Mike Elias has made 17 trades of note in his time as Baltimore Orioles General Manager. Host Connor Newcomb decided to rank those 17 deals from worst to best. Connor discusses why the Miguel Castro trade was a disaster and why the trades involving Freddy Galvis and Jonathan Villar didn't do much either way. Then, Connor talks about how he feels now about the Jorge López and Trey Mancini trades and how high Kyle Bradish's recent success put the Dylan Bundy trade on this list.Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors!Built BarBuilt Bar is a protein bar that tastes like a candy bar. The Philadelphia Phillies lose game 1 of a crucial playoff style series to the Atlanta Braves by a score of 2-1. The offense was quiet all night long except for the 9th when Rosario made an error to give the Phils a fighting chance. Joe Girardi stayed with Didi Gregorius for a lefty lefty matchup isntead of using Alec Bohm. He also stayed with Freddy Galvis after that who's in a slump. I'm okay with his decision. Zack Wheeler and Charlie Morton both cruised through 7. Check out my sponsors! Orbit Energy & Power: www.orbitenergy.us or Call (800) 836-3987. DraftKings Code: BRODES Use promo code BRODES! What are we doing here, Phillies? We got Cole Hamels going to the Dodgers and now he's done. Unfortunately. Phillies injury updates with Eflin hopefully making his return along with Freddy Galvis and Sam Coonrod. Hopefully we see Rhys Hoskins coming back soon. The Braves are hot. CORN! Field of Dreams game recap with the White Sox and Yankees. The umpires suck in the last couple series for the Phillies. The Phils lose 4 of 6 in the Dodgers and Reds series. On to the next one with the Arizona Diamondbacks which should be a winnable, sweepable series. Then we finish up with some dad jokes. Enjoy...and PLAY BALL!
Bob Wankel and Mark Henry are on today's episode. (00:00-42:06) In the on deck circle the ass clown Mark Henry is here to talk about two more baseball losers last night, Kendrick Perkins report about Ben Simmons potentially holding out, and overreacting about the Summer Sixers. The trade deadline gutted the Cubs and Nationals, sent hometown heroes across the country to make immediate impacts, and gave us the “Let's Go, New Guy!” chant. Not to mention the upheaval in qHAR (quality Hair Above Replacement) with Joey Gallo to the Yankees and Freddy Galvis to the Phillies. Patti and the Pottymouth give you the rundown on the most nerve-wracking and frenetic trade season we can remember. Please keep Daniel Brito, infielder for the Lehigh Valley IronPigs (Phils AAA) in your thoughts after his on-field collapse and subsequent surgeries over the weekend in Rochester. The Health Watch includes Fernando Tatis Jr.'s shoulder, the Disney Prince's likely Tommy John, and CLE manager Terry Francona out for the season with a long list of maladies. In dinger land, Joey Votto makes the old guys proud with his seven consecutive games with homers, while new guy Rodolfo Castro makes history notching homers for every one of his first five major league hits and new guy Seby Zavala's first three hits, all homers, happened in the same game.Mets owner Stephen Cohen leads off the Police Blotter with his bragging about paying newly-drafted players way below their worth. Will Kumar Rocker get the last laugh under the new NIL rules or is his bright future in jeopardy because the Mets backed away from their first round draft pick? Although Marcel Ozuna's charges have been reduced from a felony to misdemeanor assault, MLB continues to investigate under the league's domestic abuse policy. That same policy resulted in a 30 game suspension for Starlin Castro although details have not been made public. The COVID report brings us the happy story of the Toronto Blue Jays finally returning home to the Rogers Centre, and the crap news of Trea Turner, Christian Yelich, Don Mattingly, and a host of others with positive COVID tests. In Olympic baseball coverage, Pottymouth brings us the vocabulary word “repechage” which has a very flowery and kind definition but Patti just thinks means “loser's bracket.” We also say the words “hobbit,” “bar mitzvah,” and “bacon.”Get vaxxed, fight the man, and find us on Twitter @ncibpodcast, on Facebook @nocryinginbball, Instagram @nocryinginbball and on the Interweb at nocryinginbball.com. We are joined by special guest Larry Bowa today to breakdown the past week of Phillies baseball. The Phillies remain just a few games behind 1st place in the NL East - will the recent trades finally be the catalyst to propel them to first place? And will the Phillies make any other moves, such as Cole Hamels, to bolster their rotation? Freddy Galvis returns and is a major defensive improvement over Didi this year, but who will be the starting shortstop - Didi or Galvis? Lastly, the Yankees were aggressive at the trade deadline, and once again have assembled a powerhouse offense, but will it be enough for them to make the playoffs?
WE'RE BAAAAAACK! We return from our hiatus of work and taking care of a newborn. 3 1/2 games behind the Mets. Trade Deadline. Phils get a starting pitcher and closer along with the return of Freddy Galvis! Our 1-Year Anniversary passed by of July 22nd. What a ride. Phillies MLB Draft review. Possible Cole Hamels Reunion. And we discuss our predictions for the remainder of the season with the Phillies having the 2nd easiest schedule of the second half. Thank you all for sticking with us through our break. The wait is over. Enjoy, and PLAY BALL!
The Philadelphia Phillies were able to salvage one game Sunday afternoon against the Pittsburgh Pirates following trades made at the MLB Trade Deadline. New Head Coach Nick Siriani and new quarterback Jalen Hurts lead the Philadelphia Eagles as Training Camp began this past week. The Philadelphia Sixers drafted Jaden Springer in the First Round of this week's NBA Draft. Newly acquired starting pitcher Kyle Gibson made his first start for the Philadelphia Phillies today and helped the Phillies avoid being swept by the last-place Pirates. Gibson was in control all game keeping the Pirates offense off-balanced in his first start with his new team. Join Thomas Arnone, Nick DelGozzo, and Greg MIlakovic as they look at the Phillies' chances for the National League East title chances following the trade deadline. They will discuss if the Phillies did enough at the Trade Deadline to win the NL East. Join the fellas and let them know if you Agree or Disagree with that statement. The Phillies have officially given up on Spencer Howard as he was a part of the deal that netted them, Gibson and Ian Kennedy. The Phillies also brought back Freddy Galvis to play some sort of roll off the bench. With the moves the Mets and Braves made did the Phillies do enough? The guys will also look at the Eagles and their training camp starts. The rumors coming out of training camp and what to look forward to for the season. The Sixers completed their NBA Draft this past week and still hold onto Ben Simmons. When will Ben Simmons get traded? Will Ben Simmons get traded? Finally, the guys will close the show with their Crumbs of the Week. Join the discussion live!!!
This week on The Bat Around, Matt Pyne returns to fill in for Paul, and the guys discuss what was the greatest trade deadline in MLB history. At 10:20, they're joined by Stan "the fan" Charles to discuss the different trades made around the league including the blockbuster than sent Max Scherzer to the Dodgers. Then, at 10:50, Cody Stavenhagen, Tigers beat writer for the Athletic, calls in to talk about the Tigers and where they stand in their rebuild. After that, the guys discuss the trades that sent Shawn Armstrong and Freddy Galvis elsewhere. At 11:35, Eric Arditti joins the show to discuss the Orioles better second half, Trey Mancini, and more. Two players stood out in take to rake this week, but one was a champion. That and more on The Bat Around!
