Channel Nine has recently been defending itself against accusations it intentionally altered a photo of Animal Justice Party MP Georgie Purcell to make it more revealing. The news organisation claimed the edit was not a human error but rather due to AI's automation within Photoshop. Rob sat down with Dr TJ Thomson, senior lecturer at RMIT, to see how credible Channel Nine's claim is. Recently, the International Court of Justice (ICJ) issued an order rebutting Israel's denials, with the binding of its "Israel must". Grace spoke with Dr Awni Etaywe, a linguistics lecturer at Charles Darwin University discussing the ongoing ICJ's South Africa-Israel court case, looking at the linguistic aspect of the binding with "Israel must", and the prejudice Israel claims with this decision. Dr Etaywe is also a forensic linguistic researcher, focusing on terrorism, incitement to hatred, radicalisation and genocide, and digital deviance. He was a former United Nations expert on missions and observer of human rights violations in the Democratic Republic of Congo.  Later today (February 12) a protest will be held outside the Egyptian consulate to protest the country's complicity in Israel's ethnic cleansing of Palestine. Rob spoke with Mohammad Helmy, a former board member of the Islamic Council of Victoria and a Greens member to examine how Egypt is complicit and how it benefits from supporting Israel's killing spree.Protest Against Egpyt's Complicity When: February 12, 12 pm Where: 50 Market St, Melbourne CBD How to show support? Please attend to show your support for a free Palestine if you can. Ep. 44 The Life of Pastor Daniel Nalliah

WilmsFront

Play Episode Listen Later Feb 12, 2020 77:20

Throughout his life, Pastor Daniel Nalliah has risen to be one of Australia's most prominent patriot activists and Christian voices. He is my guest in the studio for the midweek edition of WilmsFront as I go through his journey to Australia and the battles he's faced against hostile forces. We start in Daniel's country of birth Sri Lanka, last Easter Christians were attacked by an Islamic terrorist group that shocked most of the world. Daniel is of Tamil ethnicity and explains the violence of the civil war that the Tamil Tigers fought against the Sinhalese majority from 1983 to 2009 and how the nation has healed since then. Daniel moved to the theocratic sharia law-governed Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in 1995. He witnessed beheadings and faced arrest and possible death himself for smuggling and distributing bibles to Christians in the Kingdom. He assisted in securing the release of 31 Christians arrested for practicing their faith in the Kingdom and lobbied for the US Congress to pass the International Religious Freedom Act of 1998. Daniel and his family migrated to Australia in 1997 and quickly assimilated into Australian culture. He established his church the Catch the Fire Ministries and a national Christian prayer movement called Rise Up Australia. He and another Pastor Daniel Scot were the first targets of Victoria's Racial Religious Tolerance 2001 when the Islamic Council of Victoria sent three white Muslims to a seminar his church held on the teachings of Islam to get offended. The two pastors were taken to the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal under Section 8 of the Act for Religious Vilification. After a five-year legal battle costing $600,000 they were found not guilty by Victoria's Supreme Court. Rise Up Australia become a political party in 2010, the party was ironically called racist and white supremacist despite the fact Daniel himself is Sri Lankan and the members of his party come from almost every ethnicity. Rise Up participated in the Reclaim Australia movement and United Patriots Front activism. Given both movements were called racist with neo-Nazi members I ask Daniel about his experience with both movements given he was happy to speak and participate and the other members of the movements were happy to stand with him. Daniel and I discuss how multiculturalism has failed in Australia creating tribal communities. Elements of Islamic sharia are now incorporated by our welfare system. Daniel supports a reduction in Muslim migration, focusing on bringing in persecuted Christians but does not support significant cuts to Australia's annual migration intake. The Rise Up Australia Party was deregistered last year, Daniel explains this was a combination of the election of minor parties in Australia becoming more difficult and his faith in Prime Minister Scott Morrison delivering for Australia and its Christians. I ask Daniel his views on the proposed Religious Discrimination Act. Rugby player Israel Folau was criticized by the media recently in a recorded sermon at his family church where he claimed Australia's black summer of bushfires were due to New South Wales legalizing abortion and same-sex marriage. Daniel made similar remarks after Victoria's 2009 Black Saturday bushfires, I ask him to clarify those remarks. Shah Mohammed Reza Pahlavi flees Iran as Islamic Ayatollah takes control. In 1941, Britain and the Soviet Union invaded Iran to replace the Iranian monarch, the shah of Iran, with his son, Mohammed Reza Pahlavi. The new shah reigned over his country with limited powers until 1953, when his supporters – helped by the British and American governments – removed the country’s prime minister in a coup. In the 1960s, the shah brought in reforms in an effort to liberalize the country. He also chose to take strong action against the growing tide of Muslim support. In 1963, the Ayatollah Ruholla Khomeini was imprisoned, then exiled for his opposition to the shah’s regime. For every act of opposition, the shah would bring in stronger measures, violating human rights in order to hold onto power. With the Ayatollah receiving considerable support in exile, the battle lines were drawn. Near the end of his regime, the shah imposed martial law, but it was not enough to dissuade the Ayatollah’s supporters from enacting massive strikes in the country’s lucrative oil fields. On January 16, 1979, Shah Mohammed Reza Pahlavi and his wife, Empress Farah, left Tehran for Egypt, never to return. The Ayatollah returned from exile in France, and he and his Islamic Council took control of Iran and imposed a strict state of Islamic law. The shah died in Egypt in 1980.   CrsRadio.com Not Good NEWS... Prince Buster's funeral Yesterday Sibling brawl at cemetery R.I.P .. In sharp contrast to the accepted principle of Islam being a religion that preaches peace, the sons of late ska pioneer Prince Buster marred his funeral yesterday when they engaged in a verbal brawl that almost became physical outside the Islamic Council of Jamaica on Camp Road in St Andrew. The uproar occurred just after Sheikh Musa Tijani concluded the brief Muslim funeral rites. At the centre of the fracas, which saw the siblings hurling insults at each other, was the final resting place of their late father. The ska legend had apparently asked to be buried at May Pen Cemetery in his West Kingston community.

On May 31, the No Room for Racism campaign co-hosted a forum on racism and Islamophobia with the Islamic Council of Victoria at the Richmond Town Hall in the City of Yarra. United Patriots Front, a breakaway group from Reclaim Australia, attracting neo-Nazis and white supremacists, insisted on holding a 'counter-rally' on the street. This week we attempt to unpick and analyze the underlying social and political currents driving these developments. Seemingly a distant issue from the environmental concerns of Dirt Radio, these developments are symptomatic of a emergent politcal culture lurching even further to the right, which ultimately will have an impact on all forms of progressive activism.
