Appreciating Life's Challenges: Spiritual and Physical Laws
Welcome back to "Construct Your Life." I'm here with your Friday rant. Today, I'm covering a topic that doesn't get enough attention: being likable. You might not find this in a book, but trust me, being someone others want to hang out with is a game-changer in both life and business. Summary: In this episode, I break down why being likable is a true superpower. It's not about being self-centered; it's about genuinely listening and being there for others. By focusing on adding value to those around you, you'll naturally attract people who want to be in your orbit. Life is incredible, and my journey from sobriety to personal growth has taught me invaluable lessons about appreciating every moment. Key Highlights: - The Likability Factor: Understand how being likable can be the key that opens unexpected doors in life and business. - Genuine Listening: Learn the importance of focusing on others, asking meaningful questions, and making connections for them. - Building a Favor Bank: Discover the value of giving favors without expecting immediate returns—it's about making deposits, not withdrawals. - Enhancing Lives: Explore how leaving others better than you found them creates a win-win situation. - Choose Positivity: My personal journey through sobriety, divorce, and weight loss has shaped my outlook on maintaining a positive and blessed perspective. - Appreciating Life's Moments: From a good cup of coffee to global connections, embrace the excitement and beauty of everyday life. - Self-Reflection: Encourage yourself to become the person others want to be around by cherishing life's blessings. Life is amazing when you embrace it fully, and being likable is all about contributing to that joy. Hope you find value in this, and I'll see you next time.

18-year-old Josh Anslow has set the mountain biking world alight with his positive mindset and all-around excited energy, making us all stop and really appreciate everything we have right in front of us. Even after not achieving his goal of qualifying at the first round in Lenzerhide, Switzerland he was still visually over the mood just to be a part of the world cups, while also pushing himself in the process. Joshy shows us all that we don't have to win to actually "win" and if you look a little closer at what you do have you will realize you have been winning the whole time. We sat down in Snowshoe a couple of days before my accident to have a chat about how Josh had managed to get himself to the other side of the world racing bikes and how it's been going so far. Enjoy! In today's episode Andy and Jonas sat down with Michelle Steinke-Baumgard. As an author, speaker, fitness coach, mother, and remarried widow, Michelle is on a mission to help people live a full, fit, and intentional life beyond life's hardest moments. After losing her husband Mitch in 2009, Michelle used exercise to work through her grief and found it to be so powerful that she eventually quit her corporate job and become a full-time fitness coach. Since then, Michelle went on to write the quintessential book on healing through exercise, Healthy Healing: A Guide to Working Out Grief. As part of her work, Michelle also leads groups on adventures that test and push people outside their comfort zone, expanding their perspective of the world and of themselves, while also helping them to truly live life to the fullest. Michelle also gives back to the community in a big way, through her nonprofit, Live the List. This organization helps widows and widowers complete bucket list dreams to honor their late spouse while also moving boldly into their future. Oftentimes, we get so accustomed to our daily routine that we forget to enjoy life. We forget to appreciate some of the finer things. We spend so much time trying to better ourselves or better our situations that we don't remember to appreciate the current situation. We've talked before about the concept of disconnection as a means of staying grounded and enjoying our surroundings. Not just binging Netflix, but really engaging in some fulfilling pastime. One of Eli's favorite practices is taking a "Week of Disconnection" every few months (see episode 65!), but here he examines the topic from a daily perspective. Ultimately, all these discussions on disconnection come back to one key question: "How do I become more in the world and less in myself?"
Have you ever lost something and then started to appreciate what you had? Do we take all the goodness in our lives for granted? Karma Tensum was born in Tibet and escaped to India with his family at a very young age, fleeing the violent Chinese Occupation of Tibet in 1959. Thanks to the educational sponsorship program setup by The Dalai Lama, and the kindness of individuals who participated in this program, Karma was able to attend Wynberg-Allen School, Mussoorie—one of the top schools in India—which set him on a track to pursue higher education and teaching. In 1994, he won a Fulbright Scholarship and got his Master's from Harvard Graduate School with a concentration in International Education. As a leading Tibetan educationalist, Karma was a member of the first Tibetan National Education Policy Committee that helped to draft the inaugural policy document for Tibetan education in exile.Karma has dedicated his life to Tibetan children in various capacities—as a teacher, administrator, planner and fundraiser in both Dharamsala and Clement Town, India. It was here that he met India Supera, founder of the Feathered Pipe Ranch, and developed a lifelong friendship that led to many good works, including the founding of the Tibetan Children's Education Foundation. For 18 years, Karma has lived in Montana and worked as the executive director of TCEF, a nonprofit that runs scholarships programs similar to the one that put him through school and funds projects to preserve Tibetan culture and arts. This is a nostalgic conversation filled with the miracles of his life. He reflects on how he's been able to stay grounded in his Tibetan spirituality and heritage despite having lived outside of his native country for all but the first three years of his life.We explore the meaning of the word home; discuss the ways that indigenous wisdom and ancient traditions like Buddhism can teach us about healing, the arts, and the importance of strengthening the muscle of the heart; and how it's possible to hold pain and gratitude in the palm of the same hand--the heartache of being forced out of his homeland yet staying open to receive the blessings that have touched his life.Tibetan Children's Education FoundationSupport the show (https://featheredpipe.com/gratitude/)
