In this heartfelt interview, Rebecca introduces us to the practice of KonMari for sorting through belongings at such a difficult time in our lives. The method is particularly beneficial for highly sensitive people as it gently encourages mindfully letting go while regulating our nervous system with what is manageable and with what resonates with our emotional readiness. The method has a focus on the positive psychology of surrounding ourselves with what brings us joy and inspires gratitude. In this video, Rebecca will walk us through the main teachings of the practice so that we can start sorting belongings with kindness and compassion, rewiring our negativity bias and the need to live by external conditioning. Working with KonMarie principles has also assisted Rebecca and her family in their own consumption habits which is another added bonus to managing things in this way. Title: Organizing Your Nerves Host: Caylie O'Patik Guest: Katy Annuli, Professional Organizer, Founder of KMA Organizing Key Points: Katy Annuli discusses the connection between physical clutter and mental clutter. Organizing your space can help reduce anxiety and create a calmer environment. Letting go of sentimental items that no longer bring you joy can be a powerful way to clear energy and free yourself from emotional baggage. Time blocking and creating lists are effective strategies for managing mental clutter. Katy recommends labeling items in your home to make it easier for everyone to find what they need and put things away. Assigning chores and creating routines can help family members contribute to keeping the house organized. Actionable Tips: Set a timer for 15 minutes each night to clean up a specific area of your home. Label shelves, bins, and drawers to make it clear where things belong. Get the whole family involved in decluttering and organizing tasks. Consider hiring a professional organizer if you need help getting started or overcoming challenges. Listen to two poems about decluttering and letting go of stuff. They’re about the kind of transformation that needs to happen as old age approaches. It’s not just material things that clutter up your life. There’s a sort of psychic clutter that has also got to go.

Verder leren we eigenlijk weinig over opruimen. Today's guest helped me to understand that minimalism is so much more than just throwing things out, or "sparking joy." It's an act of intentionalism with your things that in turn will help you be more intentional in your life overall. Devin VonderHaar, owner of the modern minimalist, certified silver KonMari Consultant and professional organizer. The modern minimalist was created to empower women to live their ideal lifestyle, through the lens of organization. One part life coach, one part counseling, mostly decluttering. A little bit I liked a lot: 25.00 :: It starts with the things and it kinda evolves from there. You get more intentional about your relationships, family dynamics, the way you treat other people, your career, there are so many applications this can spread to when you start honing in on only being intentional." The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up with Kathryn Kelly certified KonMarie organizer by Marie Kondo Part 1. Simplify & Organize. “Life begins when you put your home in order!”Create a simple, tidy home you love to be in. What is your vision for you home? For Kathryn Kelly (Refresh Organizing) it was a cozy cottage in Napa Valley that had very few items but all of them were absolutely lovely. She went through the rigorous certification process by (our queen!) Marie Kondo herself and is now one of the very select few licensed Konmari organizers. She walks us through the process and how we can all put our house (and lives!) In order. Topics discussed: organizing by category instead of by room, having a clear “why” and “vision” for your home and how you can EVEN “konmarie” your schedule. (We are GEEKING OUT over this episode! Recorded live in Melbourne CBD, VIC, Australia 3000 on Thursday 5 December 2019. This convo was recorded the day after I turned 24th, and also the day after I officially launched this podcast, so yes, it was a very exciting time. And naturally, it got Pooja and me talking about Birthdays because of all their awesomeness, but most importantly, because of how much we both love them. Before I keep ranting about how great our convo was, I do feel the need to introduce Pooja as the Queen of Everything. Literally. I've only known her for a short while but she has turned my world upside down in a magical way. She's introduced me to all the amazing humans that I've got to call friends, who also threw me the best birthday party ever. Well, never in my life had I experienced a surprise pop culture themed birthday party, and yes, I loved it and I love it. Not that my other friends aren't awesome, but this party was one of its kind, and the memories were just beautiful. So thank you heaps again guys, I feel so blessed to have you in my life! Back to this convo, it actually helped me put things into perspective regarding how all my relationships mean and how that shows through my birthday. That is because Pooja brought up the culture of celebrating birthdays and how birthdays can act as a filter for all your relationships. To her, they help her evaluate how much the relationships, especially friendships, have progressed and whether they are actually adding values to her life. To this point, I could not agree more, and