Death is the high cost of living. The weight of that knowledge can feel crippling but is it there we find the deepest and most important knowledge of how to live? After tragedy struck in 2013, Elizabeth Coplan turned to writing to express her personal grief. She wrote many published essays, and later, after experiencing three losses in less than a year, she turned to writing plays focused on this global experience known as death. In 2016, Elizabeth developed the groundbreaking play, Grief Dialogues, and built the nonprofit Grief Dialogues, a theatrical movement creating new conversations about dying, death, and grief.Elizabeth is the script consultant, director, and producer for Juntos Nos Ayudamos/Better Together, a film about a Hispanic family surviving suicide. She is also the creator and the co-host of the podcast, Out of Grief Comes Art, and the Executive Producer of 8 AM, an award-winning short film on traumatic loss.'Til Death, Elizabeth's full-length play about one mother's choice that unveils a family's long-buried secrets, opens Off-Broadway in November 2023 under the direction of Chad Austin, Producing Director of the Abingdon Theatre. The play stars Two-Time Tony Award Winner Judy Kaye, Tony Award Nominee Robert Cuccioli, with Whitney Morse, Dominick LaRuffa Jr., Michael Lee Brown, TV and film star Amy Hargreaves. In addition to an updated production of Grief Dialogues scheduled to open in New York City 2024, Elizabeth is currently working on The Book Club, a new play highlighting the lives of five senior women. She is collaborating with Ina Chadwick on The a Chronicles, a theatrical series of stories that spark conversations about women's reproductive rights, and on a TV sitcom pilot Act Three, a coming-of-age story about a late-in-life emerging playwright. Cameron Edwin (Jim Gaffigan), the host of a failing children's science TV show called "Above & Beyond", has always had aspirations of being an astronaut. After a satellite falls from orbit and crashes into the suburban home of a dysfunctional family in Ohio, the father seizes the opportunity to fulfill his dream of becoming an astronaut by re-building it into his own rocket ship. While his wife and daughter believe he's experiencing a midlife crisis, his relationship with his wife (Rhea Seehorn) and daughter (Katelyn Nacon) start to strain. A series of surreal events begin unfolding around him -- a doppelgänger moving into the house next door, a car falling from the sky, and an unusual teenage boy forging a friendship with him. As Cameron slowly starts to piece these events together to ultimately reveal that there's more to his life story than he once thought and forcing him to reconsider how interconnected their lives truly are. Director and writer Colin West joins us for a conversation on the inspiration for Linoleum, pulling together a wonderful cast that included, Michael Ina Black, Amy Hargreaves, and Tony Shalhoub, how comedian / actor Jim Gaffigan became the lead in this whimsical and poignant tale about taking chances and living without regret. There are a lot of people on this show who are, like, bad at things. Carrie, Saul, O'Keefe, Keane, Wellington... This week we examine the potential growth (or lack thereof) of our main character and discuss the portrayal of Carrie's mental illness both this season and over the span of the series. We also re-evaluate who's on the payroll at Mole City Hall and discuss the mixed emotions of O'Keefe's capture and Saul's failure. If you haven't read the HYH exclusive interview with Amy Hargreaves, who plays Maggie Mathison, you can read it on the blog here. It's a good one. Actress Amy Hargreaves joins Mallory in the MILK Studio. Currently starring in the popular “13 Reasons Why” series and in Showtime’s “Homeland,” Amy is also appearing in two fall films, “Super Dark Times” and “Wonderstruck.” Amy’s first audition was an open call for Broadway’s “Annie” at age 12, and she has worked in commercials, voiceovers, film, television and theater jobs, ever since. Amy talks with Mallory about navigating motherhood and performing, how expressing sexuality in her acting career helped her get roles as she got OLDER, and the harassment and assault issues that are rocking the entertainment world.
Homeland & 13 Reasons Why actress Amy Hargreaves has opinions about the 'glamorizing suicide' controversy surrounding her mega-hit Netflix show AND what's up with Carrie Mathison and her babe Franny. She shares her thoughts with Kara as they break down both shows and chat about a bounty of things you never knew about Amy -- like why she sometimes ducks into a closet, why you know her voice but aren't sure why, and why she was called into her kids' principal's office. You'll see she's not your typical girl-next-door. The New York native, dual citizen (France & US) and political enthusiast has a wild streak. And after decades acting in oodles of films and TV shows, she's waving her wild flag by dipping her toe into riskier roles. Why? Listen in.
