our privacy, we only decided to share these parts of our stories because we hope they could inspire people who are struggling mentally to know that there is a way out for everyone, and everything will gradually get better. So please hold on if you are struggling. And if you are okay, please spend a bit of your time checking in on your close ones. You never truly know how much of a difference it can make to a person's life. Thank you. Recorded live in Epping, Sydney NSW 2121 on Thursday, 2 January 2020 at the early hours. Greetings from The Glocals in the new Decade. All the best from ours to yours! Welcome back Anna Banana with a new name! She finally got a Viet name after hanging out with the Viet for so long, and we both love it. On a serious note, I reckon a lot of us have been doing our reflections and thinking about how the last decade went. Personally, this podcast series has helped me put things into perspective a lot. At first, 10 years ago seemed like a long time ago and I thought what I did back then meant little to who I am now. But I was wrong. Me at 14 was the me that made a lot of touch choices. These choices have constantly helped me to become more me everyday. This little reflection has also helped me to never underestimate the power of youth, which lives in me and people so much younger or older than me. At 14, I couldn't imagine celebrating 2020 in Sydney with my mom and a newly found best friend. I could never imagine having a life like the one I am leading right now, and I am so thankful for all the things that I get to learn. Somewhat foreign concepts like veganism have come into my life and opened my eyes so much thanks to my beloved friends, and that is what Anna and I discussed in this convo. It is a really good one as we got to really sit down and understand each other's point of view and find balance in this somewhat taboo topic. Sending messages like veganism is good for the planet and us all can only work when they are delivered in a positive way, so please tune in to hear what we have to say from 2 sides of the table. Recorded live in Carlton, Melbourne VIC, Australia 3010 on Thursday 5 December 2019. As this is the last conversation to be shared by The Glocals in 2019, I hope that it leaves a strong impact on how we as a society are supporting things and people, and I hope that stuff that matters will remain/become the key of focus in our daily lives. I am so grateful to my bestie Kimmy for introducing me to her stepsister Eva, who is an absolute gem to this world. She prepared dot points for a conversation with me cause she took this really seriously, and I really appreciate how much she was for this idea of sharing knowledge and curating empathy globally. We gave a lot of shoutouts in this convo and I just love how the people in our lives help put things into perspective for us. Personally, I don't know Eva very well but I guess I know enough, and I did learn so much more about her and about Australia through this convo. Our differences in terms of speaking up and my personal reflections thanks to our discussion taught me a lot about different personas and how I need to actually woman up and just say what needs to be said. Going further from there to what has been happening here, while learning about how the Australian Government has been approaching refugees in different aspects, my heart broke a little for the people struggling with no certainty and no safety out there. Being from another country myself, I do realise how lucky I am to have a roof over my head and all I need to have a comfortable life in Australia while others out there just desperately need the basics to survive. And I just adore how Eva uses social media for both fun and good by speaking up against injustices and raise awareness about what can be done to help, so I am learning from her and I hope you are too. https://www.facebook.com/j4r.au/ is Justice for Refugees FB page, so please give it a look if you care about the struggling refugees and want to help in any way you can. At the end, we did wanna go into something fun and Eva really wanted to talk about sex, which I'm 100% down for, so Eva please come back and we'll have a whole talk on that, or if not for this poddy then just with me! On a more serious note, Eva's overall message to the world after this convo is "If we have the privilege to be able to speak up, we should step up, even in everyday conversations.", and I believe in its power simply because it actually aligns with what The Glocals is all about. I am in awe of where the podcast itself is heading and how these conversations are shaping me, so thank you so so much to everyone who has agreed to join me on this little journey of my life, and thank you to Eva for our fantastic time. You can find Eva on Facebook at Eva Jordens and Instagram @eva.jordens. Get to know her and learn more about how you can help refugees + heaps of other people in need. Recorded live in Melbourne CBD, VIC, Australia 3000 on Thursday 5 December 2019. This convo was recorded the day after I turned 24th, and also the day after I officially launched this podcast, so yes, it was a very exciting time. And naturally, it got Pooja and me talking about Birthdays because of all their awesomeness, but most importantly, because of how much we both love them. Before I keep ranting about how great our convo was, I do feel the need to introduce Pooja as the Queen of Everything. Literally. I've only known her for a short while but she has turned my world upside down in a magical way. She's introduced me to all the amazing humans that I've got to call friends, who also threw me the best birthday party ever. Well, never in my life had I experienced a surprise pop culture themed birthday party, and yes, I loved it and I love it. Not that my other friends aren't awesome, but this party was one of its kind, and the memories were just beautiful. So thank you heaps again guys, I feel so blessed to have you in my life! Back to this convo, it actually helped me put things into perspective regarding how all my relationships