I also feel that this is a great pointer should we feel confused in a relationship, no matter what kind of relationship that is. You know how we've learned to Kon-Marie our stuff, and now it's probably time to learn to Poo-Gan our relationships! Man, you gotta listen to the way Pooja talked about this, cause it was not only hilarious but also 100% applicable. Even though we discussed our own birthdays at length, the one thing that I love the most is probably how we both talked about how much we love and appreciate the people in our lives who have constantly been there and made the ride worthwhile. And to anyone who is not celebrating their birthday yet: Please find us, we will convert you into loving your birthday and enjoying it to the fullest. Always celebrate yourselves, for you are worth it! To my dearest DJ PJ: I love you, you have no idea! I appreciate you more than ever, and I hope to have you as a friend no matter where we are. For all your coming birthdays, I'll be there, one way or another. To my dear listeners: Thank you for being an amazing human, and I hope you cherish your birthdays, always. Is there anything that's been sparked in your soul after listening to us giggling birthdays away? If yes, please feel free to share it with me!! And if you are keen to find out more about Pooja, her IG is @sucubus4eve and you can also find her on Facebook and Linkedin @Pooja Ganesh. What an amazing human! Finally, after these 5 convos, if you feel like the show is actually adding values to your life, please help us - the humans of The Glocals share it and spread the knowledge, the love and the magic to others so everyone can gain a bit more empathy today. Thank you! Love, Pooja and Lu --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/the-glocals/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/the-glocals/support

AfterBirth: 1/09/19 Holiday Shenanigans Mama D's baby projectile vomits, and then everybody gets the crud, kinda like that episode of the Office. So it wasn't the fireworks that kept everyone up, it was the vomiting. Also processing grief while in a hunting blind (hey this is Texas). We get a Muslim cultural lesson on rituals of death, which helped us to support Mama D better. Paige is 4 weeks postpartum! Nipples are adjusting to "hungry fiend" Willow. Katelin tries to talk her through joining the group and navigating tech. And she had a birth center birth with local midwife Jackie Griggs, Midwife in the Heights. We talk sex reveal of Mama D's baby. This is a direct quote from Katelin, "The first time is the only time I am so excited to see a ball sack." Katelin flips out from the button pushing from her sister and rebounds back to strong mom decisions. Tiff had a chill holiday, rode a Christmas train in the park. Hubs was home for two weeks. Do you remember the exact age? Maybe it was the year you bought your home or the day you got married. It might have been the result of something traumatic like the loss of a family member or a joyful moment like the birth of a child. There is a finite amount of time in this world. Our attention is limited. We reach a certain point in our lives and additional effort either seems too hard or just not worth it.It is not at all uncommon.Read the original article here: https://goodmenproject.com/guy-talk/queer-eye-marie-kondo-and-the-stagnant-self-rbmke-cmtt/
In Episode 37, I talked about the spirituality of a messy home and explained that I didn't really resonate with the KonMarie Philosophy. Well, I'm a convert! And I was perhaps a little insensitive. This short little episode explains why.

“Am I good enough? Yes I am.” – Michelle Obama We all have our own journey, but so often there is something, sometimes one little thing that we take from somebody else’s experience that helps us. This is me being 100% real about what I think about, what I do (and sometimes what I don’t do). I’m still figuring out the flow between work and family and wellness. Here are a few lessons I’m learning and continuing to play with. I am enough. I spent most of my life thinking I wasn’t thin enough or rich enough or smart enough. A few months ago I was trying to figure out the next steps in my business, and I actually had the thought, “I am not man enough.” I’m still tested by the idea of being enough, but the why behind putting time into my wellness is to remind myself everyday that I am enough. Freedom does not mean no rules. Boundaries are so important. In order to feel well in my body, I had to understand what I should eat. I’ve had a rule around not eating gluten and dairy for 10 years now, but many rules are shorter lived. I like to call them experiments: ditching coffee for a week, committing to a cleanse for 21 days, gifting myself a good nights sleep. This year I am working on work boundaries. I’m making the effort to work 8–3 while the kids are in school, keeping weekends for family, and planning for sick days or vacation days. Big Rocks have to come first and be non-negotiable. Big Rocks are three things that move you towards your dreams. They do not have to take the most time, but every day I do them, I feel like I got something done. Where do you want to be 10 years from now? What small thing can you do today to move you towards that? Think about 30 minutes writing the outline for your book, 1 hour prepping food for a cleanse, 10 minutes sharing your passion project with a friend, a day cleaning the basement. Planning is my best tool with the highest ROI. A