Today is my birthday, and I'm releasing a solo episode reflecting on 365 days. I've journaled and blogged a lot over the years, and thought it would be a fun trip down memory lane to read some old entries of a journal I wrote in over 8 years ago. I entitled it 365 Days of Zen because at the time, I was reading a book of daily quotes from mindfulness leader, Thich Nhat Hanh. When we are in the moment and feeling overwhelmed, it is challenging to remember how far we have come. I don't like to look "backwards" often, but when I do take a moment to reflect on and read some of the things I've written years ago, it is a gentle reminder that yes, I have come a long way. I hope that you enjoy listening to some of my old writings! And yes, today I am allowing myself to celebrate ME! I am a Pediatric Integrative Physician, wife and mother to two beautiful boys. In 2009 I graduated from Goryeb Children's Hospital in Morristown, NJ. After working 60 hours a week in Private Practice for 3 years, I gave birth to my precious baby boy. My original plan was to return back to work part-time but everything changed once he was born. I decided to be a stay-at-home mom. During this time I also gave birth to my my second son. Before I knew it, 4 years had gone by in beautiful, chaotic, perfect life. After returning to work I realized I was no longer the same practitioner. My years at home as a mom helped me redefine my practice mindset. What I learned theoretically was not necessarily practical for all families. This real life experience combined with my Pediatric Knowledge led me to pursue a certification in Integrative Medicine at the Andrew Weil Center of Integrative Medicine. With this approach, healing takes into account the whole person, including all aspects of lifestyle. As this is a traditional Catholic pilgrimage, the way of Saint James and culminating at the Campesino de Santiago Cathedral.  However, it is a path that many pilgrims seek to soothe their spirits and connect a community of seekers. I am a physician, a mother of 4, and a fitness junkie!! I am an Anesthesiologist in Milwaukee, WI where I work full time practicing the full scope of Anesthesia practice. I am also a mother of 4 beautiful boys, ages 2, 4, 6, 8. Juggling work and motherhood is no small feat (especially with my crazy hours), and one of the ways that I make sure I am able to take care of everyone else is by taking care of myself. I do this by practicing self-care in the form of exercise. Fitness has taken on different meanings to me in different phases of my life and currently I feel like I have come full circle. I was a runner at the onset, but my fitness routine has taken on different forms as the demands of motherhood have taken over. For years, the best time for me to exercise was early in the morning or during kids naps and due to this I started doing more at-home workouts. As my kids are now getting older, I am now training for the New York City Marathon in Nov, 2020. In addition to being passionate about fitness, I am also passionate about all things motherhood. I live by the mantra that you have to take and respect your own journey and try not to compare it to anyone else's journey. Last, but not least, my professional expertise in Anesthesiology and personal interests in helping mothers live their best lives have recently merged as I created a course to educate women about pain control options during labor and delivery with an in-depth look at epidural anesthesia and anesthesia for C-Sections. Throughout my 14 year career in medicine, I have placed thousands of epidurals and have been dumbfounded how little GOOD education and information is available about this topic. I have become increasingly frustrated with the fact that women are very educated about the labor and delivery process, but are little educated about epidurals. Thus, I set out to create a course filling this void. I spent additional time training in Women's heart health at the Barbara Streisand Women's Heart Center at Cedars Sinai and in Cardio-oncology at the University of Pennsylvania.    I became a cardiologist because there are many ways to make an impact in patients' life: from prevention to early disease treatment with medications, to advanced surgical and non-invasive procedures and even transplant.  With the constraints on time as a practicing physician and my own personal health journey, I realized there isn't enough time for physicians to meaningfully educate patients on preventive strategies for heart disease.
