Throughout history, people have uncovered fossils and tried to explain them using the knowledge and stories of their time. In this episode of The Past Macabre, host Stephanie Rice explores how ancient discoveries of prehistoric bones may have inspired some of humanity's most enduring myths about dragons and other legendary creatures. From China's loong, whose image appeared in tombs thousands of years before the first dynasties, to the Greek and Roman tales of sea monsters and winged serpents, this episode traces how archaeology and paleontology overlap in uncovering the roots of these mythical beings and the human fascination with what fossils.Offline Works Cited:Boaz, Noel T., and Russell L. The weather is finally shifting! After weeks of staying in the 80's and even getting close to 90°, it's going to be much milder this week with highs in the 60's. I can actually turn my central AC off now! We recapped our weekends and Brian had a rant about garlic. In sports, the Brewers grabbed a 1-0 series lead on the Cubs this weekend, a look at yesterday's NFL action, talked about tonight's MNF game, the results from NASCAR & the WNBA Finals, and the Badger loss on Saturday. We talked about what's on TV today/tonight and discussed what we watched over the weekend. Congrats to this guy's dog that just got into the Purina Animal Hall of Fame(who knew that was even a thing?) after it fought off a bear and helped save the man's life! Crazy story this weekend about Mark Sanchez getting into a drunken fight and getting stabbed! Have you seen the Taco Bell 50k that happened this weekend in Denver? Seems like a true test of your physical abilities. And we also talked about which mythical creature we'd like to see undeniable proof of. Had a couple of sideline reporters go down hard this weekend. And in today's edition of "Bad News with Happy Music", we had stories about stolen salsa, a new TikTok trend involving forks & pudding, a chance to win 19 years worth of free beer, a guy in Canada who was so stoned he called the cops on himself, a substitute teacher in Vermont who was at school with cocaine in her possession, a guy in Colorado who got a massive parking fee at an airport garage, and a #FloridaWoman who threw a bunch of tampons in the yard of her ex-bf.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

What Are “Anglo-Saxon Tales”?“Anglo-Saxon” refers to the people who settled in what is now England from roughly the 5th to the 11th centuries (the Angles, the Saxons, the Jutes, etc.)Their tales are the stories, poems, myths, legends, riddles, and heroic narratives produced by or for those people mostly in Old English.Oral tradition was very important. Storytellers (often called scops) would recite or sing tales to an audience, sometimes accompanied by music (like lyres).Only a minority of people could read and write. When tales were written, it was usually by monks in monasteries. That means many stories survive today only because someone decided to write them down much later.
We sat down to talk about mythical creatures and whether or not we actually believe in them. Bigfoot, mermaids, Nessy… some are convincing, others not so much.
Livestock found drained of blood. Puncture wounds with no clear cause. In this chapter, we investigate the 'Chupacabra', one of the most infamous cryptids in modern folklore. However, beneath the sensational headlines and pop culture portrayals lies an origin story rooted in real fear. From rural Puerto Rican farms to dusty Texas backroads, we trace the legend's spread, dissect the eyewitness accounts, and explore how one woman's sci-fi obsession may have helped shape the creature's image. Is the Chupacabra a blood-sucking predator, a misidentified animal, or something else entirely? Send us a message!Something's lurking in the hollows of the Ozark Mountains… and it's not your average black bear. This week, we peer into the dark with two of the South's most chilling cryptids: the Ozark Howler and the Plat Eye. One's said to stalk the hills with fiery eyes and a blood-curdling howl — the other glides through Carolina swamps, a spectral eye gleaming with vengeance. Are these warnings wrapped in fur and shadow? Spirits of grief and guilt? Or tales born from moonshine and fear?Grab your lanterns, charge your voice recorders, and crack open those dusty folklore books. The woods are whispering… and this one howls and haunts. Exploring the connection between dragons and dinosaurs opens up a dialogue that bridges mythology, religion, and science. This discussion is not merely academic; it touches upon fundamental beliefs about our origins and existence. By examining scriptural texts, such as those in the Book of Mormon, which reference dragons, and comparing them with fossil records and historical accounts, we begin to see a pattern that suggests these creatures were more than myth. The idea that dragons could breathe fire or possess venomous capabilities akin to certain modern animals adds a layer of plausibility to their existence. Moreover, the discovery of soft tissue in dinosaur fossils and carbon dating results that contradict the established timeline further fuel this debate. These findings invite us to question the rigid frameworks of evolutionary theory and consider alternative explanations that include divine intervention and intelligent design. In doing so, we embrace a worldview that acknowledges the complexity and mystery of creation, celebrating the possibility that dragons and dinosaurs once roamed the earth together.