Joe and Laurie study how the cultural legends and folklore about dragons may have come from our ancient ancestors seeing alien spacecraft and weaponry, and telling the stories of misunderstood technology as being frightful and powerful beasts. https://bavipower.com/blogs/bavipower-viking-blog/dragons-in-norse-myth/ https://uselessetymology.com/2017/11/20/etymology-of-dragon/ https://www-biblestudytools-com.cdn.ampproject.org/v/s/ www.biblestudytools.com/topical-verses/dragons-in-the-bible/ https://www.cambridge.org/core/journals/ajs-review/article/abs/left-contained-in-the-right-a-study-in-zoharic-hermeneutics https://dragondreaming.wordpress.com/the-dragon-as-an-archetype/ https://www.worldhistoryedu.com/emperor-qin-shi-huang-the-first-emperor-of-a-unified-china/ Sacred Narrative: Readings in the Theory of Myth, A. Robert Fuller, Ph.D. is a physicist and former president of Oberlin College. He has consulted with Indira Gandhi, met with Jimmy Carter regarding the President's Commission on World Hunger, and worked to defuse the Cold War in Russia when it was known as the USSR. As Fuller reflected on his career he realized that he had been, at different times in his life, a somebody and a nobody. His periodic sojourns into “Nobodyland” led him to identify rankism - the abuse of the power inherent in rank - and ultimately to write the book Somebodies and Nobodies: Overcoming the Abuse of Rank. He has become a recognized leader of the dignity movement to overcome rankism and keynoted a Dignity for All conference hosted by the President of Bangladesh. His many other accomplishments include co-authoring the text book Mathematics of Classical and Quantum Physics. His books include: Somebodies and Nobodies: Overcoming the Abuse of Rank (New Society Publishers 2003), Dignity for All: How to Create a World without Rankism (co-author Pamela A. [Warning] This episode contains explicit language and explicit themes. Listener discretion is advised. Wow! Episode 40. And with that comes a new destination in learning. Danny explores a facet he normally never does when he engages in reviewing a book on the 1916 Eastern Front offensive pushed forth by Russian General, Brusilov. Arguably, Danny argues the book does nothing wrong but he still drills the author and subject matter hard because of critical missteps in presentation and pacing issues. Full of information; full of critique. This is a great installment for the Centennial series! The movement of functionality and services to the cloud has been underway for over a decade. It began with sales management and has extended to every area of the corporate world. This has created an opportunity for better services to become available to more companies. At the same time, the challenges that are raised need to be addressed. These include issues of data protection in all domains and understanding that security must extend beyond the internal data center. Development of new services and functions create change which must be managed. As we are deep into the second chapter of the cloud, how do we adapt properly? If PII and other secure data is outside the organization, how do IT and treasury ensure this asset is protected at all times and in all locations? If the promise of the cloud is the democratization of technology, what is the danger of shadow-IT (nearly everyone adding applications or services to the company platform without any vetting)? What needs to be done? Craig Jeffery, the Managing Partner of Strategic Treasurer discusses these topics with Craig Callé, founder of the security firm SourceCallé and a former CFO of Amazon Digital Services and other companies.

In the preface of There was no Jesus, There is no God (Amazon Digital Services, 2013),Raphael Lataster states that “it is not my job to disprove Christianity or any other religion. It is not my intention to destroy the fait of the faithful; nor do I desire to offend or upset believers in any way.” His new book is, in fact, meant to be an objective analysis of the evidence available for the existence of Jesus and of God. He details, for example, the evidence present for the two different “Jesuses” people believe in, categorized as the “Biblical Jesus” (the son of God who performed miracles and died for our sins) and the “Historical Jesus” (a non-divine but cool guy who preached and helped others). He relates how many people who fail to find evidence for a divine Jesus tend to fall back on the position that at least a historical Jesus existed, but Lataster thoroughly examines the evidence and finds it lacking for either version. By using Bayesian methodology and the mindset that history is a study of probabilities, Lataster points out the problems in the arguments of apologists and Biblical scholars. In the second portion of this book, the author focuses on God and monotheism, sorting through the arguments used to support God’s existence. He concludes that even if one gives each argument considerable leeway, they all still ultimately fail to providence evidence for any god – least of all the monotheistic Christian god. Though Lataster is a skeptic, his book is one focused on evidence, not on the pros or cons of religious faith. As he states in his preface, “the truth is not a democracy, and certainly does not care about our feelings.” Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