big part of planning is committing and making space, so the act of planning really makes me consider what things even belong in my day. Productive does not mean busy. When I plan, I’m not always reacting. Instead, I make sure I’m making space for the things I want to do and to get done the things that need to get done. My plan is not a set and forget thing. My planner can look a little messy, but I found out recently that is OK! I went through a phase where I wanted super beautiful, Instagram-worthy pages, but lately I realize the messier the better, because life is messy. Sometimes by Wednesday my meal plan is off, a kid gets sick, or I don’t have time to cut all the veggies for ratatouille the night I have it planned. Sometimes I don’t get something done at all for work or around the house, so I need to make more time to do it later in the week. Sometimes I ignore a timeblock all together, but if I am going to take my planning seriously, I have to move it somewhere else. I actually go back and account for changes I make in my planner. Messy, but it makes my planning real and helps me stay accountable. My money is an important part of my wellness journey.I have a lot of really limiting beliefs about money and my worth. My MO has been to ignore it, but I know that doesn’t work. I feel very much at the beginning of my journey on this issue. In the past few years I have gotten more confident being honest about money. I think more about what I need, why I’m willing to spend on things (maybe it was ethically made or supports a friend in business), and what causes I want my money to go to. Measurement is not all bad. I was inspired by an amazing coach named Christie to really ritualistically acknowledge money as it comes in. Know when payday is, have a gratitude practice when you see the money in your account. It took me a while to actually do this. This year I also started using an app called YNAB, short for You Need a Budget. Measuring money can be good. Measuring time and social media followers can be good. Maybe food measuring and the scale are not as bad as I have thought. I think it’s what you do with the information. Clutter can really get in the way of feeling productive. If I am having a hard time doing work, it means something needs to be cleaned or decluttered. Before I sat down to create this podcast, I cleaned the kitchen and my desk. Literally, I had been trying to thing of ideas for days, and after a relatively quick clean-up, the ideas came flooding. Things to clean: your phone (can you get down to one screen of apps) a closet (try the Kon Marie method), your head (write lists to dump everything onto paper). The little people are watching. If I have a bad day, my kids have a bad day. If I am stressed about dinner, they don’t eat. When I make an effort to design good days, they have good days. I find a way to enjoy cooking by making food I want to eat, listening to music, having my kids close by doing homework. They eat everything. I plan. Checklists appear on their walls with what things they need to get done. I talk about drinking water, they drink water. I meditate. Meditation becomes something they each find and love. None of us dream of our kids growing up to be stressed and feel trapped, so model the feeling of your dream. This is a journey. There is always more. We get so focused on the destination, but what if we focus on the journey and the next step. This year I am working on feng shui, cleaning up our cleaning supplies, getting old medicine out of the house, slow fashion, retuning my energy, making the money we need to renovate our house, my daughter’s sleep, our home, reaching more moms. I have come so far from the tired, always sneezing 85 pounds overweight Mia from 11 years ago. But my body is always changing, my kids are getting older, my work has gone in different directions. Everyday I have to listen to my body. Everyday, I have to remember what I am here to do. Everyday I have to remind myself that I am enough. These are lessons I think about regularly, and I wanted to put them on your radar. Which one resonated with you the most? Which have you learned but need to revisit? Because, like I said, it’s a journey and we are constantly figuring thing out and then having new situations to apply them too. Keep at it. You are enough! Doable Changes from this episode: EXPERIMENT WITH A BOUNDARY. I like to experiment with rules around my food and wellness and work. That means I’m not committing forever, but maybe for a day or a week or a month. Try ditching coffee for a week, commiting to a cleanse for 21 days, gifting yourself a good nights sleep, setting an end time to your work day and shutting off communication then. See how it feels. See if it’s a rule you want to keep or tweak. DO ONE SMALL THING TOWARD A BIG DREAM. Where do you want to be in 10 years? Do one small thing today to move you towards that. Is it about 30 minutes writing the outline for your book, 1 hour prepping food for a cleanse, 10 minutes sharing your passion project with a friend, a day cleaning the basement? Choose your one thing and put it on your calendar. Do the same thing tomorrow. And the next day. DECLUTTER ONE THING. Clear out a cupboard in the kitchen. Clear apps off your phone. Use the Kon Marie method to clean out a closet. Write a big braindump of a list to clear our your head. Don’t think about your whole house or even a whole room. Think small. Dive in and see how that clear space makes you feel.