⏱️⏱️VIDEO CHAPTERS⏱️⏱️:00:00:00 - Did God Create Dinosaurs and Dragons? Let's trace the eerie wail of one of Ireland's most enduring legends, the 'Banshee'.Often dismissed as myth or metaphor, the Banshee is more than just a ghostly woman who cries in the night. Today we turn to one of Japan's most enduring and disturbing legends, 'Kuchisake-onna', also known as 'the Slit-Mouthed Woman'.This tale of a disfigured woman who asks a chilling question has stalked schoolyards, late-night streets, and the public imagination for decades. But beneath the horror lies a deeper story - one shaped by post-war trauma, shifting societal fears, and the evolution of urban myth in a media-saturated age.We trace the legend's rise from whispered folklore to national panic, exploring how stories like Kuchisake-onna take root, why they thrive, and what they reveal about the fears we try to suppress.Text Me (this is 3rd party & I cannot respond, but I see all messages)Support the showIf you have more information or a correction on something mentioned in this chapter, email us at luke@lukemordue.com. Submission guidelines can be found at http://www.TallTaleTV.com ---- About Tall Tale TV ---- Hi there! My name is Chris Herron and I'm an audiobook narrator. In 2015, I suffered from poor Type 1 diabetes control which lead me to become legally blind for almost a year. The doctors didn't give me much hope, predicting an 80% chance that I would never see again. But I refused to give up and changed my lifestyle drastically. Through sheer willpower (and an amazing eye surgeon) I beat the odds and regained my vision. During that difficult time, I couldn't read or write, which was devastating as they had always been a source of comfort for me since childhood. However, my wife took me to the local library where she read out the titles of audiobooks to me. I selected some of my favorite books, such as the Disc World series, Name of the Wind, Harry Potter, and more, and the audiobooks brought these stories to life in a way I had never experienced before. They helped me through the darkest period of my life and I fell in love with audiobooks. Once I regained my vision, I decided to pursue a career as an audiobook narrator instead of a writer. That's why I created Tall Tale TV, to support aspiring authors in the writing communities that I had grown to love before my ordeal. My goal was to help them promote their work by providing a promotional audio short story that showcases their writing skills to readers. They say the strongest form of advertising is word of mouth, so I offer a platform for readers to share these videos and help spread the word about these talented writers. Please consider sharing these stories with your friends and family to support these amazing authors. Debbie Solaris is an ET contactee, interdimensional traveler, and galactic historian. After a fateful extraterrestrial contact experience a few years ago, Debbie awakened to her true star lineage and higher calling. Through her ancestral connection with the Akashic Records, she has been receiving downloads of galactic historical information and universal spiritual knowledge ever since. All of her disbelief changed, however, when in 2012, Debbie had a couple of very intense out-of-body experiences where she found herself in the interior of a huge Arcturian mothership and saw herself interacting and communicating with Arcturian and Pleiadian extraterrestrials, the very ones she previously didn't believe existed. After her visits with the Arcturians onboard their ship, Debbie found that her extrasensory perception had increased exponentially and that she was getting frequent “downloads” of information, mostly on “stuff that I never knew about or would have any exposure to from my schooling during my childhood and college years. She was starting to have visions and old memories resurface about ancient galactic events, stuff that was way older than anything in Earth's history.___________________PODCAST CHAPTERS00:00 - Debbie Solaris Intro03:13 - Encountering Souls from the Future08:15 - The Yael and Asasani: Future Human Hybrids13:26 - Debbie's Galactic Historian Role & Creation Story15:30 - The Universe's Story Begins in Andromeda18:21 - Creation of the Milky Way & Lyra System20:05 - Earth's Return to the Original Human Template25:07 - The Draconians' Origin Story27:48 - Dragons and Mythical Creatures on Earth30:09 - The Role of Elementals in the Universe36:05 - Earth's Ascension & Return to Its Original Template38:09 - Debbie's Awakening and ET Contact 44:22 - Learning About Earth's Illusionary Reality48:22 - Making Contact with Galactic Family51:35 - Service to Humanity as a Path to Connection54:12 - Setting Intentions in the Akashic Records01:04:55 - Lessons from Atlantis and Lemuria 01:09:09 - Advanced Technology of Ancient Civilizations01:14:06 - The Role of Light and Dark in Ascension01:18:32 - Personal Reading: Emilio's Akashic Records01:22:48 - Emilio's Star System Connections01:25:29 - Elemental Beginnings in Lyra01:30:11 - Connection to Shamanism and Community01:34:22 - Emilio's Connection to Lions and Lyra01:35:48 - Navigating New Earth Experiences01:37:48 - Star Genetics and Their Impact on Earthly Life01:40:54 - Integrating Star Knowledge into Modern Life01:42:49 - Galactic Akashic Training01:45:21 - The Final Trio01:48:01 - The Time Capsule Question___________________Guest: Debbie Solaris, Akashic Records ReaderWebsite | https://www.debbiesolaris.com/Training & Webinars | https://www.debbiesolaris.com/trainingsEvents | https://www.debbiesolaris.com/eventsInstagram | https://www.instagram.com/debbiesolaris/YouTube | @debbiesolarisgalactichistorian Host: Emilio OrtizInstagram | https://www.instagram.com/iamemilioortiz/Subscribe to YouTube Channel | @EmilioOrtiz Watch Emilio's latest series on 4biddenknowledge TV l https://bit.ly/AwakenThe6thSense___________________Special Offerings to Support the Show:✦ Make a One-Time or Recurring Donation on PayPal

Send us a textWhat's the deal with chimeras in the Bible? Are they just myths, demon descriptions, or something way stranger? In this episode, we'll dig into the ancient texts, including the Septuagint, to track down satyrs, sirens, dragons, and yes, even the infamous Leviathan. Could these creatures be the result of pre-flood genetic experiments? Were they spawned from divine-human mingling gone wrong? Or are they clever political metaphors from the prophets? We'll throw out theories, explore ancient Jewish thoughts, and see if these “chimeras” were real beasts or symbolic warnings.

