Returning home to Daikin set to tee off their 9-game homestand, the Astros somehow stay afloat, still leading the division roughly 2 games ahead of the Mariners. Losing their series opener to the Colorado Rockies yesterday with a final of 6-1, many began to question if this Astros club can sustain their position atop of the AL West Division and through the postseason. Addressing a few things, Dana shares a few resolutions regarding the Astros' recent struggles and what to expect as we course through the last 30 games of the season.   

Losing the first series to the Orioles 1-2, followed by a sweep by the Tigers, the Astros look to have shaken back a bit following their 4-game series this weekend, taking 3 out of the 4 games in Baltimore. Still atop the AL West Division and looking to brush off their recent 2-series losses, Steve shares some positives from the weekend with a few things to be mindful of as we begin to expect a few key players to return to the lineup.  

Following a rough series in Detroit with the Tigers sweeping the Astros and losing their series to the Orioles right before, the Astros head on to Baltimore for another 3-game series against the Orioles. Taking Game 1, the Astros snap their 4-game losing slump with a final score of 7-2, putting them exactly 2 games ahead of the Mariners. Still out in front, leading the AL West Division, Sean and Dan take a moment to evaluate the Astros' latest flaws with yesterday's victory and how the Astros can keep from entering a slump this late in the season. 

Closing out their series against the Tigers, the Astros leave Detroit with another series loss, making it their second series loss in a row, following yesterday's day game with the final score of 7-2. Somehow, the Astros continue to hold first place, leading the AL West Division with the Mariners still on their heels, roughly 2 games behind them. Rolling up to Baltimore after recently seeing the Orioles at home, Sean, Dan, & Chris analyze the Astros' recent two series losses and what adjustments must be made if they intend to sustain their lead in the division and secure a postseason spot.  

Splitting their last 10 games 5-5, taking the series win over the Red Sox but falling drastically to the Orioles, the Astros seem to have hit a rough patch as we begin to enter the back stretch of the season. Still atop the AL West Division on account of the Phillies strafing off the Mariners another game, the Stros suffer another horrific shutout to Detroit with a final score of 10-0. With injuries beginning to take a toll and offensive production becoming an issue again, Sean and Dan share the direction they believe the Astros may be headed in if they cannot turn things around before the postseason arrives.

With the Mets taking 2 of the 3 games from the Mariners, the Astros continue to lead the AL West Division, roughly 2 games ahead of Seattle now. Suffering a 14-1 loss the night before, the Astros still lead the AL West Division following the Orioles' victory over Seattle yesterday, putting the Astros 1 game ahead of the Mariners. Regarding Josh Hader's injury situation and not too sure on a timeline for returning, Sean and Dan take a moment to evaluate yesterday's victory, and pose the question, can the Astros continue to replenish players following their injury influx in the organization? 

With the division race beginning to heat up, the Astros' lead has merely diminished as the Mariners come roaring back into the relay, now tying the Astros for first place in the AL West Division. Following last night's 14-1 loss to the Red Sox and now tying the series 1-1, Dana Brown joins and shares a few pointers from the Yankees series, a general overview of the Red Sox's series, and updates on a couple of players still on the IL. As injuries continuously become an ongoing issue for the Astros, Dana also shares a bit of news on a new name recently placed on the IL for a 15-day stint: Josh Hader.

Concluding the first half of the season yesterday afternoon, the Astros seem to be in a pretty good spot rolling into the All-Star break and the second half of the season leading the AL West Division and approximately 3 games behind the Tigers leading the American League. Rolling into the All-Star break a bit uneasy losing 5 of their last 6 games coming off their hot sweep in LA, the Stros' still hold a very solid place ahead of their division rivals. Still sitting atop of the AL West Division and steady climbing the AL ranks now 4th behind the Blue Jays, Dana Brown debunks the Astros' recent series' and shares a few things that must be tweaked if the club intends to make another postseason run along with an update regarding Alvarez's current status. 

