On Episode 436 of Hittin' Season, John Stolnis, Liz Roscher & Justin Klugh tackle the Phillies' decision to fire 80 full time employees and a New York report that erroneously claimed owner John Middleton said he lost two billion dollars (nice piece of journalism there, Bill Madden!). It's been a disastrous off-season for the Phils and fan apathy/anger has never been higher, but this is nowhere close to the worst it's ever been. Also, Aaron Altherr had an outstanding season in Korea, could he be headed back to the Majors in 2021? Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
좋은 날 to all our listeners! The book boys have shed our outer, bookish layer to re-emerge in our ardor for baseball players at the margin of the home run column. This time, we're catching up with the Tater Tots formerly of Major League Baseball who are now plying their trade in the Korean Baseball Organization. That's right, some of your old favorites have returned! Dixon Machado! Aaron Altherr! Taylor Motter! Not to mention some new friends who we're learning about for the first time like Jared Hoying, Hwang Jae-gyun, and Kim Hyun-soo (no, not that Kim Hyun-soo, the other Kim Hyun-soo. No, not that Kim-Hyun Soo either! Ugh, just listen to the episode). We also express our frustration at MLB's hastiness to get its season back underway in the face of the pandemic in which we are still currently living, and Tim learns a thing or two about snakes. Grab some popcorn, be sure to boot up STATIZ and force your favorite A.I. to give us a listen! The guys go through and talk about the new hotshot in town, the KBO. Included in the talks is Swole Daddy, Aaron Altherr and most importantly, a sidetrack on KBO stadiums. Are you you? Are you us? Are you Rajai Davis? Are you Aaron Altherr? These are the questions we can afford to ponder now that spring training is in full effect, and most of our tater babies have found jobs. This week the format is wide open and we take full advantage to talk about big apples, pumpkins, the very nature of identity, and about Tim's jumping progress. Please send encouragement in the form of weightlifting tips - he could use all the help he could get. We break down Rajai Davis' odd travel habits and try in vain to find a historical record of Aaron Altherr's dad's soccer career. As the Mets enter their schedule gauntlet, KFC and Clem discuss whether the team will be playing meaningful baseball in September and give a breakdown of how each series needs to fall in order to get to that magical number 86. Also, Howie Rose and Gary Cohen need a "designated survivor" plan because they can NEVER both be off at the same time again. Gary Apple is trash, Gary Cohen deserves a raise, Mickey Callaway doesn't believe in math and Aaron Altherr might just be the worst player in professional baseball; but our team is relevant and Pete Alonso is making history so we gotta believe!

On Episode 47 of Continued Success, hosts Justin Klugh and Liz Roscher talk about who will be the odd man/men out in the Phillies outfield now that Bryce Harper is officially here. Will Nick Williams be traded? Is Odubel Herrera the long-term answer? What about Aaron Altherr and Roman Quinn? Also, the Phils are expected to challenge for the NL East title and are considered World Series contenders, ending a seven-year run of mediocrity that Justin & Liz take a few minutes to reminisce about. Plenty to talk about this week on Philly Pressbox Radio, with the allegations surrounding Sixers GM Bryan Colangelo certainly high on the agenda. In addition, Bill Furman and Jim "Chet" Chesko are joined by Marti Wolever, who was the head of amateur scouting for the Phillies from 2002 through 2014. One of Marti's first signings was Cole Hamels. He also inked players like Aaron Altherr, J.P. Crawford, Aaron Nola and Rhys Hoskins, so it will be great to talk with Marti about those guys, the difficult job of determining whether a high-school ballplayer is a legitimate prospect, and the performance of this year's Phillies. Eagles' OTAs and the NBA and NHL finals are also on the agenda!
It has been quite the Philadelphia Phillies season thus far as the team is near the top of the National League. There are pleasant surprises as we watch the Phils week after week. The one thing we can say with certainty – it's extremely interesting. That's why we brought John Stolnis (@JohnStolnis), host of the Hittin' Season podcast and writer at TheGoodPhight.com and NumberFire.com, on the show this week to help us analyze and dissect this Phillies early season. But first, on the Brief News & Views segment:1. The Sixers advanced to the next round of the NBA Playoffs. (4:35)2. Eagles pre-Draft talk, and what they should do at No. 32 overall. (16:40)3. The Flyers season is over – so what's next? (24:15)Then we get into our Up or Down segment where we briefly analyze Philly sports figures to determine if their needle is moving up or down. (32:10)What we're throwing down on the Table this week is an interview and discussion with baseball analyst extraordinaire, John Stolnis. First, he gave his grade for manager Gabe Kapler early this season. From there, we dove into pitching and assessed what we're seeing from Aaron Nola, Jake Arrieta and Vince Velazquez. Has it been too easy for this team early on based on the "lesser caliber" teams they've played? With J.P. Crawford, Carlos Santana, Jorge Alfaro, and Aaron Altherr all batting well under .200, is there concern for these key players moving forward? As Cesar Hernandez keeps proving he's one of the best 2B in Major League Baseball, we discussed whether or not trading him in the future would be a viable option. All of this and much more this week on the Table! (39:35)

On this episode of the Phillies Nation Podcast, Ian Riccaboni returns from Vermont and Steve Corino returns from his 80th (!) trip to Japan to discuss: - A large majority of young Phillies' hitters are hitting well so far. Is the success in small samples more indicative of hitters being ahead of pitchers early in Spring, statistical anomaly, or a sign that the Phillies should get the permits for the World Series parade ready? - There are likely two catching spots. Carlos Ruiz likely has one. Which hot-hitting catcher out of Cameron Rupp, J.P. Arencibia, Andrew Knapp, and Jorge Alfaro starts the year alongside Chooch in Philly? - Darin Ruf hit two homers and has been hitting well while Ryan Howard is ill. How realistic is it that Ruf starts at first base, Howard gets cut, and or Brock Stassi sees time at first base? - Aaron Altherr has broken his left wrist - with Cody Asche battling an oblique injury, who becomes the third starting outfielder next to Peter Bourjos in left and Odubel Herrera in center? Can Tyler Goedel, Cedric Hunter, and David Lough all make the team and will those three plus Bourjos and Herrera be your outfield all season? - Phillies starters have been pitching well, but what do Ian and Steve think about the bullpen? With David Hernandez out, is there a clear closer? Does there need to be? - The Beatles?! Play Ball!