Elliot poem, The Waste Land. The poem was inspired by the real-life experience of Ernest Shackleton — an Irish explorer who went on a near-death expedition in Antarctica in 1916. After their ship got trapped in ice, he and two other members of his crew made a 36-hour long trek across the Arctic, over mountains and glaciers, to a whaling station. During that time, several members of his three-man team — Ernest included — kept feeling like there was a fourth man alongside them. T.S. Elliot wrote this stanza inspired by that phenomenon: What is the cause of the third man syndrome? No one really knows what causes third man syndrome. Many people claim it is a hallucination or coping mechanism triggered by extreme stress while others believe it is help given by a guardian angel. What is an example of the third man phenomenon? Examples in the book The Third Man Factor by John Geiger include a solo sailor who believed an unseen companion steered his ship through a storm, a woman in a collapsed building who reported a monk gave her an apple, a solo mountaineer who believed he was roped to someone else and thus descended a peak cautiously. What is the third man syndrome in Christianity? There is a phenomenon that many people who found themselves in survival situations have experienced. The phenomenon? It's something referred to as the "third man factor", where a person finds that even though they are physically alone, they feel a presence by their side. A new study reveals that these sorts of hallucinations -- sometimes called ``third man syndrome'' -- are more mysterious than scientists previously thought, since the visions cannot be fully explained as a side effect of altitude sickness or the brain swelling that frequently accompanies it. What is the third man syndrome in car accidents? ``Third Man Syndrome'' is the phenomenon in which people hear, see, or feel the presence of an additional person who isn't actually there comforting, supporting, or saving their lives during emergency situations. Stories of the internet. When my husband was in his 20s, he fell asleep while driving and crashed into a telephone pole. He was hurt and remembered a teenage kid knocking on his window and telling him he called the police and not to get out of the car because there were live wires everywhere. When my husband was finally rescued, there was no sign of the kid. The police said that no one had called them — they just came because the power was out. Not only that, but they said there was no way anyone could have gotten close to the car on account of the wires, and if my husband had tried to get out of the car, they probably would have probably killed him. My husband so vividly remembers the kid, he believes he was real, but his mom believes it was his guardian angel." —Anonymous "I was dancing with my friend at a foam party, which is where they hang a machine from the ceiling that dumps TONS of bubbles onto the dance floor. The foam was super deep under the machine and the floor was super slippery because of the soapy bubbles. My friend slipped into the foam and I fell down to the floor, under the bubbles with her. When I tried to breathe, it was like I was drowning — the foam filled my lungs like water. I couldn't open my eyes, my feet and hands kept slipping so I couldn't stand up, and no one could hear us choking and screaming over the music. I was slipping all over on the floor holding onto my friend's shirt. Just as I thought we were going to drown in the bubbles, someone pulled us up. It was as though we'd been lifted or pushed, because there was no way anyone could have grabbed me by the arm. I was way too slippery — Heather and I couldn't even hold hands, our skin was so slick. I was lucky just to hang onto her shirt." "We came out of the bubbles, choking and gasping, covered in soap, clinging on to each other. When I wiped my eyes clear, there was no one there except the other people dancing around us. They were all oblivious to us, though — they didn't even know we had fallen and no one had seen anyone pull us out nor did anyone ask us if we were OK! Needless to say, I never went to a foam party again." —Anonymous Discover the world of the supernatural with the 222 Paranormal Podcast, your ultimate source for spine-chilling tales and expert insights into the unknown.