I declutter regularly and don't feel sentimental to objects in my house, for the most part, so when Marie Kondo's book came out in 2014, I wasn't all that interested. But once her TV show came out on Netflix this January, I decided to watch it and see what the excitement was all about. I was hooked on her methods from the first show and after watching three of them, got inspired to declutter all of my clothes and my kitchen. It truly was more than just getting rid of stuff - it was a personals, spiritual experience to learn a new, balanced way of living. On Episode 200 of the Mama Bear Dares Podcast, Tesi and Leslie talk about the Marie Kondo craze that has so many of us captivated and curious. In true Mama Bear fashion, they provide commentary on Kondo’s Mama Bear methods by acknowledging her sometimes counter-cultural method and her critique of gendered social norms and the excessive consumerism so often exercised in the Western world. The women praise Marie Kondo’s emphasis on gratitude and celebrate her quiet revolution of equality. With a small analysis of the “mental load” so many women share and talk of a little xenophobia thrown in for good measure, the women have a great time discussing the KonMarie method and the layers it entails. Be honest, have you ever lied to your doctor? It turns out a disturbing number of patients are not forthcoming with their physicians. Many say they just don't want to be judged or lectured, and some doctors say this disturbing new information, published in the American Medical Association Journal, is a wake up call for both patient and physician. Toronto doctor Iris Gorfinkel joins Libby to talk about it. And – January seems to be the month for self improvement. There's VEGANUARY, DRY-JANUARY and now, many are buying into a wildly popular decluttering program, spearheaded by organizing guru Marie Condo whose drastic tidying tenets have inspired legions of followers. Libby talks to KonMarie method practitioner Ivanka Siolkowsky.

After reading The Life-changing Magic of Tidying Up by Marie Kondo in 2 days, I went after my own complete detox. Learning to get rid of the things that were just taking up space in my life and truly letting go of what no longer served me helped so much! I felt lighter, happier, and crystal clear on what was important to me. In this episode I give you the SparkNotes version of the book so you can start your own decluttering journey- mind, body, and spirit. Enjoy! Love, peace, and positivity! This is an AD-FREE podcast. On this week’s episode along with checking in + a segment we're calling 'HGTV Report Card', we dive in to part 2 of a 3 part conversation about how to declutter literally anything.Last week, we talked about how the decluttering process is actually pretty simple. It's just 3 steps: 1. Choose and empty out a space. 2. Sort the stuff you emptied to decide what stays and what goes. 3. Put the keep stuff back in the space. But - there are so many roadblocks every step along the way that can completely derail our clutter-free plan. Whether its lack of time, lack of motivation, or emotional attachments to that Easy Bake Oven that is broken but you just can't part with ... decluttering is hard - BUT ITS WORTH IT!!Why is it worth it? Put on your scuba gear and go deep with us for a minute. There's an underlying assumption in our consumer driven world that more stuff will make us happier ... which is not necessarily true. We all know that, but do our buying/accumulating actions back that belief up?More stuff = more work for more money to be able to buy the stuff.More stuff = more work to have to maintain/clean the stuff we haveMore stuff (for example, clothes) = more time/emotional stress to decide what to wearMo' money, mo' problems (not incredibly relevant, but seemed appropriate)And - did you know that there is actually a link between clutter and depression????? That blew our mind, but actually makes sense, and just to be real, explains a lot in our experience. Have you ever been here: At the end of the day you want to relax, but as you see all the stuff around you that's in the wrong place, it puts you on edge ... which leads to feeling like a failure because we can't do something simple like keep our houses straightened up ... which we can't do because we're so tired from the work we had to do to buy the stuff ... which leaves us in a vicious cycle of guilt.Do you feel me? Do you want to feel like this anymore? I know I don't! Stuff isn't what makes us happy, its what we do with our possessions, and more importantly, the people that we use them with that make us happy. Less stuff gives more time for what’s really important. So, what do you do after you've chosen a space and emptied it out (more on that from our last podcast)? It's time for Step 2: sorting time (insert Harry Potter sorting hat joke here). In this step, you go through what you've emptied and decide what stays and what goes. What can be so hard about that? I'll tell you what's hard: how stinkin' emotionally attached we are to so much of our stuff - stuff that we never use, but something in our heart just can't let it go. The big obstacle in this step is that getting rid of stuff can be emotional work! We've