Cruising by the Pirates last week in Pittsburgh then moving on to Cleveland, the Astros again go on to take 2 of the 3 games from the Guardians winning the series 2-1, still leading the AL West Division at a standing of 36-29. Still without Yordan in the lineup and following the absence of a few players, the Astros continue to still taper off wins furthering their position 3rd in the AL behind New York and Detroit. Taking 7 out of the 10 games in their homestand, the Astros look to have the ball rolling as they go on to split their revenge series against the Tampa Bay Rays 2-2. Teeing off against the Pirates tomorrow, the Astros lead the AL West Division now in first place surpassing the Seattle Mariners with a standing record of 32-27. Pumped up and excited to cross another threshold in the five and a half plus years of this endeavor as I have another jam packed, chock full of sports talk that'll have your cup runneth over. On deck: (3:08) Some housekeeping to start as I want to say THANK YOU to all who've listened, followed, subscribed and downloaded the podcast over the years as this episode reaches another milestone (#400) as I continue to do what I love for you guys and gals. (5:15) There wasn't a lot of drama over the final weekend of the baseball season, but you had some teams thrive (i.e. Marlins) and a few teams dive (i.e. Rangers, Diamondbacks) as they head into the postseason. Another team that thrived was the Houston Astros as they won another AL West Division title, thanks to the ineptitude of the Rangers as they'll sit and wait for the Division Series, which will begin on Saturday. I'll preview a rather unsexy Wild Card playoff picture where you'll see Rangers-Rays, Blue Jays-Twins, Diamondbacks-Brewers and Marlins-Phillies. I'll also get into the Mets and manager Buck Showalter parting ways. I'll throw my hat in the ring as to who is the perfect candidate for their next skipper (although he will not get a sniff), my awful over/under numbers for the season and terrible news surrounding the untimely death of former Pirates and Red Sox pitcher Tim Wakefield, who passed away at the age of 57. (32:30) The San Francisco 49ers are off to a 4-0 start, but are they the league's best team? I'll explain why they aren't after four games. I'll share my winners (i.e. Buffalo, Denver) and losers (i.e. New Orleans, Cincinnati) in what was not a good Week 4 in the NFL. I also have to express my discontent of how the impact of Taylor Swift has made The Shield (aka NFL) even more popular, if that's possible. (53:42) I have nothing against Deion Sanders or the Colorado Buffaloes, but no more talk about them after their poor performance in a loss vs. USC at home this past Saturday. Notre Dame answered the bell down the stretch, something they couldn't do the week before against Ohio State. Ole Miss wins a wild game against conference opponent LSU. And Florida was a no show at Kentucky as Week 5 in college football concludes with a small bang. (57:16) The Europe squad thwarted a late charge by the Americans in Rome over the weekend as they were victorious in the Ryder Cup. The other story that caused a buzz was Rory McIlroy confronting a caddie after the US team celebrated at the 18th hole on Saturday as they were making a comeback. Was it much ado about nothing? (59:03) Another big trade took place in the Association as the Celtics acquired former Bucks guard Jrue Holiday for Robert Williams, Malcolm Brogdon and two #1 picks. Was it too much to give up? Does the shift of power go back to Boston after Milwaukee traded for Damian Lillard last week? (1:01:31) Hockey fans, the NHL is on the way this week as the season will begin on Saturday. One big player that won't suit up is Lightning goaltender Andrei Vasilevskiy. He'll be out for two months after back surgery. How huge of a hit is that for the former back to back Cup champs? 7-year Major League Baseball outfielder and Northwestern and New Trier product Michael Huff visits the show to reflect on his big league career and break down the latest news from around the league. Michael discusses his time with the Los Angeles Dodgers, Cleveland Indians, Chicago White Sox and Toronto Blue Jays, telling stories from his playing days and reliving some of his favorite experiences from 90s MLB - such as his first big league at bat (vs. Tom Glavine), playing on the 1993 AL West Division champion White Sox and leading the White Sox's team chapels, being in a Bible study with Blue Jays' teammates Paul Molitor, Joe Carter and John Olerude in Toronto, getting picked up by the Cleveland Indians (and receiving a call from assistant general manager Dan O'Dowd), training Michael Jordan and much more! They also discuss how the pitch clock is making a difference in minor league baseball and how it could improve (or worsen) the game at the Major League Baseball level next year.