mean and how that shows through my birthday. That is because Pooja brought up the culture of celebrating birthdays and how birthdays can act as a filter for all your relationships. To her, they help her evaluate how much the relationships, especially friendships, have progressed and whether they are actually adding values to her life. To this point, I could not agree more, and I also feel that this is a great pointer should we feel confused in a relationship, no matter what kind of relationship that is. You know how we've learned to Kon-Marie our stuff, and now it's probably time to learn to Poo-Gan our relationships! Man, you gotta listen to the way Pooja talked about this, cause it was not only hilarious but also 100% applicable. Even though we discussed our own birthdays at length, the one thing that I love the most is probably how we both talked about how much we love and appreciate the people in our lives who have constantly been there and made the ride worthwhile. And to anyone who is not celebrating their birthday yet: Please find us, we will convert you into loving your birthday and enjoying it to the fullest. Always celebrate yourselves, for you are worth it! To my dearest DJ PJ: I love you, you have no idea! I appreciate you more than ever, and I hope to have you as a friend no matter where we are. For all your coming birthdays, I'll be there, one way or another. To my dear listeners: Thank you for being an amazing human, and I hope you cherish your birthdays, always. Is there anything that's been sparked in your soul after listening to us giggling birthdays away? If yes, please feel free to share it with me!! And if you are keen to find out more about Pooja, her IG is @sucubus4eve and you can also find her on Facebook and Linkedin @Pooja Ganesh. What an amazing human! Finally, after these 5 convos, if you feel like the show is actually adding values to your life, please help us - the humans of The Glocals share it and spread the knowledge, the love and the magic to others so everyone can gain a bit more empathy today. Recorded live in Melbourne CBD, Australia 3000 on Monday 16 Dec 2019. Almost 2 weeks ago, I joined the BMAP team at Out Beyond to explore Cape Otway along the Great Ocean Road with a bunch of international students in Melbourne, and that's how I came to know Thomas. Thomas would like to share that he's "a Sport Science/Sport Management student who is currently Co-President of EnactusVU, interning at BMAP and working at Marvel Stadium. Suss out https://beyond.melbourne for more info on BMAP". As for how well I know him, he's 20, yet he's quite sure about where he's heading in life, unlike others our age. Naturally, I asked him for a convo and I'm so glad he said yes, cause somehow we ended up having a debrief for the camp. Nonetheless, he did comment "It was refreshing to speak about life outside the camp, although we did eventually speak about BMAP.". That cracked me up considering how much the 3-day cultural exploration camp has become something even bigger than we'd imagined, or at least that's how it is for me. Being international students in Australia means a lot of things, one of which is striving to learn more about the Australian way and make friends along the way. I just got my degree 2 days ago, and I have done a lot of reflection on my journey so far, and what BMAP means to me. I guess all I can say is simply how much I wish this had happened last year instead of this year. The connections I've been able to make and the things I've learned mean so much to my Melbourne journey. But of course, it might mean something else were it a year ago, and it might not have made it to this podcast, or this podcast might not have even come about. Speaking of BMAP, it warms my heart every time I think of what I got to experience with the lovely people on that trip. That first night we got into the deep convo opening up everyone's heart, that convo we had with an Aboriginal Australian, that time we got to learn about the Beacon of Hope and that campfire we had - all the little things make barely sleeping in a tent through a cold night worth it. To me, it also gave me hope, the hope of a better time for international students in Melbourne. When asked to reflect on our convo, Thomas said "We acknowledge that there is work needed to bridge the relationship between domestic and international students.". I guess bridging that gap means more than just creating connections in Melbourne, and it actually means curating meaningful relationships and understandings between everyone, regardless of their background. Thank you heaps again Mr Shelby for having this meaningful convo with me! And to our BMAP mates, we love you and miss you (a lot of shoutouts in this convo!). Recorded live in Melbourne CBD, Australia on Monday 2 Dec 2019. Dear Noah, I love you so so much. Thank you for supporting my idea and for getting me coffee after recording this with me. And above all, thank you for being you. I learn so much from you and so grateful to have you as a friend, Lover! Meet Noah, my baby who guarantees to bring smiles on your face even on Melbourne's craziest day. We became friends in the weirdest scenario, with Noah calling me LANY at first cause I was wearing their merch the day we met. I then requested to be called Taylor Swift, which was absolutely 100% loved by Noah, because turns out, he's a Swiftie too! Long story short, a few months later, here we are. I just want to take a moment and acknowledge the fact that I adore Noah so much as a human who is so caring, and I also feel so grateful that he supports this podcast idea of mine so much. Doing this podcast has really allowed me to bravely ask my friends the deep questions knowing that they would talk about their desired topics with all their hearts. The same applies to Noah, and I am so grateful that we had this convo. To me personally, this convo has taken our friendship to the next level with me learning more about how my dear Noah sees Psychology beyond having it as his major at uni, and him learning more about me almost taking