heard it said that CLUTTER IS INDECISION (in caps b/c this is the story of my (Katie's) life), and the indecision of whether something can stay or should go can totally derail the sorting process. Here's what's helped us overcome this obstacle:First, ask three questions about each item:1. Do I use this item regularly (set a time - in the past 3 months, this season, in the past year)?2. Do I need this item?3. Do I love this? Kon Marie says you should touch (which Philip thinks is a little weird but does it anyway) each item and ask, does it bring me joy?Second, sort the times into 3 piles:1. Keep - the things you answered yes to the above questions to - I use it. I need it. I love it.2. Going Bye Bye - stuff that doesn't stack up. I don't use it. I don't need it (the cost in the space its taking up isn't worth keeping it). I don't love it (get rid of those clothes that make you feel bad b/c you can't fit in them anymore!!).Tip - for some people, selling stuff on eBay or Craigslist can make it easier to part with. For some people, giving stuff away to someone who will actually use it will make it easier to part with.Tip - go digital w/docs and memories as much as possible so you can get rid of the physical stuff, but maybe have a small memories box for each kid and yourselves.3. This changed everything for us: PURGE-ATORY, a middle place for things you're undecided about, where you set the things aside for a month + if you don't think about or need them, you can feel better about purging them. With purge-atory, instead of getting derailed by not being able to decide if something stays or goes, it can go in the purge-atory box and be decided on later. You can do this! This week, I invite my husband, Brandon, into the podcast, and we talk about the art of saying, “NO!”, in order to say, “YES!” Saying no can be super hard; especially if you’ve always been taught that telling someone no is a bad thing. Whether we say yes or we say no, there’s always an opportunity cost involved. What we need to figure out is which opportunity cost we’re most willing to give up or live without. We talk about how we only have 936 weeks of influence from the day our children are born until their 18th birthday. (We actually said 986 in the podcast. That was not the right number. The actual number is 936.)YES! 936 weeks, people! That's it! So... I went out and bought 1872 marbles to represent both of our boys (and counted each and every one) as a visual that we will be using in a video later this week, so stay tuned. You get to see how many marbles (weeks) of influence we have left with our older son. I seriously wanted to cry! Visit our website at teaoflifepodcast@com for shownotes and links.

Let me start by saying this is not an evil ploy to make you have a new year’s resolution about tidying and decluttering more this year. No. I was inspired to start the year off with Sally because early January is often a time we have more time to focus inwards, at home, no rush of school or offices yet, no inbox full with demands… And many of us live in spaces we’re not entirely happy with, whether it’s how they look or feel in general, or whether it’s an “I’ve got too much stuff” feeling. Sally Flower was the first Aussie to train with Marie Kondo herself in the USA, and she brings us her best strategies for falling in love with your home, by falling in love with a mindful tidy. It’s a great show, super practical and I hope you enjoy it! I know I’m feeling more tidy already. For the show notes head to lowtoxlife.com/podcast.
Have you noticed how popular decluttering has become lately? Why do you think that is? Listen to The Jenn’s talk about whether or not the things you donate hold energy and what it feels like to declutter things that still have some meaning. On Today’s episode, I discuss the effects of a cluttered life with Ivanka Siolkowsky. We dive into the emotional and professional aspects of clutter and how to turn things around. Ivanka Siolkowsky was once an extremely organized teacher who turned her passion into a professional organizing business. Her enthusiasm was driven by reading Marie Kondo’s book and instituting the KonMarie method on her life. She now helps others cut down on clutter and organize their lives. Topics: Marie Kondo and her KonMari method or organization Organizing by category instead of by room Looking critically at our work wardrobes Changing the way you fold to increase space Storing seasonal or weight-related clothing items The benefit of implementing the KonMari method to your work space/office Using the KonMari method when packing This podcast is courtesy of Pitch Graphic Design, a Toronto based firm, whose goal is to provide quality graphic designs for Public Relations. Ergonomische Keyboards übertrieben Für unsere Freunde des ergonomischen Keyboards: Even I'll admit that this might be a bit much pic.twitter.com/lrDKOIcuOX— Kevin MacLeod (@AfterPad) February 2, 2016 Patrick’s erstes ist in der Zwischenzeit auch angekommen… Super excited to play around with my new 40% #mechanicalkeyboard — The Planck by Ortholinear Keyboards. Wer also den nächsten Welteroberungsplan festhält mittels Day One, sollte vorerst bei Version 1 verweilen. Artwork).