Psych for my undergrad. Learning about Psych in this way is deffo more fun and applicable for me, and hopefully for everyone. What are schemas and how can they help you understand your patterns of thoughts? Are there schemas in your personal lives that you can recognise? Are you awfulising your situation? Psychology is honestly so so fun and applicable in everyday life, but I am aware that not everyone has the privilege of learning about the basics of it despite its necessity. Even though I alone cannot better international education, perhaps my convo with Noah can help a lot of people out there struggling with their thoughts. There are certain things we can do to get ourselves out of the rut that we sometimes put ourselves in, and there are lessons we can learn from patterns of behaviour of ours, which funnily enough we can only understand years and years later. Noah and I did joke about making the convo about Taylor, but as she's turned 30 and made one hell of a speech accepting Woman of the Decade awards, we are deffo having one soon! Recorded live in Melbourne CBD, Australia on Friday 1 Nov 2019. Meet my Anna Banana, or as our mate Noah calls her, Annie Bananie, my newly found bestie with an age-old kind of friendship. We hit it off so well the first time we really talked that I thought it couldn't be real. But it is. I remember explaining my idea of The Glocals to her one day after uni and she just immediately picked it up and told me how meaningful this podcast can be to the world. I will never ever forget that moment cause I instantly knew that we are meant to be. We are both in our early 20s and figuring things out, and we don't know where we're heading. But we know that wherever we are, we have each other and our friendship is one to be cherished forever. Maybe that's why she just wanted to talk to me about friendship when we recorded this episode, and maybe she wanted to talk about it because friendship plays such a huge part in her life. We didn't have anything scripted and sometimes we didn't even know how to express ourselves, but we had such an awesome time reflecting on ourselves and laughing our butts off. I asked Anna if she'd like to add anything to the show notes and she just complimented on my writing. Honestly, I cannot express enough how grateful I am to have known this human. Shoutout to Pooja our queen for connecting us in the first place! One thing that I wanna point out is English serves as the second language for both of us, so the very fact that we could connect so well is a major testimonial for human connections regardless of all kinds of borders and differences. As we are approaching the end of this decade, it is so common to see long-distance friendships like what we are experiencing and about to experience in our own. I am so glad that we had this convo given that it has enabled us to understand each other's wishes for our own friendship and for friendships in our lives in general. Thanks to this random deep chat like all the others of ours, we have also been able to envision our future even though it's bittersweet to think about. Agreeing that maintaining this friendship, like any others, has got to be a 2-way street, Anna and I have felt more confident in being friends, making friends and keeping friends. As much as we would like to share with the world that it takes effort to be a good friend, we would also love to acknowledge that being a good friend requires as much as a short meaningful message or a quick check-in call. As we found each other, we'd also lost some friends and now we know that it's actually for our sake. We got to filter our circles and reflect on our life changes, and we have found more people like us. It is such an important and beautiful thing. We are grateful for each other and all of our amazing friends. We are so grateful to be able to share our lessons with you, and we know that more friendship lessons will come to us. But for now, we hope our convo can inspire you in some ways to be a better friend, making more meaningful friendships, and especially, making that one phone call or sending that one message you know you should have made or sent in a while. All our love, Anna and Lu P/S: Hey Anna my darling, I love this convo of ours so much and I am so glad we can listen to it again whenever we miss each other, so may we keep the sparks alive, always. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/the-glocals/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/the-glocals/support

Convo #1: What does The Glocals even mean?

Recorded live in Melbourne, Australia. Hey there! Have we talked before? If not, then this is the perfect chance to start a conversation. I am starting The Glocals as a platform to share the real stuff through daily conversations. What we talk about matters, don't you think? The Glocals might seem like a new term, or maybe not, but I love the fact that we are approaching the end of this decade and welcoming 2020 with a whole new world of Locals living as Global citizens, hence The Glocals! Compared to the last decade, the community that we have now is a completely different one. With this change, it is so important that we are culturally aware, socially aware, self aware, and ... everything aware! However, it does not mean that everyone gets to be places, so I thought I'd take everyone places with this podcast. I learn so much from just talking to my glocal friends and glocal people I get to meet, and I am forever grateful for what I have learned over the past 2 years in Australia. Now, I am so excited to not only share these conversations with the world, but also have them saved forever so I can listen to these lessons over and over, whenever I want. If you feel like this is something that would add magic to your life, why don't you give it a listen and take this open conversation to the next step by letting me know your thoughts? --- This episode is sponsored by ยท Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/the-glocals/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/the-glocals/support
